RTR: Kitty-sketch: Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy the story. :D

December394: That's okay, I respect your opinion I guess. I know this sounds biased, but personally, I don't think Meta Knight is usually that "tough" to begin with. Assertive at times? Yes. But not like pushing Kirby to his limit. I do see how this could've been executed better, though. I'm just writing in my usual style.

This chapter focuses more on Sailor Dee and her past, though this story is about a specific character's journey, I wanted to add a bit more depth to the story and give a backstory to a different character. :)

"So...is he up at all yet?" she asked anxiously for the third time that day,

Kirby peeked into Meta Knight's room, only to see he was still fast asleep.

"Nuh-uh" Kirby replied.

Sailor Dee sighed, she knew she just had to face it, he was probably hibernating, and she was on her own. It was the next day, half past six P.M, the knight had slept through pretty much the whole day. Part of her found that to be incredible, his ability to hibernate must've been back, right? It seemed to just happen in the blink of an eye! But another part of her said much otherwise, she wasn't used to not talking to Meta Knight. She was used hearing his silent chuckles whenever she made a funny quip, and the consolation he would give in the times anxiety and melancholy overruled her.

Sure, maybe there was an exception when he went on adventures would she have to bare through the day, but she knew from experience and trusted that he'd always come home. Meta Knight was like family to her, a father figure of sorts. By very unfortunate circumstances, he was the only piece of her past she had left. She felt like she had no time to prepare herself for this, it just happened so suddenly. If she had known better, she would've stayed as long as she could with him, savoring every moment like there was no tomorrow. She wasn't ready to let go, especially considering that she would probably go years without seeing him. She promised that she would make her commander proud and keep the apartment safe like asked, but what was she to do if someone did try to hurt her? She felt powerless. There were so many things stressing her all at once that she was just ready to start screaming and crying. But despite being notably anxious, she knew how to keep it together in a tough situation.

Occasionally, but not today.

What was she to do now that she was really on her own again? Sailor Dee, holding back warm tears got up from the couch and headed towards the door. Kirby came from out of the hallway into the living room, which triggered Sailor Dee to put on her "happy mask". She put all problems of hers aside for the moment because she knew Kirby didn't deserve even a little bit of the sadness she was feeling.

"H-hey, Kirby! I'm just going out for a few." Sailor said softly, trying to stop her pseudo happy tone from faltering, "When I come back, I'm going to get ready to take you home, okay?"

"Nooooooooo!" Kirby whined, "Kaabii want staaaaaaay!"

"Kirby, we've gotta let Meta get his rest, alright?" She hesitated, "It's...It's necessary..."

"Lesson!"

"I think you've trained him well enough," Sailor Dee said, tensing up, "He's fast asleep, and probably will be for a very long time..."

Kirby tilted his head in confusion.

Sailor Dee sighed, "Don't worry about that. I should be thanking you for all you've contributed to help Meta, though. You're such a doll."

Kirby, lacking another protest, nodded and smiled back. He didn't know why Sailor called him a doll, because last time he checked he didn't have stitches and button eyes, but he could only take it as a compliment. But that aside, he was confused by her weird clash of emotion. Her bright, smiling eyes said she was happy, but the tears that formed in them implied something else. It seemed almost as if her own amygdala was confused as to what emotion she was feeling inside too, the look she put on seemed so genuine.

"See ya in a bit."

"Poyo―" she turned her back and left out the door before he could finish. Kirby could feel something was wrong, she wasn't going to be okay.

She paced the castle hallways and suddenly came to a halt, she put her paws over her eyes and slowly leaned against the cold stone wall and slid down slowly until she neared the bottom and plopped down. That's when she finally "took off" her happy mask and burst into tears. The advice that was given to her during her time on the Halberd echoed in her head, "Crying won't fix anything, it'll only waste time.", but at the moment, that's exactly what she wanted to do.

