Ch 93 Alpha/Saphire

Helena led Brendan to her Laboratory, taking the shortcut through the back of the School. The two traveled the path, leading to Route One Thirteen.

"Professor Potter," Brendan called for the young Professor, curious about something.

"Yes? What is it, Brendan?" Helena turns her head, looking at the brown-haired trainer.

Brendan looks at the black-haired Woman, asking her about her Research. "Professor, what did N say you Research Pokemon Environmental Evolution?" He asked the Professor.

Helena opened the Gates that lead to Route One Thirteen before explaining her Research to the young mind. "My Research is on the Original Forms that Pokemon of the Past." She explains to Brendan.

The brown-haired trainer ponders on what she means. "Like Fossil Pokemon, Professor?" Brendan asked,

"Treecko, Treecko," Treecko commented, knowing about Fossil Pokemon being the Ancient Pokemon he could think of.

Helena smiles, explaining what her Research is about. "Not quite, sure I do get some Fossils to study from time to time. But what I study is different from what Paleontologists studied. I studied the Pokemon's Forms that were effective by their environment, such as Alolan Vulpix and Galarian Ponyta." She explains,

Brendan has heard about in some Regions that some Pokemon he's familiar with will have different forms. "I heard about that, my Friend May has spoken about it." He commented, "Different Regions have similar Pokemon that have different forms."

"That's right, the original forms that Pokemon once had are intriguing it makes me wonder, what were they like? Do they have unique Movesets or how did they survive back then before People were introduced to them." Helena stated, getting excited just from thinking about it, and another wave of pregnancy hormones. "It's so exciting!" She said,

Both Brendan and Treecko looked at Helena, not expecting her to be so giddy. "Um, Professor are you okay?" The young trainer asked her,

Kirlia patted Helena, "Kirlia," Telling her that she was acting strange again, "Kirlia, Kirl," She stared at her Partner,

Helena looks down at her Partner, chuckling as she realizes what happened. She then looks over to Brendan, apologizing to him and Treecko. "Sorry about that Brendan, Treecko, you might not know, but I'm currently pregnant." She smiles,

"O-Oh, oh!" Brendan's eyes widened, not realizing that the young Professor was pregnant. He took a good look at her, noting that her abdomen was big. "I didn't realize you were pregnant, Professor. Your clothing is hiding your stomach well that I didn't think you were pregnant." He said,

"Treecko, Tree." The Wood Gecko Pokemon nodded, agreeing with his Partner.

The black-haired Professor smiles, taking what Brendan and Treecko as a compliment. "Thank you, Brendan, Treecko. I appreciate it. Though you don't need to say that I don't look fat." Helena smiles, "I know, ever since I first found out about my pregnancy, I always knew my stomach would be bigger." She said, not ashamed that she was like a Ball.

Brendan couldn't help but give a little laugh at Helena's small joke.

Helena smiles and continues to lead Brendan to her Lab. Upon walking down the path on Route One Thirteen, both trainers noticed a young Girl around Brendan's Age looking around the Route.

"Hey, it's May," Brendan said, noticing his Neighbor from Littleroot Town,

"Treecko, Treecko," The Wood Gecko Pokemon exclaims, waving at the light brown-haired Pokemon trainer before them.

Helena looked at the ten-year-old trainer, she wore a dark orange tank top, white shorts, black jogging shorts, yellow shoes, and a yellow travel pouch. Her fringe extended near her eyes and was held by a red and yellow bandana.

May looks behind her hearing a familiar voice and Pokemon cry. "Brendan, Treecko! I didn't expect you two to be here." She greeted her Neighbors, seeing them walk to them. She then noticed that there was a Woman beside him,

The young trainer smiles, recognizing her from her Father's Articles of Pokemon Research. "Oh my Arceus, you're Helena Potter! The leading expert on Pokemon Environmental Evolution and the Ancient forms of Pokemon!" May excitedly said before introducing herself to her Role Model.

"My name is May Birch! My Dad's Professor Birch from Littleroot Town." May introduced herself to Helena, smiling at her. "I read all about your Research from my Dad's Lab. I have to say, your topic of study is fascinating."

