Chapter 201
Hiccups POV:
It's been ten weeks since my return from Valhalla and in that time a lot has happened with all I've been doing like helping my new dragons settle in, studying their capabilities, spending time with my friends and family and of course studying what my new gifts were capable of including the new dragon eye lenses. The dragons were now officially settled in with my alpha's settling into their new nests to the point I was able to fully study them and find out their names and genders. The Bifröst wing is a female I've named nebula, the Eclipse eye is a male I've named Solaris, the stone shell dragon is a male I've named Crusher, the soul guardian is a male I've named Elder, the Blizzard wisp is a male I've named Snowbank, the Black Death is surprisingly a female I've named Reapa and the Midgard Quaken is a female I've named Jörd because she looks like a living volcano on Earth so why not name her after the Earth giantess that represents Mother Earth of Norse mythology
Along with them Flora and Electra, had settled in well with them both finding a spot on my island with Flora finding a job in my garden and my greenhouse. It turns out her sap helps plants grow and her species enjoys taking care of the plants which are things that I learnt from the dragon eye lens concerning floral furies. Electra, on the other hand had taken to helping out the fishing dragons by diving into the water and electrifying it, killing the fish making it easier to collect them. As for their interaction with my island's night furies, Twilight was able to wrap them around her little paw like she did to Toothless. Toothless on the other hand was having a bit more of a difficult settling in with them though since he has as much skill with females as I did when I first met him. Any attempts to get close to the two females ended with him either covered in Flora's sap or getting mild zaps from Electra who felt a little creeped out by his advances. I'd just chuckle when I saw his attempts since it was pretty funny but when he was done I'd help him clean up any sap Flora had shot at him.
Then there's the gifts I got from the gods and the dwarves starting with the gifts I got from the dwarves that were to be used for mining, meaning the pickaxe and shovel. I used them on dragon island in the diamond mine since I didn't know what these things would do, and I did not want to take the chance with my more dangerous minerals in my own mine. When I tried each of these items I was more than surprised by their capabilities and knew as soon as I used them in my mines, collecting the minerals would be a piece of cake. To begin with when the pick axe strikes a wall it makes an indent that's ten feet wide and five feet deep but the best part is it destroys all the rubble leaving all the minerals unharmed so my automatons were easily able to collect them. Then there's the shovel, when I tried to pick up a small boulder with it, it was light as a feather and when I tightened my grip a bit the boulder turned to rubble leaving the diamonds within it piled on the head. All in all, I was happy with what these two items could do since they've made my life a whole lot easier when it comes to collecting minerals from my mines.
Following this I decided to check out what the bag lord Loki gave me contained and found it to be filled with different colored balls that were smaller than my eye. (AN: Marble sized.) At first, I didn't think much of them thinking this was another joke from the god of pranks but then I threw a yellow one and it burst with light that was so bright it blinded me. After that I didn't dare throw another one until I was in my training mirror where I could test out all of the different on some opponents and I was not disappointed with their abilities.
To begin with there were the orange balls that I named the flashfire balls since the second they hit something they let out a small explosion of flames. There're the black beads which I'd named the black smoke beads since when they hit something they explode with black smoke that was impossible to see through except through the eye of the dragon and when another person comes out they are covered in black powder that they can't get off unless scrubbed hard with warm water. There are the clear balls that I called the absorbers since they absorb the gas from my prosthetic and its more gas then they should be able to since they would absorb a cloud of the gas and when they hit something they release it. There're the silver balls that I'd named the multi balls since when they're thrown they multiply forming twenty-five others like it that fall to the ground and when a person runs on them, they'll trip on them so it would help me with escaping. There are also the dark blue balls which I called 'the bouncers' the reason being when I pull one out and squeeze it, it grows to become palm sized and then when I drop or throw it, it bounces around nonstop for three minutes. The thing is though that with every bounce they gain more speed and height while also becoming hard as gronkle iron so when they hit somebody it's like being struck by a gronkle.
