I am sorry for the long wait but I got super busy and had to delay this update.
As you can see, I am skipping some more time to develop the plot :)
I know that Grace Park is actually Korean, but to match 19th century demographics better, I changed Sharon to be from Hong Kong.

One leaving and One coming back

Laura Roslin

In the end it was neither Bill nor Kara who told her, but Isabelle - Samuel Anders had left London. He had to do business connected to the cotton industry somewhere in the North as far as Laura had been able to find out. She had done nothing else in regard to him and Kara so far, letting it play out, but still keeping an eye on the two of them. No scandalous engagement had been announced, so the lady was fairly certain it would all work out well in the end. Anders would go and lose interest and Kara would soon move on with her life.

"You are like a mother hen," Isabelle had joked, "even though you pretend not to regret not having children, you always look out for them. My offspring and now the Adama girl. You should marry the Commander and be done with it."

Laura had only frowned at the assessment. Of course she was using her influence to look out for her friends' children! And what good would it be to marry Bill? Besides, the Adama family weren't the only ones getting themelves into trouble: Karl Agathon had thought it to be a good idea to fall in love with a girl that came from nothing. Isabelle was getting more and more concerned as the weeks went by, but for some reason did not give her any real information on the young woman, which was strange. All Laura had been able to find out was that she seemed to be quite pretty and poor and he seemed to be quite smitten. What was th real issue here? Laura started to suspect that there might either be the factor religion or ethnicity be involved as well. Well, maybe one could still do something about it.

"Laura, you have to give a dinner or a little party soon," her best friend reprimanded her further, "or at least attend some more functions. People are starting to wonder why you are becoming so unsocial, whether you have been sick, or become wrinkly or, gods forbid, pregnant."

"Thanky you my dearest, but as you can see, I am neither," Laura replied.

"But they are not wrong, you have been absent. Before, you were the centre of the Town's social life. Now, you are so...private."

"Well, I have been a bit busy lately. And I am socializing. But there were accounts for Caprica Manor to do, some small business ventures down in Cornwall and ..."

"Nonsense Laura. Most of the time you are either meeting with my family or the Adamas. You are not the social butterfly you were before. That tells me there is a man, but someone that requires more than your usual amount of attention. That either means he is stubborn, or the decision you want to influence is important or you genuinely enjoy him."

Laura shrugged. "Well, I do enjoy him. but I don't want to influenec him."

Isabelle nodded. "So Commander Adama. Who would have thought."

"Am I that easy to read?" her friend asked.

"You are for me. But I doubt the public will figure it out anytime soon - if you mix and meddle a bit more. Attend parties, give a dinner, show off. You know how it works."

Unfortunately, Isabelle was right. For that reason Laura found herself giving an informal dinner for the extended Six-family two weeks later. Both the parents and the four daughters Natalie, Sonja, Gina and Caprice did come, two of them with their husbands. Natalie's husband Mr Faust turned out to be a welcome addition to the party, Mr Inviere, Gina's husband, not so much. While Sonja was clever and stayed out of trouble, Caprice and Gina both kept swooning over Gaius Baltar, which often seemed to cause problems in the family. After the second course, Laura had just started to entertain the idea of Sonja being a suitable match for Karl Agathon, when the young woman spoke up.

"Have you heard about Leopold Adama lately? Is he still at Brighton?"

Natalie shot Laura a knowing look, having told her before about her sister's infatuation with the young military man.

"I believe he will be back from Brighton soon. There has been a rotation among the officers and he will be stationed close to Town with his new regiment, at least I have been told so," the older woman answered truthfully.

"Do you think we will see more of him on parties then, Ms Roslin?" Sonja went on.

"Well, I wouldn't know, I believe it depends a lot on the progress of the struggle with the French. Everything I could tell you about it would be only guessing."

The woman seemed to be a bit disappointed, but nodded nevertheless. Laura knew in fact quite little about the returning regiment and Lee's position, Bill was oddly tight-lipped about it and she had nod pressed further. Laura was certain he would tell her in time. She would probably have no luck getting information from Kara, the girl usually looked quite unimpressed when they met. However the woman could not imagine what she had done wrong, her relationship with Bill was consensual and not Kara's business.

There wasn't much interesting news her visitors knew to tell, still Laura enjoyed the company. The evening passed in a blurr and when they finally excused themselves to head home, the woman found she was actually a bit disappointed. Maybe she really should go out more.

Thank you for reading!
I know this was a bit of a filler, the next one will be very much action-driven and longer.
Stay safe!
