Chapter 70
Everleigh sat alone in her home with her hands grasped together on her lap. Her brows furrowed together in concern. She hadn't heard much of a word from anyone after what had happened. She expected to not hear from Clint or Sam due to them being incarcerated. She knew that Steve probably wouldn't contact her since he was most likely a wanted man. And Natasha, she wasn't sure if she would ever hear from the redhead again. She let out a breath and shook her head lightly. She hated what her life had become, but she wasn't about to change it for anything in the world. She after all was free, but she couldn't be in the form that everyone knew her as.
She slowly got up out of her chair and ran her hand through her now red hair. She slowly headed out of her home and walked down the few steps that led up to her front porch. She slowly walked over to the tree that was on her land. She slowly reached up into the lower branches and picked an apple letting out a soft breath. She turned her head when she heard the phone ringing from inside. She slowly went back inside of her home and looked at the caller id. She blinked a few times seeing that it was a number that she didn't know. She let out a breath and slowly picked up the phone. "Hello?" She said softly gripping her home phone tightly in her hand.
"Leigh." A familiar voice rang over the other end.
Everleigh let out a soft breath of relief. "Steve."
"Hey I hate to ask how are you doing?" Steve asked, hoping he wasn't pushing the young woman in giving him a lie.
Everleigh let out a soft laugh. "Living a quiet life at home. Keeping myself well hidden from everyone."
"That's good, no one has tried to come after you?"
"As far as I know, no, no one has tried to come after me, but they wouldn't try anyways." She let out a breath. "Where are you?"
"Currently I'm in Wakanda." Steve admitted softly to the young woman knowing that she would want to know where he was and that he was safe.
Everleigh hummed softly. "You're getting Bucky some help aren't you?"
Steve let out a breath. "That's the plan anyways. He doesn't feel comfortable with being out in the world."
Everleigh slowly sat down on her chair taking a soft breath. "Honestly with everything that he's been through Steve, honestly I don't blame him."
"Are you sure that you made the right choice in helping us?"
"Yes, Steve, I did make the right choice." She let out a soft breath leaning back in her seat rubbing her face softly.
"You kind of vanished when Tony found out about the video." Steve admitted kind of hurt that she vanished and he couldn't find her. He was rather concerned about her, but he couldn't call until he was out of dodge and safe and sound.
Everleigh pinched the bridge of her nose. "Steve, that was something that I couldn't get involved in." She admitted softly letting out the breath she had taken in. She slowly opened her eyes in thought. "I know that you guys needed me, but from what I saw… that last bit that Zemo had done… it did more damage than what we could ever come through…"
"I know that you really didn't want to get involved with what happened."
"Steve, honestly, don't worry about it. I'm sure you would do the same if I was under mind control and you knew that I would never do such a thing."
Steve took a soft breath. "You know you're right about that." Steve let out a soft chuckle.
"Of course I am, you're that kind of person."
Steve let out another soft laugh. "You promise to lay low?"
"Of course I'm going to lay low. I need to be because of Ross sending guard dogs after everyone. Plus if I go into town I look completely different than what I do when I'm in the form everyone knows me in."
"Okay."
"And where will you go?" She asked softly, gripping her phone softly.
"It'll be some time before I can get a hold of you again." Steve admitted softly to her.
Everleigh let out a soft breath. "You're going underground pretty much."
"I don't have much of a choice. Like you said Ross has people looking for us and we need to be smart about the whole thing."
"Yeah, true."
"You just be careful out there."
"You too."
Everleigh hung up her phone letting out a soft breath. She had to admit that it was nice to hear from Steve again to at least let her know that they were alright. She was glad that he asked her if she was alright. She could only hope that things would smooth over in time. She couldn't help but feel her heart breaking for her team. This wasn't meant to happen.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This is the end of Chapter 70. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I pretty much should say that this was an OG chapter because it really didn't have anything with Civil War in it except for stating where Steve was at the time. I hope that this chapter turned out well. I tried my best with it. I am still trying my best with trying to write out OG chapters and sometimes they turn a wee bit wonky when I try to write them out. Which I don't know why that happens since I usually have the chapter planned out to an extent. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. Reviews help me keep on going when it comes to writing. I'll update on Monday as long as I have chapters to post which I think will be alright since I'm far ahead when it comes to writing them out. Until next time.
