Tobin's Spirit Guide

John Horace Tobin is one of the most famous experts on ghosts. Now a ghost himself, the pompous poltergeist is writing a new version of his eponymous Spirit Guide, telling you stories about the most famous and bizarre entities in the Ghostbusters mythos, and injecting his own witty remarks throughout.

3. Winky, Brainy, and Pokey

Ah, Winky. One of the first ghosts I had to teach as part of my new job. He is an Ectoplast and Class V Full Roaming Vapor, a purple glob of ectoplasm with sharp teeth and almost a dozen eyeballs. How exactly he came to be, I have no idea, but he's a lovely guy! Like all Ectoplasts, he loves throwing his slime all over the place. Don't misinterpret that please, he's a ghost. He has developed the ability to form a large tornado of slime around him, and dispense a large volume of purple ooze onto the ground in a pool directly beneath him, in a way no other ghost has mastered. He is a bit of a curmudgeon, but who can blame him? He's probably less than a year old in spirit age, and already people in elaborate suits are waving laser beams at him and trying to stop his fun! Ghosts can't help being mischievous, you know. Alas, Ghostbusters are a necessity for the human and ghost worlds to coexist, so take solace in the fact that this spook is not one of the deadlier ones. Since it will not take much longer to discuss, I shall document Winky's… brothers? Cousins? I have no flipping clue, but the purple ghost bears a strong resemblance to them.

Brainy is a fleshy pink ghost made entirely of the spectral equivalent of human brain matter, complete with two eyes, a nose, and a delightfully goopy mouth. I believe this spook came to be as a result of a well renowned scholar researching too deeply into dark passages and tomes of ancient times, accidentally conjuring a spirit themed around the mind. Ironically, Brainy is a total idiot, but being able to spit slime long range certainly helps.

Pokey is a one eyed, pale colored spirit covered head to tail with spectral spikes. If I recall correctly, he appeared one day in a section of a museum devoted to medieval torture devices. I suppose the residual pain and misery eventually gained physical form. It would seem this incorporation of spikes into his body allows for firing slime in the form of a spear at incredibly long distances. If you're playing spectral target practice, Pokey is your guy.

All three of these spirits may be new to the whole haunting thing, but they are positively brimming with potential.
