Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 41 of God of Lies and Mischief and the Woman of Many Faces. Thank you to all of those who have left reviews and have kept up with this story. I have to say that this is my longest story that I've written to date. And I have to say that I'm enjoying it a lot. We're actually at the stepping point of a very own chapter written away from the movies. And I think that you all will enjoy this. I hope so. This is just kind of a breather for between movies and I don't know why I hadn't thought of this before. I hope that you guys enjoy this chapter before we start the next movie which is Avengers Age of Ultron. And I'm excited to start on that movie as well. Since there is a lot to work with in that movie. Without further ado Chapter 41.

Chapter 41

Everleigh let out a soft breath as she ran her hand through her now black hair. She had been alone for a little over a month. She had been ignoring her phone and her cell phone. She didn't want to be bothered due to the fact that she needed to be alone for a while. She knew that she wasn't in the best of shape due to the fact of seeing Loki pass away when she had tried to save him. And she deemed that she needed to punish herself for it. She should've been able to stop him from dying.

Her blue eyes slowly slid open when her home telephone began to ring. She took a soft breath as she didn't even bother to move from her seat. She heard the beep of it going to her voicemail.

"This is Everleigh Vincin, please leave your name and number and I'll get back to you shortly." Everleigh's happy voice rang out over the recording.

Everleigh winced at how happy she truly was when she had recorded that message.

"Leigh, it's Nat. This is the 20th voicemail I've left for you." Natasha let out a soft sigh sounding fully concerned about the younger woman. "I know you wanted time away, but that doesn't mean to ignore everyone's messages."

Everleigh let out a breath, closing her eyes again as Natasha continued to talk.

"Clint, Steve, Sam, heck even Tony has tried to call you, and you ignore every single one of us. I know you might think that you need to do whatever on your own, but you really don't have to. I know you went through something when you went to Asgard. But is it Thor? Or his brother that is causing you this much agony? Please just call one of us to let us know that you are alright. Bye."

Everleigh slowly got up to her feet and went to her answering machine. She then pressed a few buttons to delete the message. "Sorry Nat, but I'm not ready yet." She said softly as she moved back from the answering machine and walked back slowly to her chair that she had previously been sitting in. She slowed when she felt a peak of magic. She blinked a few times in confusion and turned sharply from her chair and rushed out of her home. She ran down the stairs looking around frantically. She hadn't felt magic like that in quite some time and the last time that she had felt it was when she had seen Loki before he had passed away.

Her eyes widened when she saw green swirling magic around in her front yard. "No…" She whispered softly as she looked out at the green magic.

The green swirling magic dissipated and the man that she had thought that had died stood there proudly.

Everleigh shakily rushed down the stairs and right into her front yard.

"Pet so wonderful to see you again." Loki said with a smile.

Everleigh's hand suddenly connected with his cheek harshly causing him to fall to the grass.

Loki looked up at her with wide eyes. "Bloody hell woman what was that for?"

Everleigh sank to her knees as tears slid down her cheeks as she tried to hit him, missing him every time her hand shot out to hit him.

Loki moved back trying to avoid getting hit by Everleigh's fists. He suddenly grasped her hands in his to keep her from hitting him. "Pet…"

"You died!" She shouted as she struggled against him as he held her to keep her front hurting him.

"I didn't die. I faked my death."

"I mourned you!" She said as she got out of his hold smacking him.

"It's not like I mean to hurt you."

"The hell you didn't." Everleigh said, narrowing her eyes.

"I didn't think that you would be this upset…"

"You didn't think Loki! I watched you die! You don't know what that does to a person. I tried to save your life and my magic couldn't even save you." Everleigh said, rather frustrated pushing herself back from Loki.

"You couldn't have cared for me that much." Loki said, shaking his head.

"You proved yourself to me, Loki. And your brother by saving me from the Aether." Everleigh said, wrapping her arms around herself as she tried her best to not cry.

Loki took a good look at her. He was so used to her blonde hair, and this black hair was throwing him off. "Your hair."

Everleigh let out a breath and changed it back to blonde easily.

Loki blinked a few times. "Why was it black?"

"I was mourning for you Loki. You didn't care if you hurt someone…" Tears came to her blue eyes. "How could you do such a thing?"

"I was better off dead wasn't I?"

Everleigh shook her head lightly. "No, you weren't. You thought I didn't need to know that nothing happened to you, that you were alive and well… why would you let people mourn you…" She took a soft breath. "You nearly destroyed me and Thor with this stunt."

Loki let out a breath. "I deeply apologize."

"What have you been doing Loki?" She asked softly as she looked at him.

"I've been working in my father's place…"

"As the King of Asgard… then where is your father?"

"Here, on Midgard."

"You banished him here?"

"It's not like he would have willingly left me the throne."

Everleigh let out a breath. "You wanted to rule the Earth through mind control. You think you have a glorious purpose in ruling Asgard? Did you even want the throne? You can't tell me that yes you did." Everleigh shook her head softly. "After everything that happened with your father's dislike of you… not believing that you were mind controlled…" She let out another soft breath rubbing her mouth softly.

"I want to prove myself to my father."

"Taking his place Loki? You can't prove yourself to him if he's down here."

Loki put his hands on her shoulders trying to calm her down. "You act like you care…"

"Because I do care." Everleigh said softly, looking away from him. "I knew you were innocent of what you did. No matter if no one wanting to believe me other than your mother and Thor." She shook her head lightly softly. "I care for you Loki."

Loki blinked a few times in confusion. "But why?"

"Because you showed you cared when I had the Aether inside of me and was afraid that I would die."

Loki took a soft breath. "It would be the worst death possible."

"And I have to thank you for helping me."

Loki squeezed her shoulders softly. "I'm sorry for making you think I was dead."

"I accept your apology."

"But you have to promise me something…"

"And what's that?" She questioned softly.

"Do not tell Thor I'm alive."

"What? You don't want me to tell Thor?"

"You have to pretend that I'm still very much dead."

Everleigh let out a breath and shook her head lightly. "Fine." She admitted softly not liking the idea that Loki was thinking it that way.

"I should go." He admitted softly.

Everleigh watched him vanish in a flurry of green magic. She let out a soft breath and shook her head lightly. She should have known that Loki would be very stubborn with the whole thing. The question was how was she going to hide the fact that she knew he was still alive from Thor? She let out a breath and slowly went back inside of her home. She leaned against the door sadly. What one earth did she get herself into.
