DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER.
The year was 1966 and a blonde haired first year was making her way out of the charms classroom after a session with Professor Filius Flitwick.
She had had a good time. She had been able to answer all of the questions, thanks to her mother's tutoring so that she as well as her sisters would do well in Hogwarts, as daughters of the most Ancient and Noble house of Black.
Since the lunch break had just started, the girl, Narcissa Black, wanted to get some air, so she went to the courtyard.
Just as she was about to step out of from under the roof and into the open, she heard footsteps and a loud voice calling out, "Hey You!"
She turned around and saw a big boy, brown haired, in her first year, a Gryffindor. She sighed in despair. For this boy was a bully named Saunders.
Saunders walked up to her and sneered, "Think you're so smart? I say, you're dumb! How could you possibly answer all those questions? And now you want to be the teachers' pet? Oh, what a wimp. Wingardium 'Levi,' 'osa'! What a jerk!"
Narcissa spoke defiantly, "Be careful of what you say. You're just jealous because you didn't get it right."
Saunders jeered, "Well you girl are so dumb that…"
"HEY YOU!" there was suddenly a shout.
Both turned to see a boy with black hair that was long, extending till his shoulders.
(NOTE: Visualize Anakin Skywalker's hairstyle or Ben Solo's hairstyle.)
He was wearing glasses and had a prefect badge pinned to his robes plus a Gryffindor badge.
He came up and yelled, "SAUNDERS! HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT A WOMAN! THAT'S IT! I'M TAKING FIVE POINTS FROM GRYFFINDOR! SHAME ON YOU!"
Saunders made a face and spluttered, "B… but, you can't do that!"
The prefect replied, "Oh yes I can! And if Ginger, Bellatrix, Andromeda, Molly, Arthur or anyone else comes to me with reports of your bullying, I'll make sure to report you to Professor Dumbledore or Professor Dippet! Now get going!"
Saunders turned on his heel and sped away as fast as he could in fright.
The prefect turned to Narcissa and said, "I'm really sorry about this. Saunders is causing huge problems for everyone. He thinks he's a king and he can do anything he wants."
Narcissa replied, "Thank you. He's been causing me a lot of trouble."
The prefect said, "Well I hope he stops. Anyway, what's your name?"
Narcissa replied, "My name is Narcissa Black. What's yours?"
The prefect held out his hand and said, "My name is Abhimanyu Pandey."
Narcissa shook it and spoke, "Abhimanyu Pandey, I've heard about you. My sisters Bellatrix and Andromeda say that you're a good student, and a Muggleborn."
Abhimanyu replied, "Yes, I am Muggleborn. I hope you won't hold that against me."
Narcissa replied, "Bellatrix says you constantly run after her for tips, and you don't seem to be scared of her or anything."
Abhimanyu smilingly replied, "Should I be? Is she planning to devour me or something like that?"
Narcissa giggled and spoke, "She might one day. She says you're very polite, and cheerful. Are you actually friends with them?"
Abhimanyu sighed and replied, "Well, I consider them as my friends, but to be honest, Andromeda's actually nicer. I like Bellatrix too, but overall, I would say our friendship is a bit odd, in the sense, how we interact with each other."
Narcissa replied, "I see. Well, I'd better go now. My sisters will be waiting for me."
Abhimanyu replied, "Yeah yeah, okay. You'd better run along. Have a nice day Narcissa."
Narcissa said, "You too," as she ran along.
Abhimanyu looked at her and smiled.
Between him and Bellatrix, there was a rather odd friendship. Bellatrix didn't hang out much with him, except to tease him, but for some reason, her teasing didn't seem to affect him like Rudolphus'. He actually found it amusing. So far, Bellatrix hadn't made statements such as "You're pathetic, weak," like Rudolphus had so far. She herself had told him that she couldn't understand what it was with him.
Actually, he found himself liking her.
But it was a secret.
However, the friendship between Abhimanyu and the Black sisters remained odd, and there were times when Bellatrix and Narcissa were rude to Abhimanyu.
Andromeda sneered as well, but not as much as her sisters. With Abhimanyu, she was courteous. Bellatrix and Narcissa were courteous at certain times, but not as much as Andromeda. And, Abhimanyu would often have to beg Bellatrix for tips. Still, he seemed to think that friendship with them was possible. He never gave up trying to be their friend.
However, between him and Rudolphus, it was hopeless. They were warm enemies as far as they were concerned.
Yet, Abhimanyu had his friends Molly, Arthur and Ginger, who was his best mate. They studied and played quidditch together. With Ginger as a beater on the Gryffindor team, and Abhimanyu as the seeker, matches were fun, and tight at times.
Plus, they had their OWLs, and Abhimanyu couldn't let feelings come in the way of his studies.
