This can change everything
It has been ten days since we got back from the Bewilderbeasts nest and now me and Toothless were getting ready to fly to the island where we could hopefully find the dead guys notes. The last few days have been relaxing to say the least which is good because I was constantly exploring so I never took time to just relax with my dragons and animals. During the down time I was able to make a few adjustments to my home such as I made a large crater in my bedroom wall which I turned into Ikans new cage since his old one was getting too small for him. His new cage was six feet long and five feet wide with his nest in the back, thin gronkle iron bars that would keep him in the cage, a food basket hanging onto the bars, a door for me to take him in and out of, some sticks going around the cage for him to perch himself on and a water bowl for him to drink from. I was also able to get to my poison dart frogs a home, which was a glass, case resting on a wooden stand. The case had a gronkle iron lid on top with small holes in the top to let air in while the glass case had a small slot with a bowl in so when I pull it out I put some bugs or fruit in and then push it back in so they can eat up and another one of those for water, there is also a few plant sprouts in there with old wood and a small pond in the middle so all in all I think my frogs will be comfortable. Its location was in a new room I built with a window outside which would let sunlight into the room for my frogs and the sprouts. I also made a new room like my cold storage room except this one had nests in it for my cold climate dragons and when I showed it to them they were so happy I'm surprised they stopped nuzzling me and their new room I named the ice dens. My new dragons also have new jobs or have a place in a project I have planned. Berg, Shard and Blizzard are a big part of a project I have planned in which I would have Diggs make a new cove that isn't as big as the one I currently have but still big and turn it into a winter environment for them to enjoy and for me to practice my cold environment skills in. Diggs is already working on the coves construction with the help of some of my other boulder classes and it would be done in another day or two. Zap and Rays new job is to round up fish into large schools for my flying dragons to blast into their baskets. I also constructed their metal statues which are now resting comfortably in the library with the others.
Anyways right now I wearing my riding armor with two swords on the back and a foldup shield added was getting ready to fly to the place where this dragon researcher supposedly lived. This place is called the Great West Ocean. I had once heard about it from Johan and he told me that though it's not quite an ocean, this area is filled with salt-water bays, jam-packed with giant lakes and over flowing with waterfalls. From what I was told it sounded quite beautiful and I was looking forward to seeing it. On the team that was accompanying me are Toothless, Jocko, Gina and Scaulder while my night monkeys kept an eye on things here with my dragons while my Jaguars stayed in their playpen with Shadow and Snowflake watching them. I looked at my team and said.
"Okay guy let's go check this place out and hopefully gain some better knowledge on the alpha class dragons."
I then mounted Toothless with Jocko and Gina sitting in two saddlebags on Toothless' saddle before we took off. I was looking forward to seeing this new island and hopefully gaining new dragon knowledge.
2 hours later
We had finally arrived at the island and it was absolutely amazing. The scenery, the beaches and the water altogether it looked incredible. We landed on a beach and as soon as we landed Jocko and Gina immediately hopped out of the bags and climbed up onto my shoulders. I turned to Scaulder and said.
"Do a lap around the island and check if there are any ships around the last thing we want is to be surprised by an attack." He nodded before swimming away to fulfill his orders. I then turned to my monkeys. "Climb up some trees and keep a look out guys." They quickly climbed off my shoulders and did as they were told. I turned to Toothless. "Well bud the only thing we can do now is wait." He growled in agreement before laying down in the sand while I took out one of my swords and began practicing my sword skills.
Half an hour later
Scaulder arrived back at the beach so I walked up to him and asked.
"See anything?" He shook his head, which made me smile. I said. "Good we can conduct out business in peace then but just to be safe keep a watch out for any approaching ships."
He nodded before diving back beneath the waves as I called Jocko and Gina down from the tree before beginning our walk into the forest in search of the hut.
1 hour later
We've been searching for the hut for an hour now and so far we've found lots of crystal blue water filled pools, some hot springs, some berry bushes, a few hills and mountain found this island to also be chockfull of geodes. The weird thing about this island though was I kept hearing this strange sound kind of like a dog gnawing on a bone except more rocky and some of the geodes had what looked to be bite marks on them. Made me worry a bit but not too much since I do have Toothless with me. It was now that I was beginning to feel like giving up and leaving after collecting some geodes for decoration but it was then Jocko started jumping up and down a screeching. I looked at him as if he had lost his mind before I kneeled down in front of him and asked.
"Everything alright little buddy?"
He then pointed in the direction of what appeared to be a bunch of bushes before he continue screeching. I then noticed that there was something behind those bushes I walked up to them and took out my sword before I cut them away only to find an old cabin that had vines growing on it. I smiled and said.
"This has to be the cabin that researcher lived in. Jocko great find." He simply shrugged before I turned my attention back to the cabin.
I pushed the door to the hut open but I only made it half way before it fell to the ground, which was no surprise since the door hinges were rusted beyond belief. To be honest I'm surprised they were even able to hold the door up for so long. I slowly entered the hut careful not to break any floorboards. As I made it into the cabin I almost covered my nose as a horrible stench assaulted me but fortunately I've spent most of my childhood as Gobbers apprentice in the hot forge and the man refused to bath until half the village forces him into the tub for a bath so compared to that the cabins smelt like a warm batch of freshly made cookies. I felt around the walls for a torch I could use. Unfortunately there wasn't one but it was for times like these I come prepared since I had packed a torch in Toothless' saddle bag.
I walked back to him and took it out before having him light it then re-enter the cabin with Jocko and Gina at my sides. We re-entered the cabin that I could now see properly since the window shutters were all closed. In the entrance room there was an old fire pit in the middle of the room with an old dusty cauldron lying on its side in it with a broken metal pole, which I'm guessing was used to hold it above the fire next to it. There was an old chair, a closed window shutter and table that looked ready to fall apart at the back with a chair that looked like it was standing on it's last leg. I then saw the cause of the horrible stench, which was what I can only assume was once a yak leg, which was now covered in mold, and clearly rotting. Thankfully I was wearing my gauntlets so I held my breath, grabbed the leg and through it out the door. Pretty sure I saw a bird drop out of a tree. I shrugged it off before I continued my exploration of the cabin. I still had to cover my nose though since the smell was still there and needed to be aired out. I opened up the shutters for some more light and to help the cabin air out. I moved upstairs careful not to fall over any of the steps or break any because of the rotting wood. Upstairs I found a pretty average bedroom with only an old dusty bed, side table with an old metal jug and candle on top of it. This place was covered in so much dust and cobwebs it makes Mildews hut back on Berk seem like the cleanest place you can find. I decided to compliment how clean this place is later and started checking the room looking for notes and info on any dragons this guy might have encountered.
