In the void of darkness, Percy's consciousness felt adrift, like a lone boat lost at sea. The coldness wrapped around him, and he couldn't discern up from down or left from right. It was a disorienting and lonely place, where time seemed to have lost all meaning.
In this vast expanse of nothingness, there were faint, distant lights flickering like distant stars, trying to pierce the darkness. They were like beacons calling out to him, guiding him back to the world of the living.
Percy's mind wandered through this empty realm, memories and thoughts swirling in the void. Flashes of battles, laughter with friends, and the faces of those he cared about flashed before him, urging him to return.
Somewhere beyond the darkness, Percy heard voices—muffled and indistinct, like whispers on the wind. They were barely audible, but he strained to make out the words. They were familiar, familiar enough to give him hope.
With great effort, Percy willed himself to open his eyes. The light that greeted him was harsh, and he winced, squinting against the brightness. Slowly, the world around him began to take shape.
He found himself lying in a small, dimly lit room. The voices grew clearer as he focused on his surroundings. There were worried tones and hushed murmurs—voices of his friends, no doubt.
"Percy, can you hear us? Please, wake up," he heard someone say, their voice laced with concern.
He tried to speak, but his throat felt dry and scratchy. Instead, he managed a weak groan, which seemed to catch the attention of those near him.
"He's awake! Percy's awake!" another voice called out, filled with relief.
As his vision slowly adjusted to the light, Percy could make out familiar faces around him. Aoi, Inosuke, Zenitsu, Tanjiro, Kanao and someone he didn't recognize—all of them wearing an expression of pure relief on their faces.
"Perry! You're awake!" Inosuke exclaimed with genuine happiness, breaking the momentary silence that followed his return to consciousness.
Percy opened his mouth to speak, but the only thing that came out was a coughing fit. Aoi rushed to his side, holding a glass of water, concern etched on her features. "Take it easy, Percy. Here, have some water."
Percy gratefully accepted the glass, taking a few sips as his throat felt dry and scratchy. "Thanks, Aoi," he said, his voice still a little weak.
Like usual, the water seemed to rejuvenate him. It refreshed his mind, allowing him to remember the perilous encounter with Gyutaro and his sister. He wondered what happened after the fight, so, after drinking the entire cup, he decided to ask.
"What happened after the fight?" Percy asked, looking around at his friends. He couldn't help but notice the absence of one familiar face—Tengen.
Aoi's expression softened as she replied, "After the fight, Obanai arrived for backup. He saw all of you in bad shape, especially Inosuke." Her voice wavered slightly as she spoke, and Percy realized that Inosuke's injuries had indeed been severe.
Inosuke grinned widely, thumping his chest with pride. "You know it! But don't worry, I'm tough! Still standing!"
Percy chuckled, relieved to see that Inosuke's spirit was as indomitable as ever. But his thoughts turned to Tengen, and he couldn't help but ask, "What about Uzui? Is he okay?"
Aoi smiled brightly. "Oh, Uzui! He made a miraculous recovery! It seems his wives' care and love have worked wonders. He decided to retire and live peacefully with them."
Percy let out a sigh of relief. He was glad to hear that Tengen was okay and had found happiness in retirement. The Hashira had fought fiercely and deserved a peaceful life with his loved ones.
As the conversation continued, Percy noticed fresh flowers and letters on the nearby table. "Who put those there?" he asked, curious about the unexpected gifts.
Aoi smiled gently. "That would be Miss Kanroji. She always finds time to visit you after her various missions. She's worried about you."
Percy felt a mix of happiness and gratitude. He was touched by Mitsuri's thoughtfulness and care. He did feel guilty for making her worry, however.
A few meters away, he noticed Kanao sitting by Tanjiro's bedside, holding his hand. He smiled at the sight. It seems Tanjiro has managed to get trough her facade.
"So, for how long I was out?" he asked getting comfortable on his bed. Aoi's response, however, shocked him to the core.
Percy turned his attention to her, his eyes widening in shock. "Two months?" he exclaimed, sitting up straight with a jolt. He couldn't believe he had been unconscious for such a long time. "What happened? How did I end up in a coma for two months?"
