This all belongs to wonderful Ms. J. K. Rowling. All I own is this storyline I made. Maybe I'll be like her one day. Probably not, but I can dream.
James Potter liked to think he was a pretty normal guy. He had a job, a wife, a son, and so on. The only thing is, he is far from normal. You see, James was a wizard. He cast spells, wore robes, and his personal favorite, played quidditch. His wife, Lily Potter, was a lot in the same. Well, except for the quidditch. Both Lily and James went to the school, Hogwarts, where the learned how to not only control, but also hone their magic. That's where they met. The only problem. James was a complete jerk, while Lily was a perfect, straight A (or should I say O) student. While James and his group, The Marauders, played pranks and bullied Slytherins in their free time, Lily did homework, studied, etc. The Marauders were a group of four who were known around the entire school for their pranks. This group consisted of James Potter, the leader. Sirius Black, the right hand man and the idea maker of the group. Remus Lupin, the brains of the operation and also the most behaved of the group. And finally, Peter Pettigrew, the bait. He also was the one who lacked of the group. While James, Sirius, and Remus were smart, handsome, and cool, Peter was Pretty ugly, not very intelligent and always following the other three around. He somehow shimmied into the fourth spot, don't know how and don't know why. These four were the best of friends and made some remarkable achievements.
James liked to think it was love at first sight. The first time James set an eye on Lily, he knew he wouldn't be able to be with any one else. So James spent six years running after Lily. He asked her out hundreds of times before she finally said yes. That happened seventh year. For six years James had acted like a child, but over the summer between sixth and seventh year, he matured, and Lily noticed. It took a little bit, because Lily still saw him as a attention seeking jerk at first. But over time, she fell for him. Oh, and did I mention James was really hot. To the point where he could ask almost anyone, and they would say yes (girls that is). But, back to where we were. Lily and James were together most of seventh year. They got married soon after they left school. They were perfect for each other. James was funny and kept Lily's life interesting, while Lily made sure James didn't go to far out of line. They had a son about a year later, and named him Harry. If you saw this family of three walking past you, you would think, wow, those are some ordinary people.
As Harry grew up, a threat who had been the main bad guy when they were in school, Voldemort, became more and more powerful to the point where Dumbledore (Uber powerful wizard, defeater of Grindelwald, discoverer of the twelve uses of dragons blood, and Hogwarts headmaster) created a secret organization called, The Order of the Phoenix, to try and stop him. Eventually, the Potters had to go into hiding because of Voldemort and a prophecy. It was October 31, 1981, when disaster struck. You see, the potters used what is called the Fidelius Charm to hide away from the world. The way this charm works is, a set area is hidden from all view and tracking methods, except those who have the secret. The secret can only be given from the secret keeper, who is appointed when the charm is done. The only problem is, the Potters made a mistake. At first, they were going to pick Sirius as secret keeper. But why me, Sirius would say. I'm so obvious, I am your brother in all but blood. Everyone will suspect me. So in the end, they decided they would choose Peter as secret keeper. I mean, who would suspect little old Peter Pettigrew, the follower. This was a horrible mistake...
October 31, 1981
Lily, James, and Harry Potter were all sitting in the dining room of the Potter cottage in Godrics Hallow. There was a huge thunder storm outside and it was pounding down rain. They were eating dinner while listening to the wizard wireless. James looked out the window and swore he saw a figure in black robes in the shadows of a house down the road, but as soon as it was there, it was gone. Thinking he was seeing things, he turned back to his food. A few minutes later, he looked back outside right as thunder struck near by. This time, he knew he saw someone. And he was advancing towards their house.
"Hey, Lily, do you know who that is?" James asked his wife.
Lily looked at him, then out the window right as another bolt of lightning struck. The figure was just close enough for the lightning to light up the figures face under his hood.
They both knew who it was immediately. Voldemort.
They both sprang to action. They grabbed their wands and Harry, and ran upstairs. Lily locked the door with the strongest locking charm she knew and James helped her barricade the door. Suddenly, there was a bang downstairs, and a deep, malicious voice, with a small tint of excitedness. Like the sound a child would have in a candy shop.
He said, "Come out, come out, wherever you are. I just want the child, and you two can live. You won't be able to hide forever."
"Like that'll happen," James whispered. Lily would've laughed if it hadn't been for the serious situation.
Loud footsteps were heard coming up the stairs. "I know your here, I just want to talk."
Now, while all of this was happening, Lily was busy making a portkey. Eventually, she was ready, and whispered "Portus." She yelled at James to grab Harry and touch the portkey. He did as he was told insanely fast. It could've been that his adrenaline was higher than it ever had been, or maybe it was from all of the quidditch training he has. Either way, Lily didn't care. When they all touched it, they felt a tug at their navel, and then they were gone. Voldemort Blasted the door open, and what he saw made him yell in outrage. Lily, James, and most importantly, Harry Potter were gone.
When the Potters landed, they found themselves at Hogwarts, just outside they barrier. They knew they needed to move fast, so they ran as fast as they could inside the barrier of Hogwarts and through the grounds. They past Hagrid, the gamekeeper of Hogwarts, but he didn't have time to question them, because they were gone before he could talk. They ran through the front doors into the entrance hall. They didn't have time to look around the place they used to call home, so they just kept running until they got to the doors of the great hall. When they got there they opened them and ran through into a hall filled with students enjoying the Halloween feast. As soon as they entered, Dumbledore stood up from his seat at the head table.