With help from Molly, Ginger and Arthur, as well as from McGonagall, Dumbledore, and Slughorn, he was able to study well for his exams. And finally, his OWLs went well.
Later on, when he got his results, he was happy to have received mostly E's and an Outstanding in Defence against the Dark Arts, or which his parents took him and Ginger who was staying with him, out to a special Indian restaurant for a treat.
Plus, he was made the quidditch captain in his sixth year.
May 3rd, 1968
Narcissa, now in her second year was stepping out into the courtyard where there were some students gathered. She was currently talking to a blond haired youth in his third year named Lucius Malfoy.
Narcissa was saying, "Do you think this dark wizard really exists? I thought it was just some silly gossip going around the school."
Lucius replied, "I know it does. Rudolphus Lestrange is the one to talk to."
They proceeded forward towards a group excitedly chattering at the sight before them.
Bellatrix and Andromeda had cast spells at each other and their spells had formed a purple chain as they blocked each other, producing an electric crackling sound. They had excited looks on their faces.
As Narcissa and Lucius neared them, Bellatrix looked at her and suggested, "Cissy, you should put your wand in too, see what happens."
Narcissa waited for a few moments and then put her wand in. The three sisters then moved their wands up and a blast of energy was produced which rocketed upwards and remained for some time before fading away as light.
The three sisters beheld the sight in awe, and then smiled at each other with joy.
And then, they heard Rudolphus nearby shouting, "You watching Mudbloods?! This just proves that purebloods really are the most powerful!"
This started a commotion even as Andromeda shouted, "Shut up Lestrange!"
The sisters then moved closer to each other and Andromeda said, "I wonder what this really means. I mean, I've heard about two wand cores, but…"
Bellatrix exclaimed happily, "It means together, we can do incredible things!"
Narcissa smiled and said, "It means we have a bond like no other. We can't break it."
Just then, they heard someone call out, "Excuse me, Bellatrix, Andromeda, Narcissa, quite impressive, but just one thing, could you do it again? Just with me this time?"
They turned to see Abhimanyu standing nearby, his wand at the ready.
Bellatrix smirked at him and replied, "Oh, alright. Prepare to duel, Muggleborn."
Abhimanyu smiled and held his wand at the ready.
He and Bellatrix then moved closer to each other, held their wands in acknowledgement and respect to each other as per dueling championship rules, and then moved away from each other so as to have some distance between them.
Andromeda called out, "So, prepare; One, two, three!"
Bellatrix called out, "Furnunculus!"
Abhimanyu called out, "Expelliarmus!"
Two spells rushed out of their wands, and met each other.
But something happened.
They blocked each other, creating a red link and producing an electric crackling sound.
They held each other at bay, neither one of them budging.
And then, Andromeda and Narcissa noticed Abhimanyu motioning to them with his head to come forward.
They moved towards the centre, pulled out their wands, and put them in. Immediately, they all lifted their wands and an even more powerful blast of energy was rocketed skywards, lasting for a longer time before fading away.
Everyone stared at the sight in awe.
A few moments later, Bellatrix looked at Abhimanyu with amazement. She hadn't expected something like this to happen between them.
He seemed to be quite strong, and not weak.
And then suddenly, they all heard Rudolphus shouting, "THIS DOESN'T PROVE ANYTHING MUDBLOOD! YOU COUNDN'T HAVE DONE THAT BY YOURSELF! PUREBLOODS REALLY ARE THE MOST POWERFUL!"
Abhimanyu looked at him and called out, "Hey Ro! You know what? You don't count as a proper pureblood. You know why? Because you're so vile and arrogant, so actually, you are a vile-blood! So quit bragging about yourself, vile-blood!"
Most of the spectators gathered looked at Abhimanyu weirdly because of his lame statement. However, a few moments later, Andromeda couldn't help chuckling.
Bellatrix whispered, "Andi, what's so funny?"
Andromeda whispered in reply, "You know, Rudolphus is quite arrogant, and his bragging is too much."
Just then, Rudolphus who was seething with rage yelled, "HOW DARE YOU! I CHALLENGE YOU TO A FIGHT! FIGHT ME IF YOU THINK YOU'RE NOT WEAK!"
Abhimanyu smilingly replied, "Alright, but why don't we just have a wrestling match instead of using wands?"
Rudolphus sneered, "Why should I resort to that Muggle technique? Too scared, Mudblood?"
Abhimanyu sang out, "You just said that purebloods are the most powerful. What happened to all your muscular strength? Too scared Row row row your boat Lestrange a.k.a Ro L E Strange?
"DON'T CALL ME THAT, PANDEY!" Rudolphus yelled.
He quickly took off his robe and handed it plus his wand to a boy a little shorter than him with black hair nearby ordering, "Hold this Rabastan while I teach that lowly Mudblood a lesson! I'll teach him to insult me like that!"