Aoi gently placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to calm him down. "It was the strain of the battle. Uzui said you fainted right after stopping the Oni's last attack, " she explained. "Your body needed time to recover."
Zenitsu added softly, "You scared us all. But we're glad you're awake now."
Percy took a deep breath, trying to process the information. Two months had passed, and he had missed so much. He glanced at Tanjiro, who was still holding Kanao's hand, and smiled. "It's fine. I'm just glad to see all of you here, safe and sound."
As he was about to speak again, a familiar voice interrupted from the doorway. "Well, well, don't move too much, Percy. You just woke up from a coma, after all."
Percy's smile showed itself when he saw Shinobu entering the room, her ever-present smile lighting up her face. Despite her cheerful demeanor, he could see she had been deeply concerned about him, if the relief in her eyes was any evidence.
"Shinobu," Percy greeted warmly, "thank you for everything. I couldn't have made it without your help."
Shinobu shrugged playfully. "Oh, it's nothing. Just doing my job as a healer and a fellow demon slayer." She walked closer to his bed, her eyes filled with genuine concern. "How are you feeling?"
Percy leaned back against his pillows, feeling a mix of exhaustion and relief. "I'm a little sore, but I'll be fine," he replied. "I guess I'll have to take it easy for a while."
Shinobu nodded, her expression softening. "Yes, you should focus on resting and recovering. We'll take care of everything else."
As the conversation continued, Percy felt a profound sense of gratitude. He was grateful for his friends who had stood by him through thick and thin, and he was grateful for the new bonds he had formed along the way.
As the day turned into night, the visitors bid their farewells, leaving Percy and Tanjiro alone in the nursery. The soft glow of the lantern cast a warm light on the room, and the sound of Tanjiro's soft snoring filled the air. Percy settled into a chair, feeling a mix of emotions as he prepared to read Mitsuri's letters.
He picked up the first letter, noticing Mitsuri's meticulous handwriting and the dates she had written at the top. This one was dated from two months ago, likely right after his mission. With the lantern's light illuminating the page, he began to read her words:
"Dearest Percy,
I hope you woke up well. I have to say, I was so worried when I heard what happened to you. My heart was in my throat, fearing the worst. I spent the entire day by your side, praying for your recovery.
But then, Shinobu assured me that you were stable, and I was so relieved. I couldn't help but smile at the thought of you waking up and making one of your witty remarks.
I'm bringing you these flowers to wish you a good recovery. Sakura flowers has always been a symbol of hope and strength to me, just like you are. I hope they bring you some comfort.
Please wake up soon, Percy. I want to see your bright eyes and hear you laughing again. Until then, know that I'll be sending you all my prayers.
With all my heart,
Mitsuri Kanroji"
Percy felt a warm sensation spreading through his chest as he read Mitsuri's words. He could feel her genuine concern and affection seeping through the ink on the page. It was as if she was right there, whispering her thoughts to him. Her words filled him with a sense of comfort and happiness.
He opened the second letter, noting it was written only one week after the first. As he opened it, he noticed how her handwriting seemed a little more hurried, as if she couldn't wait to put her thoughts into words.
"Dearest Percy,
I was so relieved to hear that your wounds healed. It's amazing how resilient you are. But now, it's up to you to wake up. Funny how the human body works, isn't it? You fought so hard, and now you're resting as if you were never injured, but I miss you greatly.
I believe in you, Percy. I know that you'll find your way back to us, back to the world of the living. You're a fighter, and I've seen you overcome so much already. I have no doubt that you'll conquer this too.
But still, part of me is afraid. Afraid that you won't wake up, that I won't talk to you again. I miss our time together, Percy. I catch myself daydreaming about it, the battles we've fought, and the things we've shared. You brought so much joy and excitement into my life, and I want those moments again.
Please, wake up soon. I need you here with us. We all do. The world feels a little dimmer without your presence, and I can't wait to see you smiling again.
With all my hope,
Mitsuri Kanroji"
Percy felt a mixture of emotions as he read Mitsuri's heartfelt words. He could feel her love and concern woven into every sentence. The fear of losing him, the longing for his return, and the unwavering belief in his strength—all of it touched him deeply.
