My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Trouble Between Worlds – Race Across Galaxies
Disclaimer – This is a slight continuation of my first story, so I would suggest reading that first. I wasn't sure if it was good enough. After the war, things pretty much went like in the show with the boys in the background and this story happens in between when Twilight becomes a princess and the Cutie Map is first introduced. I don't own any of the MLP characters, only my OC's.
Chapter 1 – Wander Princess, Wander
His head was full of music, a song for every second he was alive. Galaxy Blade, a grey pegasus with a spiky black mane and nicely groomed mid-length tail strode through Ponyville as he made his way towards a lone house near the thick dark forest behind the village. His special friend Fluttershy lived there, a yellow pegasus with long light pink hair for her mane and tail. He tried to banish the songs from his mind, the scowl permanently on his face, though not for lack of trying. It had softened as of late, thanks to Fluttershy getting him to practice smiling, though the muscles in his face wouldn't allow for a full smile. The songs were interrupted only when he heard a familiar voice from behind him, "Going back to your Special Somepony?" a raspy female voice asked.
He turned to see the very pegasus he knew the voice belonged to, a bright blue female with a rainbow mane and tail in what looked like an unkempt style that had recently been combed by the wind as she flew. He didn't even let his soft scowl fall, this pegasus was one of his best friends, and very special to his brother. "Hello Rainbow Dash." was all he said as he turned back around.
"Are you going for some 'alone time'?" Rainbow teased the grey male.
"Are you asking because you want to tease me or because you want to know how much 'alone time' you're going to have with Breeze today?" he asked cheekily.
Instantly Rainbow Dash turned to him with a blush that turned even the fur on her head a red color, only to fly into what she thought was a large thin rock, "Ow!" she said as she picked herself up, "What the…" as she looked to the offending object, she noticed that it wasn't what she thought, instead it was a tall sparkling light blue alicorn with a golden branch crown upon her head, pulling her silver moonlight mane into a whisp behind her, "Princess Riida?"
"And Spiral Chain!" a proud voice called from behind the alicorn. There stood a rusty brown colored mare earth pony with a marigold mane and tail, the mane pulled to one side and a single cowlick poking up from the far side, "How is everypony?"
"What do you have there?" Blade asked as he spotted the large burlap sack neatly tucked into a small red wagon hooked to Spiral Chain's hip harness.
"Oh, just some scrounge from a few of the wreckages from the Genesis Ark." Riida said as she turned to the sack, "I was hoping you could perhaps repair a few things for us."
"We were hoping to put together a secret tech base and run the entire thing by magic!" Spiral announced.
"A base?" Rainbow asked.
"For what?" Blade added in.
"As a defense against other more hostile would-be invaders." the alicorn said in response.
"I would rather rebuild the Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 than rebuild any weapons of mass destruction." Blade quickly said, and his once soft scowl instantly fell into an angry growl.
With a chuckle, Riida calmed him, "I wouldn't dream of asking you to." she said, and his anger faded into curiosity. "You see, these are sensors, detection devices that I will place into space so that we may detect invaders before they can arrive. I will of course persuade them to turn around and not disturb this wonderful world, hopefully non-violently."
Blade stood there studying the two, and Rainbow Dash stood by, waiting to see what the boy would say in response, "Ok, let me see what you got." he said, and moved toward them, "But if I see even a hint of a weapon I'm turning you both over to Princess Celestia!"
Riida and Spiral Chain chuckled a bit, "I wouldn't have it any other way." Riida said and turned to the bag as Blade reached her.
"Oh, I have to see this." Rainbow Dash said excitedly, "We never got a good look at the stuff the Genesis Ark really had to offer."
It took some digging through the bag, but Blade was satisfied, there had been nothing to alarm him of any treachery, "Cool!" he heard Rainbow Dash say, and turned his head, she was fiddling with a small box that bulged at one end and bent at the other, small bits of blue paint still remained, but he could easily recognize it. "What does this do?" she asked and turned it around.
"I can't believe that's still in one piece!" he said as he took the device in his hooves.
"That is a really old transmitter!" Spiral Chain commented.
"Yeah, I thought these things were all destroyed, but this…" he replied and turned in in his hooves, "I think this was one of my brother's. He loved collecting old junk when he was a kid, he always asked me if I would fix the things he had found in the garbage bins around our living district, this was before they switched to the instant teleportal waste disposal system."
"Cool!" Rainbow said and looked to the front of it over Blade's shoulder, "It's broken!"
It was true, the screen on the front had been cracked so badly, it seemed as if it was nothing but white chips that were taped together. "I can make a new one, as long as it's just the front screen that's broken, if the inner screen breaks, it's toast without a replacement."
"Can you fix it, I kinda want to give it back to Breeze." Rainbow asked.
"Ooh, wooing your special Somepony for a special date this coming Hearts and Hooves Day?" Spiral Chain teased.
Rainbow's face and ears instantly lit up with a red blush, "Sh…shut up!" she stuttered out as she tried not to look embarrassed.
Blade on the other hoof turned the device around, tapping the back of it with a curious vigor. "What curiosity compels you this day?" Riida asked.
He moved only his eyes in a sort of annoyed confusion, "You've been taking lessons in speech from Princess Luna, haven't you?" he asked and tapped once more, the back of the device popping off and falling to the grass below. He turned his eyes back to his endeavor and eyed the small tube set into the back, "Well, the battery's shot. I might be able to reconfigure it to work with magic but…"
"PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!?" he heard Rainbow Dash ask from behind him. He turned to see her nearly in his face with a pleading look, "It's really important!"
He blinked and blinked again. He had never seen her look this desperate. "Am I missing something?" he asked as he let his eyes go wide with surprise.
Rainbow Dash backed up a bit and used one of her hooves to rub the back of her head in embarrassment, "Well, Breeze has been saying he's a bit homesick recently, and I was hoping something from the Genesis Ark would help him a bit." she admitted.
Blade smiled as much as his face would let him, "Homesick huh?" he asked, "Sure I'll see what I can do."
"YES!" the rainbow mare shouted as she lept into the air and stayed aloft using her wings.
"But no promises, like I said if the inner screen is damaged there's no replacing it with the technology of this planet. And I'm almost sure this one is the last of its kind."
"Wait, it basically fell from orbit, aren't you afraid of anything else being damaged?" Spiral Chain suddenly asked.
"This thing was made even before I was born, they used some of the most durable parts in existence. The stuff made today would have broken if you sneezed on it but back then, it could take a tank shell." the boy reiterated.
"Really?" the mare asked as she turned to her mentor.
Riida blushed a bit in a small shame, "It ended up being cheaper that way."
Blade and Rainbow Dash both chuckled a bit, "They don't make things like they used to!" he said. All Riida could do was chuckle with them in return.
