Everyone sat frozen, their bodies unable to move and their voices lost as loud silence filled the room. There were no words they could utter to express their shock as the Glamrocks stared at the ceiling where a tiny arachnid garnered their attention.
Music Man hung upside down from the ventilation shaft, using his legs to balance as his white pupils darted between the human and astonished animatronics. After several more minutes, he spoke. "Hey guys, long time no see." He weakly waved his outstretched hand, unsure of how they would respond. "How's—"
Instantly Music Man was caught off as a giant claw wrapped around his extended appendage; Monty yanked the spider out of the vent and crushed him in a one-handed hug. "DJ?!" Monty cried, disbelief and relief evident in his voice. "Where on Earth have you been?!"
Music Man sat in shock, caught off guard by the sudden movement, before he erupted in laughter. He returned the hug and patted the gator's shoulder. "It's good to see you, my friend," he cheered. "All of you!"
"How are you here?!" Monty demanded as he released the embrace and sat Music Man on his good shoulder. "Your signal went offline after the cave-in; we couldn't get through to find you." He paused, and his voice trailed off. "We thought you were gone."
Music Man chuckled as he perched on the purple shoulder pad. "Cut off, not destroyed," he corrected. "The roof collapse disconnected me from the communication line and deactivated my smaller body, so I could never call for help."
"Then how—"
"Sorry to interrupt." Everyone turned to look at Roxy as she searched around, puzzled. "But where is that voice coming from?"
The alligator huffed in annoyance at being cut off, then he looked closer at the arachnid, and his face changed. "She's right; your speaker is completely busted. How are you talking?"
Iza tilted her head at Monty's words and then looked closely at Music Man's chest, his speaker had a deep puncture hole in the center, and much of the mesh that once covered the circle was missing.
While Iza was lost in thought, she didn't notice Music Man pointing at her. "Iza." The voice shook her from the trance as she looked around, confused. "Show them."
Realizing what he meant, Iza held up her arm, revealing the functional fazwatch. "Heh," she laughed nervously, still reeling from the sudden attention. "He got Dad's fazwatch working."
Everyone's eyes bulged.
"HOW?!" Sun gawked, dumbfounded at the working electronic device. "THE SERVERS HAVE BEEN OFFLINE FOR YEARS; THE ONLY WORKING THING SHOULD BE OUR COMMS!"
Attention returned to Music Man as he shrugged. "Seems Gregory kept that thing in good condition; it works surprisingly well." He paused, looking past his friends towards the back of the room. "But that's not important right now. What is important is getting you all fixed, especially those three."
They followed Music Man's gaze and saw the damaged forms of Freddy, Chica, and Inox.
Monty walked back towards the control panel at the mention of his friends with Music Man still on his shoulder. "You're right," he said as he looked over the dashboard. "I already restocked the machine's inventory with the parts Roxy retrieved from the storage area."
Iza's eyes widened at those words, the memory with the endos returning to her mind. Instantly guilt filled her, and she was about to turn to Roxy when she stopped herself. Iza quickly pushed the regret to the back of her head, not wanting to spoil the mood, and continued listening to Monty. "So we're ready to proceed with repairs."
Monty looked back at the deactivated Glamrocks. "Let's start with Freddy since he acquired the most damage. Sun, can you help me move him?" Monty asked as he placed Music Man on the nearby desk.
"YES!" the energetic caretaker responded, eager to fix his friends and himself. Sun hurried to Freddy's side, and together with Monty, they slung his large arms over their shoulders and carefully moved him inside the glass cylinder.
Iza watched them move the anthropomorphic bear. After they left, her eyes continued to Chica and landed on Inox. A thought popped into her head. "What are we going to do about Inox?" Iza questioned, scratching her head at the idea. "He doesn't have spare parts like you guys."
"That's tricky to answer," Monty's voice called from inside the cylinder, echoing off the rounded walls.
"What do you mean?" Iza replied, anxiety starting to rise. "Is there a way to fix him or not?"
An audible sigh reverberated off the glass interior as Monty and Sun exited the enclosure. He turned left, walked into a dark area behind the machine Iza hadn't noticed before, and began rummaging through something.
"While you were gone," he said while working. "I inspected Inox's body to see if any of our extra equipment was compatible with his hardware, and unfortunately, everything was either the wrong model or too large for him."
