Smurfocalypse Chapter 28: The Cost
Hefty and the group made up their mind that they were going to stay and fight for the town. The knights armed themselves. The eight fully armored and armed Smurfs marched their way up to the open gate and went inside to see the town for the first time.
"Remember your training, keep your cool, and route the enemy!" Hefty commanded as he drew his blade.
As Hefty shouted this the first wave of demons came pouring out of an empty house. It was eight versus eight, but Hefty and his knights were already in formation and had the advantage.
"Steel yourself for combat! Charge!" Hefty commanded.
The knights charged as did their opponents which were also armed, but their opponents were no match for them and each Smurf defeated their opponent.
"We handled that one well Smurfs. Alright we're going pair up just like in training and each take a different part of the area." Hefty.
The pairing was as displayed:
Hefty, Clockwork
Farmer, Tuffy
Falconer, Archer
Sweepy, Timber
"We'll meet back here when the mission is complete. If you need reinforcements shout and the nearest party will assist you." Hefty said.
It was after that was said that everyone went their separate ways. Farmer and Tuffy were exploring a different part of the town. Many buildings were built close enough together that there were dark alleys which for a Smurf sized creature was like a cave. Tuffy and Farmer approached one of these allies and decided to scope it out.
"Seems like a place creeps like these would hang out." Farmer said.
"Maybe we can Smurf the upper-hand. Let's try it" Tuffy said.
Farmer raised his scythe and decided to follow Tuffy's lead. They made it into the darkness when it had been clear this had been a trap all too soon. Farmer stepped on a hotplate which released a spear from a compartment hidden in the cobblestone wall. The spear nearly took Farmer's head off the Smurf ducked just in time and shouted which gained Tuffy's attention. Tuffy turned to see why Farmer was screaming only to feel something sharp pierce the back of his chest plate and jab him in the back. The Adrenaline was so intense at the moment that Tuffy hadn't even realized he had been shot. He turned to see his attackers to see a single Smurf sized dark figure with a bow grinning at him. Tuffy drew his sword and charged without thinking, but began feeling weak for an unknown reason.
"Tuffy wait! Don't do this alone! We need reinforcements!" Farmer shouted as he raised his scythe and followed Tuffy into battle.
Hefty and clockwork had just finished a small skirmish of their own before hearing Farmer's plea for reinforcements.
"That's Farmer and Tuffy! Hold on reinforcements are on the way!" Hefty shouted as he and Clockwork ran towards the alleyways.
Meanwhile Tuffy was trying his best to strike this demon, but his strength was failing him. Blow after blow was dodged by the evil creature as it grinned.
"Damn it its toying with me!" Tuffy said.
The demon let tuffy get close enough to it to notice it had been using poison, and that's when Tuffy realized he was in big trouble. Farmer was fighting off a couple of them himself at the moment it was as though they were trying to separate him from Tuffy. They were smart enough to know the Smurfs were working together at the very least. Hefty had made his way up to the alley.
"Hold on Tuffy I'll be right there!" Hefty said as he ran past Farmer with Clockwork following him.
It would be too late though for right as Hefty had Tuffy in his sight four demons with spears jumped from the rooftops and impaled the Smurf all at the same time much to Hefty's horror. Tuffy shouted out and blood shot from his mouth before his body lay limp, falling to the street with a clang of his armor.
"No Tuffy!" Hefty screamed.
Hefty, Farmer, and Clockwork made short work of the spear handed demons before Hefty rushed to Tuffy and flipped him over.
"Tuffy! Tuffy speak to me!" Hefty pleaded as he shook the dying Smurf.
"I-I guess I really messed up this time huh?" Tuffy said.
"No… No Tuffy you did good buddy." Hefty said as he teared up.
"Did I really?" Tuffy said.
Hefty nodded.
"I'm proud of you buddy." Hefty said.
Tears fell from the brave knights face onto his dying companion's armor.
"Please… Don't forget me…" Tuffy said just before he died.
"I will never forget you my friend…" Hefty said as he shut Tuffy's eyes forever.
Hefty stood and faced Farmer and Clockwork who were also mourning and began to walk past them out of the alley.
"Return to rendezvous at once…" Hefty commanded.
Hefty and his forces had successfully routed the enemy and returned to the rendezvous point, but at the heavy cost of Tuffy Smurf's life.
"We lost Tuffy… But the town is clear. Its time to move the others in." Hefty said.
"Hefty if you need a moment we understand…" Sweepy said.
Hefty wiped his face and shut his helmet so he couldn't be seen.
"Let's just get everyone to safety." Hefty said.
