Chapter Three: Michaela Hates Ian
The next morning Michaela got dressed up in a nice outfit ready for the day, she had a few things to do. She walked into the kitchen by her mother who was pouring herself some coffee and placing a plate of scrambled eggs in front of her. "These are for baby girl," she says, Michaela grabs the plate and brings it to the table where Shay is sitting sipping on some apple juice. "Here you go, honey," she gives it to her child who picks up the fork by her and starts eating the eggs. "She loves eggs," Michaela says walking to the fridge to pour herself some juice, she was never a coffee person. She grabs the orange juice and places it on the counter, walks to the cabinet, and grabs a glass. "I heard her this morning, she was naming all the ways she's tried her eggs before," Ashley tells her as she begins to pour some juice into the glass. "What are your plans for the day?" Ashley asks, looking at her daughter a little dressed up in a nice top and jeans. "Well, Shay and I, are going to go enroll her in school, I'm going to go pick up Hanna's assignments from the high school and I'm going to look around for a job," she tells her mother her plans. "I have dinner plans with the Hastings tonight, so I won't be here when Hanna gets home," she informs her mother. "That's fine, we'll do something tomorrow," Ashley sips on her coffee, "I'm going to pick her up after work, what time are you going to the Hastings tonight?" she asks her daughter wanting to know. "Um," she sips on her juice, then answers. "I'll ask, but I'm bringing Shay with me, so you don't have to worry about her," she tells her mother. "Ok, well enjoy your day, honey, I'll see you later," Ashley tells her and heads to the front door. Michaela walks to the table and sits across from Shay, she watches her eat her breakfast.
When Spencer woke up in the morning, it didn't take her long to get ready for the day. She found a good outfit, put some makeup on, and grabbed her school bag, she walked down the steps and into the living room. "Good morning," she says announcing her presence. Her parents are standing by the island in the kitchen, her mother sipping on coffee and eating some toast with jelly, her father pouring coffee into a to-go mug. "Morning, honey," her mother says. "Um," she says after swallowing the bite she just ate. "Do you remember Melissa's friend Chaela?" she asks her. "Yeah, I saw her last night at the hospital," Spencer tells her mother as she walked closer. "Your mother invited her to dinner tonight," Peter says while Veronica sips on her coffee. "Awesome," she says looking at them. "It's been so long since she's been here, I missed her being around," she adds. "Do you want a ride, Spencer? I was just leaving," her father says walking towards the door. "Thanks, Dad," Spencer and Peter exit the door and head to his car.
When she got to school, she walked to the table where Aria and Emily are sitting waiting for the bell to ring. Aria is still nervous about asking Noel out on a date, she had a crush on him years ago, ok maybe a few months ago as of recent but still, she was over it, she was with Ezra now. Even though she couldn't tell her friends about him, she was with him. "Guys," she begins to say. "What if he says no, what am I supposed to then?" she asks her friends, worried about what's going to go down. "It's Noel, he won't say no," Emily says trying to reassure her friend that Noel was just like any guy who liked cute girls like her. "You'll do ok, I'm just worried about the breaking and entering," she says in a low voice, just as Noel walks by them and sits down next to Aria. "Aria, can I talk to you for a second?" he asks her, she looks at her friends. "Um, we'll go," Spencer jesters towards Noel with her head, as she stands up with Emily. "We'll see you later at lunch," she adds and walks away. Noel sits backward, his back against the table, he looks at Aria. "So…" she begins to say, he stops her. "I saw you the other night," he tells her, admitting it was him. "You saw me?" she asks, wanting to know what he saw. "Yeah, in Mr. Fitz's car, you were together, alone," he adds, so he knows. He saw them. "You know I could go to the principal, tell him what I saw," Noel says sounding like he's trying to blackmail her, Aria thinks on her feet. "It was nothing, we were just talking," she begins to say. "That's not what I saw," Noel tells her. Aria can't believe what's going down right now. "So, whatever it was, it's over," she tells him, trying to get him from not going to the authorities or the principal. "Oh, Aria, you think I'm stupid," he starts to tell her when she interrupts him. "If it wasn't would I ask you out for this weekend?" she asks him.
