Chapter 5: Mad-Eye Moody

I groaned when I was rudely woken by Miguel who yanked the curtains open. The sun shone right in my eyes. I turned over, putting the pillow over my face to block out the sun. "What the hell, man?" I whined.

Miguel stood over me, scowling. "Get up." He said gruffly.

"Leave me alone," I grumbled, my voice muffled under the pillows.

"No. You have school today. And watch your fucking mouth." Miguel warned me, his voice dangerously low. Miguel gave me a shock, causing me to cry in pain.

I could feel my anger rising because he continued to talk down to me. "Why do you always have to be such an ass?" I shot back.

Miguel glared at me with his fists clenched in anger. "I'm not going to put up with your attitude this morning. You have five minutes to get up and get ready for school before I really lose my temper."

Miguel left my room, slamming the door behind him. My heart was pounding fast as I was getting ready for school. Thankfully with special accommodations, I don't have to wear the school uniform so as long as I wear the colors of the house I was in and the black robe. I wanted to wear one of my t-shirts today but Miguel had picked out an outfit for me. The outfit that he chose for me was a semi-dark red sleeveless high-low cut with a pretty clip-together dark brown belt for the waist.

For the accessories that the headmaster gave me for my Gryffindor colors, I have red and yellow fuzzy cuffs that I put on my wrists and a red and yellow headband. There was a red choker with the Gryffindor lion charm. I also had a red bow but I chose to wear the headband instead. I had red and yellow face paint that I painted on both sides of my cheeks. I knew Scar and Miguel would disapprove of the face paint but at least I was wearing the dress Miguel picked out for me. After I pulled my hair back into a ponytail and put my black robe on, I headed downstairs to breakfast with the rest of my family.

"You excited?" Nala asked me, giving me an enthusiastic smile.

"Yeah. A little nervous, but mostly excited. I have Defense Against the Dark Arts today first. The class I am really looking forward to is flying class." I said. "I just wished you guys would be able to come with me."

"Well, in a way we will. We got jobs as volunteers at Hogwarts so we will be helping out your teachers at the school." Jessica said.

"Oh, nice," I said.

It was silent for a while. While I was eating my food, Scar pulled me aside. "Listen, Lana. You better behave when you're at school. If I hear from your teachers that you have misbehaved then there will be consequences, understand?"

I nodded, letting him know that I was listening. "Yes, Scar. I understand." I said.

"Good," Scar said. He pulled me in for a kiss, then we went back to the table to finish breakfast. Before we headed for class, I needed to talk to Miguel first.

"What do you need, Lana?" Miguel asked me.

"Well, I know it's your turn to sleep with me tonight, but I was wondering if you could let me sleep with Margo and Nala tonight? I promise I'll be good if you let me." I begged, giving him the puppy eyes.

"Not tonight. It's still my turn to sleep with you. Plus, if you sleep with Margo and Nala, you'll never go to sleep. You girls stay up late, talking and watching movies." Miguel said.

"What if I don't want to sleep? You know I am a night owl." I said.

"Lana, you need to stop. Now." Miguel said.

"Stop what, Miguel?" I asked, wrapping my arms around him.

"Enough, brat!" Miguel growled, pushing me off. "Tell you what, if you behave during school this week, I will let you sleep with Margo and Nala. And don't think for a second I forgot about you're behavior this morning. I'm not gonna let that fly. You're grounded for the week for giving me attitude this morning."

I hung my head low when he said I was grounded for the week. I looked at my husband, tears forming in my eyes. "You promise you will let me sleep with Margo and Nala next week?" I asked him.

"Yes. Can you be a good girl for me until then?" Miguel asked me.

I sniffled. "Y-Yeah," I said weakly. Miguel pulls me into a hug and kisses me.

"Lana! Come on, it's time for class!" Margo called. I was feeling down as we were walking to our first class of the day, Defense Against the Dark Arts.

"Are you okay?" Miles asked me.

"Yeah, I'm just... tired," I said.

When we entered the DADA room, Professor Moody was there, waiting for us. Class started when we took our seats. I sat next to Hermione while the boys, Harry and Ron were sitting next to each other. My family was sitting in the back of the classroom.

"Alastor Moody. Ex-Auror... Ministry malcontent... and your new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. I am here because Dumbledore asked me. End of story, goodbye, the end. Any questions? When it comes to the Dark Arts... I believe in a practical approach. But first, which of you can tell me how many unforgivable curses there are?" Professor Moody said.

"Three, sir," Hermione said.

"And they are so named?" Professor Moody asked, writing on the chalkboard.

"Because they are unforgivable. The use of any of them will-" Hermione began but was cut off by Professor Moody.

"Will earn you a one-way ticket to Azkaban, correct! Now, the Ministry says you're too young to see what these curses do. I say different! You need to know what you're up against! You need to be prepared. You need to find another place to put your chewing gum beside the underside of your desk, Mr. Finnigan!" Professor Moody yelled.

We all turned to look at Seamus. "No way. The old codger can see out the back of his head." Seamus said.

We all ducked when Professor Moody threw a piece of chalk across the room, yelling, "And hear across the classroom!"