Her mind flashed back to what happened to her family, it was five years ago, two days after she left for her crusade on the Halberd, a huge wildfire had started in her village, it burned down every house and tree and took her family with it. It wasn't until three days after the destruction of the ship she found out. She was only supposed to be staying at Meta Knight's apartment in the castle for a week to take some time to breathe and suppress some of the trauma from losing the crew, the ship. Sailor Dee wanted to go home, she asked many times during the nights she stayed if he could fly her home early, but Meta Knight insisted she stayed and rest. He didn't want to tell her that he sensed something bad had happened there.

She was still so young, only beginning her adolescence, yet, when they'd talk, he heard and noted the soft, suffering tone of her voice, and knew she must have been through something bad. She'd tend to mention that she lost a lot of family to stupid things growing up, two of her older siblings ran away at midnight, never to be seen again, her mother never showed much attention to her or any of her remaining siblings after their toddler stage, one day she left her at home, and she never came back either, except, they found her lifeless body a few days afterward, at least. So, they were forced by Dream Kingdom law to live with their aunt in a tiny village southward of where they already resided. She didn't go further with her story, even though Meta Knight asked her to, wanting to know more about her. He wanted to know how she could go through something that seemed like hell and still be such a compassionate, happy girl. She giggled a little, but for some reason, it sounded off. It didn't sound forced at all, but at the same time, it carried the same quietly suffering tone she had when she was speaking.

Her eyes twinkled, and so did small, almost unnoticeable tears coming from her eyes, she finally replied, "Because, I sure don't want to become like my mom, am I right?" the tone she said this in was like the opposite of a deadpan; she said this in a humorous tone, but Meta Knight could look straight into her joyous-seeming eyes and tell she was dead serious.

Long story short, when the time finally did come to take her home, there was no home for her to return to. It was all gone. The land with the vibrant green grass was now but gray ash. Words couldn't explain the sorrow Meta Knight felt for her. He knew exactly how she felt, one of the only lands you've known for years, now gone forever, along with her aunt and four other siblings. He was ready to console her, waiting to hear her start crying. But instead, she was...laughing? Wait, no, she was crying...hold on, no...she was...crying and laughing...?

Her eyes smiled, but warm tears trickled down her face.

One paw was excitedly flapping, the other was idly quivering.

This made Meta Knight extremely confused, after a minute, he cautiously asked, "Are you...feeling alright?"

Sailor Dee immediately responded, "Never better!" followed by a giggle.

At first, he wasn't sure if it was an underlying emotional issue, or if it was because she really wasn't sure how she felt, he just knew he wanted to fix it. This was a pain he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy. He knew how fate liked to corrupt the innocent. She didn't deserve this, and he swore that he'd help her through it somehow. And he finally did get the answer to his question after a while, because after she got past the laughing-crying fit, one emotion shone very clearly, and that emotion was definitely, without a doubt, trauma. She assumed this meant that she was going to get put in an orphanage now, she asked him to take her back to her original homeland and offered to provide directions, but Meta Knight gave one answer, "I don't think I'll be needing them."

"Are you sure?"

"Oh, very."

He instead flew back to his room in the castle, she had fallen asleep on the ride, so she was a bit confused when she woke up, wrapped in a blanket in his living room.

"Commander Meta Knight?" she said groggily, "Are you here?"

Meta Knight's quietly walked into the living room, his eyes shining blue. "Ah, you're awake, I see."

"Why am I here?"

Meta Knight chuckled, "Because this is your new home now."

"You're adopting me?!" Sailor exclaimed as her eyes widened.

"No, no, not quite." Meta Knight said, "Respectively, we're roommates now, while I will be expecting your contribution to keeping things in order, you are not expected to pay for any of the costs."

"Y-you don't have to do this, y know..." Sailor softly stated, "W-what do I say...I-I can't believe..."

"I would never leave a comrade behind," Meta Knight smiled, "Don't worry though, I have a feeling that you and me...we are going to get along like we always have, if not even better."

Sailor was snapped out of her memories when someone started speaking to her, "H-hey there, are you okay...?"

She sniffed and looked up to see who it was, the tears were blurring her vision, so she wiped them off. Once her vision was cleared again, she saw it was another Waddle Dee with a blue bandana and holding a spear in his paw. She swore he looked vaguely familiar, but she wasn't sure who it was.

