Chapter 5: The Leap to Seraphis

Days of rigorous training and preparation had culminated in this moment. The team, armed and ready, gathered before the Stargate, their faces resolute. Nick began to address his assembled comrades with unwavering determination. "Our objective is to free the oppressed people under Ramius's rule, but we must be cautious in our approach. Use lethal force only when absolutely necessary. These Jaffa could potentially become valuable allies in our battle against the Goa'uld."

Kaldor added his perspective, "Remember that our primary objective is to take the Al'kesh. After we've taken down Ramius, we will return in force and establish control over the planet, free the people from slavery, and make it a base for our future operations."

Nick wrapped up the conversation with unbridled enthusiasm. "Team, this is it, the moment we've been preparing for! I want to see everyone geared up, ready to roll. Together, we're going to reshape the destiny of this galaxy!" His words ignited a fiery determination in each of them, strengthening their resolve for the daring mission ahead.

After that Kaldor dialed the Stargate, and as it activated, Nick hurled a Tok'Kal shock grenade and a smoke grenade through the event horizon. The grenades served to create a chaotic diversion on the other side.

The first group of four mercenaries surged through the Stargate, Zat'nik'tel weapons at the ready. Emerging on the other side, they were met with three unconsious Jaffa and a lone Jaffa still standing who had taken cover behind the DHD. Reacting quickly to the sound of people exiting the gate, the Jaffa fired a plasma bolt with his staff weapon through the smoke, narrowly missing Mara. The searing heat brushed past her head causing second-degree burns. She went down screaming in agony.

In response, the mercenaries unleashed a volley of shots from their Zat'nik'tels, striking the lone Jaffa and neutralizing the threat. The remaining team members exited the Stargate. Kaldor shouted, "Clear?" After a tense couple of seconds, the reply came, "All clear! We need a healer here!" The group's medic rushed through the smoke to tend to the wounded.

While the medic worked diligently to stabilize the wounded mercenary, the smoke began to dissipate and they could see their immediate surroundings more clearly. They found themselves in a small clearing surrounded by dense forest. It was the perfect location for a stealthy approach to their mission. Nick saw this as an opportunity to check on Mara and approached her. He asked, "Mara, are you in any condition to continue? We're about to move forward. "Mara winced but nodded with determination. "I'm not letting a little plasma burn slow me down. I'm ready, Nick." Nick smiled, impressed by her resilience. "That's the spirit, Mara."

Kaldor turned to Mara and another mercenary. "Mara with your injury I rather have you stay here with Jalen. Guard the gate. If things go south, we'll need a quick exit. When we've successfully captured the Al'kesh, we'll signal you. At that point, Mara, you're in charge of taking out the DHD control crystal. Once that's done, get ready to ring aboard the ship from that spot over there." Mara nodded. "You got it, Kaldor. Just be careful out there." Kaldor gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "We will. We'll rendezvous here when the job is done."

Nick activated a small drone, guiding it into the sky, beyond the detection range of any potential onlookers. After a thorough aerial reconnaissance, he reported, "I've found the Al'kesh. It's landed on the far side of the town. There's a group of approximately a dozen Jaffa guarding the ship."

Additionally, Nick pointed out, "To the right side of the town, there's a dense forest that stretches all around it. We can use that natural cover to circumvent the town and approach the other side, keeping us concealed from the Jaffa's watchful eyes."

As they moved through the forest, the mercenaries exchanged hushed conversations to maintain their stealth. Kaldor, leading the way, spoke in a low tone to Nick, "We've got a good approach so far. With any luck, we'll reach the Al'kesh without alerting the Jaffa."Nick nodded, his voice barely above a whisper, "Let's keep it that way."

Kaldor issued a quick directive, "Let's move swiftly, team. The sun is setting, and I want us on the other side before nightfall." The mercenaries nodded in agreement and picked up the pace, making their way through the forest with a sense of urgency.

As the team stealthily navigated through the dense forest, they moved in silence, the canopy of trees providing cover against the darkening sky. The fading sunlight painted an orange and purple tapestry overhead, while the shadows of the forest concealed their movements. Kaldor led the way, his senses keen to ensure they remained undetected.

The Al'kesh was now clearly in their sights, its massive hull partially hidden by the dense tree line. Kaldor whispered to the team, "Stay close, and keep your eyes sharp. We're almost there.

Nick suggests, "We should assess our opponent's strength and bide our time until nightfall." Nick's plan was met with silent nods of agreement from the team. They found a concealed vantage point in the forest where they could observe the Jaffa guarding the Al'kesh.

As they watched, they took note of the Jaffa's numbers, positions, and routines. The sun gradually dipped below the horizon, casting the area in darkness. This was their moment to strike, and they couldn't afford to waste it. Nick whispered to the team, "We move when the cover of darkness is on our side. Stay low and stay quiet."

A distant horn echoed through the night, and the mercenaries tensed as the Jaffa stationed around the Al'kesh became alert.

