Gotham City - Several Days Later
Standing on top of the steps was weird.
I've been here maybe about half a dozen times or so, but we've met up on the rooftop, entering through the skyline.
Yet I figured it wouldn't be right entering like that unannounced this time around, so here I was standing awkwardly, my knuckles wrapping against the aged wooden door.
The door cracked opened and a tense and confused Pam was visible in the gap, she blinked owlishly when she took in my form, I was wearing my street clothes, however instead of the brown eyed flawless skin of Ammon Lilim the cousin of Bruce Wayne's son, the contacts that dulled my eyes gone, red pupils were on display underneath the drawn hoodie, the symmetrical scars that run from the edge of my cheeks, through my eyelids to my hairline, wasn't covered in a simple glamour spell.
"Well, this is a surprise?" She said with a soft voice as she opened the door wide, ushering me in.
"I figured I shouldn't come in my usual way." I pointed a thumb at the skyline.
"No, I meant the casual clothes." A teasing smile wormed their way onto her dark green lips.
I couldn't stop my mouth before I knew what was coming out, nor did I mean for it to come out so flirty, for a lack of a better word, "Were you hopin' for the mask?"
Was I hoping for her to blush and stumble upon herself? No, but I sure as hell wasn't expecting her to grin that mix of devilish and sexy to return, "If I said yes, would you hold it against me?"
No, I know what I want to hold against you however… "I said that out loud, didn't I?"
She dropped her gaze and let out a soft chuckle, "Yes, yes you did." She reached a hand out and motioned for the couch, "Come on."
We sat on the comfy furniture and an awkward air was around, sucking in my courage I opened my mouth, "Pam I'm sorry."/ "Have you been busy?" We said as the same time.
She snorted and motioned for me to go on, "I'm sorry, I got benched, and only recently have I been able to get out of the base without anyone tailing me." A week later. The majority had better things to do than keep an eye on me, plus Gotham didn't exactly have quiet moments.
She let out a hearty chuckle, "Were you... were you grounded?" She teased.
"Benched." I tried to correct her firmly, but a laugh escaped me as I did, I cleared my throat, "I was benched."
When her amusement died down, she then bit the corner of her bottom lip, "Was it because of…"
"Partly," I mumbled as I looked away, "I may have fudged the details, and the death may or may not have been classed as accidental."
"Good." Her hand reached out to mine, and she gave it a squeeze, "You don't deserve any blame for what happened." Her face scrunched up, "But why did you get grounded?"
"Benched." I corrected again much to her amusement, "Because when I woke up, I gave a very brief message to say I was fine and would be with them later. But they wanted to know where I was and why I didn't get back to them asap."
"Ohhh." She drawled.
"Yeah. I was tight lipped about it and covered my tracks well enough that they had to relent on my silence." Didn't mean they had to like it, worry, a tinge of grief that still lingered, annoyance equalled to anger, was it justified I don't know, but no one was a perfect rational being.
An unreadable smile was on her face as she leaned her side to the back of the couch and faced me, "So are you going to be able to cover your tracks often?" Her hand found its way onto my chest, rubbing it up and down, the smile on her face that promise something, oh so good.
Matching her position, my eyes took in her form, dressed down, joggers, tank top, long hair done up in a bun, she was sight nonetheless, effortless, "Depends. Would I need to?"
Her hand stopped and she pulled it back, or she tried to, but I caught it and held on, "Two if you don't-"
"I liked it…" My response was lame, and I had to withhold a wince as I heard the words out loud, "and I like you, a lot, but you have to admit we have a lot working against us."
She let out a scoff, but she didn't try to pull away, "We don't have a lot working against us." She stated firmly.
"Yes-"
"No, we don't."
I let out a sigh as she gave me a hard look, "Fine maybe not a lot, but the things working against us aren't exactly small." I reasoned.
Her face softened as she agreed with what I said, "The fact that I'm a supervillain."
"I'm a cape as you call them."
