Ch. 8: Let the plotting begin:Harry and Snape reveal the truth to Minerva and Remus and start plotting their revenge
The next morning
Severus was an early riser so while he waited for Harry to wake up he decided to brew some healing potions in the lab. Being in the lab relaxed Severus and he found himself reflecting on what could have been with Lily and Harry. 'We could have had even more children. If it was up to Lily I can imagine we would have had a quidditch team of children! I can imagine some with her fiery red hair and our kids would definitely be mischievous since Sirius and James would have taught them the marauder ways. Although I would like to think that Lily, Remus and I would balance out that mischief with our brains and logic. And Minverva would have loved to spoil all those grandchildren. She will spoil Harry even more than she does now once we get her flushed. I am grateful for Harry, he truly is Lily's son. I haven't noticed any of my traits in him yet but maybe by the end of the summer I will.' Severus thought as he stirred his potions. After a few hours Severus was done with his potions and decided to head up to the kitchen to see if Harry was awake.
As he approached the kitchen the sound of Harry's laughter and the smell of cinnamon filled the air. When he got to the kitchen he froze in the doorway. The floor, his son, Coral, and the counter were covered in flour. "Uh, hi dad" Harry smiled the biggest cheshire grin at Severus. "Coral and I are just uh…. cooking breakfast for everyone." Severus laughed, "I can see that son. And what are you and Coral cooking because as much as I like the kitchen, I don't think I want to eat the floor or counter for breakfast." he smirked at his son. Harry turned beet red, "well you see Coral told me that the ministry cannot track underage magic here and I decided to test it out. I tried to cook these cinnamon rolls with magic but uh it's harder than it looks so flour got everywhere. Then one thing led to another and Coral and I were having a flour fight. But breakfast is almost ready so if you could go to the informal dining room and call the elves that would be appreciated". Severus smiled and made his way to the informal dining room. In the middle of breakfast there was a tap at the window from Hewdig. Harry let her in and she flew to Severus to give him the responses and then proceeded to steal some of his bacon. "Cheeky bird," Severus muttered. Harry laughed and said, "well I am glad she will no longer be stealing bacon from only me."
Severus threw his son an amused look as he opened his letters. "Griphook agrees we should bring Minerva and Remus to Gringotts to explain everything and have them flushed. Minerva said she can meet us at Gringotts at noon today and Remus said he can also meet us at noon. So after breakfast we should go to the library to collect our research, get ready to go to the alley to do some shopping before we head to Gringotts. Oh and before we floo to the Leaky Cauldron we will need to charm ourselves to look a little different even though we have changed a little since the flush it isn't enough where people won't recognize us." Harry just nodded as his dad as he shoved a cinnamon roll into his mouth.
A couple of hours and some minor changes ready, Severus and Harry were ready to go to Diagon Alley. "Now son, walk into the fireplace, clearly say the location and take a small step forward as you say your destination since that will help you not fall on your face when you land." Severus explained to Harry. Harry grabbed some floo powder from the mantle, closed his eyes, clearly stated, "Diagon Alley" as he threw the powder and took a small step forward. When he opened his eyes he was standing up right in the fireplace of the Leaky Cauldron. 'I did it!' Harry thought as he stepped out of the fireplace and waited for his dad. Severus stepped out of the fireplace a few seconds later and grabbed Harry's shoulder to guide him through the pub to the entrance to the alley. As the entrance opened Harry whispered, "No matter how many times I come here the first view of the alley is always just as magical." Snape looked at his son and said, "You sound just like your mother." Harry looked up at him and smiled at the compliment.
