There wasn't much to say about the first day. Filia left Team RWBY long before they woke up to take care of a few pressing matters for herself; Most notably, general hygiene since walking on campus with sentient hair more likely come off as creepy and may subject her to having to fight the Vale military. She returned after a long shower and doing what she could to hide the dark marks under her eyes only to find Ruby and the team refurnished the room with bunk beds. At that same moment on her return the team learned that they were late for their first class.
The misaligned team was fortunate that Weiss had memorized Beacon's layout before any of the team could though Blake certainly seemed to be aware of shortcuts. She entered the class on time and grabbed the assigned textbook before covering the pages with a comic book she swiped from a student who was already asleep. That was when he walked in.
The class on Grimm studies was taught by what could be described as a very broad shouldered man with grayed well-groomed hair and a very impressive mustache. His attire being a burgundy double-breasted suit with yellow lining dark pants and green shoes. Filia could not help but think he may have been overdressed for school but given her experiences with Saint Theresa High School back in New Meridian, it was not like she had a leg to stand.
Peter Port, as he proclaimed his name was abnormal to her. He was a very enthusiastic man. "And that is where we come in." He started his first class, After a long introduction to his subject matter. He continued the lecture causing Filia to slowly go into a bit of a haze, though she remained fairly focused at least on how other students seemed to be watching the portly lecturer's lesson.
Samson on the other hand was annoyed; He may have been used to hiding as usual, but even he has limits especially when dealing with classrooms. He was like this back in Meridian as well. Granted, it was when Filia first tried to hide him. The two had a very difficult learning period trying to coexist with one another. Though after a few close calls the two began to be well in synced between one another.
Here at Beacon however, Filia kept herself somewhat on edge. The phone device this world called a scroll that was provided by Beacon on loan she eyed it left and right taking in its details but the big thing was a message from Goodwitch informing the two that her professors have been informed about Samson's existence though had been sworn to keep it in the upmost confidence. The two were hesitant on this, in a humorous sense fate, Port was being put under their own test of faith to maintain silence about Samson, while the two were tasked to keep him hidden.
Filia went and refocused on the lesson at hand despite Samson's disdained grumbling covering her and Ruby's almost out of hearing ears. "That is why you are here. But first, a story."
"Are you freaking kidding me? A Story?" Samson silently erupted from under Filia's hat, wrestling the cap to the left and right without the amnesiac host's hands near it. "A lot of parasites accuse me of having an ego they clearly never meant this infection." Filia was beginning to sweat bullets, if he gets any madder he is bound to get her in trouble. The worst part was this time, she did not have a milkshake to splatter him with should he go too ballistic again.
Ruby eyed Filia concerned. To her she saw the mystery student wide eyed glancing all over while placing her hands to the hat that secretly was hiding a literal monster. Ever since she meant Samson she gained a new perspective on the mysterious traveler and the world she was from. "A world where Grimm does not exist" as she called it. "A more sinister evil where I'm from, One I fear greatly." She may not know what the two meant by that but it was clear they live in fear of this so-called great evil. She tilted her head back ignoring Samson's ranting as she began to listen back in on the professor's autobiography.
Course, that did not last long because within ten minutes of his story she began doodling the egocentric teacher on her paper to amuse herself.
Weiss on the other hand was on her last straw with her team captain. She angrily eyed her from the side watching her screw around with whatever was at her disposal. It was a legit mystery as to why out of the five of them she was selected. "(Was it because she killed the nevermore? It has to be the reason.)" was all she thought watching the red hooded reaper continue to fall asleep, draw on her notes, or even pick her nose. Her gaze drifted away from Ruby to Filia who was listening to the professor though every now and then she seemed to scan the room nervous about something "(Even the useless employee turned huntress is more capable than this child.)" was another thought pacing her mind as she angrily eyed the mysterious baller cap wearing Filia. She observed the panicking girl as she seemed to be sweating like she was in the middle of an exam, often fidgeting with her hat. "(Of all people, how did the one that makes Jaune look competent get in?)" She rolled her eyes in anger at the two before returning her attention to the Professor giving his speech.
