The first thing Jinx felt was several different kinds of pain in several different places of her body. Particularly her forehead, which felt as if it had made swift contact with a sledgehammer.

With a herculean effort, she creaked open her eyes and noticed three things.

She was handcuffed to the bone-white bed she was lying in.

From the looks of it, she was in a Hospital. A topside one.

Kiramnan was here, and she didn't look happy, to put it mildly.

Technically seven things, but that's beside the point.

"Where's Vi?" was the first thing out of Jinx's dry mouth. Her voice scratched and clawed at her throat as Caitlyn's icy glare thawed into mere frost. She put her book to the side. "She's at my house. I asked her to 'crash' there when she hadn't slept for seventy-two hours."

Jinx reluctantly nodded in agreement "Yeah, she does that."

Caitlyn raised an eyebrow "Even when you were young?"

"When she was worried, yeah. And by the way, I want to see who's in charge."

"That would be me."

"Good." Jinx pointed at her restraints "You think that's gonna hold me, Piltie?"

"You were the one who surrendered willfully."

"Yeah, but hypothetically…"

"Those are made of steel."

"I've picked at worse."

"They don't have a lock. They were especially made to have to be physically broken."

"I'd just have to break them then."

"You'd need Jayce's hammer!"

"I've stolen bigger."

This accidental banter carried on for a few minutes more until Caitlyn gave up with a "You're impossible!"

"Don't try to sweet-talk me, Piltie." Jinx told her, before abruptly changing the subject "Is Ekko okay?"

"He's in a different hospital."

"Not what I asked. Is he okay?"

Caitlyn tensed "As he can be after what you did to him."

Flashes painted Jinx's mind. Vander. Claggor. Mylo. She shook her head to clear them. Kiramman's face was again Icy. Jinx sighed, knowing what she was thinking about. "I'm sorry about your mom."

"I don't want your apologies."

"I figured. Just thought It'd be…" she trailed off. There was an uncomfortable silence.

"What do you think they'll give me?" Jinx asked.

Kiramman knew what she was talking about. "Well, the justice system have been made aware of your… condition. You'll be sent to a mental hospital."

Jinx's eyes narrowed "I'm not seeing a head shrinker."

Kiramman pinched the bridge of her nose "Contrary to what everyone from the undercity I've met seems to think, they are not places of suffering."

"What are they then?"

"They're places that can help you with your mental state. Often by talking about your feelings."

Jinx immediately began frantically tugging on the chain "Are you freaking kidding me?"

Caitlyn sighed "You're just like your sister…"

"Thanks." there was yet another silence "Why?""Why what?"

"Let's see, I killed your mom, a load of your coworkers, and nearly destroyed everything. Why don't you hate me?"

"Who says I don't?"

"You constantly tried to get me to surrender during the…" Jinx put her finger to her chin "Let's say the 'Axe incident'. You saved my life at the dock and you're being… what's the word? Civil! Yeah, you're being civil towards me."

Caitlyn sighed "Maybe I feel sorry for you. Maybe I did that for Vi." she closed her eyes "Or maybe, for the people close to me you hurt, you've also saved others close to me."

"Like who?"

"Like my dad."

Jinx thought for a moment, remembering a posh, blue-haired man Caitlyn shared a lot in common with, and that buff engineer she had seen Caitlyn with that one time she had snuck into a party. Probably best to not mention she had saved them both by accident. Perhaps Kiramman already knew anyway. "Right…"

"That does not mean I forgive you." Caitlyn sharply added "But it does mean…"

"I get it."

Caitlyn shot her a look "I was talking!"

Jinx grinned mischievously "No ya weren't."

"Wha- yes I was! And it's 'weren't'."

Jinx gave her perhaps the most insufferable smirk in the history of existence. Caitlyn briefly pondered if anyone would mind if she smothered the blue-haired nutjob with a pillow. She morosely decided Vi and Ekko would. And maybe Jayce too.

Speaking of which, "You know Jayce Talis?"

"Guy responsible for hextech?" Jinx's eyes lit up for a brief split-second, though she tried to keep her expression bored. "Yeah, he seems pretty smart - for a Piltie anyway."

"Well, he wants to talk to you - if you wish."

"Why? Does he have questions?"

"Yes, actually. He wants to know how you broke into his lab and unlocked Hextech."

Jinx shrugged nonchalantly "Sure."

Caitlyn nodded "I'll go get him."

"Bet you fifty I can get out of these cuffs before you come back."

"He's literally right outside the door…"

"Your point?"

"Ugh!"