The resonating horn not only alerted the nearby Jaffa but also stirred a significant group from a distant barracks. Like an organized swarm, they mobilized, converging on the source of the sound. The mercenaries observed this unfolding scenario, realizing the urgency of their mission heightened with every passing moment. Nick, quick to adapt, communicated with Mara and Jalen through the device. After a tense silence, Mara's voice crackled through. "Four Jaffa spotted us at the gate. We couldn't stop one of them from blowing a horn. Jalen didn't make it, but the Jaffa are down." Nick relayed crucial information "Jaffa are heading your way. Remove the crystal now, stay low, and we'll rendezvous after we secure the Al'kesh." The race against time intensified as the mercenaries prepared for the next phase of their daring plan.

Nick's voice pierced through the chaos, urgency laced in every word. "Mara is about to be overrun. We move in now. On my command. Attack!" The ensuing flurry of Zat'nik'tel bolts found their marks, swiftly eliminating three unsuspecting Jaffa. Closing the distance, Nick unleashed the power of his ribbon device, creating a shockwave that violently dispatched two more adversaries against the Al'kesh.

Amidst the clash, Jaffa turned their attention to Nick. With precision, he activated his shield, deflecting their counteroffensive. In the murky battlefield, the mercenaries, fought to wrest control and claim the Al'kesh.

Nick skillfully employed his shield to deflect incoming attacks, creating a protective barrier for Renna to work. The shimmering energy of the shield absorbed blasts from the remaining Jaffa, allowing Renna, the tech specialist, to focus on swiftly manipulating the Al'kesh's control panel. His strategic use of the shield provided a crucial cover, ensuring Renna could perform her task undisturbed.

Amidst the controlled chaos, a Jaffa attempted to flank Renna from an unprotected angle, ready to fire. However, Nick swiftly responded, aiming his Za'tarc laser weapon with deadly precision. The powerful shot hit the Jaffa square in the head, obliterating it instantly. The headless body crumpled to the ground, wisps of smoke rising from the severed neck, a macabre testament to Nick's precise and lethal marksmanship.

In the midst of the smoke and chaos, Renna successfully hacked the Al'kesh's door, and Kaldor swiftly ordered the deployment of multiple smoke grenades to obscure the Jaffa's vision. Amidst the cover of the smoke, Kaldor yelled, "Let's go!" as the mercenaries sprinted toward the Al'kesh. Staff bolts whizzed past, narrowly missing them. Nick, acting as a shield for the team, entered last, ensuring their safety. Once inside, he urgently commanded, "Close the hatch and get us in the air. We need to move quickly and save Mara!"

Renna at the helm takes off the Al'kesh and raises its shield, moving in the direction of the gate. Nearing the Stargate, they see Jaffa converging, bolts flying toward Mara behind the pedestal. She fires back. Nick radios to Mara, "We got the Al'kesh, we'll use the rings to get you on board, but you need to get to an open space."

Mara responds, "Pinned down, can't move." Kaldor suggested, "We could drop a plasma charge to cover her escape." Nick informs Mara, "Here's the plan. We'll drop a plasma charge between you and the Jaffa. Sprint to a clearing after the explosion. Use the debris as cover and make a run for it."

"Got it, just tell me when," Mara affirmed.

"Wait for my signal. As soon as the charge goes off, run. We'll use the rings to get you on board. Stay sharp," Nick said.

"Understood. I'll be ready to move," Mara assured, her resolve cutting through the chaos of the imminent escape.

Renna skillfully maneuvered the Al'kesh, aligning it with the Stargate. The tension inside the ship heightened as the team prepared for the daring rescue. As the Al'kesh hovered over the target area, Kaldor armed the plasma charge and prepared to deploy it. Nick kept a watchful eye on the situation, ready to initiate their intricate plan.

"Kaldor, on my mark. Mara, get ready to run," Nick commanded, the seconds ticking away. "Fire". The plasma charge ejected from the Al'kesh, hurtling toward the ground. The explosion engulfed the area in a cloud of debris, providing Mara the cover she needed for her escape. Nick swiftly gave the signal.

"Now, Mara, go!" he exclaimed. With agility and determination, Mara sprinted through the dissipating smoke, using the chaos to her advantage. The mercenaries aboard the Al'kesh anxiously monitored her progress, awaiting the crucial moment to initiate the ring transport and bring her safely on board.

As Mara reached the designated clearing, five rings descended from the underside of the Al'kesh, surrounding her. With a soft hum, the rings activated, engulfing Mara in a radiant glow as she was converted into energy. The rings seamlessly returned to the ship's underside. Inside the Al'kesh, five rings rose, initiating the process of reassembling Mara. The glow persisted for a brief moment before dissipating, revealing Mara's presence in the ship.

With Mara safely on board, Renna piloted the Al'kesh away from Neferara and jumped to hyperspace, leaving behind the chaos and the unsuspecting Jaffa.

The team now faced the next phase of their mission — the journey to confront Ramius on the heavily defended world of Seraphis.
