Smurfocalypse chapter 96: A chance to live again.

Smurfstorm and Hefty arrived at the clinic just as Smurfblossom was exiting. Smurfstorm looked to Smurfblossom and flashed a hand gesture that suggests she should stay outside the clinic and wait for her and Smurfblossom nods. When they got inside Handy was sitting up in bed and smiled when he saw Hefty. The two of them fist bumped, and then Hefty snatches Reporter's notepad and paper right out of his hand and wrote a message to Handy asking how he was feeling before handing the notepad to Handy. Handy wrote a reply the best he could stating that he was fine and Hefty gave him the thumbs up.

"What happened to your friend?" Smurfstorm asked.

"He was shot. He can't hear or speak." Hefty said.

Smurfstorm waves to Handy and smiles, and Handy smiles and waves back.

"I'm so sorry." Smurfstorm said.

"It's fine. Our researcher Brainy is focusing on finding a solution to the problem." Hefty said.

Doctor immediately drops everything he was doing and approaches Hefty.

"What happened this time?" Doctor asked while immediately treating Hefty's wounds.

"Smurfstorm happened. She's really strong." Hefty said.

Hefty then turned to Reporter.

"Contact Brainy and have him send Grandpa Smurf from The House of Waiting. I don't want him to have to sleep on the floor at his age so let's sort things out with him today." Hefty said.

"Right away Hefty." Reporter said as he exited the clinic.

Hefty gets into the bed closest to Handy and Doctor continues to treat him managing to stop the bleeding with ease. Brainy had finished the paperwork at Hefty's office and had returned to Papa Smurf's hut to study when he heard a knock on the front door.

"Come in!" Brainy said not looking up from his books.

"Hefty wants Grandpa Smurf to report to the clinic immediately." Reporter said.

"Can do, thanks." Brainy said.

Reporter nods and exits Papa Smurf's hut. Brainy put a bookmark in the tome he was reading and stood. He then left the hut locking the door behind him and went to The House of Waiting where Falconer was still standing guard. He jumps up and opens the door and the Smurfs inside stopped their conversation and looked to Brainy.

"I apologize for the delay. Grandpa Smurf, Hefty will see you now." Brainy said.

"Alright whippersmurfer, just let me get up." Grandpa said standing with the help of his stick.

"Right this way." Brainy said as they both left the house.

Grandpa follows Brainy to Doctor's clinic and steps inside. Inside the clinic Reporter was already waiting along with Hefty, Handy, Doctor, and Smurfstorm who was getting her checkup.

"Have a seat anywhere Grandpa." Hefty said.

Grandpa pulls up a stool and sits down at the foot of the bed Hefty was sitting at. Grandpa outstretches his hand and Hefty shakes it.

"First off welcome to Port Saint Smurf. I am Hefty Smurf." Hefty said.

"Oh I know… I've heard so many good things about you." Grandpa said.

"You know me from somewhere?" Hefty asked.

"Not somewhere, someone." Grandpa said.

"I don't understand…" Hefty said.

"The one you call Papa Smurf." Grandpa said with a smile.

This gained the attention of nearly every Smurf in clinic.

"You know Papa Smurf?" Hefty asked.

"I've known him since he was just a baby. He's told me so much about all of you. Where is the little whippersmurfer anyway? Hard at work I assume." Grandpa said.

"Grandpa… Papa Smurf died." Hefty said.

This removed Grandpa's warm smile. He removed his cap and held it to his chest as he frowned.

"I-I see." Grandpa said.

"I'm sorry Grandpa." Hefty said.

"I'll get through it just like you Smurfs must have…" Grandpa said.

"So you're like family to us somehow…" Hefty said.

"Yes I was your Papa Smurf's Papa Smurf." Grandpa said.

"How did you get separated from us?" Hefty asked.

"I just got back from a four hundred year long journey around the world to preserve the power of the long life stone." Grandpa said.

"The stone that allows Smurfs to live a thousand years." Hefty said.

"I see he's taught you well." Grandpa said.

Grandpa puts his cap back on his head and directs his attention to Handy.

"What happened to him?" Grandpa asked.

"He was shot. He suffered severe brain trauma. He can't hear or speak." Doctor said.

Grandpa puts his hand to his chin and nods his head.

"You do realize there is a cure to what he has right?" Grandpa asked.

"You're serious?" Hefty asked.

Grandpa nods.

"Some of my old books should have the cure. It's a master level alchemy potion." Grandpa said.

"Reporter! Go get Alchemist and Brainy immediately!" Hefty said excitedly.

"Sure thing Hefty." Reporter said as he left.