"Your age." / "Harley."
"My age?" / "Harley?"
She glared at me, commanding me to explain, "Come on." Hoping that the reasoning was enough said, but with the heat turned up on her gaze, I continued, "You had it bad for her the last I checked."
"I'm done entertaining the thought of her giving the Joker up." She stated with an edge to her voice, wait does mean that she went back to the nutjob? Even still, would I be dropped the moment Harley Quinn realises despite being a total shit show of a person, she's still too good for the Joker?
Pam pulled away and looked down at her hands, her thoughts a million miles away as she spoke lightly and in an almost pained voice, "I want to be happy, for once."
"Okay," I'm going to trust her that Quinn won't be an issue, feels like I'm setting myself up to be hurt, but aren't relationships pretty much about taking chances on people? "I'll strike Harley off the small list." She gave me a hopeful smile, but I cocked my head to the side, "My age?"
She looked offended that she had to justify it, "Can you even buy alcohol?"
"Yes."
"In America?"
"No."
"Can you grow a beard?" She asked suddenly.
"Depends." A half smile on my face.
"On?" She rolled her eyes.
"Do you want me to? Or is it a snipe at my apparent young age?" She hummed as she thought about it, her eyes squinted at me as they focused on my jaw, "I'm also being enrolled in a part-time college." I said to distract apparent deep thoughts.
Distracted it seemed, shuffling closer, "Really, what course?" Her legs give mine a soft kick as she got comfortable, spawling them across my lap.
"Bio-Chem."
I realised we've gotten derailed in our conversation, completely forgetting that the point of it, just being lost in the moment.
A pleased hummed escaped her, "Really?" She edges closer, till her lips were a breath away from my ear, "If you needed, I'm sure Professor Isley, would be happy to help." The thought of it and the husky voice ceased all rational thoughts as blood rushed south.
"Wouldn't it be doctor?" She just simply smirked as her thigh brushed against the bulge in my pants, "Fucking skinny jeans."
"Lose 'em." She said hungrily as she started to nip at me.
With them off and discarded on the floor, her jogger was quickly thrown on top of them. Pam mounting me, we were quick to forget the biggest hurdle in whatever relationship we pursued, that being we were still on opposite ends of crime fighting, just losing ourselves at the taste of each other.
Promises of regret and hurt were possibly be on the horizon, but damn it I just didn't care.
Fuck it, we'll do this as long as we can afford.
Happy Habor - A Day Later
The gorgeous blonde glanced at the clock, "Well seems like our time is up," She let out a happy sigh and focused her attention on me and away from her notes, I won't lie and say I wasn't curious to what she was writing, and I was half tempted to also tell to her to guard those well, in case Batman's breach of trust slipped and made it a mission to track them down, but she's know the man longer than me, so I could rely on her to know how to play the man in his games, "You seem… refreshed." Dinah said with a wry smile.
A small snorted laugh escape me, "I feel good. For a lack of better words." I shook my head a small smile on lips, something that has consistently been on my face since I've spoken with Pam, well spoken with wasn't really the right word. We spoke sure, but… "Yeah, I just feel less crappy I suppose."
Dinah gave me a bright smile, though there was a hint of worry lingering her bright blue eyes, "That's good. Really Ammon, I am happy that you've found this peace." She said with an almost knowing smile, "And I'm glad that you're making an effort with-"
"Yeah about that," I cut her off, "I'm sorry." I said honestly, "I'm sorry that I was making your job difficult, I know you have no real obligation to do these sessions with me, and yet you did even when I was dragging my feet."
"Dragging your feet and being withholding is hardly what I call being difficult, challenging perhaps," She shrugged, "but I've dealt with worse. I hope that's behind us and this new found forthcomingness is going to stick around."
She said as if I wasn't withholding info today, she didn't bring up One, if I had to guess, because it was still fresh and or because I was trying to be less of a twat and she didn't want me to retreat back to how I was before. And while I was more 'forthcomingness' her words, I wasn't willing to ever be a hundred percent honest with her.