Noel thinks about it for a second. "You, you're asking me out?" Noel is a little shocked, he always liked Aria, she was beautiful, and they had some things in common, he was afraid she was too good for him. "Yeah," she confirms what he just asked. "Sure, this Friday, I'll pick you up at seven," he says. The bell rings. "Just to let you know, I wasn't going to say anything, just wanted to let you know I saw you two," he tells her, stands up, and walks into the school to his class. Aria stands up and walks towards Emily and Spencer, who is standing near the school entrance as other students enter the building. "What happened?" Emily asks her friend. "I have a date, Friday at 7," Aria tells them. "Perfect," Spencer says, and they all walk into the building.
Michaela has already enrolled Shay into elementary school, she's going to start tomorrow, before she goes to pick up Hanna's schoolwork, she needed to go to talk to someone. This someone was apart of the secret she was warned about last night. So, as she walked into the office building, she walked the secretary's desk and asked her politely to keep an eye on Shay, she needed to talk to this person, without her daughter present. The older lady was nice enough to let Shay sit by her and draw on some paper with a pen while Michaela walked to the door, knocked softly when she hears a voice say. "Come in," she opens the door and sees Peter Hastings sitting at his desk. He stands up as she walks into the room and shuts the door behind her. "I needed to see you before tonight," she begins to say, he walks closer and kisses her, she begins to kiss him back and then gently pushes him away. "Peter…" she says, while looking at his face, wiping away any lipstick she sees. "We can't do this, I thought about it when I saw you last night and I realized It's been over since I left," she tells him. "Your right, Veronica doesn't deserve this," he tells her, that's when she looks at him. "She's the only one who knew, right? You didn't tell anyone else," she says when she remembers that text message from last night. That was another reason why she needed to see Peter, to make sure their secret wasn't out.
Their relationship was brief, it was a few months before she graduated high school, while she was dating Jason. She didn't intentionally seek out to date an older man, she wasn't trying to date her best friend's father, but his relationship was falling apart and when Michaela found out Veronica's secret, and she found out about the affair, it was something the three of them shared. It ended when she left for California, all her Rosewood relationships did. "I've never told a soul, you told me Veronica found out, and that our secret was safe," he informs her of what he knew. She turns around and thinks about it, someone else knew unless Veronica texted her. "Someone else knows," she tells him, she turns back around is a little worried about how her family would feel if they found out about this. "I got a message last night," she adds, scared. He walks closer to her, puts his hands on her shoulders trying to calm her down. "I don't know how someone would know, but I'll talk to Veronica, maybe she sent the message," he brings her in for a hug, she hugs him back. It brings back the reasons why she fell for him, he wasn't just a good person, he was loving. When she left, she realized his love was a substitute for the love her father never showed, he was the father figure she always needed. "Thanks for this, I'll see you tonight," she tells him and exits his office. She walks to her daughter and thanks the secretary for keeping an eye on her. "Thank you so much," she says as Shay holds up the picture she drew. "This is for you mommy," she hands it to her. "It's so beautiful," she says looking at the rainbow with her and Shay in it. "I love it," she says and they both walk to the rental that Michaela got this morning.
After meeting with Peter, she decided to go to the high school and get Hanna's assignments that she missed. She walked to Principal Newman's office and knocked on the door, slowly opening when Newman said come in. She walked in with Shay holding her hand. "Michaela Marin, back in Rosewood High," Newman walked up to her and hugged her, she was always a good student and the principal loved her. "It's been so long; you have a kid?" she questioned when she notices Shay. "Hi, I'm Shay," she says introducing herself. "Hi, Shay, I'm Ms. Grace," Principal Newman says introducing herself. "I never would have imagined you coming back to Rosewood, you were destined for greatness," she looks at Michaela. "I loved you on One Beautiful World, Dominique was such a bitch," she says and realized what she said. "Oh, I'm sorry," she says looking at Shay. "That's ok, she's heard it all before, I actually allow her to curse, as long she uses it right," Michaela says being honest with her about her parenting. She doesn't care if Shay uses inappropriate language as long as it is used correctly and not in front of other adults.