"So which curse shall we see first?" Professor Moody asked.

"Sir, I don't think we should be showing these kids those things," Uru said with concern.

"Nonsense Uru, those kids need to be prepared. Weasley!" Professor Moody barked, startling Ron.

"Yes?" Ron said.

"Stand." Professor Moody ordered.

"Give us a curse." Professor Moody said.

"Oh boy," Uru said.

"Shits about to get real," Hobie said.

"Just hope these poor kids won't be traumatized especially Lana," Uru said.

"Guys don't worry about me I'll be fine," I said assuringly.

Ron took a moment to process everything before speaking up. "Well... my dad did tell me about one. The Imperius Curse." Ron said nervously.

"Oh yeah, your father would know all about that. Gave the Ministry quite a bit of grief a few years ago. Perhaps this will show you why." Professor Moody said. Professor Moody walked over to his desk. He opened up a jar that held a spider. Professor Moody got the spider out of the jar. "Hello. Lovely little beauty."

Professor Moody got out his wand and pointed it at the spider. "Engargo! Imperio!"

The spider got big! It then began stretching its legs out. I gritted my teeth in disgust. Professor Moody used his wand to send it across the classroom. The spider landed on Nevill's and Dean's desk. Dean gasped when the spider got close to him. Professor Moody sends them over to Crabbe who whimpers as the spider crawls on his head.

"Don't worry. It's completely harmless." Professor Moody said. Professor Moody then sends the spider over to a girl's desk. The girl was gasping. She looked like she was having a panic attack as the spider was crawling on her arm. Then the spider went over to Ron. Ron was whimpering while the spider was dangling over his head. Ron has a horrible fear of spiders. "If she bites... she's lethal." Professor Moody said.

Professor Moody was laughing. He placed the spider on Ron's head. I too was laughing at my dad. Meanwhile, Draco was laughing his ass off. Professor Moody noticed Draco laughing. "What are you laughing at?" Professor Moody said, throwing the spider over to Draco. Draco screamed when the spider landed on his face. The students were laughing and so was I. I nearly fell out of my chair because of how hard I was laughing.

"Get off!" Draco screamed.

Harry smiles, clapping his hands. I screamed and jumped on Hermione when the spider landed on my shoulder. "Holy fuck! Get it off! Mom help me!" I screamed.

I whimpered when the spider continued to crawl all over me. "It's okay Lana, she won't hurt you," Hermione said in between laughs. Harry and Ron were laughing at me and so was my family.

"Bro, your Spider-Man, and you're afraid of spiders!" Pavitr said.

I was able to get back into my seat to catch my breath when the spider stopped crawling on me. "Talented, isn't she? What should I have her do next? Jump out the window? Drown herself?" Professor Moody said, throwing the spider to the window, then to the jar of water. The spider was dangling over the water, fighting not to go in. Professor Moody brings the spider back to his hand. I sighed with relief and held onto Hermione's hand.

"Scores of witches and wizards have claimed that they only did You-Know-Who's bidding under the influence of the Imperius Curse. But here's the rub: How do we sort out the liars? Another, another." Professor Moody said.

Everyone raised their hands, including me even though I don't know anything about magic or curses yet.

"Up, up. Come on, Longbottom, is it? Up." Professor Moody said. Nevill slowly stood up from his seat. "Professor Sprout tells me you have an aptitude for herbology."

Nevill nodded saying, "There's the um... The Crucitas Curse."

"Correct. Correct. Come, come. Particularly nasty. The torture curse. Crucio!" Professor Moody yelled, pointing the wand at the spider. The spider began to squeal as it was stretching out its body. I cringed at the sight of this. Nevill was also feeling a sight of discomfort. The spider was squealing with pain. Hermione covered my eyes.

"Stop it! Can't you see it's bothering him, stop it!" Hermione yelled. But Professor Moody ignored her and continued performing the curse.

"That's enough!" Ahadi yelled. Professor Moody stopped performing the curse. I got nervous when he walked over to our desk. Professor Moody sets the spider down in front of me and Hermione. I held onto Hermione's hand tightly.

"Perhaps you could give us the last Unforgivable Curse, Miss Granger?" Professor Moody asked. Hermione says nothing, shaking her head.

"No? What about you, Mrs. Potter?" Professor Moody asked. I stayed silent.

Professor Moody points his wand at the spider. "Avada Kadavar!" He yelled. Green sparks shot from the wand. Within seconds, the spider dropped dead on the desk. Hermione turned her head away, disgusted and shocked by what she saw. My eyes were wide. I was too shocked to speak. I looked over at Harry who was also in shock.

"The Killing Curse. Only one person is known to have survived it... and he's sitting in this room." Professor Moody said. Professor Moody got uncomfortably close to Harry's desk. Professor Moody once again opened up his bottle to take a drink. We walked out of the classroom. I was still in shock with what I saw.

"Lana? Honey, are you okay?" Margo asked me.

"I don't wanna talk about it!" I snapped.

"Brilliant, isn't he? Completely demented, of course and terrifying to be in the same room with but he's really been there, you know? He's looked evil in the eyes." Ron said.

"There's a reason those curses are unforgivable. To perform them in a classroom!" Hermione shouted.