Kirlia smiles, nudging Helena's leg. "Kirlia, Kirlia," Helena looks down at her Partner, catching May's words.

Helena smiles at the kind words the Daughter of Owen said to her. "Thank you, May. I appreciate it," She said, seeing the excitement reminded her of Hermione's love for knowledge. "You know, you remind me of my old Friend back where I came from. She's a studious Person who always wants to learn everything that is to learn."

May blushes, taking what Helena said as an honor and admiration. "Thank you…" She cleared her throat, looking at Brendan and Treecko. "A-Ahem, Brendan since you are with Professor Potter then your Battle with the Gym Leader Roxanne is done?" She asked her Friend/Rival.

Brendan chuckles, scratching his cheeks as he looks at Treecko. "N-Not exactly, I haven't gotten the chance to Battle the Gym Leader yet, May."

"Treecko, Tree…" Treecko commented, sounding disappointed.

"It seems we arrived at the busiest time to challenge the Rustboro Gym." Brendan chuckles, explaining what happened to him upon arrival at the Gym. "Professor Potter gave me a tour of the Trainer School and the Daycare. Now she's showing me her Pokemon Lab." The young trainer explains to his Friend.

Helena looked at the light brown-haired trainer, seeing she was on the path heading to her Home/Lab. "May are you perhaps you're heading to my Pokemon Lab?" The black-haired Professor asked,

May nodded, responding to the Professor's question, "That's right, after hearing from Dad that you have your own Lab that studies Pokemon's Original forms, I gotta see it for myself." She stated, always wanting to see it.

"Well, both me and Brendan were heading there now," Helena said to the young Pokemon trainer, "Would you like to join us, May?" She offered to join their walk to see the Lab.

"YES!" May exclaims; she is so excited that she doesn't realize that she just shouted at her Idol. "Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to-"

Helena could only laugh at May's eccentric attitude. "It's alright, come. It's just past these trees." She guided the two.

"Kirlia," Kirlia motions for the two trainers to follow them,

The group walked further down the Route, approaching the Lab rather quickly.

Both Brendan and May looked at the rumored Pokemon Lab they heard. It's like any other Pokemon Lab, surrounded by the Forest, and has a gateway leading to a freshly cut lawn at a small tree in the center. "So this is your Lab, Professor…" Brendan commented, amazed by how much the Lab was surrounded by Nature.

"This is amazing, it looks like you have built this Lab to preserve the Forest," May added, liking the scenery before them.

"My Siblings are peculiar about not disturbing the Pokemon Habitat, which I also agreed," Helena explains to the two about the concept behind the Pokemon Lab. "Many Wild Pokemon come here to get Healed or rest up before going on with their Journey to wherever they are going." She continued, "The Pokemon that are mine and my Brother also stay here, it's their Home."

The group enters the gate, walking on the path leading to the patio. Exiting the Lab was a blonde-haired Woman around Helena's Age with a broom in her hand. Beside her was Gallade one of N's new Friends he made in Hoenn.

The blonde Woman saw Helena and Kirlia returning from the Trainer School, prompting her to greet her back. "Welcome Home, Sister. We weren't expecting you to be back right away from your Job." Concordia greeted her Sister before noticing the two trainers following her. "I see you're giving a tour of the place to these Children,"

"Concordia, this is Brendan and May. Brendan was supposed to challenge the Rustboro Gym but it was-"

"Busy, I know. Even here at the Potter Lab, we heard about the busy schedule of Roxanne." Concordia commented,

"Gallade," Gallade nodded, supporting Concordia's statement.

"Well, in any case, you might learn a thing or two while you wait for the chance to Battle Roxanne." The blonde Ability User said to Brendan, "Please, make yourselves comfortable. I'm just doing some yard work for the time being."

Brendan and May smile, appreciating the Hospitality. "Thank you," They responded as did Treecko.

Helena led the two trainers inside the Lab, past the front doors, and left Concordia to do some yard work.

May looks at Helena and has a question for her. "So your Lab is run by you and your Siblings, Professor Potter?" She asked,

"Not quite, there's still the Trainer School's Supervisor, Professor Ceder and my Apprentice Paulo," Helena said, seeing Paulo was in the Lab. "Speaking about my Apprentice, he's here."

