Chapter 60

Everleigh sat in a cathedral that was packed full of mourners. She sat next to Sam as the choir sang. She turned her head a little seeing Steve as one of the six pallbearers. She looked down, pursing her lips together.

Sam's hand went to her hand and grasped it softly in his own hand.

Everleigh looked up at Sam.

Sam gave her a small weak smile, squeezing her hand softly.

Steve slowly came back to the pew where Sam and Everleigh were sitting. He joined the two of them sitting next to Sam sandwiching him in between him and Everleigh.

"And now, I would like to invite Sharon Carter to come up and say a few words." The priest said softly.

Sharon slowly walked up to the podium.

Steve looked down not even noticing Sharon walk up to the podium.

Sam nudged Steve.

Steve looked up to see Sharon, who was looking at him.

Sharon took a breath, stealing her nerves to begin talking. "Margaret Carter was known to most as a founder of SHIELD . . . but I just knew her as Aunt Peggy."

Steve took a surprised breath knowing exactly who Sharon was now.

"She had a photograph in her office. Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to. Which is why I never told anyone we were related." She looked at Steve directly before continuing on with her speech. "I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either. And she said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move . . . it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in they eye and say " No, you move.""

CIVILWAR

Everleigh was in the back watching Steve with a worried gaze. She noticed that Natasha was in the room and walking slowly towards Steve.

"When I came out of the ice, I thought everyone I had known was gone. Then I found out that she was alive. I was just lucky to have her." Steve admitted as Natasha and Everleigh walked up to him.

"She had you back, too." Natasha said softly.

"Who else signed?" Steve questioned who signed the Accords.

"Tony. Rhodey. Vision."

"Clint?"

"Says he's retired." Natasha smiled slightly knowing that Clint was pretty much done.

"Wanda?"

"TBD. I'm off to Vienna for the signing of the Accords. There's plenty of room on the jet."

Steve sighed and bowed his head.

"Just because it's the path of least resistance doesn't mean it's the wrong path. Staying together is more important than how we stay together." Natasha took a breath as she looked at Steve.

"What are we giving up to do it?"

Natasha sighed.

He shook his head unconvinced. "I'm sorry, Nat. I can't sign it."

"I know."

"Then what are you doing here?"

"I didn't want you to be alone." She pulled him in for a hug. "Come here."

Everleigh pursed her lips together looking down.

Natasha pulled away from Steve and looked at Everleigh. "What about you, Leigh?" She questioned softly her brow quirking as she looked at the young woman wondering if she would join in for the Accords.

Everleigh looked at her friend. "Vienna?"

Natasha nodded her head slowly.

"I can ride with you." She said softly.

"You're going to sign the Accords?" Steve questioned looking at Everleigh.

Everleigh looked over at Steve. "I want to see if it is worth signing. I don't plan on signing it if it ruins things for me." She said softly. "And who says I'm going as myself." She suddenly shifted to dark hair and bright honey colored eyes.

Steve let out a soft chuckle. "Leave it to you, to use your enhancement."

Everleigh let out a soft chuckle laughing softly. "Well I'm an agent for a reason." She admitted softly before turning her attention to Natasha. "I will go with you. But I'm not about to make the choice on signing just yet." She told Natasha softly.

Natasha nodded her head knowing what Everleigh was thinking.

This is the end of Chapter 60. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I know that there is not much going on in this chapter. But I thought that Peggy's funeral needed its own chapter and then having Everleigh go to Vienna with Natasha. I do apologize that this chapter is short. I tried to make it as long as I could, but it didn't work out as well as I had hoped. Do you think Everleigh will sign the Accords or will she not sign them? Please leave a review with what you think and your predictions. I will update next Monday. Until next time.
