History: Joan and her future husband Jay were students at Midwestern University. Surprising Jay at his studies one night, Joan was accidently exposed to the fumes of hard water Jay had been studying. Afterwards, Joan discovered that the fumes had given her the ability to move at superhuman speed.
With Jay in her confidence, Joan was able to hide her features by both moving at super speed and vibrating her facial features, thus preventing anyone from getting a clear look. Jay loaned her his father's World War I helmet to serve as her own.
Setting herself up as a hero, the Flash later became a founding member of the Justice Society of America, as well as the All-Star Squadron.
Joan quietly retired in 1951 as a result of her refusal to reveal her identity to a congressional committee. She later married Jay and lived the life of a suburban housewife. She later resumed to her career when her old foes the Fiddler, the Shade, and the Thinker stole Keystone City. She briefly worked with her successor, the Flash II (Iris West) but has since stayed out of the limelight.
When the Justice League of America was formed, Joan officially gave the team her blessing, but opted to not to join another group.
Powers: The Flash possesses the power to move at superhuman speed, and go as fast as the speed of light (186,000 miles per second). She also has superhuman endurance, stamina, and limited invulnerability, as evidenced by her not being injured by the friction or heat caused by her speed.
She can also vibrate her body on the molecular level. She has used this ability to pass through solid objects without damaging them. She has also, on a few occasions, used this ability to travel to other dimensions and parallel earths. With some study and effort, the Flash can also vibrate her clothes and people without harming them.