Handy looked as though he were trying to understand what was going on, following along with the conversation despite not being able to hear and Hefty quickly writes him a message informing him that they might have just found a cure that could restore him to normal. Handy looked considerably excited once he read the paper. Momentarily Brainy and Alchemist enter the clinic books in hand along with Reporter. Grandpa noticed both books straight away. He was the author of both books and stood up and immediately snatched them out of Brainy and Alchemist's hands.

"Yes! These are my books! I can't believe he took such great care of them all these years." Grandpa said as he leafed through the pages.

"Hefty… What's going on here?" Brainy asked.

"Long story short. Grandpa knows Papa Smurf. He's here to help Handy." Hefty said.

"Wow!" Alchemist said.

"Yeah see these two books are meant to be read together. Alone they are useless as far as this situation goes, but if you notice once you reach the page that starts talking about the Savant Cure. I tell the reader to refer to the second volume." Grandpa said placing his finger on the text.

"I see!" Brainy said.

"Come closer whippersmurfers it's alright, I've known Papa Smurf since he was a baby. You must be his apprentices. Let me show you a trick." Grandpa said as Brainy and Alchemist approach Grandpa.

Grandpa grabs the alchemy book and sticks his finger into it before opening it right to the page where he needed it to be.

"See when you work together as a pair you can decipher this text easily. Right here. The Savant Cure." Grandpa said placing his finger on the page.

Then he take his finger over to the alchemy book and places his fingers on the text.

"Here's what we need. I'll need the powder of a bloodstone, the nectar from The Flower of Vitality, and oil from the skin of a Regen Serpent." Grandpa said.

"Any ideas on where to find these things?" Hefty asked.

"Bloodstones are found on Blood Mountain, flowers of vitality grow in the Meadow of Life, and perhaps the most difficult and dangerous of them all is the Regen Serpent which lives in the Stinkwood Swamp." Grandpa said.

"Sounds like our work is cut out for us." Hefty said.

"Hefty let Smurfblossom and I help you on your quest. I wish to become stronger." Smurfstorm said.

"Alright, but we can't leave the port undefended." Hefty said.

"That's where my girls come in." Smurfstorm said.

"Remember Hefty. Trust is an important commodity in any society." Brainy said.

"Right I understand. What about the interviews and the refugees?" Hefty asked.

"Leave that to me. I'll take care of everything." Brainy said.

"Sounds good. Then we have a plan. We set out as soon as my wounds are healed." Hefty said.

Hefty looks to Alchemist.

"We're going to need some potions." Hefty said.

"Say no more Hefty. I'm on it." Alchemist said.

Alchemist left to get straight to work. Hefty looked to Handy and gave him another thumbs up and Handy nodded with a smile.

"Grandpa you are definitely welcome in Port Saint Smurf. I can't thank you enough for your help." Hefty said.

Grandpa smiled.

"Just be careful out there whippersmurfer. It's a dangerous world out there for a Smurf." Grandpa said.

"You got it." Hefty said.

Just then Pluto entered the clinic with a bag of ice.

"Did I miss anything Doctor?" Pluto asked.

"Nothing too much." Doctor said.

Doctor finished treating Hefty.

"Pluto has been very helpful since joining the village." Doctor said.

"I want to be a nurse when I grow up!" Pluto said excitedly.

"Is that right? Well Pluto I must say I am impressed with you." Hefty said.

"I may be a Cosmic Smurf, but I'm a nice Smurfette mister Hefty. I want to help out Smurfs that got hurt like Doctor does." Pluto said.

"I wish you the best of luck. Stick by Doctor and Psychiatrist and study hard and one day you'll be a great nurse." Hefty said.

"That's very Smurfy of you to say mister Hefty." Pluto said.

"It's very reassuring to see such a young whippersmurfer take an interest in a career." Grandpa said.

"I agree." Hefty said.

Grandpa and Reporter leave the clinic and Smurfstorm stays by Hefty's bedside as Smurfblossom enters the clinic.

"Wow Stormy… Just wow. Did you really have to beat the crap out of Hefty?" Smurfblossom said.

"Sometimes a good scrap is an excellent way to understand each other." Hefty said.

Smurfstorm laughs.

"Yeah well next time don't go easy on me and this won't happen." Smurfstorm said.

"So I heard there's a way to fix your friend's brain." Smurfblossom said.

"Yes, but it will be a dangerous quest. I can't guarantee that any Smurf that comes along will survive. I could die out there myself, but I'm willing to do anything I can to help Handy." Hefty said.

"Wow wow! That dangerous huh? Are we going to help Stormy?" Smurfblossom asked.

"Of course. I will follow Hefty wherever he goes. It's the only way to become stronger." Smurfstorm said.

"I'm very fortunate to have met such strong Smurfs. I look forward to working together." Hefty said.

"And my girls will protect Port Saint Smurf while we're gone so we have nothing to worry about except the job." Smurfstorm said.