"First we need to get you some clothes. We should get both wizard and muggle clothes. We will go to Twilfitt and Tatting's for your clothes because they are made with a better quality than Madam Malkin's. Then we can explore Flourish and Blotts before we head to Gringotts." Severus told his son. "Uh dad, is clothes shopping going take a long time because I don't need that many clothes." Harry rushed out. "Harry we both need clothes that reflect our standing in society so yes you really do need more clothes. And those rags the muggles had you wear are not fit for play clothes for you so you need a whole new wardrobe." Severus explained. Harry just sighed and walked towards Twilfitt and Tatting's. Two hours, several bags of shrunken clothes and one moody teenager later the Snape family was done shopping for clothes. "That was the worst experience of my life," Harry sighed dramatically, "Those ladies were nosey and oh my god all the giggling!" Seveurs just smirked in amusement at his son, "Ah yes the struggles of being a young, handsome man who is getting all the attention of many witches. It is quite a tough life to have." Harry just gave his dad a dirty look and stuck his tongue out which caused Severus to laugh even harder at his son. "Let's go get some books, you so not funny dungeon bat" Harry said cheekily as he grabbed his dad's hand and dragged him to the bookstore. Since his flush, Harry has noticed he has much more ferocious love of books. 'I mean both dad and mum love books so it makes sense their love of books passed on to me. Damn old goat and dursleys for causing me to not love books.' Harry thought. Harry was browsing the charms section and Severus was over in the potions section. They would have stayed longer if it were not for Severus's alarm going off on his watch reminding them they need to be in Gringotts in 5 minutes.
The Snape's walked up to Griphook's station so he could lead them to the Prince family conference room before Remus and Minerva would meet them. "Agnar will look out for the other two and then he will bring them here so we can perform the ritual. After they view their results Isis will bring them down to her ritual room to flush them and she thinks they aren't as potioned and spelled as you two so they should only need to rest for 45 min or so. Once they are done with Isis she will bring them back so you can bring them to Slytherin manor and start plotting your revenge." Griphook explained. "Wow Griphook you thought of everything!" Harry exclaimed. Griphook looked at Harry with amusement twinkling in his eyes, "Harry it is my job to be prepared but I appreciate the admiration from you." Harry blushed and looked down at his feet. "Griphook while Minerva and Remus are getting flushed do you think we could look into how to contact Sirius? Also, we need to figure out a way to contact Tom. That may be the most difficult thing to do because I believe Dumbeldore caused him to dabble in some very dark magic." Snape said and then turned towards his son, "Harry when we discuss what to do about Tom can you explain to Griphook what happened at the end of this past school year? I have a theory but I wish for Griphook to hear your story and see if he can confirm what I am thinking." Snape asked. Harry just nodded at his father.
There was a soft knock at the door. "Come in," Griphook stated. In walked Agnar with Remus and Minerva. Isis was behind the group and she walked over to Harry and gave him a big hug. "Ah Harry, I missed you" she said dramatically. Harry chuckled, "Isis it has only been a day but I have missed you too my fair lady." Griphook and Severus laughed at the two's antics while Remus and Minerva looked on at the scene in confusion. "Um..excuse me but can someone explain why we are here." Remus asked softly. Severus and Harry looked at Griphook and nodded at him so he could explain everything. Griphook asked them to perform the ritual scan before he told them what was happening since looking at their results would help make the story make sense. Both readily agreed and were shocked at their results. Remus looked sad, while Minerva was ready to storm out the room and strangle Albus with his own beard. Harry was able to calm down his grandma and convinced her rushing out would not help any of them. Isis took Remus and Minverva to be flushed while Severus and Harry stayed behind with Griphook.
Harry and Severus took out their research journals so they could ask Griphook which route would be the best to take to clear Sirius's name. "Griphook, since you got Amelia Bones involved, do we leave Sirius declared innocent to her or is there something else we could be doing?" Severus asked. "Amelia should be able to do it but maybe offer her any support she may need. You know Albus has spies in the ministry so having the backing of a prominent lord such as yourself and some allies could help her. Speaking of allies, we may want to check the Malfoys and Longbottoms to make sure Dumbledore didn't do anything to them." Griphook stated. Harry sighed because he wished there was more he could do to help Sirius. 'I may not remember him but no one should be sent to prison on a false charge and left there to rot away.' he thought. Griphook turned to the young green eyed wizard and said, "I know Harry it is hard when it feels like you cannot help an innocent man but I promise Amelia Bones is a witch who believes in justice and she will fight hard to make sure justice is seen. Now can you tell me what happened last school year?" Harry took a deep breath to tell the tale of his second year. He explained how he heard voices all year, finding the diary, talking to Aragog, convincing Lockhart to follow them to the chamber, Myrtle's story, the battle in the chamber, and the diary that caused everything to happen.