A pit sat in Iza's stomach, and she felt her heart drop as worse case scenarios dominated her thinking. "So he can't be fixed?" Her voice grew panicked, and the scratching intensified. "There has to be a way to fix him. I can't leave him like this. I can't lose him too!"
Iza's nails broke through her skin, drawing specks of blood. Her breathing intensified, and Iza's heart felt tight.
Seeing the rising panic attack, Sun rushed to Iza's side and kneeled, making eye contact. "Iza, it's okay to feel nervous. Inox is going to make it; we all are." His words were slow and direct. "Everything will work out. Do you need anything now?"
Sun's words seemed to have the desired effect. After a few minutes, Iza unclenched her hand and took deep breaths. Then, she recomposed herself and faced Sun. "No, I'm fine, thank you. Then how do we fix Inox?"
"With this!" Monty hollered, scaring Iza, and Sun calmed her again. "Sorry," he chuckled, embarrassed.
"It's fine." Iza waved her hand. "Keep going."
Monty nodded and walked back into the light with something in hand. It was rather tricky as he attempted to transport the object with only one arm. Finally, after some time, he positioned it for all to see.
Confusion replaced panic as Iza looked between the object and Monty. The item was another animatronic, although it was much smaller than the gator and the others, around five feet tall. Its slender body was silver with thin neon green lines etched across its limbs and face, which resembled a cartoonish-looking human.
The girl stared, baffled. "What is that? And where did you find it?"
Roxy walked over to Monty and helped him lay the animatronic next to Chica. "In Gregory's office." Monty smiled proudly, but it quickly vanished when he saw the infuriated look on Roxy's face. "What?" he asked.
"What? What do you mean, what?!" she growled. "You went inside Gregory's office? You know we aren't supposed to go in there, we're not, you, you…" Roxy's angry features twisted into confusion. "How did you even get in there?"
Iza's voice joined the conversation. "Wait, Dad has an office down here?" she asked curiously but also trying to prevent a fight. "Where is it?"
Sun released the comforting hand he had rested on Iza's left shoulder and pointed towards an elevated platform behind the glass cylinder. The walkway led to five doors, four of which had designs that resembled the Glamrocks' silhouettes and the fifth slightly tucked further back.
"Roxy's right," Music Man stated, still on the desk. "How did you get in there? Our programming prevents us from entering the mechanics' offices."
Monty shrugged as he returned to the control panel. "One of the perks of the servers being down, I guess. No limitations on where you can go."
Roxy rolled her eyes. "Anyway, what is that?" She pointed toward the new robot.
"I'm not sure," he replied. "But it seems it might have been a project Gregory was working on before he left. It looks operational, and we don't have the means to repair Inox's body, so I figured we could stick his chip in here."
The human moved closer to the new animatronic and inspected it, taking in every detail. Iza glanced between it and Inox, realizing it resembled her android friend, just taller and with a movable mouth.
"You know," she started, gaining everyone's attention. "Dad was always tinkering and upgrading his creations, so it might have been something he was working on, I don't know." She paused, then sighed. "Let's do it."
Sun looked at her, astonished. "Wait, you're on board with this?"
"Not like we have a choice," Iza sighed and stood up. "We can't leave Inox's chip in his body, and it's too risky to just carry it around."
Sun hummed in agreement.
"Besides, there's something familiar about this android." She looked back towards Monty. "Did you find anything else?"
"Just this paper." A whirring sound filled the air as Monty's chest opened like a hatch, surprising Iza. Monty chuckled at her bewildered face and reached inside. He pulled out a small slip of paper before closing the compartment. "This paper was next to the robot when I found it."
Recovering from that strange bombshell of information, Iza thanked Monty and took the sheet. As she scanned the words, her eyes widened. "This is Dad's handwriting."
"What does it say?"
Iza read aloud. 1N0-Y
"One-N-zero-Y?" Music Man repeated. "What does that mean?"
Iza reread the page several times, her jaw dropping further with each reread. "I know what this is!" Her voice grew excited. "It's an upgrade for Inox; Dad was making him an upgrade!" Iza snapped her head towards Sundrop. "Sun, where did you put Inox's chip?"
Baffled by her reaction, Sun walked over to an undisturbed area of the room and came back with Freddy, Chica, and Inox's customization chips in hand. He gave her Inox's chip before facing the unmoving android.
