Chapter 99

Scott paced around worriedly in front of Steve, Natasha, and Everleigh.

Everleigh's brows furrowed together knowing that Scott usually wasn't like this at all. Something had to be up.

"Scott. Are you okay?" Steve questioned softly trying to ease Scott out of his thoughts.

"Yeah. I'm fine." Scott said, struggling to ask for something. "Have you ever studied Quantum Physics?" He blurted out looking at the three of them.

Natasha's brow raised. "Only to make conversation."

Everleigh nodded her head in agreement. "Same." She said softly as she crossed her arms.

"Alright. So... five years ago, right before Thanos, I was in a place called the Quantum Realm. The Quantum Realm is like its own microscopic universe. To get in there, you have to be incredibly small. Hope, she's my... She was my…" He struggled to not tell them about his relationship with Hope. "She was supposed to pull me out. And then Thanos happened, and I got stuck in there."

"I'm sorry. That must've been a very long five years." Natasha said, looking at Scott.

"Yeah, but that's just it. It wasn't. For me, it was five hours."

The three of them shared a bewildered look of what Scott had revealed to them.

"See, the rules of the Quantum Realm aren't like they are up here. Everything is unpredictable. Is that anybody's sandwich? I'm starving." Scott moved and picked up Natasha's sandwich and bit into it.

"Scott, what are you talking about?" Steve questioned looking at Scott rather bewildered of what he was talking about.

"What I'm saying is, time works differently in the Quantum Realm. The only problem is right now, we don't have a way to navigate it. But what if we did? I can't stop thinking about it. What if we could somehow control the chaos, and we could navigate it? What if there was a way to enter the Quantum Realm at a certain point in time but then exit at another point in time? Like... Like before Thanos."

"Wait, are you talking about a time machine?"

"No. No, of course not. No, not a time machine. It's more like a... Yeah, a time machine. I know it's crazy. But I can't stop thinking about it. There's gotta be some way... There's gotta be...some w... it's crazy."

"Scott, I get emails from a raccoon, so nothing sounds crazy anymore." Natasha said, looking at Scott.

"So who do we talk to about this?" Scott asked softly, unsure of the idea.

"Tony…" Everleigh said softly, crossing her arms. "He's the only one that would be smart enough to do this."

ENDGAME

"Now, we know what it sounds like…" Scott said after they explained everything to Tony about the plan.

"Tony, after everything you've seen, is anything really impossible?" Steve questioned looking at the older man.

"Quantum fluctuation messes with the Planck Scale, which then triggers the Deutsch Proposition. Can we agree on that?"

Scott, Steve, Everleigh, and Natasha looked at him puzzled.

Tony gave Steve a drink.

"Thank you." Steve said softly.

"In Layman's terms, it means you're not coming home."

"I did." Scott pointed out looking at Tony.

"No, you accidentally survived. It's a billion to one cosmic fluke. And now you wanna pull off a... What do you call it?"

"A time heist?"

"Yeah, a time heist. Of course, why didn't we think of this before? Oh, because it's laughable? Because it's a pipedream?"

"The Stones are in the past. We can go back and get them."

"We can snap our own fingers. We can bring everyone back." Natasha explained knowing that it wouldn't bring everyone back just those who were lost in the snap.

"Or screw it up worse than he already has, right?" Tony questioned looking over at Natasha.

"I don't believe we would." Steve said, shaking his head.

"Gotta say, sometimes I miss that giddy optimism. However, high hopes won't help if there's no logical, tangible way for me to safely execute said time heist. I believe the most likely outcome would be our collective demise."

"Not if we strictly follow the rules of time travel. That means no talking to our past selves, no betting on sporting events -" Scott explained only to get cut off.

"I'm gonna stop you right there, Scott. Are you seriously telling me that your plan to save the universe is based on Back To The Future?"

Scott looked at Tony rather embarrassed. "No."

"Good. You had me worried there. 'Cause that'd be horse shit. That's not how quantum physics works."

"Tony... We have to take a stand." Natasha said softly in hopes that Tony would agree to this.

"We did stand. And yet, here we are."

"I know you got a lot on the line. You got a wife, a daughter. But I lost someone very important to me. A lot of people did." Scott said his voice getting louder as he tried to sell the desperation to Tony. "And now, now we have a chance to bring her back. To bring everyone back. And you're telling me that won't even…"

"That's right, Scott, I won't even. I got a kid."

Morgan ran out to Tony, who picked her up easily. "Mommy told me to come and save you."

"Good job. I'm saved." Tony turned to Steve, Natasha, Scott, and Everleigh. "I wish you'd come here to ask me something else. Anything else. Honestly, I... I missed you guys, it was... Oh, and the table's set for six."

"Tony, I get it. And I'm happy for you, I really am. But this is a second chance." Steve said softly, understanding that Tony had a life now.

"I got my second chance right here, Cap. I can't roll the dice again. If you don't talk shop, you can stay for lunch."

Everleigh shook her head. "We should go Tony. We've overstayed our welcome." She said softly knowing that Tony wasn't going to agree to it.

The three of them followed Everleigh down the path down to the black Audi.

Everleigh stuck her hands in her pockets as she walked slowly.

"He's scared." Natasha said as they walked.

"He's not wrong." Steve admitted softly knowing that Tony wasn't wrong and it was just something that they were going to have to try to do.

"Yeah, but I mean, what are we gonna do? We need him. What, are we gonna stop?" Scott questioned looking at everyone. He was hoping that they weren't going to give up.

"No, I wanna do it right. We're gonna need a really big brain."

Scott pointed to Tony's house. "Bigger than his?"

"Well, there is one as big as his. Bruce." Everleigh said softly, looking at everyone. "But I haven't a clue of where Bruce would be now."

Natasha's lips quirked a little bit. "I know where he is."