Those balls are mainly for offense but there are some that are to be used for capturing my enemies starting the light green balls I called the goo balls since when I toss them they explode with goo on impact leaving the victim stuck in goo. Also, there were the dark green ones that I called the 'bubble balls' which would be helpful in capturing people since when I throw them they grow to a size that's slightly taller than my father and when they hit a person they'd be trapped in the bubble. While in the bubble the victims can't move but they can see, and I could also roll them around so it would make capturing enemies a whole lot easier. Along with all this my prosthetic was able to launch them like it was able to launch the balls minerals were turned into making it easier to use them.
After this I went out to study the modifications to my ship and what the bag goddess Hela had given to me contained and started out with a small note. It told me that in order to activate the gift I first need to board my ship and when I did the same white orb that bound the ship to my will before the bag opened up and fourteen palm sized ships that floated into the orb. When this happened, I could feel power surge through my ship and when I took off on it I tried willing it to use its new power and was surprised when it launched seven green balls out of each side with each one being further than the last. A few second later the balls sunk into the water and then where each ball sunk, a single Viking ship rose out of the water before Viking warriors appeared on board. They all let out cries of battle and held up their weapons shocking me before I smiled knowing that I now had a small armada of fifteen ships all, ready to go and attack enemy ships.
I spent the rest of that day on my ship having the armada attack some ships in the ship graveyard so I could get some ideas on what they were capable of. From this I learnt that they were each armed with four catapults on either side of the decks that can launch one flaming boulder, every half a minute and they could drop down gang planks before the warriors' board ships. When I was done the ships sunk into the water before the balls floated up into the water and were pulled back into my ships sides so they could be used again later. I also tried out some of my ships other abilities to check for other improvements that it might have been given by its creators and I was not the least bit disappointed.
To begin with the bottom part of my ship can now open small slots and launch large metal ballistae bolt like things that are thicker and fly through the water at high speeds so when they hit a ship they create a large hole in the hull. (AN: Think torpedo's guys) Along with this the storage hold had a new section in it through a door at the back of the room and I was surprised since when I opened it I found myself in a room that was so cold icicles had formed on the ceiling so I'd be able to store food for a longer time. Along with this the crystal map also got an upgrade since now it's able to lift up and show me what's in the ocean beneath my ship including some old shipwrecks I hadn't been to. I'd been using this ability to help me find some more shipwrecks to loot and as expected I got a large fortune of artifacts and treasures that are now resting in my treasury.
Then there's the dragon eye lenses which I spent an entire afternoon studying since it had a lot of information on the alpha class dragons and I figured if I was going to look after them I needed to know what I'm dealing with. After that I studied the lenses on Floral fury's and Electro furies since they were the two breeds of nightfury I did have, and I wanted to know more about them. To begin with the electro fury is a strike class dragon that is thought to be the results of a Skrill mating with a Night Fury when it was really born after the god Thor's magic was absorbed by a group of nightfury's. The lightning like markings all over their bodies, will always glow at the presence of electricity like in. They fire plasma blasts enhanced with lightning allowing them to destroy more than most of it's the other subspecies of nightfury.
The 'Floral Fury' feed only on plant life and are highly allergic to most proteins causing them to become ill and vomit up the contents of their stomach. This species of dragon spends most of its life taking care of plants it enjoys feeding on and is one of the few dragons who are immune to Oleander flowers and actually eat them a lot. They are able to fire a mixture of tree sap and flower pollen of which is incredibly sticky, but it can be used to help a lot of plants grow faster and stronger. It's also a rare dragon to find, some elves have called it a phantom dragon who "Bless" the land they live on with bountiful crops and wonderful plant life.
As for the ones I don't have yet to find and train starting with the other night fury sub species of Alfheim which is the 'stealth fury' and I could how that name was earned since there wasn't much known about it. All that's really known about is it's a subspecies of night fury and is considered the weakest among all the various sub species and I could understand why since all it had for defence a paralyzing blast that lasts for a short while like the flightmare. Along with this the dragon has a camouflage ability similar to changewings but unlike the changewings they can also modify their scales composition. This species rarely exposes itself to elves or any other creature in the realm that is not one of its own and it mostly feeds mostly on amphibians.
