Xander and Cordelia followed the road and entered a town. Which seemed very familiar.
"Is it my imagination or does this look like the set of a western?" Xander asked, looking around. "If it wasn't for the two moons, I'd think we'd landed in the old west."
"I'd have to agree with you." Cordelia said, also looking around. "Xander, our money may not work here."
"Which means we'll either have to get jobs or jump out. Unless we find someone we can try to help before it comes to the getting a job part."
They continued walking into the town and as the sun was rising, they saw something they hadn't expected to see. A spaceship landing outside the town.
"Cordy, I recognize that ship!" Xander exclaimed. "I'm in scifi geek mode, that's a Firefly class ship!"
"Is that supposed to mean something to me?" She asked.
"Remember who Alex said she dressed as for Halloween?"
"Someone named Zoe, from the show Firefly. You're telling we're in a reality that's a tv show in our reality?!"
"Makes me wonder if my theory on psychics who can get glimpses of other realities is true. I also wonder if that's the ship Zoe is on."
"Who is Zoe?"
"Zoe Allyn Washbourn, first officer of the transport ship Serenity. Named for Serenity Valley. She fought in a war of resistance with the Captain of the Serenity, Malcolm Reynolds. Unfortunately, they lost, badly. Both Serenity Valley and the war itself. Now they eek out a living with their transport ship. Part legitimate transport, part smugglers. The culture is a mix of Chinese and American and we are no where near Earth. Humans left Earth over 500 years ago because it had no more resources for them. They're terraforming planets and moons they found in a system with five suns and bunch of proto suns. I wonder what point this is at? The series didn't air long because of problems with the network, but it's very popular anyway."
"Anyone else I should know about or are you just going to drool over this Zoe?"
"She's like you, an unapologetic kickass bitch Queen. In fact the actress who played her on the show, also played Cleopatra on the Xena show or one of them anyway. Other people we might meet include, her husband, Hoban Washbourn, the pilot, think me before you took my wardrobe in hand. Shepard Book, a reformed spy turned minister. Simon and River Tam. Simon's a doctor, sacrificed everything he had to save his sister, River. She was experimented on by the government. She's what they call a Reader, a telepath. They turned her into a living weapon. She could kick Buffy and Faith's ass simultaneously and she doesn't have Slayer strength. At all. Then there's Kaylee, genius engineer and Jayne, brainless muscle. There's also Inara, she's a companion. Think geisha, which does include sex with clients. Gorgeous, but not my type. Can be kick ass if she wants, but unlike you and Zoe, doesn't scare most men."
"Some could say you have weird taste in woman if you're attracted to woman that scare other men."
"I think it makes you even hotter then you already are."
"Yeah, you are weird and yet your awkward charm is something I find very appealing. Which says something about my taste. Well, let's go meet them. Try not to freak out."
"Unless River can read us and I really don't know if she can, given we're not entirely human, then we should be able to keep something's to ourselves." Xander said, getting serious. "Unfortunately, she's not mentally stable because of what the government did to her, so the others might think she's just acting crazy. I don't like thinking that about her. She has enough to deal with, without us making it worse."
"If it looks like we're causing a problem we can just leave." Cordelia assured him. "I wonder if this means there's realities with some of those Star shows you like. Maybe we'll end up in one of them."
"Might not be a good idea if we did." Xander said as they walked towards them ship.
"Why not?" Cordelia asked.
"Star Trek has gods of its own, as well as versions of our gods. But it also has Q. Just that, a letter. It refers to individual members, as well as the Q Continuum, which is their home. Some sort of evolved lifeform. Not really omniscient, but they like to pretend they are. One in particular is very bored and causes a lot of problems. He's way out of our league. And Star Wars has the Force, which may be a galaxy wide form of Magic. It's possible it could clash severely with ours. Probably best not to risk it. Babylon 5 would be fun, right up until I remember there are two evolved races that caused possibly trillions of deaths on hundreds of worlds over at least a million years. Because of a philosophical debate. Then I'd probably lose my temper. Badly."
"Yeah, you're right. Let's not risk it."
"Oh, I just remembered. Remember the guy Dark Willow souped up, who was going to gouge out other me's eye? The actor that played him in the Firefly show looks just like him. I didn't realize that sooner. But then I wasn't thinking about Firefly until we got here."