The two looked and saw a blonde Boy who was a bit older than them. "Paulo, come meet our guests," Helena called out to the young blonde trainer.

Paulo looks up from his notebook, turning to his Mentor. "Yes, Professor Potter." He got up, walking over to the black-haired Woman.

"Paulo here is a Student of the Trainer School," Helena introduced the two to her Apprentice, "Paulo, this here is May Birch and Brendan Smith."

The blonde trainer took a look at their guests, smiling then nodded at them. "Looks like you two were meant to challenge Roxanne. Too bad she's busy with other Challengers," Paulo smirks, seeing their hopes for a Battle shattered,

"Paulo, be nice." Helena smiles, happy that he developed confidence since working alongside him.

Paulo flinched, hearing his Mentor raise her voice a bit. "R-Right, sorry Professor." He looks down at the two, "Anyways, welcome to the Potter Pokemon Lab. The name's Paulo, and I'm Professor Potter's Apprentice. So you two want to know about Pokemon Origin Forms, right?"

May nodded, "That's right, I'm curious how you guys do your Research here." The young trainer asked, "Is it different from how my Dad's Research?"

"Professor Birch's approach to Researching prefers to be out on the field," Paulo explains to the two. "Here in the Potter Lab, we study how Pokemon interact with their environment."

"How so?" Brendan asked the Researchers.

Helena saw Paulo look at her, indicating one thing to her. She heads over to the sliding doors to the back, "Follow me to the backyard," She motions her head to the outside to which both trainers and Paulo follow her.

The Ability User opened the door, revealing a small paradise for Pokemon. It was a large yard with small Habitats for each different Pokemon. A small pond where the Pokemon can get water to drink, soft kept grass where they can rest. Plenty of trees for the Pokemon to rest under the shade.

A gazebo was at the Forest's edge where there was a table and chairs for anyone to observe the Pokemon or have some refreshments and relax. To the right was a large Battlefield for a Pokemon Battle if needed,

"Okay, this is officially the best thing I've seen in a Pokemon Lab," May commented, feeling like they just entered a place meant for Pokemon. She saw many Pokemon from Hoenn and other Regions as well, even some Regional forms too.

Helena smiles, looking at the two trainers. "We want the Pokemon here to live as comfortably while we do our Research." She said, explaining the purpose of the area they see before them. "Plus, my Siblings and I have a strong belief that Pokemon isn't just our Partner but our equal. As such we made a Home for the Pokemon here where they can feel at Home."

Brendan nodded, understanding the motives behind the large area. "That's awfully nice of you and your Siblings, Professor." He commented,

"Treecko- Treecko?" Treecko looks down, seeing some Pokemon that wasn't native to Hoenn.

May looks down at the Pokemon passing the porch, "A Snivy and a Fennekin, how come there are Starter Pokemon from different Regions?" She asked the young Professor.

Helena looks at the two Starters playing with each other before running off to join some of the other Pokemon. "Through my Research, I've discovered an Ancient slab that describes the early People of Hoenn, not the Draconid and Sootopolitan. But the Settlers," She explains to the two. "The Pokemon they brought to Hoenn are Snivy, Fennekin, and Piplup. Like in Hisui, back then the landscape of Hoenn was harsh for Pokemon, so they Evolved to better adapt to their environment."

"Hence your Research, Environmental Evolution…" Brendan commented, learning something new from the divergence. He looks at Treecko who is itching to join the Starters from other Regions.

Brendan smiles, kneeling to let Treecko go off and play. "Go on, Treecko, play nice with Fennekin and Snivy." He said, allowing his Partner to play.

The Wood Gecko Pokemon gave an ecstatic expression as he ran off to join the others.

May saw Treecko run off to play with the Pokemon here in the Lab, prompting her to take out her own. She tosses her Pokeball, releasing her own Partner to join them. "Torchic, come on out!"

The Pokeball released a small orange Chicken-like Pokemon, he pecked his feathers before looking up at his trainer. "Torchic, Tor!" The Fire-type Pokemon asked May,

The young brunette trainer kneels to her Partner with a kind smile, "Torchic, why don't you join Treecko and the Pokemon and play?" May motions to the other Pokemon playing near the pond.

