It was a dry sunny morning at Walkerville Elementary, the kids in one of the third grade classrooms were sitting at their desks waiting for their teacher, Ms Frizzle to arrive in the classroom.

"I heard that we're going on a school camping trip to the forest." Ralphie said excitedly. Ralphie Tennelli was an Italian-American boy who had short dark brown hair, round eyes, with a sizeable nose. Ralphie wore a red baseball cap backwards, a green monogrammed t-shirt with a large red R on it, dark green pants, red and white trainers, and white socks.

"Oh great! Another chance to get bitten by bugs while living out of a tent!" Arnold Perlstein sighed as he heard what Ralphie said. Arnold was a Jewish-American boy who had mid length curly red hair, thick red glasses, and a sizeable nose. Arnold wore a long sleeved yellow and white striped shirt with a collar, blue pants, black and white trainers, and blue socks. Despite what Arnold said, the enthusiasm of the other students in the class was not dampened in the slightest, they began to talk excitedly about the upcoming camping trip.

"What's the matter, Arnold? Are you scared of being eaten by a bear?!" Wanda Li joked which Arnold didn't respond to, at least not verbally, instead he rolled his eyes briefly. Wanda was a Chinese-American girl who had dark straight mid length hair, oval eyes, and a small nose. Wanda was dressed in a pink t-shirt, a dark red waistcoat with yellow tulips on the bottom, with red pants, black sandals, and white socks.

"Actually, according to my research, bears should be hibernating at this time of year!" Dorothy Ann Hudson replied. Dorothy Ann corrected her classmate as she read through one of the books from her pink book bag that hung from her left shoulder. Dorothy Ann was a white girl who had blonde hair tied up in a pair of pigtails with dark red hair bands, oval eyes, and a small nose. Dorothy Ann was dressed in a purple sweatshirt, with a short blue pleated skirt, brown trainers with a white sole, and purple socks.

"Well I hope we get to see some interesting plants and animals so I get a chance to sketch them!" Tim Wright said enthusiastically. Tim was an African-American boy who had short dark hair, oval eyes, with a sizeable nose. He wore a blue shirt with a green collar and trim on the waist and cuffs, dark blue pants, purple and black trainers with a white sole, and black socks.

"Just make sure that we don't disturb or upset them!" Phoebe Terese replied. Phoebe was a white girl who had brown hair that reached just above her shoulders held back by a golden headband, with oval eyes and a small nose. Phoebe was dressed in a yellow long sleeved blouse with a collar, red overalls with shoulder straps, brown loafers, and long yellow socks.

"Don't worry. I'm sure we'll be fine as long as Ms Frizzle's with us." Keesha Franklin reassured the other students. Keesha was an African-American girl who had dark brown curly hair tied up in a ponytail behind her head with a maroon hair band, oval eyes, and a small nose. Keesha was dressed in a maroon sweatshirt with a light blue streak that went across the middle of it as well as part of both of the arms, low heeled maroon flats, and dark blue leggings.

"Don't worry, Arnold. We'll protect you from the squirrels and chipmunks!" Carlos Ramon joked which caused the other kids in the classroom to laugh out loud. Carlos was a Mexican-American boy who had short dark hair, oval eyes, and a sizeable nose. Carlos wore a yellow shirt, with a blue hoodie over it, red pants, black and dark blue trainers, and black and white socks. As the students stopped laughing, their teacher, Ms Valerie Frizzle arrived in the classroom. Ms Frizzle had bright orange hair tied up in a bun, oval eyes, and a pointy sloping nose. Ms Frizzle was dressed in her long sleeved purple dress with a white collar and white cuffs and low heeled orange flats. Ms Frizzle was carrying Liz, the Jackson's Chameleon and class pet on her right shoulder.

"Good morning, class." Ms Frizzle greeted her students as she entered the classroom.

"Good morning, Ms Frizzle." The kids replied as their teacher walked up to the front of the classroom.

"Is everyone ready for our camping trip to the local forest in Walkerville?" Ms Frizzle asked her students as she stood at the front of the classroom along with Liz.

"Yeah, I guess so. I'm glad I packed the bug spray." Arnold replied without enthusiasm.

"Yeah, we're ready to go." Carlos grinned as he sat at his desk.

"I'm looking forward to getting outside in the wild, those field trips tend to be a lot of fun." Dorothy Ann responded.

"I wonder what sort of things we'll see when we're in the woods." Keesha said curiously.

"You know, Arnold. Bugs are living things too!" Phoebe chided Arnold for mentioning that he was taking bug spray.

"I wonder if the forest is haunted?!" Ralphie declared in response to what Ms Frizzle said.

"Oh, boy. Here we go with the ghosts again." Tim sighed in response to what Ralphie said.

"Don't be such a bunch of weasley wimps! I'm sure the only scary thing in the forest is the poison mushrooms!" Wanda declared in response to what the other students said.

"Good. Then will you all please follow Liz and I to the school bus." Ms Frizzle instructed as she turned around and walked out of the classroom. The kids stood up from their desks, grabbed their bags, and followed Ms Frizzle and Liz out of the room.

Ms Frizzle, with Liz on her shoulder, led her students down the hallway towards the front entrance to the school. They exited the school through the double doors. In the parking lot, Ms Frizzle led her students over to the Magic School Bus which was parked up nearby.

"When we get to the campsite, I'm going to build a fire pit so that we don't accidentally cause a forest fire." Arnold said as he queued up for the bus with the other kids.

"Come on, I just can't, BEAR to wait any longer to go camping!" Carlos punned which caused the other kids to groan in response.

"CARLOS!" The other kids in the Ms Frizzle's class complained.

"I can't wait to pitch our tent in the middle of the forest." Dorothy Ann said as she waited to get on the bus.

"I bet we're gonna see all sorts of cool stuff in the woods." Keesha declared as she waited to get on the bus.

"I want to have fun too. But we have to make sure we don't damage or disturb any of the plants or animals in the forest." Phoebe reminded the other students.

"I wanna see if there's any Bigfoots living in the woods!" Ralphie grinned enthusiastically.

"I bet there's gonna be all kinds of cool stuff to draw in my sketchbook." Tim said eagerly as he waited to get on the bus.

"Just make sure you don't get too close to any skunks!" Wanda joked as she waited in line to get on the school bus. The doors to the Magic School Bus opened, Ms Frizzle climbed onto the bus with Liz still on her shoulder. The kids followed their teacher onto the bus through the front doors. Ms Frizzle sat in the driver's seat with Liz, while her students sat in the various bench seats behind her. Ms Frizzle put the keys for the bus into the ignition, and switched the engine on. The doors closed, as Ms Frizzle put the bus in reverse gear.

"Seatbelts, everyone!" Ms Frizzle instructed her students who sat back and put on their seatbelts.

"Please, let this be a normal camping trip!" Arnold pleaded as Ms Frizzle reversed the bus out of the parking space. Ms Frizzle stopped the bus, put it in first gear, and drove towards the exit of the school parking lot. It wasn't long before the Magic School Bus was on its way to the local camp site.