"So, who among you Believes themselves to be the true embodiment of these traits?" the mustached professor asked. Weiss immediately shot her hand up with a firm belief in her mind she was qualified for such a title. "Well then let us test that he started looking at the pig cage with several menacing growls coming from it.
Wiess got up and walked to the center of the class. Filia tilted her hat so Samson could watch he responded with a malicious chuckle. "Oh, this is going to be good." Samson grinned waiting for the pristine aristocrat to get humbled. Filia just smiled meekly because he had not caused any real trouble for her, at least not yet. The two looked back toward Weiss as she lifted her rapier into a fighting stance. It went without saying her form was well practiced often at the ready and her eyes narrowed focused at her prey. The professor opened the cage for a boar with bone plated armor to come barreling out its tusk pointed right at Wiess. She parried and rolled out of the way, her rapier did nothing to the thick plates on its head. Samson watched with an amused leer seeing the way she eyed her opponent waiting for it to strike. "Hey kid watch, Mrs. Noble is going to get caught in its tusk" He grinned watching her stance.
The comment caught the host off guard, "How can you tell?" Filia asked, still watching her teammate. Weiss at that moment had redoubled her efforts to find her opening while the boar grimm readied to charge for a second time.
"Hang in there Wiess" Ruby yelled. Her call for encouragement had the opposite effect, angering Wiess who was at first looking for an opening. At one point focused and ignoring everything around her; now she was just blindly charging at the creature in front of her.
"She hates her leader" Samson stated right as she got parried by the creature and stuck on its tusks. Throwing Weiss into a state of disadvantage.
Filia looked to see the heiress glare at Ruby who she couldn't tell if she was mad only at her or something else. Samson seemed to hold more insight into the team than he let on. "Why?" She asked now watching the way the entire team was interacting with one another.
Samson grinned thinking of an answer "When ya been around long as I have. You pick up on how to read people, Kids are just easier to read." He explained as he tucked himself back under the hat.
The comment puzzled Filia. She remembered her classes back home taught her that parasites have much longer life spans, some having been around for hundreds of years. "How old are you Samson?" she asked quietly to herself as her eyes returned to watching Weiss who was looking worse for wear.
Samson gave another half-mused chuckle "Old enough kid." He responded.
Weiss now, had just been disarmed and pushed to the other side of the room. She began getting up as the creature charged at her. She dodged rolled again causing it to ram into part of the student seating area. As it shook off its confusion Weiss dashed for her Rapier. She got into position as the black pig began picking up momentum like a tire trying to fight several layers of brakes. To Filia she began wondering if this is what her and Samson's hairball maneuver looks like from the outside of the cocoon. It began to charge until it came to a halt as it hit a blue circle made by Weiss somehow. Seeing an opportunity, she retaliated by jumping onto a blue one as it turned black holding her in place before skewering the pig in the throat.
The professor looked at her while she was still breathing heavily on the ground "Bravo, bravo." He stated enthusiastically "It appears we are in the presence of a true huntress in training." Weiss got back to her feet.
All the class watched her storm out of the room angry "What did I tell ya." Samson proclaimed in a non-caring tone about what happened "She can really learn to lighten up if you ask me."
Filia however, was not amused by his cavalier response. "Samson." Filia mumbled hoping no one heard him. Luckily no one was paying mind to her.
Elsewhere…
Peter Port was observing the sunset trying to decide on what his next grand tale would be about for his next lesson before a white-haired student approached him. He recognized her as Weiss Schnee
"Ah, Ms. Schnee" He spoke with a grandiose tone that fit his larger-than-life personality. "and to what do I owe this fine pleasure?" He questioned her.
Weiss was nervous. She to some degree knew the truth as to why she is not the leader compared to Ruby, but she part of her couldn't seem to respect the choice of the headmaster. "I enjoyed your lecture." she stammered waiting to ask her question; of course the Professor knew already that she enjoyed his tales of heroism, everyone did. He began to boast about it when she came clean with her question "I think I should have been put in charge of team RWBY.