A wry smile on my face I tilt my head to the side, "Is that a word, can you use made up words in these sessions?"
She let out a little chuckle at the deflection, not at all perturbed by it, "Are you going to tell anyone?" She cocked her head, mirth dancing in her eyes.
"No, ma'am." I grinned back while getting up, I glanced at the door and gave it a grimace, "You've got your work cut out for you today." I tried to withhold the anger I was feeling, not wanting to bring that stuff here. No all anger was pointed the wankers who were in charge of the team, not Dinah.
A decisive snort let loose, "It's my job."
"Black Canary. In and out of the suit, still wanting to help people huh?" I teased.
"All in a days work." She motioned for the door, "Could you send in Connor?"
"I mean he's outside, trying to listen in." I shrugged my shoulders, not all that mad at my tank-brother, trust issues and all, he was putting himself out of his comfort zone just by agreeing to the sessions.
But usually he greeted me with something akin to content, but there was a wiriness this time around, he seemed angry, angrier I should think, its Connor, anger was his default.
"Trying be the operative word there. Sound proofing was the top request I had when I was offered this role. Now…" She then impatiently shooed me away, a soft smile on her face all the while.
I walked out and motioned for Connor to go ahead, a curt nod was all I got from him. Heading on to find Tim, I reflected on the team and the base.
Things at the Happy Habor were tense when I walked in from the get go, didn't Kaldur suspect one of the team as a traitor? Wasn't it Roy, or something along the lines? Fucking hell my biggest regret in my old life was watching only some a episodes of a TV show.
It was a good show, but I couldn't always watch it, watching a show meant being at home, home was somewhere I wanted to escape at all times, it was where I went to sleep, and that's about it. My home away from home was a comic book store that got little foot traffic and had cliché grouchy owner with a heart of gold.
Still the tension wasn't related to a possible traitor, no, the crew were tense because of a training exercise that went wrong.
Who could've saw a telepathic exercise where the core of it was to hammer in failure and responding to said failure, going wrong? Who could've seen the highly emotional and powerful teleapath reacting poorly to the death of her team members and friends?
I was pissed when Tim told me what happened, when I briefly spoke to him before my session with Dinah. I was pissed during the whole session, it burning at the back of mind. And now the session was over I could bring it fourth, I aimed it at the ones who deserved it rightfully so.
"Fuck you all." I spat when I saw Batman, Billy Baston, and Martian Manhunter gathered around the team.
"What?" Billy said with wide eyes as I glared at the three of the supposed veteran superheroes. Billy was young, too young, and it irritated me beyond belief, they gave the kid way more trust than they did with the team that trained under the leading capes.
"I said fuck you all." I repeated with venom in my voice.
"Freak…" Tim uttered low but I ignored my friend in favour at glaring at our mentor.
"You fucking clowns are supposed to be the smart ones," Well more the martian and the billionaire, "and yet you thought that exercise was a good idea."
"It was a team building-" The manhunter tried to reason.
"You traumatised them, you fuckwits."
The groups leader walked over and tried to place a calming hand on my shoulder but I shook it off, "Freak we're okay for the most part." Kaldur tried to reason but his voice was so hollow, the rest of the team didn't dare look me in the eyes, sans Wally who seemed to be in denial about the whole thing.
"They understood what they were getting into." Batman justified and my blood ran hot with fury.
A small chortle escaped and it sounded wrong even to me, "I'm going to take up day drinking." I shrugged with indifference, the idea disgusted me but I didn't relent, "I know the risk, but fuck it, I'm going to do it anyway." Batman's eyes narrowed and his jaw tensed, "What, B? Got a problem. Its almost like you know that I shouldn't, right?" He didn't answer other than his body tensing. "Come on, B? Don't disappoint me. Tell me? Be the fucking responsible adult, the voice of reason."