He found comfort in knowing that Mitsuri was waiting for him, rooting for his recovery. Percy closed his eyes, clutching Mitsuri's letter to his chest, feeling her presence in every word.
Percy eagerly opened the third letter from Mitsuri, noticing that it was dated almost a month ago.
"My Dearest Percy,
I'm sorry for taking so long to write. The missions have been non-stop, and I barely had a moment to write. But you were always on my mind, and I missed writing to you.
Word spread quickly after Uzui's announcement about his retirement and your efforts against Upper Moon Six. Everyone is talking about your bravery and strength. I knew you were incredible, Percy, but hearing about your accomplishments like this made me amazed.
Congratulations on being promoted to Rank One, the highest rank behind the Hashira. You've earned it, and I couldn't be happier for you. It's an incredible achievement, and I have no doubt that you'll continue to rise even higher.
On another note, I have good news! Your friend Zenitsu woke up from his coma a while ago, and he's been training hard to get back in shape. We've all been supporting and encouraging him in his recovery.
I hope that you'll wake up soon, Percy. There are so many things I want to tell you, so many adventures we still need to have together. I miss you more with each passing day, and I can't wait to see your face again.
With all my love and longing,
Mitsuri"
Percy smiled as he read Mitsuri's letter. He felt a sense of pride and joy knowing that she was proud of his accomplishments and that she missed him just as much as he missed her. He was grateful for the friends he had, for the bonds they shared, and for the strength they gave him.
"Also," he thinks with a blush. "'My Dearest Percy', huh? I like the sound of that."
He was surprised about the promotion, though. He close his hand in a tight fist, and, sure enough, the kanji for "One" was there.
Ignoring it for now, Percy carefully unfolded the fourth and final letter from Mitsuri, dated from a week ago. He could sense a mix of emotions in her words, and he felt his heart flutter as he read her thoughts.
"My Dearest Percy,
Inosuke finally woke up! Can you believe it? He's as brash and wild as ever, making us all laugh and roll our eyes at the same time. It's good to have him back with us, even if he can be a handful sometimes. Oh, and here's a juicy piece of gossip for you: I have a strong suspicion that Aoi has a bit of a crush on him. But don't tell her I said that!
As for you, I have a feeling you're close to waking up. The others told me that they've seen you stirring in your sleep. I miss you, and it's been hard being away from your side for so long, but I'm glad that the wait is coming to an end.
I wish I could stay a little more, but duty calls. I have to travel to the Swordsmith Village to get my sword fixed. It got a bit damaged during a battle, but I'll make sure it's as good as new when I return. You know how much I cherish my sword, after all.
I'll be counting down the days until I can see you again. Until then, please take care of yourself and keep fighting, just like the hero you are.
With all my love and longing,
Mitsuri"
Percy couldn't help but smile again as he read Mitsuri's words. Even in her absence, she filled his heart with warmth and love. He felt a deep connection with her, a bond that transcended time and distance.
He held the letter close to his chest, feeling the strength and determination it gave him. As he turned off the lights, his dreams were blessed with images of the pink haired woman he became so entangled with.
Percy's breath came out in ragged gasps as he finished his series of push-ups. He had been working tirelessly to get his body back in shape after two months of being in a coma. Slowly, he rose to his feet, wiping the sweat from his forehead. His faithful companion, Nyx, perched on his shoulder, its black feathers glistening in the sunlight.
Percy smiled as he stroked Nyx's feathers affectionately. The raven had been a constant source of comfort and company during his workout. Nyx had been there through it all, never leaving his side.
"Caw! The Master wishes to see you! Caw! He wishes to see you right now! Caw!" Nyx squawked, its voice urgent and insistent. With that, the raven took flight and disappeared into the sky.
Percy's eyebrows furrowed in curiosity. He wondered what the Master wanted to see him for. Perhaps it was something important related to their recent battles against the demons.
Deciding not to keep the Master waiting, Percy made his way to the bathroom to take a quick shower and freshen up. The warm water washed away the sweat and grime, leaving him feeling revitalized. Once he was ready, he donned his usual attire, making his way towards Ubuyashiki estate.