"Torchic, Torchic!" The Chick Pokemon smiles, turns around, and quickly joins the other Pokemon as Helena and Paulo continue the tour of the backyard, and the many Pokemon that called it their Home.

Helena gave an insightful tour of the yard to the two. Each Pokemon is exposed to different living arrangements she and the others who assisted her set up,

The main reason for that is to see how the Pokemon can adapt to new environments than the ones they're originally from.

Afterward, Helena and Paulo introduced the Pokemon that were living at the Lab. They introduced Helena's Pokemon, Hattrem, Sylveon, Dragonair, Fidough, Ponyta, and some others.

Paulo introduced his Partner, Rockruff, the Snivy that passed by earlier, a Clefairy, and a Charcadet. He's not a big fan of introducing his Pokemon to other trainers since it might give them the advantage during Battle, but they were already outside in the yard.

Now, Helena leads both Brendan and May back onto the porch after the tour. "And that's about it for my Lab." She said, looking at the two trainers, "So, how do you like it so far you two?" She asked,

May smiles, happy to be given the chance to see the Potter Pokemon Lab in person. "It's amazing, Professor Potter. You and your Siblings have really thought about everything that the Pokemon might need here." The brunette trainer commented,

"At least today was not a complete waste. I actually enjoyed the tour, Professor." Brendan said, looking back at the backyard where Paulo was feeding the Pokemon. "Plus I learned something today about Pokemon and their Habitats, thank you, Professor." He appreciates the time Helena gave out of her day to do this.

"Anytime, I'm happy to teach any trainer about Pokemon. I do hope you can Battle Roxanne tomorrow when her schedule is free, Brendan." Helena said, wishing him luck with his Gym Challenge tomorrow.

The brown-haired trainer was about to respond, thanking Helena for her support. However, someone interrupted them. "Unfortunately, that Gym Battle has to wait just a bit longer, Brendan." Adam walks from the Lab and enters the porch.

"Professor Ceder, what do you mean?" Helena asked, looking at her Mentor with curiosity. She then turns to both Brendan and May, "This is my Mentor, Adam Ceder. He's in charge of the Science Department at the Trainer School." She introduced her Mentor to the young trainers before them.

May smiles, greeting the Professor. "A pleasure to meet you, Professor Ceder. My name is-"

"May Birch, Daughter of the Regional Professor, Owen Birch." The blue and blonde-haired Professor said, hearing about her from her Father. "Professor Birch told me about you, how you were intrigued with learning everything." He looks over to his own Student, smirking at her.

"And that he told me that you admire Professor Potter here," Adam smiles, causing Helena to smile.

May could only giggle, scratching her cheek.

Brendan looks at Adam, wondering about what he said before. "Um, Professor, what do you mean by it's not possible to have a Gym Battle tomorrow?" The young trainer asked the blue and blonde-haired Professor.

Adam sighs, scratching the back of his head, "Ah…well, it seems that there's some backup with the Challengers. Now the Challengers from the School will continue tomorrow." The young Department Head explains to the Challenger. "It's gonna be hard to even squeeze you into the lineup."

The brown-haired trainer gave a disappointed expression, upon hearing the news. "Oh, I see…then I guess I have to wait for the end of the week then." Brendan said, knowing that this Gym was the busiest. "I was hoping to challenge Roxanne and then continue my way to challenge the other Gym Leaders then eventually I can Battle my Dad," He smiles,

Helena could tell that Brendan was really looking forward to continuing his way to challenge his Father. She turns to Adam, motioning for him to come over.

Adam came off to his Student, curious about what she wanted to tell him. She came over to his ears, whispering something to him. He steps back, looking at her with a complex expression. "Are you sure about this? You don't have experience," He said,

"But I did handle Team Plasma Grunts when we were in Unova. So, I think I can do it." Helena said, giving his Mentor time to think.

The Department Head nodded, already making a decision. "Brendan, I think we can do a Gym Battle for you," Adam spoke, gaining his attention.

"What do you mean?" Brendan asked the Professor.

Helena smiles, walking up to the two trainers and placing her hand on her chest. "Brendan, I'll be acting as a Gym Leader for your chance to earn yourself the Gym Badge." She informed him.