"They understood." Billy said not understanding my point, "They knew the risk, and its pretty bad that you don't trust them."
"Kid," I gave him a flat look, "Shut your mouth."
"Hey!" The boy with the power of the gods and a king, roared as a petulant child, "I don't care who you are!? No one talks to me like…"
The demon half me roared out in my mind and for once I indulged it, the boy hero recoiled back as his eyes took in the shadowy half. Fear washed all over him… strange.
"Stand down." Batman ordered and I wasn't sure who he was talking to, the god or the demon.
I ignored it and turned my shadowy eyes on my mentor, "They would follow any order you and the League give." My voice was soft, the demon twang to it echoed in the silent room.
"Then they understand."
"What? That they're soldiers!?"
"No, goddamn it. No." Teeth gritted, I could see the pleading behind his cowl covered eyes, "They are the next us. And they need to be ready."
Have you ever told them that? No of course not. This wasn't just a Batman thing, the League as great as they are, they're clowns when it came to their charges.
"So, sink or swim, huh? That's the justification of screwing with them."
"Two." Tim called out to me.
"Making them watch as one of their own died."
"Freak!" Artemis voice reached out to me.
"Making them shoulder the weight of the world."
Raven suddenly appeared in a inky black portal, she took no notice of the others as she reached out to me, her hand placed on my chest and clutched at my heart, instantly I felt the soothing balm to the hot anger.
Blinking off the shadows, I spotted the team looking at me with akin to worry. Batson looked on the verge of pissing himself, and Batman and the Martian were tense, almost battle ready.
The shadows on the ground around me flickered, almost like static, and for a moment it felt alive, it felt angry. It felt good.
Raven gazed at me with complete understanding, the hand that clutched my heart moved up, grasping lightly my chin, she then ran a hand through my hair, pushing away the ever growing fringe, so her purple eyes met my red ones, "It's okay." She spoke so low only I heard her.
The understanding was grating, I pulled back and headed to the exit, "The problem with sink or swim." I said over my shoulder, "You swim, or you drown. I drowned. Don't let them."
"Two." Tim called out to me, but I wasn't willing to stick around, and headed to the parking lot where Baby was in a run. Though I did hear Raven tell him to give me some space, if there was anyone who could appreciate being left alone for a while it would be the fellow half demon.
Eastern Seaboard
I'm going to grab some stuff from the manor and then crash at Jay's for a while, I was tempted for a moment to head to Pam's, but I shot that idea down almost instantly, we were… whatever we were, we weren't there yet.
I just needed space from Bruce. I was in a weird headspace of guilty, happy, angry, and I just blew up and almost lost control of my demon half.
Damn, I should've stuck around and figured out how Raven knew she was needed, was it some sort of frequency that demon-kind could pick up. Because the idea of demon-kind tracking me down like that wasn't a pleasant thought.
Then again Mazikeen found me… And she was sure I could track her down if I needed to. Maybe I should find my forbearer, get a break from Gotham completely, if she was slumming it on earth she would be in LA if I remember right, with Lucifer… Boy that's a bad idea.
Shit, is Lucifer Morningstar my stepdad here?
I was brought out of my terrifying thoughts as an unfamiliar aircraft zoomed towards me, a colourful crew of beings riding the craft, all glared out at me, as I bade Baby to stop in front of them.
"Return the new genesis-sphere, and the rest of the technology you have stolen from New Genesis, human."
"I'm not in the mood for this shit. Move or be moved." I warned the crew but they weren't all that impressed.
"Let's keep this simple." A bulky guy with wild long auburn hair shouted over the tail-wind as he pointed at Baby, "That belongs to us. Give it back." He clenched a fist with a furious look on his face.
Baby revved and a series of beeps leaked out from the crew in front of me, their leader I'm assuming held a box like device up, "Forever People, stand down." The crew had all gotten up ready for a fight, but they heldback when heard their leaders words, "This one did not steal the new genesis-sphere. He saved it from the real thieves."