Severus and Griphook looked at Harry in a whole new light. 'My son is a true Gryffindor. I wish he didn't have to suffer alone the last two years with the challenges Dumbledore has created for him.' Griphook started writing his thoughts down on parchment as soon as Harry finished his story. "Harry, what you faced as a 12 year old is something that no 12 year old should have faced. First, since you slayed the basilisk you have the right to sell its parts for quite a fortune. Second, after listening to you talk about the diary it sounds like Dumbledore forced Tom to make horcruxes which are soul containers and some of the darkest magic known to wizards. I can ask some of our top curse breakers for a ritual to destroy the horcruxes and make Tom whole again. This may take some time but once they have a plan I will owl for you." Griphook explained. Griphook wrote a note on a piece of parchment and called for Agnar to take the note to the head of the curse breakers. Harry got out of chair to stretch his legs and as he was stretching his stomach growled. "Ummm…Griphook is it possible to get a snack while we wait?" Harry asked. Griphook pushed a button on his intercom and a minute later a small goblin came in carrying a tray laden with sandwiches, fruit, chips, and water for everyone. Harry grabbed a sandwich and then quickly grabbed some fruit after he saw his dad giving him a pointed look. "Before Minerva and Remus can go back home with you, it is required to add them to your ward book. Call your head elf and then ask for the ward book. Once you have the book you can add the names of people who can enter the manor without having you to greet them at the gate." Griphook explained. Severus called for Hydra, asked for the ward book, and followed the directions Griphook had given to add Remus and Minerva to the book. Harry had just finished his lunch when Isis came in with a more relaxed looking Remus and Minerva.
Minerva rushed over to Severus and hugged him as tears streamed down her face. "Oh Severus, my son! I am so sorry. I wish I could have raised you but know that I am so proud of all you have accomplished even with all the manipulations that Albus has done with your life." She whispered and then moved on to Harry. "Harry I am so sorry for allowing Albus to leave you with those muggles, even with the potions in me I knew they would be the worst people to raise you. I wish I could have done more for you these past two years at Hogwarts. I promise to be there for you whenever you need it." Harry hugged her back and whispered, "Thanks granny". Minerva looked down at the messy haired teen in her arms and felt so much love in heart she could have produced the world's brightest patronus. Remus looked at the two Snapes and said, "Severus and Harry I am so sorry for everything. Sev I am sorry for ignoring you after James and Lily died. Albus caused me to forget our friendship. Harry, I am so sorry for abandoning you, my cub. Albus caused me to feel tremendous guilt every time I thought of you so it caused me to stay away. I should have been Uncle Moony to you but that manipulative old goat took that away from you." Harry looked at Remus and suddenly a memory of Remus reading him a story by the fire flashed before him. "Uncle Moony", he whispered," I remember you. You read to me by the fireplace." Remus smiled at Harry and nodded, "That's right Harry. James said I was teaching you the wrong things to love but Lily loved it and took so many pictures of us." Griphook went over the wills of Lily and James with the two newcomers. Minerva was excited to read the journals because some of them could help her with her experimental projects. Remus was stunned that James and Lily were so generous towards him and he blushed when he heard Lily's advice to Sirius.
"Remus and Minerva, would you like to join us at our home, Slytherin Manor, for the rest of the summer so we can spend time as a family, train, and make plans for the future?" Severus asked. Both were eager to join Harry and Severus at the manor. They couldn't wait to bond as a family, and were looking forward to helping fully reunite their family as soon as possible. Harry called for Hydra and asked for her to go to Hogwarts to pack clothes for Minerva and go to Remus's cottage to grab his clothes and bring everything back to the manor. "You are both in the ward book so you can floo back and forth from the manor but today if you could hold on to my ring we can portkey directly from here." Snape explained, "Isis and Griphook thank you once again for everything you have done for our family and we will be in touch soon." And with that the three wizards and one witch disappeared from the bank and landed in the front lawn of Slytherin manor.
Remus and Minerva looked at the manor in front of them in awe. "Remus close your mouth, you're letting flies in." Severus smirked. Remus and Minvera were shaken out of their amazement as Harry laughed and led the group inside. "Uncle Moony, Granny welcome to our humble home" Harry smirked as he waved his arm in a welcoming gesture. "Oh yes, so humble" Remus said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes. Harry was more than happy to play tour guide and show off the manor. The last place the group ended up was the family wing where Harry and Severus' rooms were. "Granny you can take the master bedroom down at the end of the hall since once we are able to help grandpa he will become Lord Slytherin. Remus you can have either the room next to mine or the one next to my dad. We can give Sirius whatever room you don't choose." Harry said. Minerva walked into the master suite and gasped at the luxury. Remus chose the room next to Severus and was amazed at his new home. Severus led the group to the library so they could talk and research. "I think I am in love" Remus gushed as they went to the center table. "Now what will a certain gray eyed wizard think when he hears that?" Minerva quipped. Harry and Severus were laughing and Remus just glared at her and said, "Well Minnie, Sirius happened to love my love of books in the past so imagine that hasn't changed".
