History: Inspired by the first Captain America, Daily Bugle reporter donned the costume of the Patriot to fight crime in New York City. When war broke out, Mace joined the Liberty Legion to protect the home front. He also occasionally teamed up with socialite Mary Morgan, who took on the name Miss Patriot.

After the war ended, Mace was on assignment in Pennsylvania when he caught the All-Winners Squad battling Adam II. When Captain America (Nasland) died, Mace took on the mantle to stop Adam II's rampage. From there he was inducted into the All-Winners Squad, although it was not an easy fit. When the team disbanded, Mace continued as Captain America. When Bucky (Davis) was shot in the line of duty, Mace gained a partner in Golden Girl (Elizbeth Ross), who used to work with the first Captain.

Pressured by the FBI to report on the activities of the war time heroes, Mace quietly retired as Captain America in 1949 and settled down with his wife, only occasionally donning the Patriot costume.

When William Burnside took over the mantle of Captain America in the 50's, Mace tracked the man down to chat. The meeting ended with a fight. Mace more or less fully retired after that, although he donned the mantle of the Patriot one last time for a mission in the 70's.

Mace passed away in 1983.