1 hour later
I was currently standing in the middle of the first floor and looking down in annoyance. I've been all over this place twice and found nothing. Jocko and Gina climbed onto my shoulders and gently pet my head to comfort me. I smiled and said.
"Thanks guys."
I then heard wood cracking. I looked down and saw the floor cracking underneath me before it could get worse I threw Jocko and Gina off before the floor fell right open and I fell down into darkness as I screamed. The fall didn't take too long and thanks to my training in the jungle trees I was able to land on my feet. I coughed up some dust before I looked around at what I had fallen into. It seemed to be some secret basement but that was all I could tell since it was so dark and I left my torch upstairs. I sighed as I ran my hand through my hair. I looked up hearing concerned crooning from Toothless finding him staring down into the hole with Jocko and Gina. My eyes widened at this knowing what was coming next and sure enough the floor collapsed under their combined wait causing them to join me down in this old room and making a cloud of dust as well. I coughed up some of the dust and looked at Toothless and my monkeys in concern and asked.
"Are you guys alright?"
Toothless was shaking the dust out of his face while Jocko and Gina rubbed their faces before they each gave a sign that they were fine. I smiled before I walked up to Toothless and pulled out the extra torch I stored in his saddlebag and had him light it so it illuminated the room. When I saw what was in the room my mouth dropped. The walls were littered with maps, charts and drawings of I don't know what types of dragons. I looked around and spotted a desk in the back with an open book on it along with a quill in an inkpot and at the back a small box. I walked over to it to check the box out after I wiped off the dust but when I tried to open it I found out it was locked. I sighed and hung up the torch over the desk and sat down on the chair that was at the desk after I dusted off the cobwebs and began reading the book in stead.
1 hour later
I finally finished the book and learnt quite a bit while Toothless and my monkeys were sleeping in the corner. Apparently the original owner was looking for five bells known as the bells of frey to awaken the sleeping giant known as the Foreverwing. There were a few sketches of what it is meant to look like and from what I could tell it looked like a dragon made completely of trees and roots. There were also sketches of the bells themselves. There was also info on other alpha class dragons but the bells are what interested me the most and at the end of the book I found the key to the box and was now about to open the box and find out its contents. I wiped off most of the dust and slowly unlocked the chest. When I opened it I slowly looked inside and found one thing. One of the bells of Frey but as I slowly picked it up I pulled a string that was wrapped around it and heard a cranking sound before a secret compartment in the chests lid opened up and launched a knife that I was barely able to dodge in time. I took a few breaths as Toothless and my monkeys made sure I was all right. I smiled at them and said.
"Don't worry guys I'm fine but I'm not sure if this place has more traps so we better keep an eye out for anymore of them."
1 hour later
We had finished checking the place from top to bottom for traps and we did come across a few but they were easily avoided which meant I was able to find what was in the box without the need to worry about getting hurt. The contents of the box was one of the five bells of frey, three lens of some sort and a map which leads into the fog bank near the edge of the archipelago, a sketch of what looks like some sort of telescope thing (AN: The dragon eye) and a drawing of some mean looking ship. Once I was done studying the contents of the box I had made the decision take every book, journal and drawing that was in this place but I couldn't take them now since there was too much so I needed to first go home and grab my ship too make transporting all this stuff easier. I had Toothless fly me out of the basement with Jocko and Gina on my shoulders. We met up with Scaulder and began our fly back to the hideout to pick up the ship.
5 hours later
We had finally gotten back to the island with the ship and this time we had a slightly bigger team. There was me, Toothless who was walking next to me on my right side, Coal who was pulling a wagon, Diggs flying next to me on my left side, Jocko and Gina were riding in the wagon and Scaulder was with the ship. I smiled as we reached the cabin before I turned to the team and said.
"Okay guys we've all got jobs to do so lets get started. Coal you'll be pulling the wagon." He growled and gave a nod. "Jocko and Gina you two will be helping load everything into the wagon and remember to start with the books because the last thing we need are the scrolls and maps being damaged." They just gave me a mock salute and I sighed wondering why I ever taught them that. I turned to Diggs.
"Diggs you're on guard duty. Roar if you see anything." He growled and gave a nod before I turned to Toothless. "Bud you'll be helping me, Jocko and Gina move the books out of the basement." He nodded before we got to work, which started with me pulling out a ladder I brought to use as steps, and sending it down into the basement so we could begin loading everything.
1 hour later
We were done loading everything up into the wagon and I was quite happy with the find but one thing still bothered me. What made those bite marks in the geodes and what is that strange sound I kept hearing. Once the wagon had been emptied on my ship then I will investigate. So we began the hike back to the ship to unload the cargo.
Half an hour later
We had just finished unloading all the books, scrolls and maps from the wagon and into the lower decks storage and the chest that had the bell of frey, the strange lens, the map which leads into the fog bank, the sketch of the telescope thing and the drawing of the mean looking ship was now in my ships bedroom. I looked at Jocko and Gina and said.
"Stay with the ship guys we don't know what is munching on the geodes so it might be dangerous."
They nodded before I gave each an apple and hopped off the ship. I then went back into the forest with Toothless, Diggs and Coal at my sides. We started out by looking for geodes that seemed to have been munched on or following the sound of munching.
1 hour later
I think we finally found the source of one of the sources of the munching behind some bushes. My dragons stood battle ready incase whatever was making the sounds was aggressive. I slowly pushed the bushes out of the way and found a dragon I had never seen before. It was currently chewing on a geode it seemed peaceful enough so I slowly approached it with my dragons behind me. As soon as it took notice of us it turned and growled at us. I held my hand up to my dragons signaling them to stay back as I approached the dragon slowly and disarmed myself as I did. The dragon still looked at me unsure so I held my hands up cautiously and said.