Carefully, Iza tilted the android forward and inspected the nape of its neck; her eyes brightened when she saw the discolored panel. Then, eagerly, Iza pressed the panel and was about to insert the chip when Roxy grabbed her arm. "Hold up, girl. Are you going to explain what you are doing?"
Iza stared at Roxy, then looked around at the dumbfounded Glamrocks. Realizing she left them in the dark, Iza broke down laughing. "Sorry guys, I got excited." A genuine smile crossed her lips. "This bot is an upgrade for Inox."
"How do you know?" Monty asked.
Iza held up the paper. "One-N-zero-Y," she read aloud. "That would have been the name of the android body if Dad decided to give Inox an upgrade."
"That still doesn't make any sense," Music Man rebuffed.
"Inox's real name is One-N-zero-X, but as a kid, I thought the written version looked like Inox, so the name stuck."
Roxy scratched her chin. "But how would this be an upgrade?"
Iza looked back at the animatronics. "When Dad made new robots, he always gave it a three-character ID and a letter A through Z, depending on which model he was currently working on."
She gestured towards her friend. "Inox's current body is model X, and this robot here is model Y, meaning Dad must have been planning on upgrading Inox before he left."
Monty stepped forward. "That's great, Iza," he said, walking over to her. "But before we do anything, let's have the machine check over the hardware for viruses, just in case it picked any up."
Iza looked back at the robot, then Monty; she breathed out. "Good idea." She rubbed her head sheepishly. "Got ahead of myself."
Monty burst out in laughter. "Don't sweat it, kid," he gently slapped her back. "Happens to the best of us."
"How long will the scan take?" Iza asked, returning to the topic at hand.
Monty looked around in thought. "With how old this equipment is, I'd say at least an hour."
Iza's face pouted. Roxy saw this and walked over. "Hey, we can get started on repairs in the meantime."
All the animatronics' faces brightened at the thought of being fixed. "Yes!" Monty cheered. "Let's get started!" With the help of Roxy, they picked up Inox's new body and hooked it up to a nearby machine before returning.
"So," Iza said, rubbing her hands together. "You mentioned I was the one who needed to do this?"
"Yes," Monty replied, motioning for her to join him at the control panel. "Let me show you how it works."
When she arrived, Iza looked down at the panel. It was pretty straightforward, with only eight different buttons with four sets of colors and two joysticks. "Is this the equipment only a human can use?" she deadpanned.
"Yes."
"It looks like a minigame a child could master," Iza stated bluntly. "Why is the machine that repairs such advanced animatronics simple enough that a ten-year-old could understand?"
Everyone shrugged. "Sure helped your dad out when he used it as a kid," Music Man stated.
"What?" Iza questioned. The other animatronics shot him a dirty look.
"Nevermind," he backtracked. "Just know it's easy, but only a human can use it."
"You know what," Iza said, massaging her temple. "Not going to question it. Just show me how it works."
"Right." Monty moved beside her. "Listen carefully, Iza. Once I press this button, we cannot stop. The buttons will form a pattern, and you need to repeat the pattern exactly. I've already programmed the computer on how to fix Freddy; you just need to press the buttons and move the joystick when needed."
"A game of memory, huh?" Iza said. "I can do this."
"You ready?"
The human shook her hands and slapped her face to pump herself up. "Making this more dramatic than it is, but let's go!"
Monty counted from three and then pressed the button. The colors began flashing to life; Iza was taken aback by how fast they were going, she repeated the sequence, and the claw inside the now-closed chamber began to move around Freddy.
With each button she pressed correctly, the robotic hands continued to work. Iza saw them remove Freddy's damaged casing, exposing the endoskeleton beneath. Sparks flew as his wires were melded back together, and his puncture wounds filled in.
His old casing disappeared into the ceiling before being replaced by the new bright-colored ones. Each time Iza pressed a button, Freddy grew closer to complete repair.
After about a half-hour, Iza pressed the final button, and a ding rang throughout the room. A tense silence followed as the door of the protective barrier slid open; all at once, everyone rushed in.
Iza pushed her way through the crowd until she was directly next to the table. Her mouth dropped as she stared at the results in front of her. Cheering erupted from Monty. "Rock on, kid!" he pumped his fist. "You did it!"
