AN: Hooray! Only seven more chapters left after this one! This chapter and the next one will be the last two chapters of Lea being pregnant before we move on to the actual baby stage. I want to finish before the season premiere in February.
Summary: Lea finds it amusing to find her husband watching many movies and TV shows about people having babies. Set sometime between "Blessed" and "A Beautiful Day".
As usual, it was the middle of the night when Lea had to get up to pee, again...and also crave a midnight snack. Salt and vinegar potato chips are what she had in mind, as well as some of that leftover ravioli Dr. Glassman made last week.
Speaking of Glassy, hopefully, he wouldn't be too pissed off with Shaun about going to Dr. Lim about his brain scans. After all, nobody wanted the two of them to be in a feud when Lea goes into labor.
Only two more weeks of these aches and pains, she thought as she struggled to pull herself out of bed. Or maybe four if little Steven decides to stay in there a little longer and inherit the stubbornness gene he could inherit from both his parents. Well, actually, it will then turn into six more weeks of pain down there after he is born.
However, once Lea was on her feet and out of the bed, she noticed that Shaun's figure was not asleep on his side of the bed or in the bedroom at all. Hopefully, he would be done in the bathroom soon (assuming that's where he was) and she wouldn't have to pee in the bathtub again.
With Lea being 38 weeks pregnant as of tomorrow and finally starting her maternity leave, almost everything was ready for the fully baked Peanut. The birth plan was written and prepared, Lea's parents were going to be flying in next week (Glassy would be picking them up from the airport), the baby furniture was put together, the carseat was installed, and the hospital bag was almost packed and ready to be loaded up.
In addition, Lea was going to make sure she packed her lucky socks, which were the grey hospital socks she wore when she was in the hospital. She insisted to herself that she would be wearing those socks while she is in labor.
It was hard to believe that in two weeks, they would finally have a baby, something they badly wanted.
It might even be in less than a week because Dr. Winkler said Lea was already dilated one centimeter at her appointment yesterday. So, the baby could be coming soon; probably before Pam and Mike arrive in San Jose.
However, since this would be her first labor, it might take days for the symptoms of labor to kick in or for Lea to actually need to come to the hospital.
Not only had the parents-to-be been preparing for going through childbirth (with the two of them practicing their breathing exercises), but Shaun has also been doing a lot of "research" on how to support Lea throughout the whole process. He was going to be doing more than just cutting the umbilical cord.
Speaking of research, that was what Lea eyed Shaun doing in the living room instead of using the bathroom or even working on one of his cases at work. He was sitting on the couch, with his pocketbook and a pen in his hands, taking notes while watching a rerun of A Baby Story.
One weird way Shaun has been doing "research" was by watching movies and TV shows about people having babies (because sitting in on someone else's labor in person would be too invasive). So far, he has watched all the classics - What to Expect When You're Expecting, Nine Months, Baby Mama, Juno, Knocked Up, She's Having a Baby, and For Keeps.
While doing observational "research", Shaun also had the audacity to point out all the medical inaccuracies. He pointed out that Call the Midwife, A Baby Story, Teen Mom, Unexpected, 16 and Pregnant, and One Born Every Minute to be more accurate.
Lea found it amusing that Shaun would even look to those reality shows that revolve around teenagers having babies, where most of the fathers were assholes who probably weren't very helpful to their laboring girlfriends. The majority of those baby daddies did not seem like the kind of men Lea would want to co-parent with.
"You're watching A Baby Story again?" Lea scoffed with a laugh as she headed to the pantry to grab a bag of salt and vinegar chips to snack on and then sit down next to Shaun.
"I'm doing research," justified Shaun as he described the expectant parents in this episode, jotting down something in his pocketbook. "Laurie and Bill are planning a drug-free birth for their second child. They had a miscarriage before this pregnancy."
"Well, good for them," chuckled Lea, who decided to watch with him...although, she wasn't sure if she would be able to sit through any birth scenes right now. "About their birth plan, not the miscarriage."
She had to admit, she did kind of enjoy watching episodes of A Baby Story as an expectant parent this time, instead of as a bored teenager who was channel surfing a decade or two ago. Seeing people go through a happy milestone was kind of sweet, especially when they went through loss and infertility like she and Shaun did.
"Stuff like this is all you have been watching for the past two days," giggled Lea as she snuggled up closer next to Shaun. "Also, did you seriously get the TLC service app just so you could access full episodes of A Baby Story and Unexpected?"
"Yes," replied Shaun, who paused the show to continue talking to Lea. "I need to know the best ways of how to support you while you give birth to our son. It's also a good distraction from what is going on with Dr. Glassman."
"Okay," chortled Lea, lanking her arm over Shaun's shoulders, wondering how Dr. Glassman was going to react to Shaun going behind his back to Dr. Lim. "As long as you're not using the Duggars' birth scenes as research. No one should take any advice from them."
"Yes, they shoudn't. And, I'm not," assured Shaun, gazing lovingly into Lea's eyes, placing her hand over her very pregnant belly. It didn't need to take him and Lea watching Shiny Happy People for him to conclude that.
"Good," sighed Lea, being quiet for a minute before offering a suggestion. "Anyway, how about we watch a movie together after this episode is over."
"Okay," hummed Shaun, getting ready to unpause the video as he allowed Lea to kiss him fully on the lips.
"Just not a movie about people having babies, please," finished Lea.
"Okay," agreed Shaun, unpausing to finish the episode.
AN: I hope you all enjoyed. Please review :)