"Easy there big guy we don't want to fight. We just want to be friends."
He still stared at me with distrust before I remembered I had picked up a green geode I thinking it might come in handy for distracting whatever was munching on them if we needed an escape and that geode was still in my satchel on my back. I slowly reached into my satchel and pulled out the geode. The dragon looked at it hungrily before I slowly walked up to it with the geode in hand and asked.
"You like munching on these don't you?" I slowly held it out as the dragon took it from my palm and growled in gratitude. "There now! See I'm not so bad?"
He then growled in approval and gave me a smile before he nuzzled my shoulder in appreciation. I chuckled before I decided it was time to fully train this dragon. I took a step back and held out my hand as I turned away from the dragon and closed my eyes. It wasn't long till I felt a scaly muzzle pressed against my hand. I smiled and turned my head seeing the dragon pressing its muzzle against my hand. I smiled before giving him a gentle scratch on the nose as he purred. I then took a few steps back and said.
"Okay now let's get a proper look at you."
I began to study him and saw that this dragon had a rounded body and a big head. Its first pair of legs in the front was very small, but the back pair of legs was big. It had horns on its snout and on its forehead, a row of spines running along its back, and a spiked tail bludgeon that resembles a mace and as for its skin color he had blue spines and an orange colored pattern that mimics that of a domestic farm animal known as a cow with a light green hide. I smiled and rubbed his head as I rubbed my chin and said.
"Now what to name you?" I looked him over again before my eyes landed on a chewed up geode and then it hit me.
"Gnaw! That's what we'll call you since you like to gnaw on geodes. Do you like it?" He shook his tail in happiness liking the name. I smiled before gesturing my other dragons over. "Guys come and say hi to our new friend Gnaw. Not sure what species of dragon he is though but I'm sure he's a boulder class since he has an appetite for geodes." Once we got introductions out of the way I said.
"Okay guys now before we leave we're going to collect some geodes for Gnaw to munch on since he's new to our group and we do want to make sure he feels welcome." They growled in understanding before we set off to the ship to grab the wagon so we could start collecting.
1 hour later
We were returning to the ship with a wagon just full of geodes Gnaw sniffed out for us. I was curious about what other types of rocks he could sniff out and I was looking forward to finding out after I've checked out where the map I found in the chest leads. We then set off home with our bounty to drop it off and take the day to help Gnaw settle in.
5 hours later
It was dark when we got home as the moon and stars were out in the sky and of course everyone at home greeted us happily. I smiled as I introduced Gnaw to everyone and before I got dinner ready. We all had the usual with most of my dragons having fish of all kinds except eel, Coal having some rocks, Gnaw some Geodes, my wolves some boar meat, my monkeys some fruit, my jaguars and Ikan some chopped up salmon while I had a roast cod with some bread and a glass of water. Once supper was done I had Diggs get Gnaw a den ready, which didn't take long, and when it was done I put some geodes in the walls for him to munch on. The rest of my evening before bed was spent sitting in one of the armchairs studying the books I found which had a variety of information about plant life, different livestock animals, new places, a book on carpentry, new maps to new places and a new type of text for me to learn. Strange thing is there was nothing on dragons, which is weird since the former owner studied them so much. I sighed and said.
"Very strange but I'm sure he had his reasons." I finished off my evening by putting the books away onto the shelves with the help of Speedy, Smoky, Chac and Kisa before I turned in for the evening.
2 days later
I was currently wearing my boating armor ready to check out where the map into the fogbank led me since nobody I knew had ever gone that far in there. I had spent the past 2 days gathering supplies onto my ship, plotting courses, studying the map, carefully picking out my teammates for the trip, picking out some extra weaponry since we don't know what's out there and constructing Gnaws statue for the library to calm my nerves. I boarded the ship with my team, which consisted of Toothless, lightning, Berg, Scaulder, Zap and Ray and Shadow since Snowflake had to stay and keep an eye on the jaguar cubs. I smiled at my team since all my dragons were in their armor and said.
"Okay guys not sure what's out there so keep your guard up and remember I have faith in all of us getting back unharmed."
They growled in understanding before we boarded the ship or in Scaulders case swam to the front and we were off.
7 hours later
We were nearing the location the map showed so I said.
"Keep a lookout guys we're almost there." It was then I saw what the location on the map was. It was a ship graveyard and it wasn't pretty. I turned to Scaulder. "Easy now big guy. No telling what we might find out here."
We continued past sunken and damaged ships. This place gave me the creeps for some reason but then I saw it. The ship from the drawing (AN:The reaper) and it looked creepier in person. I directed Scaulder to a small clearing in the graveyard and had him sit on a nearby rock. I looked at my team and said.
"Okay guys now there's a chance that some of these old ships have some stuff worth taking so while me and Shadow check out the lower decks you guys keep guard because there is no way people just leave ships that just need a few repairs out here unless they were running from something."
They growled in understanding before I had Scaulder take us to one of the nearby ships. I put a gangplank down so Shadow and me could board it. We slowly boarded before I told all my dragons to keep watch and told Zap and Ray to check the bottom of the ocean for any ships that might be able to surface. They growled before diving. I went to the lower decks of the ship and found a couple of barrels along with some gold plates, gold cups and some small gold statues resting on either the floor or on top of the barrels. I then found some chests with jewel encrusted gold on them (AN:The ship the twins checked out.) I turned to Shadow and said.
"What do you say we check out what these barrels have boy?" He barked in reply before I opened one and smiled. "Jewels! Shadow this chest is full of jewels! Looks like we'll be making some money off this trip pal." He barked in agreement before we started transferring all the valuables onto my ship.
10 minutes later
We just finished moving the gold and jewels down into my ships storage and I smiled. I rubbed Shadows head and said.
"Looks like we're getting some more stuff into the vault ay boy?" He barked at me and I laughed before rubbing his head. I turned to my dragons. "We found gold and jewels on the ship guys so that one can be counted as a success. Time to check out the next one."