Percy reached the house the Master came through at the Hashira meeting. He felt a tinge of shyness as the woman, the Master's wife, opened the door and greeted him with a warm smile. "Hello, Percy. Ubuyashiki is waiting for you in the living room. Please follow me."
Percy followed the woman through a narrow hall, surrounded by beautiful paintings filled with vibrant flowers and calming features. The house itself had an old and rustic charm, with traditional Japanese architecture. Its wooden walls exuded a sense of warmth, and the subtle scent of incense filled the air.
They entered the living room, a spacious area with tatami flooring and soft, woven rugs. The room was adorned with elegant artwork and intricately designed ornaments, each piece seemingly telling a story of its own. Large windows allowed the natural light to filter in, creating a tranquil atmosphere.
Master Ubuyashiki was seated on a cushioned pillow on the floor, his presence radiating a sense of wisdom and authority. He smiled warmly at Percy as he entered, offering a nod of respect in greeting. Percy returned the gesture with a bow, showing his respect for the esteemed Master.
The woman gracefully bowed and excused herself, leaving Percy and Master Ubuyashiki alone in the living room. The Master gestured to an empty seat in front of him, inviting Percy to sit. Percy complied, feeling a sense of humility in the presence of such a revered figure.
"I'm glad you could join me, Percy," Master Ubuyashiki said, his voice soft but commanding. "You've shown great dedication and courage in your time as a demon slayer. It's no wonder you've earned the trust and respect of your fellow Hashira."
Percy's cheeks flushed slightly at the praise, feeling a mix of pride and humility. "Thank you, Master Ubuyashiki. I am honored to be among such skilled and brave warriors."
The Master smiled kindly, his gaze steady yet filled with compassion. "You have faced formidable challenges and overcome them with great strength and determination," he continued. "Now, I have an important task for you. You have been invited to the Swordsmith Village."
Percy's curiosity piqued. The Swordsmith Village was renowned for its master craftsmen who forged the famed Nichirin blades. Its location was known only by special members of the corps. He wondered why they wanted to meet him, but the Master's next words provided an explanation.
"The swordsmiths have heard of your unique blade, one that does not rely on sunlight to vanquish demons," the Master explained. "They wish to try replicating the metal of your sword, as it could prove to be a valuable weapon against the demons."
Percy nodded thoughtfully. "My sword, Riptide, is made of Celestial Bronze," he said. "It's a special metal that grows on Mount Olympus, the home of the gods in my world. I'm not sure if it can be replicated, but I am willing to go to the Swordsmith Village and see if they can find a way."
The Master nodded appreciatively. "Your willingness to explore new possibilities is commendable, Percy. Your journey to the Swordsmith Village will be of great importance. Take Tanjiro with you; he had his blade chipped in the fight and will need repairs."
Percy remembered the feminine Oni taunting Tanjiro for chipping his blade during their clash. She had mockingly said that the smith who forged the sword must not be that skilled. "I will," he said firmly. "Tanjiro is a dear friend, and his presence will be much appreciated."
"Good," the Master said, pleased with Percy's response. "Your ride to the Swordsmith Village will be waiting for you both. Go with my blessing and bring hope to the Demon Slayer Corps."
The journey to the Swordsmith Village was unlike anything Percy had experienced before. Both he and Tanjiro were blindfolded, and Tanjiro even had his nose blocked, making it clear that the location of the village was a closely guarded secret. As they were guided by multiple guides, Percy couldn't help but feel a mix of curiosity and excitement.
Sitting on what felt like a massive wheelbarrow, they moved through rugged terrain and dense forests. The rhythmic swaying of the vehicle beneath them and the sound of the guides' hushed whispers added to the mystique of their journey.
Time seemed to pass in a blur as they traveled deeper into the heart of the wilderness. The anticipation of what awaited them at the Swordsmith Village kept Percy on edge. He wondered about the skill and craftsmanship of the swordsmiths, who had managed to keep their location hidden from the world.
After a few days, the last guide finally brought the wheelbarrow to a stop. The air was filled with a hushed excitement as Percy and Tanjiro were helped down from the vehicle. As the blindfolds were removed, they found themselves standing in a vast clearing surrounded by towering cliffs, concealing the entrance to the Swordsmith Village.
