Chapter 2 -
A/n: I know I said this was going to be a drabble book but my muse lied lol. I hope you enjoy it anyway!
Lucky Spencer stretched that morning careful to not wake Lulu, he blinked around at his surroundings as he jumped not expecting anyone else to be in the room. His eyes landed on Nikolas, Emily and Elizabeth, the people he had all but abandoned these past few months.
"She's missed you." Nikolas noted softly.
"I've missed her, too. I…have so much to apologize for. I don't even know how I'm supposed to make it up to all of you. My mom would be ashamed at the way I've acted, I barely recognized myself. Last night was the first time I felt anything like myself in…months." Lucky sighed, he felt as if he was in a haze knowing the withdrawals would kick in soon.
"Your mother lapsed into a coma unexpectedly, I understand you were hurting. That doesn't make what you did right but, I know you Lucky. You're always going to make up for your mistakes." Elizabeth gave him a soft look, she still loves him despite everything.
"Lucky, how did you just go cold turkey? You were using it pretty heavily." Emily sat down in an empty chair across from her friend, she knew how addiction worked.
"I don't know…last night I was at a party, and Marie gave me a line to do. All of a sudden a panicked feeling washed over me. Call me crazy but, I think it was mom. I know she's not dead but she always had a way of reminding me of what's really important. I needed to get home to my sister, I just left her to her own devices. She's only six years old, it's almost her seventh birthday and she has to celebrate it without her mother. I left when things got hard for me, I was selfish." Lucky just wanted to kick himself.
"Be that as it may, you're here now. You came back, that counts for something. Lulu won't be alone on her birthday, we'll make it extra special." Emily smiled, glancing over at the young blonde sleeping soundly.
"The fact that you feel guilty about it means that you care, Lulu isn't going to be alone. I know it's going to be hard but she has the best big brothers anyone could ever ask for." Elizabeth softly smiled, looking from Nikolas to Lucky.
"She begged me not to leave her, she was up at one in the morning. I know the withdrawals are going to kick in and make me sick but, for my sister I will do anything. I promised her when she was sick that I would never let her be alone in this world. I messed up but I need to keep that promise. Nik, our sister needs us. I know Dad is probably going to go off somewhere for a while, honestly maybe that's what he needs." Lucky sighed, he couldn't forgive himself just yet.
"She's scared, I know she puts on a brave face but…Lulu's still a little girl. If Luke leaves she'll be okay, because she has all of us. I need you to stop beating yourself up over this, we'll help you." Nikolas promises him, putting a hand on Lucky's shoulder. They all heard a light yAwn, as Lulu stretched out her arms propping herself up on her elbows.
"Do I smell waffles?" Lulu sniffed the air wafting from downstairs.
"I…think so. Did you guys do that?" Lucky sniffed, smelling the scent of batter.
"No, we came straight up here." Emily shakes her head.
"DADDY!" Lulu jumped out of bed and raced downstairs.
"Funny, I thought Laura did all of the cooking." Elizabeth says, more than a little surprised.
"Dad cooks sometimes, he just let mom do it because it made her happy. Being a mom and a wife made her happy. Growing up Dad had to be the man of the house, his father was abusive to him and Aunt Bobbie. Dad took care of her, we had a talk last night. Dad said that he was going to quit drinking and try to be better. I didn't know if he meant it or not but, this is a start." Lucky stands up from the bed, feeling a little woozy.
"Are you okay? Maybe it's better if you lay down. You're going to be sick for a while." Elizabeth grabbed his shoulder, afraid he might fall.
"I think maybe you're right." Lucky agreed, staggering to his room with Elizabeth's help.
"Liz, I'm so sorry. For everything. I know that doesn't change what I did but, I had to let you know." Lucky sighed as he lay down.
"I was hurt but I understood. I'm glad you're back, I've been over here every day after work and school to check on things. Luke and Lulu have been a wreck. Lulu's been a lot more clingy." Elizabeth sighs, sitting on the edge of his bed.
"That's understandable, I just wish I wasn't sick so I could be down there." Lucky says, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
"It's okay, I'm sure they understand.
As Lulu rushed down the stairs she was shocked to find the living room spotless, no more empty bottles or anything! Lulu wandered into the kitchen, following the sweet scent of breakfast food. Luke Spencer was standing over the waffle maker, scooping waffles onto a plate.
"Good morning darling, are you hungry?" Luke smiled at her, setting the plate on the kitchen table.
"Not without syrup I'm not." Lulu smirked, pulling out a chair and sitting down.
"Of course not, how could I forget?" Luke smiled, getting the butter and syrup out of the fridge and placing it on the table.
"Daddy…are you okay?" Lulu asked.
"Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?" Luke smiled.
"Because of what happened." Lulu bit her lip, Luke's smile turned into a frown.
"I know that this is going to be a change and I miss your mother dearly, I know you do too. I haven't been the best dad lately but I'm trying." Luke sat down beside his daughter, touching her shoulder.
"You're the best daddy, you never left." Lulu threw her arms around Luke.
"You make an old man proud to be your father, Lesley Lu." Luke hugged her tightly, putting a waffle on a plate.
"Can you cut it up for me like mommy does?" She asked.
"Anything for my princess." Luke smirked spreading butter on the waffle and pouring syrup over it and cutting it up.
"Daddy?" Lulu Asked.
"Hmm?" Luke asked.
"Can we go see Aunt Bobbie and Lucas?" She wonders, taking a bite of her waffle.
"I'll call Barbara Jean and see." Even though Lucas was quite a bit older than Lulu, they got along better than most.
"Do you think I could meet Mr. Jones's daughter's? They seem so nice." Lulu really wanted some friends.
"That can be arranged, let me go call your aunt." Luke smiled, kissing her forehead, going to the phone and dialing his sister.
"Hello?" Bobbie asked.
"Hey Barbra Jean, it's me. I was wondering what you and Lucas were getting into today, Lulu really needs some friends. She's…lonely." Luke sighed, trying to keep his voice down.
"Of course, I can stop by after my shift. Lucas has been begging me and Tony to come over, it warms my heart that our kids are so close. You know, we didn't have it easy growing up." Bobbie allowed herself to smile.
"Me too, me too. I'll see you then." Luke hung up the phone as there was a knock on the door, he strides over to answer it. On the other side was his old friend Robert Scorpio, his daughter Robin was with him as were two little girls.
"Good morning mate, I thought Lulu could use some company. These are Frisco and Felicia's daughters Georgie and Maxie." Robert smiled, ushering the girls into the house.
"Of course, are you guys hungry? There's plenty of waffles to go around." Luke smiled at the young girls.
"Thank you, Mr. Spencer." Both girls said, and sat down at the kitchen table with Lulu.
"Is Lucky doing any better?" Robin asked.
"Lucky…came home last night, I'm not sure. He's up there if you want to see him for yourself." Lucky pointed upstairs, Robin went upstairs.
"Are you okay? I know that this is a lot." Robert pulled Luke aside.
"I'm breathing…I'm trying for my children. Laura was always so much better at this than I am." Luke sighed.
"I know what you mean, I'm here if you need me."
"I'm Maxie Jones, you're my best friend now." Maxie reached over and clasped Lulu's hand.