I directed Scaulder to another ship and we continued our searches. The next ship me and shadow checked out was rickety but we continued. The top deck didn't have anything so I said.
"Come on boy let's check the lower decks since that's where the stuff is normally kept."
He barked before we headed downstairs and when we go there I smiled since I found a pile of books on the floor, some charts on the wall and rolled up maps on a desk.(AN: The Ship Fishleggs checked out!) I smiled and said.
"Awesome more stuff for the library."
We looted that ship of every scrap of knowledge it held and I was looking forward to finding out what knowledge it all held. The next ship I checked out I wasn't as lucky with as the others. I found some gold plates, some gold statues and a chest full of hair (AN: The Ship Snotlout checked out!). Right now I was standing in front of the chest full of hair and asked myself.
"Why in the world would anyone keep a chest full of nothing but hair?" I then saw a painting of what seemed to be the original owners of the hair. "Okay so possibly royal hair. Still a little gross though." I shrugged! "Might as well. Might find some use for it."
I picked the chest up and headed out before returning for the painting and gold objects. Once dropped the stuff in the cargo bay of my ship I heard a screech of terror. I ran back to the top and found Zap and Ray hoping onto the deck. I ran over to them and asked.
"Guys what's wrong?"
They growled towards the sea so I ran over while unsheathing my sword and unfolding my shield. As I reached the railing and looked into the water I saw what scared them so bad. It was giant eels that were now circling my ship and it was then that one of them tried to grab me by jumping at me only to get a hit in the face from my shield. I heard a screech from behind I turned and found one of the eels had gotten on board but a blast from Toothless in the face sent it back into the ship in pain. It was then I felt the ship rock a bit and saw some were ramming into the side. I turned to Burg and said.
"Burg get down below the ships deck and freeze any parts of the wall that are starting to leak water."
He growled and ran down below deck. I turned to Scaulder who was flying above the eels as one tried to grab him. I glared and grabbed a nearby crossbow and shot it as it came out again making it screech in pain and retreat. Scaulder growled in gratitude and I nodded before turning to Lightning and ordered.
"Lightning blast the water! It might drive them off."
He growled before taking to the air and blasting the water around the ship filling it with sparks and flashes. I smiled as I heard the eels screech as their homes were filled with electricity. After one minute of none stop blasting from Lightning he stopped and landed as dead fish surfaced. I smiled and said.
"Great shooting big guy." He growled in appreciation of the compliment before we returned to looting the other ships.
2 hours later
I was smiling happily at my now full cargo hold that held weapons, books, gold, jewels, maps and much more all from these abandoned ships. After exploring them all I found most of them are still in good condition and made a mental note to come back and pick them up some time for restoration and storage. There was only one ship we needed to check out now and that was that mean looking one. I turned to Shadow and said.
"Sorry pal but this one might be booby trapped and the last thing I want is you getting hurt so you'll have to stay here okay." He folded his ears back and whined before I gently pet his head. "Don't worry I'll be fine and if it helps I'm taking Toothless with me to help." He barked in approval before I mounted Toothless and took off to the ship.
We did a circle around it before landing on the deck as I said.
"This ship is definitely not from the archipelago." I looked at one of the cages on the ship. "These carvings on the cages." I looked up at the sail. "The design on the sail I've never seen anything like this." I walked up to one of the cages. "And this metal." Toothless sniffed it and growled so I said. "Relax bud it's just an empty cage." Then a bird flew out spooking us before flying off as Toothless gave me an annoyed look. "Okay now it's an empty cage." We walked over to the entrance to the hull and said. "Come one bud let's see what they're hiding down there." He growled at the entrance. "Okay I'll check it out myself."
Unfortunately just as I kneeled down to open it up a rope wrapped around my leg and released an anchor on the other end and began pulling me over the edge. Fortunately Toothless was able to blast the rope just as I reached the railing. I smiled at him and said.
"Thanks bud but this proves there is something on this ship worth finding if someone went through this much trouble to make sure nobody could get to it." I then went back to the entrance and unfolded my shield just incase any other traps were there.
I smiled, as there weren't but kept my shield out. I had Toothless light a lantern for me before I slowly made my way down the steps but stopped at the last one. I looked closely at the floor since it might have been a trap on it somewhere. I took out a shiny black rock I had I found on one of the other ships and dropped it on the ground. It was a good thing I did or I would have lost a leg since the second the rock hit the floor an old bear trap closed down on it from underneath the floorboards. I smiled and said.
"Fortune favors those who come prepared and think things through first." I smiled as I took the last step and picked up the stone and continued. "Carful bud. There are probably more traps." We continued down the hall and found a large room full of cells. I turned to Toothless who was sniffing the air and said. "Okay bud let's take this nice and-" He approached one of the cells and crooned in sadness. I walked up to the cell and shined some light into it and found "Dragon bones!" I shone light into the other cells and found the same thing. I patted Toothless' head to comfort him and said. "I'm sorry you had to see this bud. Whoever this ship belonged to was no friend of dragons. Let's get out of here bud!"
We continued down the hall passed the cells until one of the floorboards went down and the two crossbows hanging on each side of the entrance fell down and fired. Toothless blocked the two arrows with his wing before another arrow hit my shield from the side before I screamed.
