OBSTACLES

"Alright everyone, gather round," All Might read from his script as he walked 1-A through a practice city-scape. "Many exercises you go through happen in clear areas, free from distractions and obstacles, but not today! Today, I'll teach you how to deal with those obstacles."

After a long, awkward pause, Momo asked, "How, exactly, will we deal with those obstacles?"

"Why, dodging them, of course!" All Might belted a laugh as they rounded the corner. A whole street had been overtaken by swinging pendulums, gyrating bars, and cannon blasters mounted from every window and rooftop. "There are many obstacles one might run into through your career. Traffic, villain attacks, wrenches, rabid squirrels, fighter jets, clowns with banana creme pies-"

"Wait, what was that last one?"

"And a hero needs to be ready for them all! Unfortunately, I can't just take you out in the middle of a busy street and have you run through traffic, so you'll be running through this instead!"

Iida said, "These obstacles do not appear to have any resemblance to real-world situations. I hope that it isn't an oversight on the part of this fine institution."

"Not at all! There's actually a really good reason we're using dodgeballs instead of wrenches and cars. If you can dodge a ball, you can dodge traffic!"

Sero hesitantly said, "I think you have that backwards."

"Anyways!" All Might shouted over him, "To help you get through this obstacle course, I'll teach you the five D's that I've used for my entire career. They make dodging anything a snap. They are… dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge! Remember them."

"You said dodge twice."

"Exactly! It's the most important part of dodging. Now, would anyone like to volunteer?"

While All Might coughed into his arm, the rest of the class stepped back, leaving Izuku at the front. When he looked back up, All Might saw Izuku and beamed. "Excellent! Right this way, Midoriya."

Izuku stepped forward. "The objective is to pass through the obstacles, correct?"

All Might felt a shiver pass down his spine as flashbacks of the previous summer haunted him. "That's correct. There's a finish line beyond the office across the street. Try to get there as fast as possible."

"Understood."

Before All Might could even start his stopwatch, Izuku charged forward into the first set of gyrating bars. The bar snapped off as Izuku ran through it. A pendulum swung at Izuku from the side. It slammed into Izuku and bounced back, crushed by the impact, while Izuku kept going without breaking stride.

Once Izuku got to the office building, armed with its own traps, Izuku ignored the doors. He didn't give the windows a second glance. Instead, he Kool-Aid manned his way through the brick wall and sprinted full tilt out the other side.

The building collapsed, revealing Izuku at the finish line. Not a single obstacle still stood.

Sero checked his elbows. "I don't have enough tape to fix this."
