Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 12 of God of Lies and Mischief and the Woman of Many Faces. Thank you to those who have left reviews and have kept up with this story. It really does mean a lot to me that you guys are enjoying it. There are a handful of chapters left after this chapter. I think 6 more after this one. I know that you guys are liking the idea of Loki and Everleigh getting together at some point. I'm just trying to figure out how to actually go about writing it. Hopefully you guys will love this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 12. Enjoy!
Chapter 12
Everleigh stood with the rest of them listening in on what was going on camera between Loki and Director fury. She crossed her arms, biting her lower lip softly.
"In case it's unclear, you try to escape- you so much as scratch that glass. Thirty thousand feet straight down in a steel trap. You get how that works? Ant. Boot."
"It's an impressive cage. Not built, I think, for me." Loki's smooth voice rang out over the video.
"Built for something a lot stronger than you."
"Oh I've heard." Loki looked up to the camera. "A mindless beast- makes play he's still a man."
Natasha looked up at Bruce.
Bruce smirked about her cage comment from before.
Thor listened intently to what his brother was saying.
"How desperate are you, that you call on such lost creatures to defend you?"
"How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war, you steal a force you can't hope to control, you talk about peace and you kill 'cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did."
"Ooh. It burns you to have come so close, to have the Tesseract, to have power- unlimited power, and for what?" Loki smiled. "A warm light for all mankind to share? And then to be reminded what real power is."
"Well, let me know if 'real power' wants a magazine or something."
Steve looked up from the monitor that shut off.
"He really grows on you doesn't he?" Bruce questioned letting out a breath crossing his arms in thought.
"Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?" Steve questioned looking at the blond haired god of thunder.
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard nor any world known. He means to lead the against your people. They will win him the Earth, in return, I suspect, for the Tesseract."
"An army, from outer space?"
"So, he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for."
"Selvig?"
"He's an astrophysicist."
"He's a friend."
"Loki has them under some kind of spell- along with one of ours." Natasha explained to them.
"I wanna know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here."
"I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats, you can smell crazy on him." Bruce said, letting out a breath, rubbing his temples in thought.
"Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason but he is of Asgard, and he is my brother."
"He killed eighty people in two days." Natasha stated as she looked at Thor.
"He's adopted?"
"I think it's about the mechanics. Iridium, what do they need the Iridium for?"
Tony came into the room with Coulson. "It's a stabilizing agent." He turned his attention to Coulson. "I'm saying, take a weekend; I'll fly you to Portland. Keep love alive."
Everleigh rolled her eyes as Coulson peeled away from Tony who was walking towards Thor.
"Means the portal won't collapse on itself like it did at SHIELD." Tony looked at Thor. "No hard feelings point break, you got a mean swing."
Thor gave Tony a look as he walked to the control panels.
"Also, means the portal can open as wide and stay open as long as Loki wants. Ah, raise the mizzen mast, ship the topsails."
The personnel looked at Tony strangely.
"That man is playing Galaga! Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did." Tony covered his one eye standing in the command area of the ship. "How does Fury even see these?"
"He turns!" Maria said, looking at Tony.
"Sounds exhausting!" He said as he began to mess with the screens, sticking something to the underside of the desk. "The rest of the raw materials, Agent Barton can get his hands on pretty easily. Only major component he still needs is a power source of high energy density. Something
to- kick start the Cube."
"When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?"
"Last night. The packet, Selvig's notes, the extraction theory papers- am I the only one who did
the reading?"
"Does Loki need any particular kind of power source?" Steve questioned in thought.
Everleigh crossed her arms.
"He's have to heat the Cube to a hundred and twenty million kelvin just to break through the Coulomb barrier." Bruce explained.
"Unless, Selvig has figured out how to stabilize the Quantum Tunneling effect."
"Well, if he could do that he could achieve heavy-ion fusion at any reactor on the planet."
"Finally. Someone who speaks English."
"Is that what just happened?" Steve questioned the others.
Everleigh let out a soft chuckle.
Tony and Bruce shook hands.
"It's good to meet you, Doctor Banner. Your work on anti-electronic collisions is unparalleled. And I'm a huge fan of the way you- lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster."
"Thanks."
Director Fury came into the room hearing Tony's comment. "Doctor Banner is only here to track
the Cube. I was hoping you might join him."
"I'd start with that stick of his. It may be magical but it works an awful lot like a HYDRA weapon." Steve pointed out.
"I don't know about that, but it is powered by the Cube. And I like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkeys."
"Monkeys? I do not understand…" Thor said/
"I do!:
The entire room went instantly silent, staring at Steve.
"I...I understood that reference."
"Shall we play, Doctor?" Tony questioned.
"This way, sir."
The two of them walked away.
Everleigh let out a breath shaking her head lightly knowing that Tony and Bruce hopefully would get to the bottom of what was going on.
XXXXXXXXXXXX
This is the end of Chapter 12. I hope that you all enjoyed this chapter. I've tried my best with writing this one. I know there wasn't much Loki in it. But I promise there will be more Loki in future chapters. Please leave a review and let me know what you think and if Everleigh should go and talk to Loki to try and get information out of him? Until next time.