The auburn haired man looked sheepish as he grinned at me, "Apologies. The Forever People embrace you as a friend, ally and worthy warrior."
New Genesis, that's the heaven to the hell that is Apokolips.
A heaved sigh escaped me, "Baby if I asked you to drown me, would you?"
She let out a rev and I looked at the Forever People ipso leader, "She said no," His face scrunched up, "but she would gladly drown the red-headed witch of yours." He raised a hand up as if he wanted to back away from the situation, "Her words."
"Red hea… Okay I guess Pam was right and you don't like her."
Another rev.
"She does not." The man winced, "And she's got quite the colourful vocabulary now."
I avoided eye contact with them, "I have no idea where she learnt that from." I rubbed Baby's side begging her not to out me.
We flew through the air, they had explained there were here on a mission to retrieve tech from their world that somehow ended up on Earth, "We are the New Gods. The Forever People." The beefy auburn said.
And the one dressed like a cowboy of all things called out to me, "They call me Serifan."
The only girl motioned to herself, "I'm Dreamer. This is Moonrider and our leader, Vykin." She gestured to the rest of her team.
"Hm." The beefy one looked on with a thoughtful look, "I am named for an animal that does not exist on this world. But you may call me Wolf."
"I don't know if that would fit so well," I shrugged, what's up with the name Wolf, first Connor calls his new pet wolf, exactly that, and now this guy, "Wolves tend to be slender and agile. You seem tanky like a bear."
He didn't take any offence and simply grinned brightly, "Than Bear it is."
"The name's Freak." I said simply but they all glanced at each other but nonetheless didn't comment on it.
"This is Motherbox, the living computer." Vykin said as he lifted the box up which beeped in greeting, "She has tracked technology stolen from our home world, New Genesis." He looked down at the box, "And she has found our rescue drill there."
Their aircraft led us through the skyline of Metropolis. I wonder if the Big Blue Boy Scout would show his face considering two alien crafts just flew into his air space.
The Motherbox suddenly beeped, and the Forever People made their way towards a construction site, "It is beneath us, 18 meters underground."
"That's a construction site. That's conveniently next to the Federal Reserve." I looked at the Forever People, and explained, not quite sure if they had a currency system, "The government keeps money there." Wait do I have to explain money?
"It's a heist. Come on, partners." Serifan looked ecstatic, "Let's ride in there gun's ablazing and round up them outlaws."
"He's watched a lot of Earth Westerns." Dreamer said with embarrassment to her voice.
"Wait do you guys get TV signals on New Genesis?"
She lets out a hum, "Earth is fascinating, and a nexus point. A lot of eyes on it."
"Hold up." I pointed at the cowboy themed New God, "I don't want needless bodies piling up. Can you all hold off killing?" I really didn't want Superman wanting an explanation on why corpses piling up in his city.
"It's your world Freak." Vykin said as he nodded at his team, "We'll follow your lead."
I gave the team a nod and looked down below, three armed goons setting a perimeter around a large hole in the ground.
Angling Baby so I was over one of the goons, I rubbed a hand along her side, "Hold tight." I said aloud before slipping off her, falling down to the ground.
Hitting the ground with a brawny thud, I startled the goons, the nearest one reeled back in fright, falling to the floor. Taking the opportunity given, I slammed a foot against his head. Then seizing the gap between me and the next frightened goon, I struck an elbow across his jaw. The last goon shakenly got his gun trained on me however his movements too erratic to zero in on target. I rushed him, and a hand wrapped around his neck, lifting him off the ground.
"Talk while you can, before I decide to break your jaw." I could hear the anger in my voice seep through, I tried to rein it in, but damn it all I needed an outlet for all this pent-up frustration, and seeing how Pam isn't here, might as well beat up and threaten some nameless goons… I'm the picturesque of health.
"I'll talk, I swear!"
"Where did you get this gear?" My grip tightened for good measure.