Port stood there curious at her belief. True Weiss proved to be far more knowledgeable in combat compared to the rather easily distracted Rose. But her own arrogance toward the situation proved to be her biggest downfall. He was certain that she wasn't even familiar with her whole team compared to Ruby who had an advantage there. She knew little of Blake Belladonna but her teamwork focused demeaner proved to be rather enthusiastic. Yang was Ruby's sister of course the two know each other inside and out, and as of a few nights ago, according to Ozpin and his own observations Ruby is aware of Filia's secret origins. "Miss Schnee" he spoke calmly, "Ozpin's choices have never led me astray. The only thing that you have proved other than your ability on the battlefield is your attitude toward those on your own team."
Weiss's veins began to budge hearing those words from his mouth. "how dare you!" she yelled angered at the professor.
Port remained almost unphased by the teen's outburst "I believe I have proven my point." He again spoke calmly. "Weiss I'm beginning to believe you are unaware just how unprepared you are for the position as leader." He spoke sternly "in fact I wager that you do not have the trust of anyone on your assigned team." He started to muse from his observations.
Weiss began backing down at his words she never enjoyed getting called a spoiled brat, let alone unobservant, a Schnee must always be able make conclusions with minimal details. However, she drew the line at the claim that she is untrustworthy. "I am extremely trustworthy, I know Blake would stick her neck out for me if it was needed."
At this point, Port was certain how far she was from reality. "Miss Schnee, the only one willing to stick her neck out for you is none other than your hated leader: Miss Rose."
His rebuttal shocked the heiress causing her to do a mental double take of their conversation. "What?"
Port did not give her a moment to think about it as he continued. "Even adding more insult to injury" He started pausing on how to explain it then a thought crossed his mind about the two girls on Weiss' team who have exceptionally well-hidden secrets. "Most members of her team trust her except you. including a particular charity case."
Weiss' brow furrowed at the inferred individual "(Filia? Of all people, he brings up he chooses the one who makes Jaune look competent.)" she said to herself angered. "Filia should not even be part of our team let along this school." She argued back.
"I'm afraid Ms. Samson is more than capable of being regarded as part of your team as well as attending this school." He retorted almost unamused at her behavior. "Her unique abilities make her something no one here has seen. Perhaps before concluding on a person, you should learn more about them." He stated sternly.
With that Port left leaving Weiss dumbfounded. Watching him leave she began to watch the sunset "(what could a simple store clerk have so secret she would trust a wannabe leader over someone like me?)" With that thought in her head she decided it was best to find out truly what Filia was hiding.
Later that night
Filia was in the main quarters studying the professor's reading assignment with Ruby and Yang. The three of them, however, agreed that a textbook is not exactly the greatest form of reading material. Most of the book was just it being a history of Remnant, a very long and bloody history. To Yang and Ruby most of it was just a repeat of classes from their education at Signal academy. For Filia unfortunately, it was like dedicating part of your brain to a fantasy book. She put the book down rubbing her temples trying to settle herself down from the overload. "Ugh, how have you people been around for this long?" was what she asked getting an awkward look from Yang and Blake.
Ruby poked her head up confused until she realized what the fifth member of her team implied. "Yeah" she said nervously laughing "with how dangerous they paint Grimm in this it can be baffling." Hoping Blake and Yang would not catch on to their teammate's strange comment.
This did not work on one member as she noted the page the textbook was on. "Uh, Filia?" Blake asked concerned "How much do you know of Remnant's history?" She made the realization that instead of halfway through the book like Ruby Yang and her, Filia's book was back by an additional two hundred or so pages. "Why are you that far back?"
"The assignment brought up some kind of second war that was caused by aggressive behavior during the last war." Filia stated continuing her reading. It wasn't helping Samson had fallen asleep; either he was bored having to stay hidden or tired. Ever since class Samson has insisted that the rest of team RWBY was ready to see him despite her hesitation. In Filia's case she saw how Ruby stared at her then during some of the classes. Because of that Filia began regretting introducing her parasitic partner as now she was not sure if the reaction would result in being attacked or understanding. That said, it seemed several professors she had were aware of the issue; Ozpin must have decided it was best to tell them in advance making sure Samson was not discovered on accident.
Her inner turmoil was broken when one of the other three girls said "Hey, you're not looking good." Yang asked noticing her inner conflict she was having. Samson seemed to wake from his nap as she spoke. "Something wrong?"
