Several weeks later at Parents Day, Emma was busy checking in on one of the cabins to make sure things were going well.
"Hey, how is it going in here, Becky?" asked Emma as she stepped inside one of the cabins.
"Pretty good," said Becky, who was using a portable stove to cook.
"Especially with Jason and Marcus helping to take the food out, it was nice of you guys to volunteer to help us out like this," she said.
"Not like our cabin needed our help, they are just doing something small and we weren't really needed for it," said Marcus while getting a pitcher of water.
"Yeah; besides, you're the one doing the hard work by making all the food that we're taking out so don't act like you're not doing anything," said Jason as he walked in to get another order.
"Well I had better leave you all to it," said Emma. While walking away, she noticed someone in the sea of people.
"You have to be kidding me," she said as her eyes fell on her mother who had also noticed her.
"Emma, what are you doing here?" asked her mom.
"I got hired on as kitchen staff for the summer, but that's none of your business in the first place," said Emma.
"It sure is, I'm your mother," said Emma's mom.
"You know what, I don't think you have actually been my mom since the day I came out and you threw a homophobic fit over it then got into a fight with dad that led to you two divorcing," said Emma.
"Because a true mother would accept their daughter for who she is, not try and change her every chance that she got or forget about her when she does not have custody," she said.
"Emma enough, you are drawing a crowd by being so hysterical," said her mother as people started gathering.
"Then you should never have talked to me in the first place," said Emma as she went to walk away. However, her mother instantly grew an enraged expression at the sight of Emma turning her back on her.
"Don't you turn your back on me!" said Emma's mom while going to grab her by the shoulder.
"I'm only going to warn you once," said Vivian as she came out of nowhere and stopped Emma's mom by grabbing her wrist.
"Keep your hands off her," she said while glaring at the older woman.
