Summary: A secret kept by Lucy's mother is about to change everything she knows about herself and her family...
Notes: A Thunderbirds story that isn't in with the odds and ends? There is a reason for that because I plan for this to have at least five parts, updates are going to be made when my Pachinko brain can focus long enough to get a chapter together.
Family Secrets
It was no secret to Lucille Evans Tracy, that her parents had little to no love for her, to them she was nothing more than a trophy that her parents wheeled out for their friends and her 'father's' family for appearances sake.
In fact after her golden child younger brother had been born, most of her childhood had been spent ether in boarding schools or at her aunt and uncle's ranch, who gave her better love and care than her own parents did, with the only exceptions being the appearances she had to make to appease her father's family…
Her parents were quite happy to ignore her otherwise, the only school event they turned up to was her high school graduation, and that was only because she was the valedictorian, to which they took all the credit, like they were the one responsible for her success, and were quite put out when she only mentioned her aunt and uncle in her speech.
They were livid when they found out that she had ditched her original last name of Houseman for her uncle's the first chance she got, not that they actually realised that she had changed her name until it was announced that she was marring Jeff Tracy.
That caused its own amount of drama, especially when her parents also were told that they were only going to be attending the wedding as guests and her aunt and uncle were the ones that were going to play the role of parents of the bride, it wasn't until Jeff snapped at them that they were lucky to even get an invitation, considering the way that treated their daughter over the years that they backed off.
When Scott was born, they didn't even meet him until he was nearly a year old… and when Lucy's egg donor tried to hold him, he cut the meeting short when he threw up on her.
It was a similar situation when they met Virgil, only this time three year old Scott kicked his 'Grandmother' in the shins saying Virgie didn't like her, when Virgil refused to settle in her arms.
But nothing prepared Lucy for the fallout that came with John's brith…
When John came into the world, his red hair and blue eye's caught everyone off guard, red hair was not a trait in Jeff's family, nor was it one in the maternal side of Lucy's family and no one in the family had eyes coloured in that shade of blue.
In fact if it wasn't for the compulsory DNA testing at birth, confirming that Jeff was indeed John's father, you couldn't be blamed for thinking Lucy made off with one of the farm hands - except none of them had that red hair blue eyed combo.
The problem that Lucy's parents had with John started when they heard that was the name she and Jeff had chosen for their third child, and they demanded that she change it, regardless of the fact John was already two months old when they first heard his name and that they hadn't had any input with the names of Scott or Virgil.
When Lucy was pregnant with Scott, and she and Jeff were discussing baby names, it had been decided that any boys that they had together would be named after the pioneers of space travel and any daughters after the women that had major influence in the advancement of communications and intelligence.
And she always ran the names past her baby's before confirming it on their birth certificates, to check to see if the name suited - Virgil was a good example of this, while not the first pick when it came to naming her second born it was the only name that suited him.
As soon as her third born son was placed in her arms, she knew his name would be John - it was as if some other worldly force was insisting on it.
So Lucy's parents intense hatred of the name caught her by surprise, even her aunt, her mother's sister, couldn't give an answer to why her parents hated the name.
It got to the point to where Jeff had to tell her parents to give a legitimate reason why John's name should be changed or back off.
Well it appeared Lucy's parents took offence to that, and it was two years before her parents would even meet John for the first and only time, because after that meeting the entire Tracy family would end up going no contact with the Houseman's…
Notes: So, when it came to my Thunderbirds stories I had three different main storyline's in mind, Odds and Ends - which is the base story, all of the other storylines spin off from it, Captain Mahogany - the crossover storyline with Captain Scarlet, and Lu - An au storyline that this story is a set up to, but this story works in the main storyline as well.