Abhimanyu took off his robe and handed it plus his wand to Bellatrix saying, "Bellatrix, could you please watch my robes and wand for me? I'd really appreciate it."
Bellatrix took them and Abhimanyu said, "Thank you, thank you."
In their formal shirts and black trousers, the wrestlers then faced each other.
Rudolphus sneered, "I'll make you regret this Mudblood!"
Abhimanyu sang out, "Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream. If you see Rudolphus, don't forget to scream, 'Vile-blood'!"
"YOU," Rudolphus screamed, "DON'T CALL ME THAT, PANDEY!"
And then, they rushed forward and began to grapple with each other.
Some students including Ginger and Arthur who were present began to cheer for Abhimanyu, and others such as Avril Leverge started cheering for Rudolphus.
As for the Black sisters, they just watched.
Narcissa spoke, "Does that Muggleborn have any chance of winning?"
Andromeda replied, "Anything could happen. But I hope Rudolphus loses. Hopefully, that will teach him to stop bragging!"
Bellatrix looked at her and said, "Let's see what happens with Pandey and Lestrange."
Meanwhile, Abhimanyu and Rudolphus were grappling each other back and forth. On and off, one found himself losing ground but managed to push back.
Eventually, Rudolphus found himself losing ground. He tried to push back again, but this time, he was overpowered and fell on the ground on his back.
He looked up in shock and found his enemy on top of him, pinning him down.
Abhimanyu who had finally managed to bring Rudolphus down was now on top of him, pinning him down to the ground.
As Rudolphus struggled to free himself, Ginger who was standing nearby called out, "1, 2, 3, and you're out! Abhimanyu has won!"
Abhimanyu stood up and Rudolphus collapsed, having been defeated.
He then looked up at Abhimanyu and snarled, "You, a Muggleborn beat me?! Impossible!"
Abhimanyu looked sternly at him and said, "What did you say about us Muggleborns? For years, you have been bragging about yourself and putting others down, especially Muggleborns. I hope you learnt your lesson. Don't do this ever again, Rudolphus. Muggleborns are not bad. Please, don't spread such hatred between us. Let's not fight anymore."
With that, he held out his hand.
Rudolphus glared at Abhimanyu for a few moments, then grabbed the hand, pulled himself up, and suddenly punched him in his face.
Abhimanyu fell down in pain. Rudolphus was about to punch him again but suddenly, he found himself being restrained and saw Andromeda and Bellatrix in front of him yelling, "Enough! Stop it!"
Ginger who was holding Rudolphus cried out, "Don't you dare hit my friend like that!"
Rudolphus cried out, "I'll teach him as I like!"
Andromeda retorted, "You challenged him and you lost to him. Now quit your proclamations and stop being such a braggart!"
The boy who had been holding Rudolphus' stuff, Rabastan Lestrange, came up to him and said, "Let's go away from him big brother. We'll get him some other time."
Rudolphus took his robe from Rudolphus, put it on, and taking his wand, he glowered at Abhimanyu who had gotten up and said, "You will regret crossing me! When the time comes, I'll make sure you pay dearly!"
With that, he strode off, accompanied by Rabastan.
Ginger, who had released Rudolphus a few moments before, turned to Abhimanyu who was standing up with some help from Narcissa and said, "Are you alright?"
Abhimanyu replied, "I'm okay Ginger. Lucky he didn't injure me too badly. My nose isn't broken. Lucky he only got my forehead."
Bellatrix approached him and said, "Abhimanyu, what is your wand made of?"
Abhimanyu replied, "Walnut and dragon heartstring, 12¾ inches long."
Bellatrix looked at him in wonder and spoke, "We have the same kind of wands! What happened between us works only with wands of the same core! No wonder!"
Narcissa asked, "With four wand cores, I wonder what will happen."
Abhimanyu said, "We could do great things together."
Bellatrix looked at him rather disdainfully and said, "Together? I don't think so. I can't imagine that. Anyway, you'd better take your robes and wand back. Just take them and go."
Abhimanyu took his things from her and putting on his robe, he said, "Thanks for watching them for me. I hope things will work out between us. Sorry if I'm bothering you. I'll go. Goodbye."
With that, he walked off, slightly hurt.
Bellatrix looked at him disdainfully as he walked off. Sure, he was good, but he was a Muggleborn, and the Black family was against Muggleborns.
As far as she was concerned, he wasn't a friend. She did not consider him as one, although he considered her to be one. Why couldn't he just stop trying to hang out with them? What would mother and father think?
Sure, she did share tips with him when he begged her for them, but he did not fit in. He was not a pureblood. And not one of the elite purebloods for that matter, like the Malfoys or the Lestranges.
