...Come to light.

December 2039

Grant Tracy never did like his daughter in law's parents.

Edward, was your stereotypical businessman that put work before family, Loraine, was your typical trophy wife, only there to look pretty and spit a couple of heirs.

He knew their marriage was only good on paper, Loraine had gotten drunk at Jeff and Lucy's wedding reception and made a pass at him, forcing the Houseman's removal from the party before his Sally could get hold of the hussy and make the wedding rememberable for all the wrong reasons…

Why Lucy had never completely cut them off had more to do with the fact, that it was easier for her to go to/invite them to a couple of family functions and grin and bare it, than it was to cause an uproar by cutting them off.

Grant knew from his limited experience as big fish in a small pond in his own community, people like the Houseman's and the Huntington's, were all about appearance, and somebody that shattered that appearance without having rock solid evidence for doing so, could potentially have their lives completely ruined in the revenge.

And the fact that Lucy's parents neglected her, wouldn't mean anything to the circles the Houseman's ran in.

Lucy's aunt and uncle, Joan and Harold Evans, on the other hand were the opposite to Lucy's parents.

It was hard to believe that Joan was Loraine's sister at times, a bout of cancer in her teenage years, had claimed her ability to have children, but Joan was a better mother to Lucy than Loraine ever was.

Harold was Joan's childhood sweetheart, who was the son of one of the attorneys the were on the Huntington payroll, while not someone Joan's father would have normally considered worthy of his daughter, he allowed the union because Joan's inability to have children had made her worthless as a trophy bride.

Harold was a lawyer by trade, but his passion was the horse stud business he and Joan ran out of their home at Gran Roca Ranch, a place that originally belonged to Joan's maternal grandparents, and he saw Lucy as the daughter that he would never have.

There was a reason why Lucy changed her last name to Evans the first chance she got.

It was Christmas Eve, 2039, Joan and Harold had invited, a pregnant with her fourth child, Lucy, Jeff, their boys and Jeff's parents to spend Christmas with them on the ranch.

It had been a fun couple days prior, with Joan teaching Scott how to ride solo, and being entertained by the pair as Joan tried to explain to the headstrong five year old that he was better off starting on the little pony, Applejack, than Lucy's palomino stallion, Thowra.

They where just thinking about putting the boys to bed for the evening, when Loraine and Edward turned up at the ranch unannounced…

Looking back, Grant was amazed at how quickly things went calm and pleasant to awkward and tense - not helped by Loraine's snide comments about Lucy's pregnancy and Scott asking who the crabby lady was.

But the shit truly hit the fan, the moment the Houseman's were introduced to John…

Loraine slapped Lucy across the face, calling her a cheating whore, triggering the protective instincts of not only Jeff, but the Evan's and the elder Tracy's as well.

Grant was pretty sure the boys learned quite a few words that they were not supposed to know from the fight that broke out between the sisters as Jeff and Sally herded a crying Lucy and boys from the room, while Harold and himself covered Edward in case he decided to defend his wife.

He needn't worried… Jeff and Lucy had almost reached the door when Edward, who had been silent and still up to this point, spoke up, "Be silent, Loraine," he snarled. "The only cheating whore in this room is you."

"What the hell?" Loraine snapped back. "Edward!"

"I thought I told you if Lucille wasn't my child, not to come crawling back," Edward growled. "So, what was it about my instructions that wasn't clear to you?"

"Of course Lucille is yours," Loraine snarled back. "You have the DNA test to prove it."

"Then explain to me why one of my so called grandsons look like that sailor you were fucking, not long before you got pregnant!" Edward roared.

"Because the no good for nothing hussy, is a cheating whore!" Loraine screamed back.

"You're wrong," Jeff hissed, his voice cutting across the room. "I never doubted John was my son, unlike you I trust my spouse, even when the doctor's insisted in checking both of our DNA samples against John's, three times, with different labs all giving the same results."

"You claim to trust your wife, yet you still had your son tested," Loraine sneered. "That doesn't sound like trust to me."

"Jeff had to be tested for his name to be able to be put on all his son's birth certificates," Lucy snapped back. "Laws have been changed since I was born, mother, because of this sort of thing."

"Lucille is correct about that, Loraine," Edward snarled. "Even Edd had to be tested to confirm that he was Eddie's father for the birth certificate."

"I will be willing to give you a DNA sample if you want to double check if you really are my father," Lucy offered.

"You will do no such thing-" Loraine started.

"I will take you up on your offer," Edward cut off his wife. "And if you are not my daughter what will you do?"

