Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 90 of God of Lies and Mischief and the Woman of Many Faces. I never thought that I would make it this far in writing this story. I have to admit that I'm so happy to see that everyone is enjoying this story. I hope that you guys enjoy this next chapter. Everleigh won't find out about Loki till she sees Thor again. Without further ado Chapter 90. ENJOY!
Chapter 90
Bruce looked over at Everleigh whose hair was constantly changing colors just like her eyes and skin tone. He knew that the young woman was worried about what was going on.
Everleigh watched Steven walk through a portal that he had opened up leading to somewhere to talk to someone.
"Tony Stark, I'm Doctor Stephen Strange. I need you to come with me. Oh, uh, congratulations on the wedding, by the way."
Tony blinked a few times wondering who this man was and how he knew him. "I'm sorry, you giving out tickets or something?"
"We need your help. Look, it's not overselling to say that the fate of the universe is at stake."
"And who's "we"?"
Bruce and Everleigh slowly stepped out behind Doctor Strange. Bruce bit his lower lip as he looked at his friend. "Hey, Tony."
Tony looked at the two of them surprised. He hadn't seen Everleigh since the incident with Steve and Bucky and hadn't seen Bruce since the battle in Sokovia. "Bruce. Everleigh."
"Pepper."
"Hi," Pepper said softly, rather confused about seeing them both there.
"You okay?"
Bruce moved toward Tony pulling him into a hug without saying a single word.
Everleigh swallowed the lump in her throat knowing that this wasn't easy on anyone at that moment. With what had happened onboard the Asgardian ship they had no idea what happened to Thor and Loki or if they were even still alive. "We should talk about this away from prying eyes. Sorry Pepper… I promise you'll have Tony back asap." She said softly.
Pepper noticed the look on the young woman's face and wasn't phased by her hair and eyes changing colors. She knew that something was very wrong if the young woman was having a hard time with phasing through hair, eye, and skin color as little as a few moments each color.
INFINITYWAR
Wong used his magic skills to show everyone the universe and five out of six Infinity stones. "From the dawn of the universe, there was nothing. Then, boom! The Big Bang sent six elemental crystals, hurdling across the virgin universe. These Infinity Stones each control an essential aspect of existence."
"Space. Reality. Power. Soul. Mind. And Time." Steven said, opening the Eye of Agamotto and revealing the green stone.
"Tell me his name again," Tony said, pinching the bridge of his nose trying to catch up on everything.
"Thanos. He's a plague, Tony. He invades planets, he takes what he wants, and wipes out half the population. He sent Loki! The attack on New York, that's him!" Bruce explained getting rather nervous about the whole thing. He was afraid of what would happen to their world if Thanos got there.
Everleigh looked down sadly knowing that Thanos had messed with Loki's mind, meaning that everything that happened in New York, wasn't Loki's fault, it was Thanos's fault for everything that had happened during that time.
Tony paced around a little bit thinking. "This is him...What's our timeline?"
"No telling. He has the Power and Space Stones, which already makes him the strongest creature in the whole universe! If he gets his hands, on all six Stones, Tony…"
"He can destroy life on a scale hitherto undreamt of." Steve cut off what Bruce was saying.
Tony leaned against the cauldron in the room stretching casually. "Did you seriously just say "hitherto undreamt of"?"
"Are you seriously leaning on the Cauldron of the Cosmos?"
"Is that what this is...?"
Everleigh bit her lip to keep herself from laughing as Steven's cloak hit Tony in the arm to get him off of the cauldron.
"I'm going to allow that. If Thanos needs all six, why don't we just stick this one down the garbage disposal?" Tony said slightly offended by what the cloak had done.
"No can do," Steven said, shaking his head.
"We swore an oath to protect the Time Stone. With our lives." Wong explained to them.
"And I swore off dairy, but then, Ben Jerry's named a flavor after me, so…"
"Stark Raving Hazelnuts."
"It's not bad." Tony mused with a smile.
"A bit chalky."
"A Hunka-Hulka Burning Fudge is our favorite," Wong explained.
"That's a thing?" Bruce questioned his brows furrowed.
"Yes, it was very much a thing. They had many types of flavors to honor us." Everleigh said letting out a breath.
Tony waved his hand frustrated. "Whatever. The point is: Things change."
"Our oath to protect the Time Stone cannot change. This Stone may be the best chance we have against Thanos." Steven said easily knowing that it could be very true that they couldn't handle too much without it.
"And still conversely, it may also be his best chance against us."
"Well, if we don't do our jobs."
"What is your job exactly, besides making balloon animals?"
"Protecting your reality, douchebag."
Everleigh groaned, rubbing her temples some.
"Okay, guys, can we quickly cable this discussion right now? The fact is that we have the Stone. We know where it is. Vision is out there somewhere with the Mind Stone, and we have to find him now." Bruce said, breaking the little fight that Tony and Steven were in.
"Yeah, that's the thing," Tony said rubbing his neck awkwardly knowing that this wasn't a good thing.
"What do you mean?"
"Two weeks ago, Vision turned off his transponder. He's offline."
Everleigh snapped her head up concerned. She groaned out in frustration. This wasn't a good sign that a super bot had gotten out and away from Tony. Who knows what type of trouble they would end up getting into?
"What?! Tony, you lost another super bot?!"
"I didn't lose him. He's more than that. He's evolving."
"Who could find Vision, then?" Steven questioned his brow quirking a bit wondering if Tony would be able to find someone to find Vision.
"Shit. Probably Steve Rogers."
Steven let out a breath of frustration. "Oh, great."
"Maybe. But…"
"Call him," Bruce said cutting Tony off not knowing what had happened while he was gone.
"It's not that easy. God, we haven't caught up in a spell, have we?"
Bruce shook his head. "No."
"The Avengers broke up. We're toast."
"Broke up? Like a band? Like The Beatles?"
"Cap and I fell out hard. We're not on speaking terms."
"Tony, listen to me. Thor's gone. Thanos is coming. It doesn't matter who you're talking to or not."
"If Tony doesn't call I will."
Tony turned his attention to Everleigh. "That's right you still buddy with Cap."
Everleigh scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Tony, you don't get a say in this."
"You're retired, Blue Witch."
Everleigh shook her head lightly. "I'll never retire because someone says we shouldn't be heroes… Tony, look what it did to us… look what it did to you. You're under someone else's control that doesn't know the meaning of right and wrong."
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This is the end of Chapter 90. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best to make this chapter as long as I could, which I think I did a pretty good job with. I hope that I did well with this chapter. I know that I'm going to have a bit of trouble with it because Everleigh is going to be so torn up by the time Thor shows up without Loki to fight. I think she'll figure it out if Thor is alone. Please leave a review and let me know what you guys think. I'm going to try to update on Monday to keep up with the schedule that I've given myself. If I do miss an update I do apologize. Life does get in the way. Until next time.