The group started sharing stories for Harry's sake so he could learn more about his family. There was a lot of laughter in the room as Minerva told tales of the marauders in Hogwarts. Her shock in learning Severus and Lily helped the other boys ("I thought they were my model, rule-abiding students!" she exclaimed) caused Harry to roll on the floor with laughter and gasping out, "my rule breaking is genetic!" which caused everyone to laugh even harder. Some tears were shed as everyone reflected on what life could have been like for their family. "Dad? Can we change our names so Riddle is our last name and we can have our family name?" Harry asked. Severus smiled, "Of course son. Although we should ask Griphook how my lordship and your future lordship will change our last names. But I would love to have our family name. Let us show Dumbledore he should have never messed with the Riddle family." Harry had never felt so much love in one room and it excited him to reunite with Sirius and his grandpa to complete their little family.
"Uh guys…how do we explain to the wizarding world that the wizard they thought was an evil, psychotic lord actually is just a man who was manipulated by the man everyone thought was the life saving light wizard?" Harry asked. No one said anything for a few minutes as they all just stared at each other. "I think when Tom is reunited with us we have to take small steps to break Albus's control of the wizarding world. So Tom can take up his lordship and enter into politics to help undo some of the laws Albus has pushed through. We can use the press to start sowing the seeds of doubt in Albus and then for his unmasking we will have to think of something big." Minerva explained. Severus told the two newcomers what Griphook had said about what to do to help Sirius and how they should look to get some of their allies checked out. "Minerv…mom, how did you get out of Hogwarts without raising suspicion from the bearded one?" Severus asked. "Well it wasn't easy but I convinced him after decades of teaching without really taking summers off I decided to take a well deserved vacation by myself. He was rather nosey and wanted to know where I was going but I told him I deserve my own secrets like everyone else." She smirked.
They decided to leave the library to go to the kitchen to see what Harry and Coral could whip up for dinner. While Harry was cooking with Coral ( Caesar salad and baby back ribs with a side of mashed potatoes) the other three were seated in the little kitchen nook discussing what the rest of summer should look like. "I know you want to train Harry but we should remember he needs time to be a kid and relax. We don't want him to burn out before he goes back to Hogwarts." Remus said. Minerva and Severus nodded in agreement. "I believe we could come up with a schedule and make sure to plan downtime for everyone. Maybe we could even plan a trip to one of our properties that is far away from here so we can be safe while we relax." Severus said. Minerva smiled at her son, " A family vacation sounds like a great idea. Maybe somewhere tropical so we can relax on a beach." Remus smiled at the two and nodded in agreement. Harry overheard the conversation and yelled, "If I get a say in where we go, can we go to America instead of somewhere tropical? I have been researching Salem and Boston and I really want to go there." Severus chuckled at his son and reassured he would look into a visit to the states.
As the family at dinner they tried to figure out a good schedule for the summer. "I think we should split the training into two days for the rest of July from 8-4 with an hour lunch break in the middle of the day. And then go to a three day a week training schedule in August to make sure I am ready to at least protect myself in Hogwarts if Dumbeldore is ever to corner me." Harry said. Minerva was both proud of her grandson for wanting to work hard over his summer but sad that he had to train like an adult. Severus looked at the other two and they had a silent conversation. Severus glanced at his son and sighed, "Unfortunately not training you is not an option so your plan sounds like a solid one. Harry, I wish you could have had a normal childhood. No one as young as you should worry about being trained properly to fight. We will take a trip the first week of August to relax before we finish the training." Minerva hugged her grandson and said softly, "Your father and I will be in Hogwarts with you and we will protect you when we can but we can't be with you 24/7. I am happy to help train you but I wish you didn't need it." Harry smiled sadly at his grandma, "I wish I didn't either but Dumbledore didn't let me have a normal childhood ." Harry got out his notebook as he and his family set up their training schedule for the next two months.