The village itself was a marvel to behold. Intricate buildings and forges were built into the natural rock formations, blending seamlessly with the environment. The clanging of metal and the skilled hands of the swordsmiths at work filled the air, creating a symphony of craftsmanship.
"Hey, isn't that Miss Kanroji?"
Percy's heart skipped a beat as Tanjiro's words caught his attention. Turning his head in the direction his friend pointed so fast that he wondered how it didn't break, he saw her. There she was, the captivating Mitsuri Kanroji, descending the staircase leading to the Hot Springs. Her beauty seemed to radiate even in the dim light, and Percy couldn't help but feel a rush of emotions.
She was dressed in a delicate kimono, a departure from her usual demon slayer uniform. Her usually cheerful demeanor seemed replaced with a hint of sadness, evident in the way she looked down and kicked small rocks along the stairway.
As she looked up, her eyes met Percy's, and she gasped softly, bringing both hands to cover her mouth in surprise. Percy's cheeks flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and happiness. He hadn't expected to meet her here, but he couldn't deny the joy that filled him at the sight of her.
"Hey, Mitsuri" Percy called out, his voice slightly shaky with nerves and excitement.
As their eyes locked, Percy noticed the surprise in Mitsuri's expression giving way to an overwhelmingly radiant smile. It was a smile that could light up an entire country. Tears of joy glistened in the corners of her eyes, and without hesitation, she shouted his name, "Percy!" before bounding down the stairs towards him.
His heart raced as she ran towards him, her kimono flowing gracefully behind her. The sight of her approaching caused Percy's cheeks to flush beet red. He tried to focus on her face, but the wild swing of her generous bosom from side to side was distracting to say the least.
In the background, Percy could faintly hear Tanjiro saying something, but the words were lost on him. All he could do was open his arms in anticipation as Mitsuri closed the distance between them. As she reached him, they collided with an impact that sent both of them laughing.
Percy twirled her around in his embrace, feeling the warmth of her against him. He couldn't help but stroke her hair affectionately, savoring the moment. Mitsuri's laughter was a beautiful melody that filled his heart with joy.
As they finally settled, Mitsuri leaned her head against his chest, her arms wrapped around him tightly. Percy held her close, feeling the rise and fall of her breath against him. She began to speak, her voice slightly shaky with emotion.
"Percy, I was so worried that you wouldn't wake up," she confessed, her words muffled against his chest. "I was so afraid of losing you."
Her vulnerability touched him deeply, and Percy tightened his embrace around her. "Hey, I'm here now. I'm alright," he reassured her, his voice gentle and comforting.
Mitsuri lifted her head, her eyes shining with tears of relief. "I'm so glad," she said, her voice still trembling with emotion. "I missed you so much."
Percy's heart swelled with affection for the caring and compassionate Hashira.
"I missed you too," he admitted, his own voice filled with sincerity.
The air around them seemed to crackle with an electrifying tension as Percy gently held Mitsuri's chin with his fingers, his gaze locked with hers. He felt a surge of courage and affection, and without hesitating, he leaned in, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. In that moment, he wanted to etch this memory into his heart forever.
The touch of his lips on her skin sent a shiver down his spine, and he closed his eyes, savoring the warmth of his affection. It was the first time Percy had initiated a kiss between them, and it filled him with a sense of joy and wonder.
Leaning back, he saw her cheeks flushed with a rosy hue as she leaned back to look at him, her wild smile captivating him. Mitsuri's lips curved into a soft smile as she, with a glimmer of mischief in her eyes, leaned closer, placing a lingering kiss on Percy's cheek, dangerously close to his mouth.
His heart skipped a beat as he felt her soft lips against his skin. The kiss lingered longer than the usual playful pecks on the cheek, and he couldn't help but feel a rush of warmth spreading through him.
Their closeness was intoxicating, and Percy found himself caressing the spot where Mitsuri had kissed him, cherishing the feeling.
"Mitsuri," he whispered, his voice barely audible amidst the pounding of his heart.
Her eyes sparkled as she looked at him, her gaze filled with affection and admiration. "Percy," she replied, her voice soft and filled with tenderness.