"That nerve of him!" Rio exclaimed.

"I know! I mean, did you see Neville's face?" Hermione said. I saw Neville who was in shock, staring at the wall.

"Mom!" I shouted, nudging Hermione.

"Hey," Ron said quietly.

"Neville, are you okay?" Hermione asked.

"Hey bud, is everything alright?" Mufasa asked him.

Professor Moody walked up to Neville. "Son? You all right?" Professor Moody asked. Neville said nothing.

"How could he be alright? You tortured a spider in front of him! You saw it bother him, yet you continued with it anyway!" Nala shouted.

"Nala, it's okay," Simba said, pulling Nala back.

"No, it's not." Nala spat.

Professor Moody put his hand on Neville. "Come on. We'll have a cup of tea. I want to show you something." Professor Moody said. Professor Moody ignored Nala's words as he led Neville back to his office.

"I have a bad feeling about that guy," Miles said when they disappeared.

"Yeah, something is off," I said.

After a few more hours of classes, we had our break time for today. I was hanging out with my family in the Great Hall with the other kids. We were having fun, watching people putting their names in the Goblet of Fire, cheering them on. A group of boys pulled Cedric towards the Goblet.

"Come on Cedric. Put it in!" One boy shouted. I watched with amazement when Cedric crossed the age line Professor Dumbledore drew. We clapped and cheered when Cedric put his name in the Goblet. Cedric smiled as he walked away. I waved to him when he passed by.

"Eternal Glory. Be brilliant, wouldn't it? Three years from now, when we're old enough to be chosen." Ron said with a smile.

"Yeah, rather you than me," Harry said.

"Ugh, it's unfair," I whined.

"Life's not fair, Lana. Get over it." Miguel said.

"I know you want to sweetie, but it's for your safety," Gwen said, wrapping her arm around me. Before I could say anything more, my Uncles, Fred and George came running into the room, screaming.

"Yes!" They both said. We all clapped and cheered for them when they ran up to us. We high-fived them.

"Thank you, thank you. Well, lads, we've done it!" Uncle Fred shouted.

"Cooked it up this morning." Uncle George said.

"It's not going to work." Hermione sang.

"It may be worth reconsidering the idea you have proposed," Margo said.

"Oh, yeah?" Uncle George says as the twins hovered over Hermione and Margo.

"And why is that, Granger? Kess?" Uncle Fred asked.

"You see this? This is an Age Line. Dumbledore drew it himself." Hermione explained.

"So?" Uncle Fred questioned.

Hermione raised her eyebrows. "So. A genius like Dumbledore couldn't possibly be fooled by a dodge as a pathetically dimwitted Aging Potion." Hermione said.

"Ah, but that's why it's so brilliant." Uncle George said.

"'cause it's so pathetically dimwitted." Uncle Fred said.

"Enjoy yourself while being enchanted, but please don't come to me for help if anything goes wrong," Sarabi said.

Uncle Fred and Uncle George stood up, preparing their potions. "Ready Fred?" Uncle George asked.

"Ready George." Uncle Fred said.

"Want a sip of this, Lana? We overheard you talking about wanting to be in the tournament." Uncle Fred said.

"I..." I started, but Nala cut me off.

"Oh no, she is not having any of that," Nala said firmly, pulling me away.

"Nala!" I whined.

"No." Nala said firmly.

"Okay, suit yourself." Uncle George said. They both opened their bottles. "Bottoms up!" They both said. At the same time, they took sips of their potions.

"What idiots. They don't know what they're getting into," Aunt Sarafina said through gritted teeth.

The twins jumped through the age line. "Yes!" They both shouted. We all clapped and cheered.

"Ready?" Uncle George asked. Uncle George threw the paper into the Goblet. Suddenly, fire from the Goblet shot toward them, pushing them back. We backed away when the fire got close to us. They landed on the ground with a thud. When they sat up to look at each other, we saw that they were both old! Everyone laughed, including me.

"You said!" Uncle Fred yelled.

"You said!" Uncle George yelled back. They attacked each other and started fighting.

"Woah, school fight!" I shouted.

"Oh, right? You want a piece of me?!" Uncle George yelled.

"Get off or I'll tear your ears off!" Uncle Fred shouted.

"Wow, look at that," Kovu said.

"Try not to kill each other!" Hobie shouted. I laughed at Hobie's comment. Uncle Fred and Uncle George continued fighting.

"Come on! Take this! Come on!" Uncle George yelled as he was tackling his brother.

"Fight! Fight! Fight!" Everyone shouted. I joined in on the chant, watching with amusement. So far, this is the best/worst school day ever. "Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!"

Hermione did not seem amused. She just rolled her eyes and opened a book to try to block out the noise.

"Yeah, but you look older!" Uncle George yelled.

The fighting soon died down when everyone turned around to see Victor Krum walking into the room with a serious facial expression. I could tell that the fighting didn't seem to amuse him. Krum didn't say a word when he put his name in the Goblet. Krum took a look at Hermione before he left the room. Although I was tempted to participate in the tournament, I am aware of the potential risks involved and have decided not to take part in it, no matter how much I want to.