"I don't know. I swear, I don't. The boss got it from some old creep."
"Don't lie to me!" I roared.
He let out a whimper, "I swear it on my mom's life. He was some alien or somethin'."
Dreamer placed a hand on my shoulder, "Freak he's telling the truth." She tired to eased me to drop the man, "He doesn't know anything substantial."
Tighten the grip on his neck I blocked his airway, only when his eyes fluttered, and he went slack I eased up and dropped his body.
Gazing at the hole I moved towards it, not all that bothered if the Forever People were following.
"Remind me not to get on the bad side of you, hos." Serifan tipped his hat.
Ignoring the cowboy, I leapt down the hole… and I also lamented on what my life has come to after thinking that.
A red light glowed at the end of the tunnel, illuminating the otherwise would be darkened cave.
A score of people geared up in red alien equipment, moving stacks of gold onto a large drilling machine.
"The old creep's gear performed as advertised." A gleeful exclamation escaped the gingered haired woman, and I had to wonder how stupid she was. If you're in Metropolis on a heist, how in the fuck would anyone think midway through is a good time to celebrate. To say the Man of Steel is a one-man army wasn't rhetorical, the man was a power house coupled with speed just below a speedster.
"Yeah, Whisper. Gave me a score tops any my old man ever delivered to Intergang."
Vykin stepped forward, announcing our presences.
"Dude, why would you give away our position?"
"That drill and these carts are the property of New Genesis." He ignored me, "You will return them now."
"And the gold."
"Interfere and things get ugly." The woman said.
A pale and beefy looking man he stepped forward, "I'm Ugly." He grinned.
"Tell me about it. I bet your momma couldn't even stare at you for long."
A glare promising murder was sent my way, the man's crew started to unload the alien weapons at us. All the while Ugly threw round disks at me. Not in the mood for a wait and see moment, I threw my batarange at them, throwing them off-course as they landed away from me.
"These weapons aren't from New Genesis. They are of the enemy."
"You couldn't tell the difference till now." I asked genuinely confused, how couldn't they tell between their tech and that of Apokolips till they're being attacked with them. They managed to track down Baby and lead us here after all. Must be something in the tech that is unique to both worlds.
"The confines of this tunnel favour their weapons." Dreamer exclaimed as she ducked into cover to avoid a hail of laser bolts. The girl rushed towards Bear, as the bigger man was holding a downed Moonrider.
"Get them out of here." Serifan told his team-mates.
"Vykin is pinned." Dreamer exclaimed.
"I got him." I told the girl and turned my attention to their trapped leader, "Go!" I didn't look back to check if half of the team had left as instructed. With my demon blade, I rushed towards Vykin and destroyed the Apokolips tech that was pinning him to the ground. In a quick movement I brought us both behind cover.
"Serifan covering fire." Vykin ordered, the cowboy didn't say anything but he did in fact peek out from his cover and went ham on the humans, easing the shots of alien gunfire heading our way, "Freak if I can get you an opening can you take them down?"
"Yeah." I told him simply with a nod, "The majority at least."
The leader of the Forever People let out a deep breath and then stood up with a hand extended. Instead of being hit with a hail of gunfire, the shots suddenly stopped or completely missed our position.
Taking that as my queue, I slipped behind the cover, and noticed that some of the guns were either completely on the floor or they had slipped the grasp of the goons.
Looks like Vykin had something akin to telekinesis, no he aimed it at the guns, a magnetic ability perhaps.
Didn't matter all that much the men weren't good shots, their numbers being on their side as well as the confines of the cave, but with guns fumbled from their holds, I rushed them. Their sharpshooting skills were on par with their hand to hand, meaning next to nothing.
As I dismantled the last goon, the lady called Whisper lashed a laser whip at me, catching it with my arm I let out a hiss as I wrapped it around the limb, bringing her closer to me as she tried to drag her feet.
"Ugly!"
