Professor Whisp had recovered by the next day, thanks to the skill of Filius Flitwick. With the backing of Professors Flitwick and Snape, Professor Whisp discussed the Lockhart issue with the headmaster. It turned out that Lockhart was surprisingly skilled in the crafting of magical contracts, and the wizarding world was unfortunately lax when it came to love potions and similar manipulation. They would be stuck with him for the remainder of the year.

Other faculty and staff pitched in to ensure the two would be separated. The task was made easier by Lockhart's strategic avoidance of Snape after an especially powerful expelliarmus. Aside from an ill-fated attempt on Valentine's Day, they were largely successful. By the end of the year, Lockhart's long account of misdeeds finally caught up with him. He would be spending next year at St. Mungo's rather than Hogwarts.

Evelyn spent her summer studying with an ancient Pythia in Greece. She collected a few small souvenirs to bring back to her colleagues at Hogwarts to thank them for all of their help the previous year, some wine for the newly appointed Professor Hagrid, some sweets for Minerva, some wonderful seeds for Pomona. She spent a bit more time searching for just the right gift for one Severus Snape. She settled on some mastiha resin, only found on the island of Chios, rumored to contain potent healing properties.