"I'm here to get my sister's assignments she's missed," she tells Grace and watches as she walks to her printer and looks up Hanna's name, and prints out a schedule for her. "Well, they should also tell you the due dates but I'll tell them to give her an extra few days since she was in an accident," she says grabbing the schedule from the printer and handing it over. As Michaela grabs the paper, she thinks about dragging Shay around the school. "Would you mind keeping an eye on her while I grab these assignments? I don't want to have to drag her around while I collect it," she asks her former principal nicely. "I don't mind at all, I can get to know this little cutie," Grace says holding out her hand. "I'll be right back, ok, honey," Michaela tells her daughter while she glances over the schedule, she's surprised that drama wasn't one of Hanna's classes. "No drama?" she asks. "No teacher," the principal gets an idea. "You wouldn't be interested, would you?" Michaela looks at her. "As a teacher?" she questions this, slightly considering this. "I am looking for a job. Could I get back to you? Drama was one of my favorite classes," she tells her. "Take your time," she says as Michaela walks away, and Grace brings Shay into her office.
The first class on Hanna's schedule was Mr. Fitz, English. She walked to the room and notices the door open with an empty classroom, the teacher, a young guy around her age sitting at the desk. Michaela walks in and gets his attention. "Mr. Fitz?" she asks grabbing attention away from the work on his desk. "Yes." He says looking at her. "Hi, I'm…" she begins to introduce herself when he stands up and walks towards her. "Aydan Cole / Dominque Hampton," he says making her smile. "You watch One Beautiful World?" she asks as he throws out his hand to shake, she shakes it. "Yeah, it's a guilty pleasure," he says as they lose grip of each other's hands. "I'm Michaela, Hanna's sister," she tells him, he feels dumb for a second. "I'm sorry, I should've never stopped you from introducing yourself," he adds. She's used to it, people know her from the roles she's played, and she's never regretted any of them, they were all a part of her. "It's fine, Mr. Fitz," she says smiling. "Call me Ezra," he says leaning against his desk. "I'm here for any work Hanna has missed, Ezra," she says looking him over. He's a nice-looking guy, around her age or maybe a little older. He goes into desk and pulls out To Kill A Mockingbird and a paper he folds in half, placing it into the book. "I've assigned the book and a paper on the book; all the information is on the syllabus I added inside." He tells her and she grabs it from the hand he extended out with it. "I love this book, the movie is a classic," she tells him. He looks her over, he finds her attractive and is loving talking to her at this moment. "It's playing at the old theatre this Friday," he begins to tell her. He's had a crush on her since he saw her on One Beautiful World a few years back and this was a dream come true from Ezra and Michaela's feeling something as well. "Would you want to see it with me?" he asks her, she looks at him. "That could be nice," she smiles, walks to his desk grabbing a pen and a post it, she writes down her number on it and walks towards the door. "Call me," she says when she walks out of the doorway.
She begins to walk to the second classroom, when she turns a corner and sees Ian Thomas standing at the end of the hall, she turns back around and hides. She does not want to run into him, she hates Ian, ever since an incident they had in high school. She waits a few more seconds and turns around to see him gone. If moving back to Rosewood means avoiding Ian Thomas and Garrett Reynolds, then she would. She hated them both with a passion.
After school Spencer headed straight home to start her homework so she doesn't have to worry about it after dinner, she enters the house and hears her mother and father finishing their conversation when they see her. "Spencer, your home," Veronica says looking at her daughter as she shuts the door behind her and heads to the fridge to grab a bottle of water before heading upstairs. "Yeah, Hanna's coming home today, and I have some homework I need to work on," she tells them. "What are you making for dinner tonight with Michaela?" she asks her mother. "Lasagna, it was one of her favorites," she says as they watch Spencer walk upstairs, she gets to the top of the stairs and listens to them talk again. "You don't think she suspects anything?" Peter asks, hoping they did not seem suspicious. Veronica looks at her husband. "I hope not, we don't need any more issues with tonight, are you going to be ok with her here?" she ask her husband who has been more attentive in their relationship in the past couple of years, who really loved her and his family. "We're fine," he tells her. "Let's get ready for dinner," he adds.
