Chapter 95
Everleigh pulled her car up outside of the Avengers Compound after not joining everyone there. She refused to come by telling everyone that she needed time to herself. She got out of her car and heard the noise of something being brought in. She walks quickly meeting up with Steve, Natasha, Bruce, and Rhodey. Her brows furrowed together as she saw someone landing a spacecraft on their lawn.
Natasha looked over at the now black haired woman. "Good to see you back."
Everleigh swallowed the lump in her throat. "Sorry." She softly her voice cracking a little bit as she looked over at Natasha. She knew that Natasha was worried about her with all of the phone calls that she had gotten at home.
The entry hatch opened up, and Tony and Nebula came out of the ship. Nebula held up Tony.
Steve ran forward to help him stand up.
Tony gripped onto Steve's arm as he reached out for him. "Couldn't stop him."
"Neither could I." Steve said, shaking his head lightly knowing that this wasn't the thing that Tony wanted to hear, but it needed to be said.
"I lost the kid."
"Tony, we lost."
"Is, uh...?" Tony questioned struggling to ask about his fiancee.
Pepper came out of the building with tears in her eyes. "Oh, my God! Oh, my God!" She said as she pulled Tony into an embrace.
"It's okay."
Everleigh swallowed the lump in her throat. At least they didn't lose Tony. But now they needed to figure out what they were going to do next.
ENDGAME
Everleigh sat in the chair in the living room area with her knees brought up to her chest.
Tony sat at the table with his hands resting on it trying to keep himself upright.
A holographic casualty report listed everyone with their faces that were lost in the snap.
"It's been 23 days since Thanos came to Earth." Rhodey explained to everyone in the room.
"World governments are in pieces. The parts that are still working are trying to take a census. And it looks like he did... he did exactly what he said he was gonna do. Thanos wiped out fifty percent of all living creatures." Natasha said as she crossed her arms.
"Where is he now? Where?" Tony questioned looking up rather sleepily.
"We don't know. He just opened a portal and walked through." Steve explained to Tony knowing that was the only thing that they knew.
Tony's eyes slid over to Thor who looked rather sullen sitting on a bench all by himself. "What's wrong with him?"
"Oh, he's pissed. He thinks he failed. Which of course he did, but you know there's a lot of that's going around, ain't there?" Rocket said, speaking up.
Tony's eyes slid over to Rocket. "Honestly, until this exact second, I literally thought you were a Build-A-Bear."
"Maybe I am." Rocket said, letting out a breath.
"We've been hunting Thanos for three weeks now. Deep Space scans, and satellites, and we got nothing. Tony, you fought him." Steve said softly.
"Who told you that? I didn't fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while the Bleecker Street Magician gave away the store. That's what happened. There was no fight."
"Okay."
"He's unbeatable."
"Did he give you any clues, any coordinates, anything?"
"Pfft! I saw this coming a few years back. I had a vision. I didn't wanna believe it. Thought I was dreaming." Tony said in irritation.
"Tony, I'm gonna need you to focus."
"And I needed you. As in past tense. That trumps what you need. It's too late buddy. Sorry. You know what I need?" Tony stood up pushing things off of the table with a clatter.
Everleigh closed her eyes as things hit the floor making a terrible sound.
"I need to shave. And I believe I remember telling all you…" Tony went for Steve.
Rhodey quickly moved to stop Tony. "Tony, Tony, Tony!"
"Alive and otherwise what we needed was a suit of armor around the world! Remember that? Whether it impacted our precious freedoms or not- that's what we needed!"
"Well, that didn't work out, did it?" Steve questioned looking at Tony.
"I said, "we'd lose". You said, "We'll do that together too." And guess what, Cap? We lost. And you weren't there. But that's what we do, right? Our best work after the fact? We're the Avengers, we're the Avengers. Not the Pre-avengers."
"Okay."
"Right?"
"You made your point. Just sit down."
Everleigh pursed her lips together into a thin line. She knew that Tony was very distraught about what had happened to Peter. She didn't blame him for being that emotional. Hell they were all emotional.
"Okay…"
"Okay?" Rhodey questioned, unsure of what to really do. He couldn't really let Tony go just in case he decided to go off again.
"Nah, nah. Here's my point. You know what?" Tony said, waving his hands knowing that this needed to be said and done.
"Tony, you're sick."
"She's great, by the way." Tony said, referring to Carol who had come in and saved him from death.
"Sit down. Sit." Rhodey said as he tried to get Tony to sit back down in his wheelchair that he was in before.
"We need you. You're new blood. Bunch of tired old mules!" Tony walked right up to Steve's face seething in anger. "I got nothing for you, Cap! I got no coordinates, no clues, no strategies, no options. Zero. Zip. Nada. No trust. Liar."
Steve was phased by Tony's words. It hurt to know that Tony was calling him a liar.
Tony ripped out his arc reactor from his chest and shoved it into Steve's hand. "Here, take this. You find him, and you put that on. You hide." Tony said, falling to the ground.
Steve quickly went to his side. "Tony!"
"I'm fine. I…" Tony fell into a heap unconscious.
Everleigh took a breath shaking her head. "I'll take him to his room." She said softly as she waved her hands and he was enveloped into a bright blue aura. She let out a breath as she moved slowly taking him back towards his room where he had been in before. She knew that Tony needed to rest and regain his strength that he had lost over time. She honestly didn't blame him for being the way that he was.
She carefully put him into the bed letting out a soft breath. She used her powers to move the blanket over him as Bruce came into the room.
"You know we were really worried about you." Bruce said as he moved around her.
"Can we talk about this later please?" She asked softly.
"Of course."
Everleigh took a breath as she moved out of the room running her hand through her black hair.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This is the end of Chapter 95. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I've tried my hardest to write this chapter. And yes Everleigh has changed some. I can't tell you if it is going to be for the better or for the worst. But she'll have to take time for herself and try to grow. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews help me keep going when it comes to writing and keeping up with the schedule that I have. I want to see where you guys think Everleigh's adventure should end or if it should end. I'm just trying to figure it all out as I write this. I will update on Monday. Until next time.