"I did," Iza whispered as sweat dripped from her brow. "That was very intense," she stated as she leaned against the table. "Is Freddy going to be alright?"
"Better than alright!" Roxy laughed as the Glamrocks looked at their deactivated friend. "When he wakes up, he'll feel great!"
A small relieved sigh escaped Iza's lips as her brown eyes ran over Freddy's now repaired form; she was amazed at how well the machine fixed him.
Any evidence of the beating was gone as his endoskeleton was repaired and hidden entirely under a new casing that starkly contrasted the faded paint of his former plastic layer.
His missing ear had been returned and was now accompanied by a bright red earring. Apart from his missing tophat, Freddy almost looked brand new.
The other Glamrocks were awed at their friend's new look, excited for their incoming repair and makeover. "Let's move Freddy and get Chica on the table next," Monty said as he and Sun carefully removed their large friend from the room and returned with Chica in hand.
And so it went, the process repeated with Iza matching the colors and the Glamrocks' broken parts replaced. After Freddy went Chica, Sun, and Roxy, each time, their chips were removed and replaced when finished.
After Roxy had finished, Inox's scan was complete, and the new body was virus-free. Iza placed the new chip into the body and then went to finish Monty.
Monty was the final one, and Music Man assisted Iza this time.
Ding
The final one of the night, Iza let out a large sigh, her body was drenched in sweat and her tattered clothes soaked as she walked into the chamber and replaced his chip. She stepped back and then threw her arms up victoriously. "I'm done!"
Clapping came from Music Man, who laughed at her reaction. "Way to go, Iza!"
"That took a long time," Iza rested her hands on her hips and looked up. "How long was it?"
"Four hours," Music Man replied.
"Jeez," Iza said, then let out a giant yawn. "We lost track of time."
"Are you tired?"
"Yeah." Leaving Monty on the table, she walked towards the desk where Music Man sat. Boredly, she saw the drawer of the desk. "What's in here?" Iza began rummaging through the drawer until her hand landed on a small plastic baggy.
She pulled it out and analyzed the contents. "Are these customization chips?"
"Let me see," Music Man said, walking across the desktop and looking at the object. "Seems so, although these are blank ones, likely backups or used for new animatronics."
"Cool," Iza replied before shoving it into her pants pocket.
"You're keeping them?"
The human shrugged. "Why not? It could be useful."
"You're weird," he laughed.
Iza sighed, then looked to her left and saw a rolling chair, feeling a wave of fatigue wash over her body. Iza grabbed the seat and sat down; a long breath escaped her before looking over at Music Man. She studied his dirtied and damaged frame. "Are you sure you don't need a tune-up?"
The spider gave a hmm.
"You sure? I've got the hand of the equipment, and I could fix you by myself."
Music Man shook his head and walked closer to Iza. "I am fine. Besides, it's not possible to fix a toy using this machine anyways."
"Ah," Iza said before sighing and stretching her arms. Her stretching felt good on her sore arms, and it lasted several minutes. When Iza finally brought her arms back down, she noticed and held up the fazwatch. "Music Man?"
"Iza?" Music Man joked, earning an eye roll from the human. "What's up?"
"What can you tell me about this fazwatch?" The glowing screen illuminated her battered face. "Do you know how to use it?"
Silence came from the fazwatch as Iza pressed an icon. Then, instantly beeping not from Music Man burst from the tiny watch, dozens of pop-ups continually appeared.
"What the?" Iza commented as she watched the windows begin to slow down. When the last pop-up finally appeared, she saw its writing. "What are these?"
"What are what?" Music Man reiterated as he lazily scraped off some dirt from his chest speaker.
"These pop-ups on the screen all have weird messages on them."
"Read one."
Iza looked back and scrolled down for a second before settling on one and uttering the first line.

The new firewall has proven successful in keeping up security; if the final trial is passed, the program will be installed first thing next week.
Iza's face contorted into a confused expression. "Firewall." She turned to Music Man. "Was there a virus problem here?"
"No," Music Man replied. "Sounds like those are work logs, Gregory was obsessed with security updates, so I guess those are just what he wrote after work."
The human perked up and looked back at the screen. "Dad kept meticulous notes," Iza said as she quickly scrolled through the other logs.
"I've heard he also used it to destress."