"ALRIGHT TOOTHLESS COME ON LET'S GO!" We ran down the hall as arrows flew at us before we ducked behind some barrels as I held my shield up to keep blocking the arrows but fortunately they had stopped. I turned to Toothless and said. "Okay nobody goes through this much trouble if they're trying to hide something important!" I turned the corner and saw a door with a gold picture on it and knew what it was. "The commanders quarters." I took the stone out again and tossed it down the hall and watched as it rolled checking for any traps. Fortunately there were none but I still felt uneasy about the door so as we approached it I turned to Toothless and said. "Okay so here's the plan-" He cut me off by blasting the door open with a plasma blast. I smiled and said. "I like yours better!" When we entered there were two dragon skulls hanging on the walls on the left and right side of the room and in the middle was a desk with chair. In the chair was torso armor with the top of a dragon skull hanging on the topside of the chair. I looked on the table and saw the strange spy glass thing from the sketches and resting on it was a humans skeleton arm. I walked up to the table and examined the thing and asked. "What is this thing?" I shrugged and said. "Well if it's on this ship it's no good for dragons which means we're not leaving it here for anyone else to find!" I took my sword out and used it to remove the hand in disgust before I put my sword away. I walked closer to the table and kneeled down. I slowly reached out to the device with both hands before I quickly picked it up and pulled it to my body. I let out a sigh of relief and said. "Well that wasn't to-" I was cut off as a giant axe fell where the device was so I yelled in shock. "GIANT AXE! TOOTHLESS RUN." As we got out metal spikes came out of the floor so Toothless picked me up by the back of my armor and carried me over them as I yelled. "WATCH IT TOOTHLESS!" Once we were over the spikes arrows started coming from out front so I held my shield in front of us as we ran for the exit. Once we got out I slammed the trap door shut as I caught my breath and put the device in my satchel.
I turned to Toothless and said. "Okay as soon as we've gotten home and unloaded our stock we are coming back and taking this ship home with us." He looked at me as if I had gone mad so I told him. "Relax bud I have plans for this ship and some of the other ships here and besides we can't leave this ship here for dragon killers can we?" He growled in agreement before we flew back to our ship and worried faces of my dragons and Shadow who walked up to me and whined as he greeted us. I smiled at him and rubbed his head as I said. "Don't worry guys we're fine."
I then remembered the strange device in my satchel. I pulled it out and examined it a bit before deciding it needed to be studied more back at the hideout but first I needed to get the ship I found it on. I walked over to Lightning, Berg, Zap and Ray and said.
"You guys think you can pull the ship home?"
They growled in approval before I went below deck to grab some harnesses I brought just incase and hooked them up to them before I had Toothless fly me over to the ship and tied the other ends of the rope tightly to the masts before I gave my dragons the thumbs up and they began to pull. I had Toothless fly me back to my ship and had Scaulder lead the way home with a new ship in tow and a storage space full of treasure and weapons to melt down and repurpose.
Morning the next day
We finally arrived home after the long trip back while giving my dragons time to rest from pulling that heavy boat and my ship that is now full of new stuff. When we docked as expected we were greeted enthusiastically by everyone and I laughed at their affection before moving the new ship into a dock to be taken care of later. I then unhooked all my dragons that were pulling the ships and said.
"Thanks for all your hard work guys now take a good long rest. You've all earned it!" They growled in appreciation before going to their nests to get some sleep. I smiled before turning to my other dragons and said. "Okay guys we've got a lot of new stuff to unload so we better get to it." They growled in understanding before I started giving out assignments to everyone before helping out with the unloading.
One hour later
We were done unloading everything and I had to say I was pretty happy. All the books, scrolls, maps and charts were now in my library which was now almost half full so it was starting to look more like a library and less like a room full of shelves. All the treasures I such as the gold and jewels were now in my vault, which was also, almost half full which made me smile since if this kept up I'd be the richest man on Berk if I weren't already. As for the extra weapons I found since I only use my Gronkle iron ones I used the ones that were still in good use for wall decorations and gave the broken ones to Smoky who was more than happy to take them to add to the nest he's been building for a with the extra metal I give him. Also the strange device, which I had decided to name 'Dragon Eye', was resting in my bedroom on my desk to be studied later. After that was done I decided to check out the new ship and disarm the traps. I put my battle armor on for it since it has the best defenses out of all my armor which brings us to where I am now standing on the deck of the ship about to enter the hull again hoping to take care of all the traps while Smoky and Toothless waited next to the entrance. Toothless was there to help get me out if I needed it while Smoky was there to take away any metal traps.
I slowly opened it up and entered down the stairs and picked up the trap that was meant to snap my leg off and took it back up and gave it to Smoky who was waiting to pick up new metal for his nest. I smiled before continuing down the hall before stopping at the entranceway to the room full of the cells. I peeked my head in and saw the two crossbows on the walls still there pointing down the hall. I gently dropped a rock in front of both of them and found a trap under the floor like at the steps snap around them probably to keep people from dismantling them. I picked those two traps up and once again gave them to Smoky who at this point was overjoyed with all the metal he was getting.
One and a half hours later
I had finally finished cleaning out the ship of every single trap it could possibly have. Had a couple of close calls like with an axe being flung at my chest which I was fortunately able to dodge or a multitude of arrows being launched at me which I was able to block with my shield or a large mace head swinging down towards me. In addition to these traps I also removed the spikes from the floor, all the cross bows that could fire arrows at me, any more possible snapper traps that could bite my legs off and removed all the dragons skeleton parts and Bones was more than happy to take them for his own nest. Once all the traps were removed I did the ship a look over and knew it needed a lot of work so I added it to my projects. I then decided to check on the Bewilderbeast egg since when it hatched I wanted to be the first thing the hatchling saw. I took off my battle armor leaving me in just a short pair of pants. I entered the hot spring room where the egg was resting and got into the spring where the egg was. I walked up and slowly felt the egg up a bit and smiled as I hugged it feeling the life grow inside it. I let out a contempt sigh as I said.
"Can't wait for you to hatch little buddy!" I then got out of the spring before drying off and leaving for my room to check out the dragon eye.
After I reached my room I sat down at my desk and moved it around in my hands a bit trying to figure out what it did. I studied it, sketched it and tried to open it but it yielded no results. I decided if I wanted this thing to open there was only one thing I could do but I wasn't going to like it. I went down stairs and put on my stealth armor before putting on a satchel. In the satchel I placed the dragons eye! I walked up to Diggs who was laying down eating some fish but as soon as he saw me he stopped and looked at me curiously. I smiled and said.
"Hey big guy I need you to take me to one of the secret entrances." He growled in understanding before he tilted his head as if asking where I wanted to go. I gave his nose a scratch. "Gobbers forge is where I need to go just to get something checked out." He growled in understanding before leaning his head down for me to climb on. I smiled and began to mount him before turning to those present and said. "I'll be back in a bit guys just going out for a bit." They all nodded and growled before I pulled the shield down on Diggs shield and we were off.