"Um, you are probably just tired, yeah something like that" Ruby began to speak up but trailed off acting both Blake and Yang off guard she was acting weird, or at least, weirder than the weapon obsessed introvert she usually was. Filia knew that she was trying to help her hide Samson, but at this rate she just made her look more suspect. Yang really gave it away giving her sister the stink eye like she knew she was lying though never pressed it.
"I think I'll turn in for the night." Filia spoke up deciding it would help draw wandering eyes away from her. She got up and put her books back in her room and grabbed the Shower pack and left for the showers. All nighttime students should have already cleaned up for the night so there was no difficulty trying to hide Samson. She entered the washroom and took the shower with one of the larger curtains. She started the shower and began to clean as Samson washed himself.
The silence of the room was smothered by the showerhead's stream of hot water. "Three weeks." Filia finally broke the silence with a weak almost heartbroken voice. Samson looked toward her confused, as she felt the parasite's gaze on her she spoke up again, "We have officially been here for three weeks."
He began to count in his head, she was not wrong. He started to guess that she may have been on the verge of defeat. Everything was happening so fast, being a homeless nobody on the streets of a cold glitzy city to being stuck in a situation where she clearly was in over her head. It's no surprise that she had lost hope of ever going home or finding out the mystery that was herself.
Samson sighed he was struggling with his own conflict. "(Should I tell her?)" he asked in his own thoughts. He breathed heavily before speaking sorely. "Kid" He spoke "I got somethin' to tell you." He was concerned about how she would react. His own gut was starting to become light. So far, she seemed to be curious why he is trying to be friendly with her. "Ya know how we concluded that I was the cause of your memory loss.' She nodded slowly. The parasite could feel his own gut screaming at him to tell the truth to let her know.
But he gritted his teeth on it. "You asked me to wipe your memory." He started to explain only for the girl to cut him off.
"What?" Filia seemed more dumbstruck than angered. "Why?"
The parasite sighed already disappointed though not toward Filia. "I'll tell it back at the room." He said cautiously "It's a long story."
Flashback
I remember the day like it was any other. Trapped in that damn jar. I couldn't do much inside it. I couldn't escape, it was like a cell. Death was closing in on me, another six months and that would have been the end of me.
Before I meant you, I was locked away in a jar by that damn teacher… I was used along with other captive (or dead) parasites to explain the threat we were, we were a damn science fair project. That damn professor found me after my last hosts death. He locked me in there for five years. Showing me off as part of his collection. That year though, you happened. I don't know the details fully I only saw you three times before you kidnapped me.
The first time was a simple one he was passing us around the classroom. That was the first time that I saw you. course at the time. You had another girl with you though. After that day, I never saw her again. Brown haired, cute face clearly innocent, unlike you. You were different, guarded, untrusting, heck I'd even say hesitant. Despite you being unaware of that. I don't know what happened, I felt your presence on me a week later watching behind the glass on the cupboard. I turned an eye onto you with confusion. Your eyes were red as you left that day. hours later the local clean up help arrived and I was taken figured they were gonna dispose of me. Instead You were there again, messenger bag and a ridiculous amount of cash.
"I hope you know what you're doing." The help said concerned.
"Just keep up your end of the deal." You spoke in a firm tone but from my view all I could see was the top of your hair. Not even sure why you wanted one of us so badly.
Your bribed help want in on it though after flaunting your cash to the man who agreed eventually.
"I no longer want any part of my family anymore." Filia spoke to her angered as she stuffed me into the bag. "Never tell me who I am related to." There was a long pause before she spoke again "I already know what this will do to me. When that day comes, treat me like the others, a typical normal student… Well, sides the parasite."
He didn't like your answer but relented anyway, walking away.
The inside of this your bag was crammed from what I could tell it was filled with cash, clothes, and I think a few bus passes. All I asked myself during this journey is "Who the hell kidnapped me? The smells of New Meridian were my only insight into what was going on. All I caught wind of was what smelled like food and sea salt. Whoever she was it was clear that she was near either the harbor or Little Innsmouth.