"Voldemort. Godrics Hallow. Hurry." James panted
Dumbledore disapparated on the spot.
"How does he do that? It says it's not posable in Hogwarts: A History?" Lily questioned.
"Of coarse you would know that." James stated in exasperation. McGonagall chuckled at that, a strange but welcome noise.
After Dumbledore left, people started whispering amongst themselves.
"Silence," Professor McGonagall, the transfiguration teacher, said, with the Sonorous Charm on her. "Prefects, lead the students back to their dormitories. Thank you." She said in a tired voice.
The Potters slowly walked up to their old teacher, still a little tired from the run. When they got there, McGonagall gave them a small, sad smile, that probably meant, I'm sorry what happened, but happy your alright. "You look tired, maybe some wat..." At that moment, the great hall doors smashed opened for the second time that day. Everyone had their wands pointed at whoever was going to walk in, except Lily, since she was holding Harry, who was crying at this point, a thing she hadn't noticed until now. When everyone noticed it was just Hagrid, they put their wands down and Lily started rocking Harry until he stopped.
"Lily, James, I came as fast as I could. What happened?" Hagrid panted in his booming voice that filled the entire room. "You just ran past me to fast for me to be able to say hi. When that happened, I knew their was something wrong and came quickly." He seemed very tired, probably because he was almost two times the size of a regular human, and just ran the entire Hogwarts grounds and then some.
"Don't worry, were ok now, Dumbledore's on it." Lily said in a soothing voice. That made Hagrid relax a little. "So, you mentioned some water?" James asked.
"Oh, yes, I almost forgot." The wise transfiguration teacher grabbed two goblets and filled them with water, which she handed out to each adult Potter respectively. "Now, why don't you tell us what happened." She said to them. So they went on to tell the teachers, plus Hagrid, their tale of how they survived an almost death experience with Voldemort. At the end some were crying, while others were staring in shock, and professor sprout even fainted when they talked about him blowing off their door and what he said. There was a long silence until a crack broke through the hall. Standing there, was nonother than Albus Dumbledore, looking very ashen faced.
"Hello everyone." Dumbledore said to the group in a sad voice.
Albus Dumbledore landed with a thump at the end of the street which Potter cottage lay. When he saw the house, he became very tired. He hoped beyond hope that this wasn't real and Voldemort didn't attack. The house was in shambles, and some of it was still on fire. He walked over and checked the house. What he found saddened him even more. Voldemort was gone. "Where are you Tom." He whispered to himself. Then it hit him. As quickly as possible, he Apparated to the Longbottom household. When he got there, he saw what looked like smoke rise up over the broken roof, and fly in a different direction. He decided to think about that later and go and investigate right now. When he walked in what used to be a front door, he saw Frank Longbottom laying on the ground, dead as a doornail. He walked upstairs and heard a faint noise of crying. That gave him hope. He walked in the direction of the noise until he reached a door marked NEVILLE. He opened the door and saw the dead body of Alice Longbottom. Then he saw him. Neville was crying in a crib while reaching toward his mother. That sight made Dumbledore's eyes cloud up, but he only let out a single tear. That's when he noticed the bloody scar he saw on his forehead. It was the shape of Lightning. The same movement you make when casting the killing curse... He hastily walked over to the crib and picked Neville up, and then lulled him to sleep. After, he walked back outside, turned around one more time and said his last goodbye to Frank and Alice Longbottom, then apparated.
Dumbledore showed up in front of the household of the elder Longbottom. He had a letter with him at all times incase this happened. He walked up, placed the sleeping baby down with the letter and said, "Good luck, Neville Longbottom." Then he disapparated. When he landed, he was sanding in front of the teacher body, half crying half shocked, an unconscious professor Sprout, Hagrid, and the Potter family. He guessed they told them the story.
"Hello everyone. I have some sad news to announce. I checked the Potter cottage, but it was empty. Then it hit me where Voldemort probably was, The Longbottom household."
Lily and James immediately started crying as they knew what that meant.
"When I checked their house, it was in shambles, and Alice and Frank were dead. But I also found young Neville, and he was alive and in good health accept for the lightning shaped scar on his head. I left him with his grandmother as of now."
At this point almost everyone was in tears, all except Dumbledore and Snape, and a few others maybe who didn't know them as well. Hagrid was balling his eyes out. After a while, people started to calm down enough to stop crying. Suddenly, Madame Pomphrey exclaimed, "wait, if Frank and Alice died, why didn't Neville." Everyone, except Dumbledore and Snape, looked at her in shock. They hadn't thought of that. Everyone then looked to Dumbledore.
"I do not no as of yet, but when I do, I will tell you." He said to the group. "Now, I expect you all are tired after tonight, and the Potters will go to the hospital wing to be checked just in case. Madame Pomphrey snapped from her state of sadness and shock, and started hastily moving towards the doors.
"Well come on all of you, I need to do a thorough checkup on you." She said behind her.
After that day, Neville was known around the world as the boy who lived. He was famous. And since his guardian is magical... well, let's just say, that fame crowded his brain and he became a little over the head if you get my drift. Harry grew up knowing about magic and had a happy childhood. He lived with his parents and his Uncle Sirius and Uncle Remus. He also learned that a man named Peter Pettigrew, or the "rat" as Sirius calls him, betrayed his parents, but got away before he they could do anything.
What Harry didn't know, was a year after the disaster of a day, a girl was born in a house located in Ottery Saint Catchpole, a girl that would come to be very important to him.
So how was it? I thought it wasn't bad. Make sure you leave a comment on this story.
