Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 16 of God of Lies and Mischief and the Woman of Many Faces. Thank you to those who have left reviews and have kept up with this story. It really does mean a lot to me. We only have 2 chapters after this one and Avengers will be completed. Then there will be perhaps a chapter or two for Iron Man 3, but I haven't quite decided. But I do have a plethora of ideas for Thor The Dark World. I hope that you guys will enjoy this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 16. Enjoy!
Chapter 16
Everleigh looked out the window, her brows furrowed a little. "Loki's at the tower… I can feel his magic."
"You're going now, kid?" Clint questioned looking back over his shoulder at Everleigh.
"Yes, I'm going to try to keep Stark safe… the best I can anyways, and try to figure out what exactly is going on with Loki. If I can get him to reveal who is actually behind this."
"Be careful, kid. You're one of the best agents we have besides me and Natasha."
Everleigh smiled a small smile. "Yeah, we'll see how SHIELD feels about that after today." Magic wrapped around her body and she vanished from the plane before landing in Stark tower. Her eyes went wide as she saw Tony threatening Loki the best that he could without his suit on.
Tony looked over at Everleigh and winked at her letting her know that he was alright for the moment, that Loki hadn't tried to do anything to him.
"The Avengers. It's what we call ourselves, sort of like a team. 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes' type of thing."
"Yes, I've met them." Loki said as he looked at Tony wondering where he was going on with this whole thing.
"Yeah, takes us a while to get any traction, I'll give you that one. But, let's do a head count here. Your brother, the Demi-God…"
Loki turned away and Tony quickly slipped on a pair of bracelets onto his wrists.
"A super soldier, a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend; a man with breath-taking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins, and you, big fella, you've managed to piss off every single one of them."
"That was the plan."
Tony began to walk to the center of the penthouse where Loki was standing. "Not a great plan. When they come, and they will, they'll come for you."
"I have an army."
"We have a Hulk."
"Oh, I thought the beast had wandered off."
"Yeah- you're missing the point. There's no throne, there is no version of this, where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes and maybe it's too much for us, but it's all on you. 'Cause if we can't protect the earth, you can be damned well sure we'll avenge it."
Loki walked over to Tony, pointing his scepter at Tony. "How will your friends have time for
me, when they're so busy fighting you?"
Everleigh watched carefully from the shadows, pursing her lips together as Loki walked up to Tony, placing the tip of the scepter over his heart. It clinked against the arc reactor.
"This usually works."
"Well, performance issues. You know?"
Loki suddenly grabbed Tony by the throat and threw him across the room.
"JARVIS, anytime now."
Loki grabbed Tony once again. "You will all fall before me."
"JARVIS. Deploy."
Loki sent Tony crashing through the window and plummeting toward the ground.
Everleigh suddenly blasted Loki, sending him into the wall. She came towards him as the Mark VII suit went rocketing past and out after Tony.
Loki looked up at Everleigh with narrowed blue green eyes.
Everleigh blinked a few times seeing that his eyes had shifted a little bit.
Suddenly Tony flew back up to Loki at the window seeing him on the ground. "And there's one other person you pissed off! His name is Phil." Suddenly he blasted a repulsor blast at Loki and knocked him down again.
Everleigh's head shot up when a bright blue stream of energy shot up to the sky.
Tony looked up as well. "Right! Army."
"Handle it, I'll be in the battle soon." Everleigh said over the com to Tony.
"You got it, Vincin." Tony said as he flew away.
Everleigh turned her attention back to Loki.
"You're going to try and appeal to me?" Loki said as he got up to his feet.
"Appeal to you?" Everleigh's hands glowed some with her magic coursed through her body. "You've killed people and have no sense of justice. You're insane…"
Loki narrowed his eyes. "You know nothing."
"I know enough. I know there is a darker power around you and it's not you!"
Loki sent a blast towards Everleigh from the scepter in his hands.
Everleigh jumped out of the way and rolled across the ground hard. She groaned softly as she shakily got up to her feet.
Loki walked out onto the pad, his Asgardian armor materialized as he looked over the chaos that was happening below him.
Suddenly Thor landed on the pad. "Loki, turn off the Tesseract or I'll destroy it!"
"You can't. There is no stopping it. There is only the war!"
"So be it."
Loki lept at Thor and the two of them began to fight, a blast from Loki's scepter sending one of the letters of Stark falling onto the ground.
Everleigh moved towards the pad watching the two of them fight. She looked up towards the sky pursing her lips before she began to blast her magic at the Chitauri that were still coming from the sky.
"Stark, we're on a three heading north east." Natasha's voice rang over the coms.
"What, did you stop for drive-thru? Swing that park, I'm gonna lay 'em out for you."
Everleigh blasted some of the troop that was following Tony causing them to crash as he took a sharp turn.
Thor smashed Loki's head into a glass on the catwalk of the tower as they continued to fight.
Everleigh vanished and appeared on the other side of the tower trying her best to avoid Loki and Thor coming to blows. She knew that the brothers needed to fight this out on their own and she wasn't about to get involved with Loki and Thor's battle.
Loki spotted the jet and he then threw Thor to the floor and blasted one of the jet's rotor blades with his scepter, catching on fire.
Thor charged at Loki and tackled him to the ground as the quinjet fell to the ground. They continued to throw punches.
"You guys alright?" Everleigh questioned slightly out of breath as she continued to blast some of the Chitauri out of the sky.
"We're fine." Nat called over the com.
"We gotta get back up there." Steve said before trailing off seeing a large giant armored Leviathan coming out of the portal.
"Oh you've got to be fucking kidding me." Everleigh said with a groan of irritation.
The warriors jumped onto the sides of the building and into buildings shooting civilians.
"Stark, are you seeing this?"
"Seeing. still working on believing. Where's Banner? Has he shown up yet?"
"Banner?"
"Just keep me posted. JARVIS, find me a soft spot."
Thor held Loki down and gestured to the chaos in Manhattan below them. "Look at this! Look around you! You think this madness will end with your rule?"
Loki swallowed the lump in his throat looking worried at the chaos that was happening around them. "It's too late. It's too late to stop it."
"No. We can, together."
Loki paused for a moment before then slipping a knife into his hand and stabbed Thor. "Sentiment!"
Thor got back up to his feet and lifted Loki into the air, then suddenly dropped him.
Loki rolled himself off the edge of the building only to land on one of the Chitauri crafts. He flew off with a troop of them.
"We've got civilians trapped." Clint's voice rang over the com.
"Loki." Steve said over the com seeing Loki flying above them.
Everleigh rushed over to Thor. "You alright?"
"I'm fine. Not the first time that he has stabbed me."
Everleigh shook her head lightly. "Someone is controlling him."
"How do you know?"
"His eyes… What is his natural eye color?"
"Green."
"They were blue before… he's under the control of the scepter."
Thor looked up to the sky, his brows furrowing some.
Everleigh looked down. "Cap, you need to get a perimeter set up to keep people out of the way."
"How far do you suggest I put it back?"
"39th!"
"You got it."
Everleigh looked up and began to blast the Chitauri out of the sky.
"You need men in these buildings. There are people inside and they can be running right into the line of fire. You take them to the basement or through the subway, you keep them off the streets. I need a perimeter as far back as 39th."
"Did they listen to you Cap?"
"Yes, they're setting the perimeter up now."
"Good thing to keep people safe now." Everleigh said as she dodged a blast before looking at Thor who was killing some as well. "We're going to need a miracle."