What felt like an hour passed before she closed a door and placed her bag on something bouncy, must have been a bed. Leave it to a spoiled runt to think I'm some kind of damn pet. Finally, the flap of the bag opened and her hand reached in pulling my cell opening its door and tossing me into a box. Inside to my surprise was what looked like a massive turkey. I'm not the type to let a meal go to waste so I swallowed the bird whole as she walked off to the bathroom an ashtray and those IDs in hand. She put them in the ash tray, drizzled something on them and lit a match to burn them. I kept asking who this kid was. She walked up to the box that was holding me and began to speak. "Hello" her response was nervous almost as if she had second thoughts. Whoever this Filia was she definitely was not confident.
"What do you want?" I asked aggressively trying to scare this her away.
"Okay, down to business" she seemed disappointed to be honest. She was clearly a rookie, naive, a rich kid with no idea what she was doing. "Okay I'll get to the point." I eyed her as I continued my feast. "I want you to erase my memories." I coughed up some of the meat from her response. "I no longer want to be me." She explained.
"Look lady" I responded "you are not going to like what I'll have to do to you if that's the case."
She seemed to pause for a second before inhaling and remaining firm "I am aware what You parasites do." She spoke with a clean determined tone it was almost unsettling how she was okay with what could be equated to a memory suicide. "But I already have lived with monsters. What's the difference if I replace four in human clothes with an actual?" She asked me that question causing me to pause as well.
I sighed "You got guts kid, I'll give ya that." I took another bite of the bird. "But I'm not into the type that are interested in being infected." She began to look down disappointed. If why she is doing this is true, I just figured out what the hell. "That being said I do owe you for Saving my hide. The name's Samson kid, and you better be ready to deal with hell till the day you die."
With that I leaped onto her infecting her hair for it to become my new home, erasing her memories in the process. She was out cold till daybreak.
Back in present time
Filia looked at Samson almost feeling betrayed "Why?" she asked, tears filling her eyes. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Kid, the way you acted that night told me that whatever you're looking for was going to lead you to a world of pain." Samson spoke defending himself. "I did what I could to help you but You did not want me to tell you anything regarding it. All I know is that you were running from something and that's it."
He doesn't blame Filia for feeling betrayed. At the same time Filia couldn't blame Samson for withholding that information simply since neither had a good idea as to why they did. He was just as confused as her about the events that unfolded that night. "Kid I'm sorry but I got an idea should we ever return to make up for it." Filia straightened herself out and began to listen. "We could do what we thought was improbable and chase down the Skullheart."
Filia thought about that idea. It was theoretical but she thought about the story he heard from Samson. "As tempting as that is I think it's best we forget about our past. At least, for now anyways." She spoke a little more cheerfully than she had the last week and half. Smiling in the mirror. "And tomorrow we'll start by showing people how we fight downtown." She declared a new fire sparked in her eyes to Samson's surprise.
He simply grinned, extending her hair to form that of wind catching it as signs of approval. "I like the sound of this. Finally, some action."
Epilogue
"That is all I can say regarding my theories professor. She's not qualified to be a huntress." Goodwitch spoke to Ozpin concerned.
"I understand your concern about Filia but I believe you are undermining Samson in your equation." Ozpin spoke as calmly as ever. "In theory, Filia and Samson is the epitome of teamwork on a level most students would spend years trying to master."
Goodwitch angrily eyed him as she approached his desk. "She has no aura." Her tone suggested she was holding a high amount of annoyance toward the headmaster for what seemed to be one of his ludicrous schemes. " You heard Professor Oobleck yourself, there are too many unknown variables in such a practice. We can't guarantee if Filia's aura would kill the two of them due to the fact Samson is a parasite."
"Now Glynda." Ozpin spoke calmly I have faith that they will do well even without aura to protect them if you are so concerned you can talk to our associates at Atlas and see how they would treat her after discovering her case."
The two stared each other in their eyes trying to see who would concede first. in the end Goodwitch leaned back from the headmaster and went to leave. Suddenly her tablet began reacting. She looked down at her screen and looked at Ozpin. "For her sake, I hope you are correct." she spoke gravely looking back down at the screen. "She plans to fight tomorrow."