It wasn't long before we reached the trapdoor that lead up to the backroom of Gobbers forge and under my old desk. I smiled and said.
"Thanks Diggs! I'll call you when it's time to go back."
He growled in understanding before I climbed up the ladder to the trapdoor. Once I reached the room I couldn't help but look around and smile at all the memories since this is the one place in the village where I could get away from all the disapproving glares and insults of my so called people. I sighed before peeking out the door finding the shops shutters closed which was no surprise since it was the time Gobber was up at the great hall eating lunch. I figured I might as well continue studying the dragon eye while I waited for him.
Half an hour later
I smiled as Gobber entered the forge mumbling to himself. I smiled as he looked up and saw me before jumping back in surprise before glaring and raising his hook as he said.
"Who are you and what are ya doin' in me shop?" I smiled and took off my mask and hood as I said.
"Calm down Gobber it's me." His arm fell limply to his side as his face broke out into a smile.
"Hiccup lad. What are ya doing here? I figured you'd stay away from the village after what happened last time." I frowned.
"Well to be honest Gobber I'd have preferred to stay in hiding but I need your help opening something." I tossed him the dragon eye.
"Found this on an old ship do you think you can open it." He chuckled.
"Can I open it? Lad I once opened a five hundred year old giant clam at the bottom of the ocean with my bear hook!" He looked back and shook his head. "Can I open it? Ha!" He then began twisting it. "I think it's going to be-" He was cut off when some strange sounds started coming out of the dragon eye before a dart launched out going through the window. I looked at Gobber. "Well that was … something." I got up.
"Okay Gobber maybe we should-" He cut me off as he pulled using his hook to get a grip in the lock.
"Trust me I know what I'm doing." Before green gas started spraying out. I quickly covered my mouth and nose as the gas dissipated.
"Perhaps we should do this at Gothi's place just incase one of us needs medical attention because of the traps on the thing." He nodded.
"And how are you going to get there unnoticed lad?"
"I have my ways."
He shrugged before leaving while I went back into the tunnels and had Diggs take me to the entrance at the back of the Great hall. I smiled and thanked him before leaving the caverns and climbing up the mountain, which didn't take long with my armors grappling hook, all the practice with climbing I've done and I used the path up to her hut when I knew nobody would see me. Once I reached the top I found Gobber and Gothi waiting for me. I smiled at Gothi who returned it as Gobber said.
"I updater her on everything and she said she'll help us should either of us get hurt by this thing."
"I call it the dragon eye and thanks Gothi." She nodded before Gobber rolled the dragon eye around in his hand looking it over but as he did Gothi dawned a face of realization on her face before turning around away from Gobber which made me concerned so I asked. "Gothi are you okay? What is it?" She pointer to a scar on her arm and my eyes widened. "Gothi!" before she walked away as I turned to Gobber. "Her scar matches the keyhole!"
"Oh she got that from a dragon but she doesn't like to talk about it."
"I need to know what kind it was. It could be the key to opening the dragon eye." Gobber chuckled before crossing his arms.
"Well don't worry, I have ways of making her talk… Well scribble anyway."
1 hour later
I was still at Gothi's hut except Gobber had just arrived and put a pot down in front of her. As he opened the lid he said.
"It's the old bats weakness!" He then turned to Gothi. "Isn't it?" He then fanned the smell of the soup towards her making her lick her lips. "Come on you know you can't resist Gobbers home made yak noodle soup."
Next thing I knew she was downing it faster than I thought possible to the point she was holding the pot over her head trying to get more. When I saw this I turned to Gobber and said.
"I didn't think anyone could drink an entire pot of soup so fast in my life!" Gobber chuckled before Gothi sat down on a chair behind her and rubbed her stomach happily. I then walked up to her and said. "Now tell me about this bite mark!" She began drawing in the sand to which Gobber translated by saying.
"I was a turkey neck-" Gothi cut him off with a hit from her staff making Gobber quickly say. "Teenager! Sorry." Gothi continued as Gobber continued to translate. "I had a longing to climb Glacier Island to find pure glacier water known for its healing properties. So I went with two vegetables-" Gobber was once again cut off with a hit in the head and corrected himself by saying. "Vikings! Sorry. I'm a bit rusty." Gothi continued with her drawing as Gobber translated. "We had only been at the summit for a few hours before we were hit by a terrible snowstorm. That's when it attacked! It was vicious, relentless and impossible to see in the whiteout. The Snow Wraith! I'll never know why it didn't finish me off that day. I left knowing only one thing. That I never wanted to smooch that dragon again! Smooch that-" Gothi cut him off again with a wack in the face with her staff before Gobber said. "See! Never wanted to see it again." He faced Gothi and said. "You know your drawing isn't what it used to be old women?" Gothi pulled her staff back to strike him but Gobber quickly raised his hands up in defense before saying. "But your swing is strong as ever!"
"Gothi a tooth from the Snow Wraith is the key to unlocking the dragon eye! I've got to find one and train it." She drew in the sand and when Gobber read it he said.
"I can't say that to him he's the chiefs son!" She sketched again and this time Gobber translated. "It would be suicide to go after that thing alone!"
"Trust me Gothi I know what I'm doing and I won't be going alone. I'll bring you back some pure glacier water."
I then hopped right off the edge of her house quickly shooting out my grappling hook and catching a nearby edge before landing on the side of the mountain and started running along its side before pulling my grappling hook back and sliding down a slope to an edge that was only five feet off the ground and jumped to it before making my way to the nearest secret trap door.
Up at Gothi's hut
Nobodies POV:
Gothi and Gobber stared down in shock at what they just saw Hiccup do. Gobber shook his head and said.
"Remind me to ask the lad where in the name of Odin he learned how to do that." Gothi just nods wide eyed not even thinking what Hiccup just did was possible before a voice from behind them asked.
"What are you two staring at?" They turned to see Stoick before Gobber answered.
"Nothing just thought I saw something!" Stoick nodded.
"Gothi I've come for your counseling. I would have been here sooner but someone got shot with a dart in the village square." Gobber scratched the back of his head and looked away at this. "Will Hiccup ever return to the village and if he does what can I do to prove to him that I care?" She draws in the sand and which translates as. 'Ask Gobber he practically raised the boy.' That stung Stoick a bit as she walks back into her hut. "Well Gobber any advice?" Gobber nods.
