"I can't believe that she's dead." Arnold said, tears flowing out of his eyes.
"What happened, how can she be dead?!" Carlos asked as he cried.
"No! She can't really be dead!" Wanda said as she bawled her eyes out.
"I don't believe this! Who would want to kill our teacher?!" Phoebe asked as she couldn't stop the flow of tears.
"She's dead, she's really dead." Tim said as he continued to mourn.
"No! She's dead. Why would someone do this?!" Dorothy Ann cried out.
"I can't believe that she's gone." Ralphie said as he continued to cry.
"No! This is horrible! Who would do something like this?!" Keesha asked as tears continued to fall out of her eyes. The children continued to cry for several minutes before they regained their composure.
"It must have been a wild animal!" Arnold suggested.
"But what kind of animal would do this?" Carlos asked.
"Do you think it was a bear?" Tim asked.
"It could be wolves." Dorothy Ann suggested.
"I bet it was a bear!" Wanda replied.
"It doesn't matter what sort of animal did this. Our teacher is dead!" Phoebe replied with irritation.
"Oh no, guys, what if it was the serial killer?!" Ralphie asked as he remembered about the story that he'd heard.
"Ralphie! WILL YOU STOP BRINGING UP THAT STUPID THEORY!" Keesha snapped at Ralphie.
"At my old school, the teachers were never murdered by serial killers." Phoebe said out of the blue for no real reason.
"PHOEBE! NOT YOU TOO! WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK THAT THIS WAS A MURDERER?!" Keesha asked angrily.
"Clam down, Keesha. Maybe it was actually a murder." Dorothy Ann told her.
"Oh no! What if Ralphie's right? There might be a killer on the loose!" Wanda exclaimed.
"Oh great! Perhaps I should have stayed home today!" Arnold complained.
"What if it really WAS a murderer?!" Carlos asked fearfully.
"But what do we do now?" Tim asked urgently. Liz walked up to Ms Frizzle's deceased body, she grabbed some detective equipment from her dress. The equipment consisted of magnifying glasses, fingerprint readers, and DNA samplers.
"Hey! Look! We can use these to find out what happened!" Wanda said as she saw what Liz was doing.
"Yeah! Maybe we can find out who or what did this!" Arnold agreed.
"Then we can have them arrested by the police." Phoebe added.
"These should be useful." Tim agreed as the kids picked up the detective equipment.
"Now we can find out who or what killed our teacher." Dorothy Ann said.
"Yeah, now we're gonna catch that serial killer for sure!" Ralphie agreed.
"I still don't think that some serial killer did this." Keesha complained. The children began to use the detective equipment to examine Ms Frizzle's corpse. They quickly noticed with the magnifying glasses that there were wounds that looked like they were made by a blade rather than the teeth or claws of an animal.
"These look more like they were made by a knife than by an animal." Arnold concluded as he examined the stab wounds.
"Yeah, these don't look like they were made by claws and teeth." Wanda agreed as she examined the wounds on Ms Frizzle's corpse.
"It looks like someone was really trying hard to get their point across." Carlos made another one of his horrible puns.
"CARLOS!" The other children in the group complained.
"Oh my goodness! You're right! This looks like a person did this!" Phoebe realised as she examined the wounds.
"It certainly looks that way." Tim agreed as he examined the injuries on Ms Frizzle's corpse.
"Oh no! It looks like there is definitely a killer in the woods!" Dorothy Ann realised as she examined the body.
"See? I told you guys there was a serial killer loose in the woods!" Ralphie insisted as he examined the wounds.
"This only proves that a human did this, not an animal. It doesn't mean it was that guy you mentioned, Ralphie." Keesha replied as she examined the knife wounds.
"Let's check for fingerprints." Tim suggested. The kids began to check for fingerprints using the fingerprint readers. However the kids were surprised that they didn't find any fingerprints on Ms Frizzle's corpse.
"I can't believe that we didn't find any fingerprints." Arnold said after they'd finished looking for fingerprints.
"Whoever did this must have worn gloves." Wanda concluded from the lack of fingerprints.
"Too bad we didn't find any fingerprints." Carlos added.
"We have to find out who did this." Phoebe said.
"Let's look for more evidence." Tim suggested.
"Yeah, there must be other forms of evidence we could collect." Dorothy Ann agreed.
"Let's check to see if there's any DNA evidence." Ralphie suggested.
"That's the first sensible thing that you've said all day." Keesha replied. The kids used the DNA samplers to collect samples of DNA from Ms Frizzle's corpse. However they don't find any DNA on the body.
"Oh no! We didn't find any DNA at all." Arnold complained as they finished unsuccessfully trying to simple DNA from the corpse. Dorothy Ann got a book out of her book bag and began to read from it.
"According to my research, all living things have DNA. It's highly unusual for there to be no DNA left behind in a situation like this." Dorothy Ann said as she read from her book.
"I wonder how we didn't find any DNA at all." Wanda replied.
"That does seem really weird." Carlos agreed.
"This is awful! Now we might never find out who killed Ms Frizzle!" Phoebe speculated.
"So, now what do we do?" Tim asked. There was a rustling noise from a nearby bush.
"Hey! What's that noise?!" Ralphie asked fearfully.
"It's coming from that bush over there!" Keesha pointed to the bush. Suddenly, a wolf lunged out of the bush, and growled at the kids which scared them. The kids and Liz began to run away from the wild animal.
"Yep, I knew I should have stayed home today for sure!" Arnold cried as he ran away from the wolf.
"Is it just me, or has this camping trip been a complete disaster so far?!" Ralphie cried as he ran away from the wolf.
"Oh bad! Oh bad! Oh bad, bad, bad, bad!" Keesha cried as she ran away from the wolf.
"At my old school, we weren't chased around by wolves!" Phoebe complained as she ran away from the wolf.
"Come on! Let's get out of here!" Wanda cried as she ran away from the wolf.
"Where are we going?!" Carlos asked as he ran away from the wolf.
"Away from that thing!" Tim replied as he ran away from the wolf.
"I'd have to agree that it's been a disaster." Dorothy Ann said as she ran away from the wolf. The wolf chased Liz and the children for some distance until it gave up and they realised that it was no longer chasing them. Unfortunately by that time, the kids and Liz had been separated from each other while they were fleeing from the wolf.
Elsewhere in the forest, Jackson Van Hayes was trying to find the location of the kids. However, the number of trees and rocks within the forest as well as the local topography was not making this especially easy.
"I'm gonna find every one of those little shits and kill them! Just like I told that bitch!" Jackson monologued to himself as he stalked through the forest in search of more victims.