The man had his own problems to deal with as Vykin and Serifan were on him.
Whisper tried to dislodge her hold on the whip but it was too late as she was in grabbing distance, with an hand wrapped around her neck, I slammed the mask plated forehead against her face. A gush of blood seeped out her nose, as she fell to the ground unconscious as I let her go.
I gave her body a nudge pushing it onto her side so she wouldn't drown on her own blood.
"Good work, friend Freak."
"Ah shoot partner, I'm glad you're on our side."
I gave the two a nod, and the scanned the area of any remaining conscious goons. The two Forever People recoiled back for a moment and I locked eyes with a creepy looking man appear as he came out a human-like looking shell.
"Desaad!"
The man started to cackle as a portal appeared behind him, "All will suffer. All will-"
Yanking my bat-claw, I snapshot it at the man, and dragged him back and away from the portal, a one fluid movement, I hit the overpowered-pull feature of the claw and felt my body rip me through the air, slamming a boot against the man's head at blazing speeds.
"Why the fuck was he gloating?" I asked the two shell-shocked Forever People, "Taking him down was a good thing right?" Who knows with the Apokolips, New Genesis politics?
We watched as the local police force were hauling the Intergang, as they called themselves. The man known to the Forever People Desaad, was securely restrained to their aircraft and placed under an illusion courtesy of Dreamer.
The fight did bring the attention of Big Blue. Who was thankful to me and the Forever People, he even greeted me with a knowing smile and a handshake.
Though I was reluctant to play nice with the man right now because of the Leagues actions against the team, but I wasn't ashamed to admit I was a bit starstruck at meeting him in person for the first time, this was fricken' Superman.
"So can we expect any more tech falling into human hands?" Superman asked the Forever People.
Vykin shook his head, "No, the cache in the warehouse district has already been collected, apart from there, here and Sphere, that should be it." He nodded at Baby, "We apologise for the problems that have been caused by it all."
"Its hardly your fault," Superman gave them a kind smile, and Dreamer looked away blushing up a storm. I rolled my eyes behind my mask and the man let out a chuckle as he caught on the action.
Vykin turned to me, "Freak it was an honour to fight alongside you," I gave the leader a nod.
"You too, bud. If you guys ever find yourselves on Earth again, look me up." The image of Batman gritting his teeth in anger as a crew of aliens flying around Gotham was a good one.
"Now for Sphere." He said suddenly, and I stood in his way.
"Yeahhh. No." I placed a hand on Baby, "She and I are a team."
Baby revved and I knew it was in agreement as Vykin looked at the Motherbox in his hand, a smile appearing on his face.
"So, it seems. Who would I be to break such a partnership? Though perhaps she should watch her language, quite crude." He said with a pointed smile.
"I'll speak to her about that." I said, having no intention of berating her, glass houses and all that.
With not much else keeping the Forever People here, they took flight and opened a portal, leaving earth with the tech and prisoner from Apokolips.
Mounting Baby I turned my attention to Superman who watching me while also keeping his attention on the Intergang.
"Not that its my business, but maybe you should reach out to Superboy." He shifted uncomfortably for a moment, "He's a little lost on, for all intents and purposes an alien world, something you could relate to." Sort of at least, Superman the most human hero there was, except he wasn't, he's the idealised version humanity pretends to be, a man who was the strongest thing around and he was raised to be good and self restrained to a mind boggling degree.
He looked like he was mulling my words over in his mind, but I wasn't interested in discussing this with the man.
I shrugged my shoulders, revving Baby up and taking flight, "Like I said, its not my business. See'ya around."

Yo, thanks all for the support.
Just to clarify that Ammon's anger is about the 'Failsafe' episode but his anger blew up and he projected his anger about the benching thing also. Not trying to bash anyone here, but Ammon is angry and not thinking rationally, coupled with the League and Batman's poor choices, he's in the mood to call them out on it. Doesn't mean completely in the right or wrong, just as the League and Batman.