"Like a diary?"
"You could say that."
Iza hummed, then looked back at the entry she read and narrowed her eyes. 2058. "That was after he was diagnosed," she mumbled.
"What?"
Iza shook her head and smiled at Music Man. "Nothing." She continued scrolling through the logs until she reached the second most recent one.

The head mechanic position is being transferred to the engineering manager; her role begins Monday. The final security update has been implemented and has proven to keep the subject at bay.
Iza stared in shock but kept reading the final log.
Log Date: October 30, 2059
Final log date: Today is the last day here as a mechanic. All security protocols have been activated and now have an efficient, self-preserving AI meant to keep the subject at bay. The subject knows the head mechanic is leaving but cannot do anything to stop him.
The new head mechanic does not know the subject exists but is aware of the security AI and is instructed not to mess with its programming. The AI will continue to work even if the power goes out and interfere with any external communication after hours or when the power is off.
The former mechanic will not attend the pizzaplex again due to personal issues but will be available on speed dial should critical problems arise.
The human and spider stared silently at the words in front of them. "What even?" Music Man gawked. "Self-preserving AI? The subject? What?"
Iza didn't respond; she just stared forward. Music Man noticed her change in mood, and his robotic voice grew concerned. "Iza, are you alright?"
No response.
"Iza?" He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay?"
"2059," Iza muttered. Her words were empty and emotionless, Iza's eyes devoid of anything as she stared off into space. A single tear rolled down her cheek. "That was the year it began."
"Iza," Music Man called, slightly slapping her injured shoulder. The impact jarred and returned her to reality; Iza gazed around frantically, then locked eyes with the arachnid. "Are you okay?"
"Huh? Yeah, yeah, I, I think I just need some, uh, some sleep," Iza stuttered. She avoided eye contact as she laid her head down on the table; Music Man moved away and gave her more room. "I just need some sleep."
Her lids felt heavy, closing as a tidal wave of exhaustion overtook her, sending Iza into a deep and dreamless sleep.
Music Man looked at the human girl and shook his head. "Enjoy your sleep, Fasben."

Freddy awoke with a start; his optics flickered around frantically. Panic shot through his endoskeleton as he saw the deactivated forms of his friends sitting next to him. The bear looked around further, and his nerves calmed. "Parts and services?" he mumbled. "How'd we get here?"
Slowly he stood up and froze. Freddy glanced down at his right ankle and moved it; no noise sounded. His eyes widened. "What?" Freddy flexed his left knee, the same result. "How did?"
Freddy.
The bear froze and looked around for the voice in his head.
Over here.
Freddy looked up and saw the tiny Music Man waving him over; a relieved smile crossed his robotic features at the familiar face. He walked over to Music Man. "DJ! It's great—"
He was suddenly cut off by Music Man shushing him through their comm system before pointing down. Freddy followed his finger and saw Iza, fast asleep in the chair with her head and arms on the desk.
Use your com.
Freddy nodded. Better?
Yes
Care to explain what happened?
Personally, I can't; I only rejoined the gang today. But from what I saw today, you were all badly beaten up.
Freddy looked around the room. That would explain why we're here. Did you fix us? Wait, how are you here? I saw your signal go offline; I thought you were—
Freddy shook his head after realizing Music Man was still alive.
Gone? I'll explain later. Music Man then shook his head. And it wasn't me. He then gestured toward Iza.
Freddy's eyes widened as the realization dawned on him. I'm glad you're alright, but Iza did this? She fixed us?
Music Man chuckled. The girl has done more than that; she's a fighter. Surviving the endos and taking on the STAFF bots. She saved my life, actually.
The Glamrock's blue eyes bulged. Endos? Why was she around those abominations?
Only a human can access the area with the needed parts. While I don't know what happened before I met her, I freed her from an endo's grip, and she fought harder than I've ever seen. Iza also endangered her own life to save me from a corrupted STAFF bot.
Before Freddy could respond, a quiet sound escaped Iza as she readjusted herself and slightly woke up. Tired eyes gazed upward through her crooked glasses at the massive animatronic. "Freddy?" she mumbled, looking up at the orange Glamrock.
"Hey, Iza," he smiled. "Go back to sleep. You deserve it."
"Was planning on it," Iza yawned as the world began to fade, and she returned to her deep slumber.
