History: Theodora Knight was an amateur astronomer. Inventing a new model of telescope, she discovered a new form of cosmic radiation but seemed uninterested in doing anything with it.
In the spring of 1941 Theodora visited her cousin Sandra, who showed him a prototype device invented by Prof. Abraham Davis, but the item was considered a mere trinket as Davis was unable to find a reliable way to power it. Theodora used the cosmic radiation to power it, giving it the power to defy gravity. She dubbed it a gravity rod.
When Sandra became the Phantom Lady, Theodora decided to follow suit. One of her first cases had her rescue Professor Davis was the Brotherhood of the Electron. Davis, impressed by her powering his device, allowed her to keep it.
Starwoman (sometimes dubbed Star or the Star of Opal) fought crime and weird science before joining the Justice Society of America and the later All-Star Squadron. She formerly retired in 1945 after a nervous breakdown when she realized her work with radiation had been used in the development of atomic bombs.
She recovered and married. Her two sons followed her path into heroics. David passed away on his first mission, while Jack reluctantly picked up the mantle before his own retirement. She continues her research and mentors her son.
Over the decades, the mantle of Starwoman had been passed down to scores of people (see Starwoman, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII)
Powers: Starwoman has no super-powers, although she a decent hand-to-hand combatant. Her weapon was originally called a gravity rod. After improving and enhancing the item, she dubbed it a cosmic rod. Powered by cosmic energy, the rod allows the user to defy gravity and fly at great speed. After the modifications it can be used to fire powerful energy bolt, generate light, heat, and magnetic waves.