"Give up any claim to the Houseman fortune," Lucy answered. "No offence, but I'd sooner not have anything to with you or mother, especially if my only true connection to the Houseman family is Edd, and it will be up to him what sort of relationship he wants with me," Lucy sighed. "There is one thing I do want to know if you are not my father though…"

"And that is?" Edward asked.

"The name of the man mother was having her affair with at the time."

"Why is that so important?" Loraine sneered. "He's not going to want to have anything to do with a mistake like you."

"He has a right to know," Lucy replied, softly. "And thanks for confirming Edward isn't my father."

Loraine's eyes widened when she realised that the jig was up, "I should have aborted to two of you when I had the chance," she hissed. "And claimed that I lost the baby, maybe then you wouldn't keep ruining my life!"

The room was dead silent, as the horrible truth of Loraine's statement sunk in.

"The two of you?" Joan gasped at her sister. "Lucy has a twin?"

"So what if she did?" Loraine snapped back. "Brat took after his donor, I dumped that dead weight first chance I got."

"What happened to him or her, Loraine?" Edward asked.

"Don't know, don't care," Loraine replied. "Why do you care? It's not like they were yours."

Joan slapped her sister, "You're disgusting," she snarled. "You can at the very least tell us the name of Lucy's father."

"Why would tell that little mistake anything about the man that I spent my whole life stamping out of her, so she wouldn't be discovered?" Loraine laughed. "Little bitch should be grateful that she is alive, I owe her nothing."

More silence, then Harold spoke, "Get out," he hissed.

"Excuse me?" Loraine snarled.

"I said, get out!" Harold roared. "I don't want to see you anywhere near me or my family ever again, the only thing I want to hear from you is the name of Lucy's real father or that you have found her missing twin," he pointed at the door. "But I want you out that door right now."

"And consider yourself disowned and cut off from the family trust." Joan added.

"You can't do that!" Loraine snapped. "You don't have that kind authority!"

"I can and I will, mother changed the stipulations of the trust when father died, and left me as executor," Joan pointed out. "So I hope you have been saving the money you have been getting out of it because you are not getting anymore."

"But… But…"

"I might reconsider if you tell us what we want to know," Joan reasoned.

Loraine looked at Joan then at Lucy then back at Joan, "Screw you," she snarled. "I am not telling that mistake, or any one else who would think otherwise anything." She turned to leave, "Aren't you coming?" She snapped at her husband.

Edward threw Loraine the keys to the car, "Consider that your alimony," he growled. "It's more than you deserve."

Loraine screamed and stormed out of the room.

A couple of minutes later there was a sound of tyres spinning on dirt as Loraine left the property.

Grant turned to Edward as Harold went to check on his wife and niece, "How do you plan on getting home?" He asked.

"I will call for a ride," Edward replied. "And at the same time tell the staff the Loraine is no longer allowed on the property."

Grant nodded then asked, "Do you know the name of Lucy's father?"

Edward gave Grant a sorry look, "Other than the fact he is a sailor, and his first name is John?" He replied, "Not a thing, I never really did ask much about Loraine's fuck buddies, maybe I should've at that time, had I known this was going to be the result."

Loraine never gave up Lucy's father's name nor anything more on what happened to Lucy's twin, which they suspected, from Loraine's comment, was a boy.

Karma caught up with with Loraine barely six months later when her latest boy toy found out that she wasn't the key to the Houseman or the Huntington family fortune's, and he literally cut his losses.

Grant heard that only Edd attended her funeral.

Lucy tried, she really did, to find out who her real father and what happened to her twin, using all the resources available to her, but everyone that may have known something from the Huntington side of things, had already died several years prior to the revelations, and John was a very common name, not helped by the fact they didn't even know what navy Lucy's father served in, let alone rank.

Even with Edward's help in narrowing down location wasn't much help, as too many years had passed for people to be keeping records on someone that could have just been passing through.

And then with Gordon's early arrival, and the Global Conflict breaking out, finding out what happened to her father and twin became less of a priority.

As far Grant knew, John and Virgil didn't remember anything of that night, as for Scott, when he asked why that mean lady had to be mommy's mother and why couldn't Aunt Joan be, Lucy asked Scott if that was what he wanted.

And from that Christmas going forward Joan and Harold were the boys Nana and Papa, and Loraine was nothing more than an egg donor.

Notes: The Houseman's name their eldest boys Edward, hence the Ed, Edd, and Eddie reference.

And yes, Edd's son is the TAG version of Eddie Houseman - I plan to come back to that someday in another story.

Edd is a mama's boy, make of that what you will.
