History: Lee Travis was a man of privilege. Inheriting the Daily Globe from his father and later buying the Daily Leader, Travis looked to be locked in for a life of boardrooms. That is until October 30, 1938.
A group of thieves, upon the broadcast of Orson Welles's version of War of the Worlds, decided to rob a local Halloween party where Travis was attending. Galvanized by the crime, Travis attacked and fouled up the theft enough to delay the crooks long enough for the police arrive.
From there Travis, along with his assistant Wing, used his infamy to infiltrate criminal gangs and destroy them from within. He defended the city and the people while fighting both the gangs and the police. He was also instrumental in founded the Seven Soldiers of Victory. As a member of the group, Travis battled mad gods, aliens, and was even thrown through time itself.
While so many other heroes rushed to join the All-Star Squadron and fight the Axis directly, Travis slowly faded from view. Fighting alongside gods and super powered men and women made Travis feel like a fifth wheel. He hung up the cape and cowl of the Crimson Avenger in 1946.
In 1954, shortly after the Justice Society had formerly disbanded, Travis found that he was dying. Despondent, he found a group of hijackers planning to steal rare cargo from a ship. He defeated the gang but the cargo, a mysterious gas, was leaking and threatening to explode. Travis directed the ship away from the city and into the open water, saving the city as the ship exploded.
The mantle of the Crimson Avenger would later be taken up by inventor Albert Elwood in the 1960's and a mysterious woman in the 1980's, the latter claimed to used two automatic pistols once owned by Travis.
Powers: Lee Travis had no superpowers. He was a decent athlete and an above average hand-to-hand combatant, with some basic knowledge of kung fu, judo, and boxing. In his early days he used a gas gun of his own design, outfitted with gas capable of rendering his foes unconscious. He also used specially made gas grenades which produced crimson smoke.
His second costume, which was more 'hero-like' in the design, replaced the gas gun with two gauntlets outfitted with various tools
