Chapter 98

Everleigh sadly walked into the Avengers Facility, her hair was still a fairly inky black cut extremely short in a pixie cut hair cut, her blue eyes were vacant after 5 years of not having anyone that they called friends back. She saw Natasha was cutting sandwiches up as she was getting updates from everyone around the world and even that in space.

"Yeah, we boarded that highly suspect warship Danvers pinged." Rocket explained as he was in a hologram with Nebula.

"It was an infectious garbage scowl." Nebula explained rather frustratedly what they had to do.

"So, thanks for the hot tip." Rocket said, turning to Carol's hologram with a smirk.

"Well, you were closer." Carol pointed out like it was the easiest thing for them to do instead of her.

"Yeah. And now we smell like garbage."

Natasha turned her attention to Okoye. "You get a reading on those tremors?"

"It was a mild subduction under the African plate." Okoye said calmly.

Everleigh moved closer, crossing her arms slightly.

"Do we have a visual? How are we handling it?"

"Nat, it's an earthquake under the ocean. We handle it by not handling it."

Natasha let out a soft breath turning to Carol. "Carol, are we seeing you here next month?"

"Not likely." Carol said, shaking her head lightly.

"What, you're gonna get another haircut?" Rocket questioned looking over at Carol's hologram.

"Listen fur-face, I'm covering a lot of territory. The things that are happening on Earth are happening everywhere, on thousands of planets." Carol said irritated with Rocket.

"All right, all right, that's a good point. That's a good point."

"So you might not see me for a long time."

Natasha let out a soft breath. "Alright. Uh, well. This channel is always active. So, if anything goes sideways... anyone's making trouble where they shouldn't... comes through me."

Okoye agreed in her language.

"Okay." Rocket said with a nod of his head.

"Alright." Natasha said, letting out a soft breath.

One by one they all end their calls.

Carol looked at Rhodey. "Good luck." She said before ending her call.

Natasha sat down exhausted.

Everleigh crossed her arms slightly, coming closer and sitting down in one of the chairs.

Natasha looked up seeing Everleigh but noticing that Rhodey was still on the call. "Where are you?"

"Mexico. The Federales found a room full of bodies. Looks like a bunch of cartel guys. Never even had the chance to get their guns off."

"It's probably a rival gang."

"Except it isn't."

Natasha blinked a few times realizing something.

"It's definitely Barton. What he's done here, what he's been doing for the last few years... I mean, the scene where he left…"

Tears came to Natasha's eyes. She was sad that she couldn't be there for Clint. She was upset that he couldn't come to them. They were all dealing with loss, it wasn't just him. But she understood where he came from.

"I gotta tell you, there's a part of me that doesn't even want to find him."

She slowly ate her meal. "Will you find out where he's going next?"

"Nat…"

"Please."

"Okay." Rhodey said before cutting off his call.

Natasha tried her best to hold her tears back but was failing miserably.

"Nat, if he doesn't want to be found, we'll have to leave him be." Everleigh said softly.

Natasha wiped her tears away looking at the younger woman. "You've been gone for a while."

Everleigh cleared her throat softly. "I have to apologize for that." She said softly, looking down. "I just needed…"

"Leigh you weren't the only one that lost someone, we all did." Natasha said, shaking her head softly as tears continued to roll down her cheeks.

Everleigh felt her eyes sting as tears came to her eyes.

"You know I'd offer to cook you two dinner, but you two seem pretty miserable already." Steve said slumping against the bookshelf.

Natasha wiped her tears seeing that Everleigh was crying now. Natasha cleared her throat. "You here to do your laundry?"

"And to see friends."

"Clearly, your friends are fine." Natasha mused softly.

"You know I saw a pod of whales when I was coming up the bridge."

"In the Hudson?" Everleigh questioned softly, her voice coming out fairly softly.

"There's fewer ships, cleaner water."

"You know, if you're about to tell me to look on the bright side. Um... I'm about you to hit you in the head with a peanut butter sandwich." Natasha said before smiling a little jokingly.

Steve smiled softly. "Sorry. Force of habit." Steve said, throwing his jacket down before sitting down in another chair looking at the two women. "You know, I keep telling everybody they should move on and... grow. Some do. But not us."

"If I move on, who does this?" Natasha questioned looking at Steve. "And do what Everleigh has done for the last five years staying away from everyone."

Everleigh winced at Natasha's words.

"Maybe it doesn't need to be done."

Natasha was very much deeper in her own thoughts of everything. "I used to have nothing. And then I got this. This job... this family. And I was... I was better because of it. And even though... they're gone... I'm still trying to be better."

"I think we need to get a life."

Natasha smiled. "You first."

Everleigh blinked a few times in surprise when a camera feed popped up before them. Her brows furrowed, knowing exactly who that was. Scott was there and how? Was he even real?

"Oh! Hi. Hi! Is anyone home? This is Scott Lang. We met a few years ago, at the airport? In Germany? I got really big, and I had my mask on. You wouldn't recognize me." Scott said, trying to get into the Avengers Compound.

Steve got up to his feet. "Is this an old message?"

Natasha got up to her feet. "It's the front gate."

"There is no way that this is an old message… no one could be that cruel, not even Tony even if he's been very upset for the last five years of how everything happened. I really think that is Ant-Man." Everleigh said softly, running her hand through her short hair.

"Ant-Man? Ant-Man, I know you know that. I need to talk to you guys." Scott said, trying to get them to let him in so they could talk.

Everleigh got up to her feet. "I'm going to let him in… hopefully we can figure out what he knows." She said moving away from the two of them.

Steve looked over at Natasha. "I can tell she's still struggling from what happened."

"We all are." Natasha said softly letting out a soft breath. "She could've been here."

"I think we know that Leigh deals with everything including loss on her own… She's like she was when we were up against Bucky… when he was under the control of Hydra…"

Natasha let out a soft breath. "According to what Thor said… it sounded like she got fairly close to Loki while they were up on Asgard trying to stop his sister from ruining everything… But now knowing that Loki is gone… she hasn't been the same since." Natasha said softly, shaking her head lightly.

Steve let out a soft breath crossing his arms. "Sounds like she cared for him…"

"If she did she wouldn't admit it." Natasha said softly knowing that Everleigh was different and she had a feeling that Everleigh probably never would be the fun and chipper girl she once was.

This is the end of Chapter 98. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best with writing this chapter out. I know we don't really know what happened to Everleigh during these five years. But I think there will be flashbacks to it if you guys would want to see what happened with Everleigh during the five years. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. Reviews help me keep going when it comes to writing. I will update on Monday to keep to my schedule that I have up. Until next time.