"Well Stoick the best advice I can give you is to do something about this!"
"You just gestured to all of me!"
"Exactly! Just stop being you and start being a good father." Before he hobbles off leaving a depressed Stoick who has just been reminded of what a failure he was as a father to his son.
Back at Hiccups lair
I was now reviewing my gear and the team I was taking with me to Glacier Island on the back of Toothless after I put the Dragon Eye in the library. On the team was Toothless since he was riding dragon and carrying all the canteens for the Glacier water I promised Gothi. The rest of my team consisted of Blizzard, Shard and Berg since they were made for cold environments and I needed a team who's used to the cold to help me find the Snow Wraith. As for the gear I was wearing my winter armor while Berg wore a saddle I made for carrying heavy supplies and had a large barrel on it (AN:Like the one Meatlug wore in HTTYD 2 when the riders are waiting for Stoick on that glacier.) While Shard and Blizzard wore other versions while Shards one consisted of three bags on each of his sides and contained mostly equipment and ingredients to make medicines and gels should one of us get hurt while Blizzards saddle consisted of a large bag on his back containing food with a tent tied onto the bags side. I was also wearing my stone of good fortune just for luck as I smiled at them before saying.
"Okay guys a Snow Wraiths tooth is our main goal and if we can bring a Snow Wraith back with us as a friend that will be a big bonus. You guys were chosen because you specialize in the type of environment the Snow Wraith lives in so I'm counting on you guys to find it! Understood?" They roared in understanding before we took off out of the cave to Glacier Island.
2 hours later
We landed on the snow at the peek of Glacier Island next to a lake full of glacier water and saw no sign of the Snow Wraith. I dismounted Toothless and walked over to Berg and Blizzard and unloaded the canteens so I could start collecting the Glacier water. Once all the canteens were unpacked I turned to Shard and Blizzard before saying.
"You guys scout the area and if you find the Snow Wraith come get me immediately." They growled before flying off while I turned to Toothless. "Keep guard bud while I fill the canteens." He growled before getting into position. I then walked over to Berg. "Just relax big guy while I load up your saddle with the canteens when they're full." He growled and gave a nod before lying down while I got to work.
Half an hour later
I just finished filling all the canteens up with the pure glacier water and putting them back in Bergs saddle. I smiled and turned to Toothless as I said.
"Look at that bud. Fifteen canteens of pure glacier water! Gothi is going to owe me big time."
He just went back to guarding before a roar was heard. I looked up and saw Blizzard and Shard flying down towards me. I ran up to them and asked.
"What is it guys? Did you find the Snow Wraith?" They nodded but they seemed anxious about something, which worried me. "What's wrong guys?" They merely pointer their heads in the direction they just came from so I walked up to Toothless and mounted him. "Come on bud let's see what has the guys so worried." We took off with Blizzard and Shard leading the way.
It didn't take long for us to arrive at a large ice cave. We landed and I dismounted Toothless before walking up to Blizzard and Shard before asking them.
"Is the Snow Wraith in there?"
They nodded before gesturing me to go in deeper. I did and as I got deeper I began to hear something that sounded like a roar of pain. The sound only made me advance faster till eventually I was running towards the sound. When I got to the end of the cave I found a huge room with a Snow Wraith in it and it looked like the Snow Wraith had gotten its wing stuck under some blocks of ice. I noticed it was by the wall so my best guess is that there was a small avalanche and that one got caught in it trapping its wing. I slowly came through the entrance, which is when it took notice of my dragons and me. It growled at me as I held up a hand signaling my dragons to stay back before I disarmed myself of anything that might be considered a weapon before I approached the Snow Wraith who was growling and glaring daggers at me as I said.
"Easy now. I want to help you free your wing."
It still glared at me but stopped growling. I checked out the boulders covering the wing and saw it was made of ice. I knew I could chip it away with my armors mini pick axes. I went back to my discarded gear and picked them up along with some dragon nip from Shards' saddlebag. I first brought the dragon nip up to the Snow Wraiths nose to calm it down hoping it would work and fortunately it did so I put it by the Snow Wraiths head to keep it calm while I worked on the ice on its wing. I would have had Toothless help melt the ice but I didn't want the Snow Wraith feeling threatened so I began breaking down the ice one chunk at a time.
Half an hour later
I just removed the final chunk of ice and smiled at my work until I felt hot breath on the back of my neck. I turned to see the Snow Wraith staring right at me. I gulped knowing it might attack now that it was free until it did something I wasn't expecting. It nuzzled me and purred. I smiled and gently pet his head before I decided to take the risk and stepped back, took my glove off, held my hand out, turned my head and closed my eyes. I waited a few seconds before I felt a scaly hide against my hand and smiled. I turned my head and found the Snow Wraith press his head against my hand. I smiled as I gave it a scratch to which he purred. I smiled and said.
"There's a good boy." I then felt the cold on my hand . "I better get my glove back on before I catch frostbite." Then it hit me. "That's what we'll call you Frostbite."
He growled in approval liking the name. I smiled before gesturing my dragons over to get introductions out of the way. Frostbite growled at them but I gently stroked the side of his head and said.
"Easy there now big fella. We're all friends here." He growled in reluctant agreement before we got introductions taken care of I looked back at Frostbite. "You know anything worth checking out on this island?"
He gave a nod before he flew up and then began to burrow into the wall of snow like a whispering death digs through earth. I smiled before mounting Toothless and yelling.
"FOLLOW THAT SNOW WRAITH!" Toothless roared before we took off after Frostbite.
We followed him through the ice for a few minutes before we finally reached the end which turned out to be an opening into a much larger cave. Inside the cave was an old abandoned ship far beyond my capability to repair it. I had Toothless take us down to it. When we landed I checked the deck out and saw this one ship was probably older than Gothi and Mildew combined. I looked at Frostbite and said.
"Man now this place is ancient big guy. I wonder if there's anything we can salvage from it."
