Chapter 33

Steve walked with Everleigh into the hospital slowly dressed in civilian clothes. He went to the vending machine to see that the flash drive he had been given was gone.

Natasha appeared behind the two of them chewing gum.

Steve shoved Natasha into a room in anger.

"Steve, what the hell are you doing?" Everleigh questioned, frustrated as she quickly followed him into the room.

"Where is it?" Steve questioned Natasha frustrated. He was trusted with that by Nick.

"Safe." Natasha replied easily.

"Do better!"

"Where did you get it?"

"Why would I tell you?"

"Fury gave it to you. Why?"

"What's on it?"

"I don't know."

"Stop lying!"

"I only act like I know everything, Rogers."

"I bet you knew Fury hired the pirates, didn't you?"

Everleigh looked at Steve in anger. How could he think such a thing?

"Well, it makes sense. The ship was dirty, Fury needed a way in, so do you."

"I'm not gonna ask you again."

"I know who killed Fury. Most of the intelligence community doesn't believe he exists, the ones who do call him the Winter Soldier. He's credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last fifty years."

"So he's a ghost story."

"Five years ago I was escorting a nuclear engineer out of Iran, somebody shot out my tires near Odessa. We lost control, went straight over a cliff, I pulled us out, but the Winter Soldier was there. I was covering my engineer, so he shot him straight through me." She pulled up her shirt to show the scar that was on the side of her stomach. "Soviet slug, no rifling. Bye-bye bikinis."

"Yeah, I bet you look terrible in them now."

"Going after him is a full dead end." Everleigh said, shaking her head. "He's a ghost, pretty much. No matter how much Shield tries there is no way to get a lock down on him."

Natasha held up the flash drive to Steve.

Steve took the flash drive from her. "Well, let's find out what the ghost wants."

"We're going to have to be careful. We can't have someone suspect is in anyway. I have a feeling that whatever is going on is deeper than any of us know." Everleigh said softly.

Natasha nodded her head knowing that Everleigh was trying her best to explain things. She had a feeling that she was right and whatever it was it was big.

CAWSCAWS

Steve and Natasha went to the mall disguised as a couple. Everleigh followed slowly her form changed into a red haired teenager.

"First rule of going on the run is, don't run, walk." Natasha explained to Steve.

"If I run in these shoes, they're gonna fall off." Steve said as they went into a Mac store to use a computer.

"The drive has a Level Six homing program, so as soon as we boot up SHIELD will know exactly where we are."

"How much time do we have?"

"Uh...about nine minutes from…" she put the flag drive into a MacBook pro. "Now. Fury was right about that ship, somebody's trying to hide something. This drive is protected by some sort of AI, it keeps rewriting itself to counter my commands."

"Can you override it?"

"The person who developed this is slightly smarter than me. Slightly. I'm gonna try running a tracer. This is a program that SHIELD developed to track hostile malware, so if we can't read the file, maybe we can find out where it came from."

Everleigh took a breath. "And hopefully it is a good sign that we need it." She said softly as she shifted a little on her feet messing with her fingerless gloves that she had on her hands.

An employee came up to them with a smile on his face. "Can I help you guys with anything?"

"Oh, no. My fiancé was just helping me with some honeymoon destinations. And my cousin is helping as well." Natasha said, gesturing to Everleigh.

"Right! We're getting married."

"Congratulations. Where do you guys thinking about going?"

Steve looked at the monitor and saw the signal was traced to New Jersey. "New Jersey."

"Oh." The employee looked at Steve for a moment. "I have the exact same glasses."

"Wow, you two are practically twins." Everleigh said, shifting a little as she crossed her arms slightly.

"Yeah, I wish. Specimen. Uh...if you guys need anything, I've been Aaron."

"Thank you. You said nine minutes, come on." Steve said, looking over concerned at Natasha.

"Shh, relax. Got it."

They saw the signal was coming from Wheaton, NJ. "You know it?"

"I used to. Let's go." Steve quickly grabbed the flashdrive from the computer and the three of them walked out of the store. "Standard tac-team. Two behind, to across, two coming straight at us. If they make us, I'll engage, you hit the south escalator to the metro."

Two agents came right towards them.

"Shut up and put your arm around me, laugh at something I said."

"What?"

"Laugh." Everleigh snapped softly.

Steve quickly put his arm around Natasha and laughed.

Everleigh shyly looked down shifting a little bit since no one would notice who she was. She then looked at Steve and Natasha. She whistled a soft whistle causing the two of them to look at her. "We've got incoming."

"Kiss me."

"What?"

"Public displays of affection make people very uncomfortable."

"Yes, they do."

Everleigh rolled her eyes.

Natasha quickly pulled Steve's head down and kissed him, making Rumlow look away as he went past them on the escalator. She pulled away from him looking at Steve. "You still uncomfortable?"

"It's not exactly the word I would use."

Everleigh let out a soft chuckle as she shook her head lightly. "Take it slow." Everleigh said as she moved.

"Where are you going?" Steve questioned softly, looking rather concerned.

Everleigh turned her head to look at Steve. "You two hang low for right now… I'm getting us a ride." She said before walking out of the mall.

Steve took a sharp breath between his teeth. "What… What happened to her. She wouldn't be one to go with grandtheft."

Natasha pursed her lips together. "She's been like that for some time ever since she had returned from Asgard."

"Isn't that where Thor is from."

Natasha nodded her head. "Something happened and she won't tell anyone what it was."

"She wouldn't willingly steal a car."

Natasha shrugged her shoulders lightly unsure.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This is the end of Chapter 33. I know I'm still following the movies but I'm trying my best to add in stuff so it kind of flows with my character inserted. I hope that you all enjoyed it. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. We're getting closer to the end of this part and closer to the chapter that is purely written for fun and not following any script or movie. Until next time.