Spencer walks to her room, wondering what the hell were they talking about. She was not that suspicious before but now she defiantly is. Her parents are hiding something from her, and she was going to try to find out what it is.
As soon as Aria walked into her bedroom, her phone beeped, it was a message from Noel. She opened it and read it.
Noel: 'You looked beautiful today.'
She smiles when she reads that. She goes to Noel's message and types one back to him.
Aria: 'Thanks. Can't wait for this Friday. What do you want to do?'
Noel: 'To Kill A Mockingbird' is playing at the old theatre, I was wondering if you wanted to go see that.'
Aria loved that movie, she wouldn't mind seeing it with Noel, she lays on her bed texting him.
Aria: 'I love that movie, the book is better, though.'
Noel: 'Yeah, I read the book last year in Donahue's class, it's one of my favorites alongside The Great Gatsby.'
Aria: 'You've read the Great Gatsby?'
She asks him while learning more about Noel.
Noel: 'What? You think I'm just beauty or something. I like to read. I've even read some Nicholas Sparks books. My mom has his collection.'
Aria: 'Which one is your favorite?'
Noel: 'My favorite book is 'A Walk to Remember', my favorite movie is 'The Notebook'.'
Aria: 'You have not seen the Notebook?'
Noel: 'Um… who hasn't?'
Aria and Noel begin to chat some more through text messages.
Michaela has been home for about an hour; she gave Hanna all the assignments her teachers had for her and she's been getting ready for dinner. She took a shower and is letting her hair air dry for its natural waves; she's putting makeup on and has her outfit laid out on her mother's bed. She throws her outfit on, it's a simple off-the-shoulder red top and a pair of black fitted pants, along with some cute ankle boots. After getting dressed she heads downstairs where she has Shay dressed for the dinner as well, she's wearing a cute little dress with sunflowers on it, her red hair into two low pigtails. When she walks in the kitchen, her mother grabs her attention. "You look nice," she says, turning her head to her walking to the kitchen table with Oreo cookies and milk, placing them down in front of Hanna. "Thanks, mom," she tells Ashley. "Thanks," Hanna says as Ashley sits at the table. "I hope you don't mind us going to the Hastings for dinner," Michaela begins to tell them, as she sits down. "Not at all," Ashley tells her, while Hanna snacks on the cookies. "And I promise we'll get out of your hair as soon I get a job and a find a place to live," she tells her mother. Ashley puts her hand on top of Chaela's to comfort her, looks at her daughter. "You don't need to rush, I love having both my girls here," she corrects herself when Shay walks by her mother. "And my granddaughter," she tells them. She told her mother about the job offer from Newman, and she's really considering it, drama was her favorite class in high school. She talked to principal Newman, she said since there was no teacher for the class until next semester it would be a club that she would take care of. It was a nice offer and she would be close to Ezra, who she enjoyed talking to today, that would be a plus. The only negative is she would be working near Ian, who she couldn't stand the sight of.
"Mommy," Shay says holding out her doll with no shirt on. "Can you put this on her?" Michaela takes the doll, picks up the shirt from the table where Shay placed it, and puts it on the doll. "Why don't you go pick up, we're going to be leaving soon," she tells her daughter. "Ok, mommy," Shay says and rushes to the living room to pick up her toys. "I still can't get over it, I'm aunt Hanna," Hanna says, she's sitting in a wheelchair, her broken leg leveled up on the chair. Her sister looks at it. "I still can't believe you were in an accident," she says looking at her leg, Hanna placed a sticker on top of the A on her leg, she didn't want to look at it. Hanna looks at them. "I'm fine, it's going to heal, and I'll be back in my heels as soon as possible," she informs her family. "Well, we should get on our way," she tells them and stands up by the table ready to leave. She was heading to dinner with a surprised guest.