I then turned around and found a skeleton looking at me. At first it gave me a fright but then I realized it couldn't hurt me I walked up to it and checked it out but the thing that surprised me the most was the emblem on the coat he was wearing. It was a hawk with its wings opened up with a star behind it. I recognized the symbol from stories Gobber used to tell me about a man named Harold Hawkmoor. He was a very wealthy man said to have as much riches as the Hamishes our most wealthy chief but unlike the Hamishes Hawkmoor was greedy and feared people would steal his fortune for their own so one night he took every piece of gold and jewelry he had and took off on his ship but Harold and his ship were never found. I turned to Frostbite and said.
"I think you just helped me find a man who people have been trying to find for five hundred years big guy!"
He merely tilted his head before I heard a cracking sound and before I could figure what the sound was the floor fell apart beneath my feet as I screamed. Fortunately it wasn't a big drop but only a few feet before I landed on something jingly. I lifted what was in my hand and found it to be gold coins. I looked at what I was sitting on and found more gold with some jewels to. I looked around and found the entire hull full of gold coins, jewels, gold statues and plenty of jewelry. I was amazed at how much money there was and said.
"The treasure of Harold Hawkmoor!"
I looked around and found the entire hull was full of more gold and jewels then my armory has weapons. I heard a crooning from above me and looked up finding Toothless and my other dragons looking down at me. I smiled and said.
"I'm fine guys but we are definitely flying this ship back with us!" They growled in understanding before Shard let his tail down into the holed to help me back up. I smiled and climbed it out of the hole before turning to Frostbite. "Think you can dig us a tunnel out of here big enough to fit the ship?" He growled before he was digging a tunnel through that ice like it was nothing. I smiled as I hooked my dragons up to the ship to carry it back to the lair.
4 hours later
We arrived back at the lair my dragons including Frostbite laying the ship down next to the vault for unloading. Once it was laid down I introduced everyone to Frostbite before I told him and my other cold climate dragons to rest up in the ice dens room where their nests were waiting including one I had made for Frostbite in advance incase we were able to bring a Snow Wraith back with us. Once I removed their saddles I closed the door to their dens I attached Coal to a wagon and began loading it with the gold and jewels from the ship and knew that it was going to take more than one trip like it to fully unload the ship but fortunately my capuchin and night monkeys helped me load the wagon faster by tossing the stuff in while I used a bucket to toss the stuff into the wagon. Once the wagon was full we had barely made a dent in the valuables on the ship. This made me smile as I said.
"Okay it's official I'm the richest guy on Berk."
It was true for one of my punishments my dad forced me to check every one of village members wealth level and count every coin in Berks gold supply all under supervision of course since he probably thought I'd mess it up or get it stolen somehow.
After seven more wagons full we had finally finished unloading all the gold and jewels, which were now resting in my vault, which was now so full, I could swim in the valuables in it. I smiled at my riches before closing the vault door and locking it tight. I smiled before I remembered I had to deliver the Glacier water to Gothi when a sneaky idea came to mind. I walked into the cold den room and found the dragons resting in their dens before my eyes landed on Frostbite. I smiled and walked up to him before scratching the side of his head and asking.
"Hey big guy how would you like to help me on a delivery run?" He tilted his head in confusion. "It's also for a little laugh." He growled at me before giving a nod and getting up. I smiled at him. "This is going to be fun!" I then had him pick up the basket that held the canteens with the Glacier water before I mounted Toothless and we took off towards the village.
When we got there it was nightfall and every one was either in their homes or at the Great hall eating dinner. As were flying over the village I saw Gothi outside her hut sitting in a chair eating what I assume was soup out of a ball. I told Frostbite to keep hovering until I gave him the signal before me and Toothless flew down landing in front of Gothi as I smiled at her. She looked at me before putting down her bowl and walking up to me and scribbling in the dirt. Fortunately I picked up a few things from Gobber so I could translate what she was saying as.
'Welcome back! Did you find what you were looking for?' I smiled before I gave the signal to Frostbite.
"Oh did I ever!"
Frostbite then landed behind me as Gothi backed up in fear before glaring and charging at him with her staff but as she swung it to hit him he caught it in his mouth and growled while glaring at her. I chuckled as I walked over to them and said.
"I see you two remember each other." She glared at me before I signaled Frostbite to let go of her staff before she hit me with it. I rubbed my head. "Okay now I know how Gobber feels but come on Gothi I brought you back the Pure Glacier Water you wanted." She just glared at me as I unloaded the water. "Here's all the water we were able to collect for you." She simply stared at the canteens uneasily. "Don't worry the only thing in these is what you asked for." She nodded "Well Gothi it's been nice seeing you and learning how strong you can hit a person with your staff when you're annoyed." She simplt smiled at me. "Now all I need is a tooth from Frostbite." As I turned to Toothless Gothi grabbed me with her staff and pulled me back. "What is it?" She simply held up her staff which I now noticed had one of Frostbites teeth stuck in it. I smiled and slowly pulled it out. "Thank you Gothi now I have some work." I mounted Toothless and we returned home.
When we got there I immediately ran into the library and over to the Dragon eye. I slowly inserted the tooth into the keyhole and said.
"Well here goes nothing." I twisted it and much to my surprise nothing happened. I checked it over a bit and twisted the head a little but still nothing. I sighed in frustration. "You know what it's late maybe I'll figure it out tomorrow so might as well get some sleep." I led my dragons to their dens. "Goodnight guys." They all growled in reply before I looked at the Dragon eye and mentally asked myself. "What do you do." I then noticed a light shining out of the dragon headed side and shining onto the wall with what seemed to be what looked like drawings. I turned to where the back was facing and saw Toothless heating up his den so I said. "Toothless come over here a minute bud!" He did so with a confused look before I held the dragon eye in front of his mouth and said. "Do that again bud! Give me low flame!" He did so before the light came out of the dragon eye projecting some stuff (AN: The same stuff it showed when Hiccup first got it working!) I stared at what was being shown on the wall. "This can change everything!"
AN: Hey guys I hope you liked the new chapter because it might be the last for a while because I'm going to focus some time on my Alpha and Omega stories so please be patient, review and if you have any questions please PM me!