He knew that something had shifted between them after the Moon Festival. But if there was any lingering doubt, he now knew that their feelings had taken a step beyond mere friendship. The connection they shared was undeniable, and they were both drawn to each other in a way that felt both exhilarating and terrifying.
Percy felt a mix of excitement and nervousness building inside him. He had never imagined that he would find love again. He never imagined he would once more find someone who could make him feel so alive, so understood, and so cherished. At this very moment, he realizes he loves her. It brings his heart happiness and fear at the same time, remembering his past experience.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the village, Percy and Mitsuri remained lost in each other's gaze. In that moment, they knew that their journey together was just beginning. The road ahead was uncertain and filled with challenges, but they were ready to face it together.
Their closeness was interrupted by the arrival of one of the guides, who came to inform them about dinner. Mitsuri's eyes sparkled with excitement at the mention of matsutake mushrooms.
"Whooaaa! Are you serious?" she exclaimed, her enthusiasm infectious as she grabbed Percy's hand, leading him towards the guest house where dinner awaited.
Percy laughed at her eagerness, feeling his heart light up at her playful energy. Despite having their moment interrupted, he willingly followed her, charmed by her spirit and the way she embraced life with such fervor.
In the distance, he could see Tanjiro heading towards the hot springs. It made him smile, knowing that his friend was finding his own moments of peace and solace.
Percy watched with amusement as Mitsuri was served plate after plate of delicious food, her eyes lighting up with joy and humming happily at each delectable bite. She had an infectious enthusiasm for good food, and it was a delight to witness.
A few moments later, Tanjiro joined them, sharing his encounter with a boy named Genya at the hot springs. Mitsuri's expression shifted from her usual exuberance to a slight hint of disappointment as she mentioned that the boy seemed to ignore her when she tried to talk to him.
Feeling the weight of her emotions, Percy gently squeezed her hand under the table, offering silent comfort and understanding. He knew how sensitive Mitsuri could be, and he wanted to comfort her.
Just as the atmosphere threatened to become a bit somber, Nezuko appeared, her presence bringing a renewed sense of joy to the group. Mitsuri's face brightened up immediately upon seeing her, and she couldn't resist engaging in playful antics with the demon-turned-human.
Mitsuri played and tickled Nezuko, eliciting delighted laughter from the young girl. Percy couldn't help but smile at the heartwarming scene before him. Nezuko seemed to genuinely enjoy Mitsuri's company, and it was evident that the Hashira had a special touch when it came to interacting with children. She would be a great mother someday.
As the night grew quiet and the rest of their friends retreated to their rooms, Percy found himself following Mitsuri as she made her way back to her own quarters. He couldn't stop the urge to spend more time with her, cherishing each moment they had together.
"Mitsuri," he called softly, taking her hand in his and giving it a gentle squeeze.
She turned to face him, her eyes warm and welcoming. "Oh, Percy. Um, do you need anything?" she asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.
Percy got nervous as he answered, "I was wondering, would you like to go on a date with me tomorrow? We could spend some time together, maybe take a walk."
Mitsuri's face fell slightly, and Percy could see a hint of sadness in her eyes. "I would love to, Percy, but I'm leaving tomorrow morning. I'm not allowed to stay any longer."
"Oh, right," Percy said, feeling a pang of disappointment. "Well, how about this then? When I return, we can go on that date. It'll give us something to look forward to."
Mitsuri's eyes brightened, and a smile graced her lips. "I'd love that, Percy. I'll be waiting for you to come back."
"Great," Percy said, feeling a surge of happiness. "I'm already excited for it."
As they stood there, their hands still intertwined, Percy couldn't resist the impulse to show Mitsuri how much he cared for her. He leaned in and placed a soft, lingering kiss on her cheek.
Mitsuri blushed, her cheeks turning a rosy pink. "Thank you, Percy. That was sweet," she said, her voice slightly breathless.
With a final goodnight, Percy bid her farewell and made his way back to his own room. As he lay in bed, his heart felt full, knowing that he had taken a step closer to expressing his feelings for Mitsuri. He promised himself that on their next date, he would find the courage to ask her to be his girlfriend.