"Hi there, I-I'm fine..." she said, trying to smile, "Have we met before?'

"Don't think so." he replied, "I'm one of the king's most loyal servant—and friend—Bandana Dee!"

After that, she finally recognized who he was. She had seen him very few times in the past before, and once waved hello, but this would be the first time she's ever interacted with him before.

"Oh, yeah! I think I've heard about you!" she said, "I'm Koko, but most people call me Sailor Dee, feel free to call me either, though...!"

"I like your nickname a wee bit more," Bandana Dee perked his voice, "It's cute. Little Sailor Dee sailing the seas.~"

He sat down beside her and scooted a little closer to her.

"Well, not the seas, more like on an airship cutting through the air!" she giggled,

Bandana Dee's eyes widened, "Whoaaaa, that's sick! You own an airship?!"

"Not me, exactly, but my commander used to have one!"

"Oh, well, still, that's pretty sweet if you ask me. If you mind me asking, who was your commander?"

Sailor hesitated for a moment, not knowing how he'd feel about Meta Knight, but she could only tell the truth.

"Well, his name's...Meta Knight he―"

"No way!" Bandana marveled, "You're friends with the greatest swordsman, like, ever?! I used to be friends with him, but we sort of drifted apart, But what's he like now? Is he as mean, scary, and heartless as my friends say he is?! And actually, before we were friends, didn't he lead that big, failed power trip to make us―"

"He's not heartless," Sailor reprimanded, raising her voice, "he was just a little misunderstood."

she continued, "And besides, I still live with him today. He's super chill if you don't mess with him too much, trust me."

"Well, now that I reflect on it...I think I went on an adventure with him once!"

"Really?"

"Yeah! Me, King Dedede, him, and Kirby!"

"Wow, must have been fun!" she beamed,

"It was! You should've been there! There was this egg-looking dude who's ship crashed into here, we helped him twice, and he turned out to be evil!"

"Whoa, that sounds...kind of funny, actually." she snickered, "Would an evil egg just be a deviled egg?"

Bandana Dee laughed, "I wish I would've come up with that one, that was good!"

Sailor felt a sharp shock, but she cleared her throat "Y-yeah..."

"But honestly, it kinda was though, like, imagine this weirdly-formed chocolate Easter egg in a full-body robe with yellow eyes and floaty hands, I swear, I told it to Kirby when we got outside the ship, and we were laughing for days!"

"Days?"

"Metaphorically." Bandana corrected, "I'm sure Dedede would've snatched our mouths right off if we laughed for too long. Either that, or we'd die of laughter before he did!"

"Laughter sounds like the best kind of way to pass on, to be honest." Sailor Dee deadpanned, "Everyone could use a laugh or two every once in a while!"

"I agree!" Bandana Dee nodded, "And y'know what, I'm glad I helped to make you laugh too."

Sailor Dee blushed, "I totally appreciate it, d-dude!"

Bandana Dee got up and prepared to head off, "Welp, I gotta get going, but I guess I'll see you around later, right?"

"Totally!" Sailor smiled, "It was nice meeting you, you know, for real!"

"You too!" he replied, he dashed down the hallway, and the sound of his footsteps quickly faded.

She liked him. Albeit being pretty chatty, he had a good sense of humor, an outgoing attitude, and a charming personality. He was suave like Meta Knight was, except, his cool was sort of different. He expressed it openly. She was definitely looking forward to getting to know him in the long run. She was surprised they hadn't met sooner, but she assumed she was so busy with housework and running errands all the time that she never really talked to anyone outside of the apartment. She felt the pensive feeling of sadness fade away, all the pain was relieved for the moment. She had one more thing she wanted to do before she went back inside. So her pity party was officially over, she got up and went down the curved hall.

To be continued in Chapter 7! I worked super hard to get this part out, it took me, like, weeks because I had all these assignments to do in school and I was busy with other things on the weekends! I'll try to have a more consistent upload schedule from here on out!

...Note: I said TRY. XD
