Hi Everybody! This story has been floating around my brain for quite some time and my muse with SherLoki's help managed to push it to the for front of my mind. From there, it took on a life of it's own!
I am not kidding when I stay the whole damn story started writing itself so I guess it was meant to come out now. I've been a huge Star Trek nerd for quite some time and you can obviously pick out just *Who* my favorite character happens to be. I just finally got the guts to give writing my very own Star Trek story a go. I hope you all enjoy it!
I just wanted to add a little note here that Nyota and Christine are not that nice in this story and if that bugs you it might not be the story you are looking for. I just thought it would be fair to slap up a quick warning about that!
Also, please be on the look out for chapters of my other stories to pop up some time soon!
Happy reading y'all!
Annalise
25 year old Annalise Kirk let out an extremely grumpy sigh. She never signed up for any of this bullshit…well, alright, so she never wanted to sign up for any of this bullshit but Jim and Bones pretty much forced her to do it. As much as she just wanted to continue wasting away in the middle of 'bumfuck nowhere, Iowa' as she now affectionately called it, they flat out refused to let that happen.
At first, it was just Jim. In the beginning, all they had was each other. While his mother was very kind and loved both her and Jim unconditionally, Jim's step-father was a whole other unfortunate story. The man was an asshole with a capital A, and because Jim's mom went off planet so frequently they ended up his line of fire.
Unfortunately, because she possessed a vagina, Frank seemed to target her so much worse than Jim. It was hell, Jim did try and protect her the very best that he could, but sometimes it just wasn't enough. She and Jim endured his bullshit all the way up until she turned 18, and he was 21.
At that point in her life, she felt so hopeless that she just wanted to rot away but Jim refused to let that happen. Instead he tried to convince her get out of Iowa and join the Starfleet academy in San Francisco. He never failed to tell her how amazing she was and how she was worth so much more than wasting away in Iowa. He thought she could do amazing things if given half a chance to do so.
Every time he told her that, she told him that he was on some kind of crack-cocaine.
Eventually, she couldn't put up with Frank's bullshit anymore and decided to finally follow Jim's advice (the most sound advice she's ever heard him give in her life) and decided to enroll in the Starfleet Academy. It turned out to be the best decision that she ever made.
For the first time in her whole life, she finally felt free to do what she wanted when she wanted to do it, and she never felt the need to look over her shoulder. She could finally start making a life for herself.
After everything she went through, she decided that if she could somehow help a person going through something similar to what she did or help people in general, then she would learn a way to do that. She originally wanted to become a doctor, but classes were a little too daunting for her so she decided to become a medical assistant instead. She also took Vulcan classes on the side too.
The Vulcan race as a whole fascinated her and she jumped at the chance to learn more about them. She would never forget her first class with Spock. It was the first time she had seen a Vulcan in the flesh. She had heard rumors around school that he was an emotionally constipated hard ass.
Unfortunately, the rumors did absolutely nothing to prepare her for the real thing. He was very tall, extremely handsome, and it felt as if those dark eyes of his could see right through her. He made her feel totally exposed and she hated it.
For the first time ever, Annalise Kirk had no idea how to act around somebody and she hated it. Being in his intimidating presence, made her so shy and awkward and it was so embarrassing.
Halfway through her first year, Jim decided to get his head out of his ass and decided to join her at Starfleet Academy. Knowing his issues with Starfleet, it made her extremely proud that he was able to set them aside and make something of himself. She knew that his dad would be very proud of him too. It was so nice having him there with her.
Unfortunately, making new friends had never been her strong suit and having Jim there really helped her feel less lonely. Everything was just fantastic until he found out about her unfortunate inability to function properly around Spock.
After he found out, he wouldn't shut up about it. Ever. He would tease her about it every chance he got. It drove her absolutely up the wall and she hadn't figured out a way to make him stop yet.
As she and Jim progressed through school, he flourished and she took a bit of a slower pace. Considering at that she's been through in her life, a slower pace suited her better anyway.
Despite her slower pace, she excelled in all of her classes. So much so that she caught the attention of Dr. Lenard 'Bones' McCoy who taught most of her Medical Assistant classes.
He took her under his wing and it took no time at all for him to become family just like Jim was. If Jim wasn't there to help, Bones was there for her. It was so nice to have another ally in her corner.
When she and Jim finally graduated, he was immediately assigned to the U.S.S Enterprise, and now captains said starship. She, on the other hand, decided that she needed to let go of some of her past demons before she let herself get stuck in a 'tin can' in space for lord knows how long. No matter how lovely said 'tin can' was.
It took some time, but eventually she gained enough confidence to accept her first mission and get assigned to a starship. Of course, Jim and Bones pulled the appropriate strings so she would end up assigned to the U.S.S Enterprise with them.
Finally, she was going to be able to put all of her hard work and training to the test.
She could only pray that she made it through the whole mission in one piece and didn't kill anyone along the way.