Besides Alfheim the only Niðavellir held two subspecies of nightfury while all the other realms only had one subspecies, so things were a little more interesting. To begin with there's the 'Tera Fury' which has a thick complexion that appears to greatly resemble dirt and rocks, this dragon but it also has the unique ability to change the texture and context of its scales to further it camouflage while it is exposed. Surprisingly this dragon is able to dig through the ground with digging speed that can rival a whispering death, but it can be slowed down with loud noises. The reason is unlike most species of dragon this species is more attuned to sound due to its poor eyesight so it is also known as the "Blind Fury" and the reason this dragon's eyes are no longer of use to it due to it being a subterranean species. Also due to this it mainly feeds on underground rodents, worms and most tree roots.
Then there's the 'Iron Fury' which is a subspecies of nightfury that has a habit of covering itself in molten iron that it uses as an armour even though it doesn't need it. It is believed that it makes the armour to train itself to get faster and stronger and finding one of these dragons means finding a rich source of iron ore. Because of this it is one of the slower sub subspecies and when this dragon sheds its armour it will go into a frenzy making a new set and it won't stop until it finishes its new set.
After these two is the dragon that is native to Vanaheim which is called the 'Mimic Fury' and this name was definitely a suitable name for this subspecies. The reason is this species of Fury has a habit of mimicking other species when it moves into a new habitat and like the dramillian dragons it can mimic other dragons' blasts. Along with this I learnt that when this dragon sheds its scales it will change colours and will then devour its discarded scales. It can be said that this dragon will mimic human actions if it sees them as a way of survival showing the reason it mimics other is so it can adapt to new environment. As for its diet, it has a taste for Octopi, squids and other tentacle species, but it avoids certain section of the ocean of Vanaheim where whales and dolphins live because their sound waves mess with their heads, confusing it and often leading to it drowning because it can't tell which way the air is.
There's also the Aqua Fury from Jotunheim, which is a tidal class with wings and fins that are more elegant allowing it to swim gracefully through the water while a secondary set of fins below the tail allow it to move at accelerated rates. This dragon also has scales that are said to be a rich aqua like colour giving them camouflage to hunt its prey or hide from possible threats within the water they live in. When this dragon feels threatened it is known to rival its Night Fury cousin in speed with the exception of it being under water. All in all, this dragon was one I'd like to have when I do my underwater ship wreck looting with Tephra and the other tidal classes on my underwater team.
Surprisingly, Niflheim also has its own species of dragon that evolved from the nightfury which is surprising since it's so cold I figured any nightfury would immediately freeze to death. Unsurprisingly this species is known as the 'Frost Fury' which as expected looks like a nightfury, but tail fins and ear flaps are a bit more jagged with smoother edges. This dragon species breaths a chilling blast that freezes anything it hits instantly so it's not surprising that this dragon species thrives in cold climates. Sadly it has alos been known to subconsciously freeze itself as it hangs upside down to sleep but it's able to easily break out. Its scales have a dark blue colouring which allows it to blend in with the ice around it alongside the light that bounces off the reflections.
Muspelheim surprisingly alsohad its own subspecies that like all the other subspecies was able to absorb some of the realms magic allowing them to adapt, survive and eventually evolve into a species known as 'blaze furies'. This dragon has dark crimson colouring because it has a habit of hiding among large flames that it creates to ambush targets or hide from possible threats. It breaths a strong fire blast that could be seen a plasma torch and has been known to be able to pierce through metal that's considered dragon proof. Also due to the magic that caused the evolution this subspecies of the Nightfury species, has spines that are more narrow, with fins and wing giving the appearance of flames.
Finally, there is the final species that's native to the realm of Helheim which surprised me since most creatures that enter that realm are dead within days. This subspecies is called the 'Phantom Fury' and like the Bonenapper dragon uses the bones of deceased creatures for its armour and because of this, it is unknown what it truly looks like. Unlike the Boneknapper dragons, this dragon is not picky about what bone it desires for its armour and will even add more bones from dead piles. It's said that during its mating season, the female Phantom fury will pursue the male with the largest bone pile.
After I went over the information of this dragon I spent my time memorizing all I could about the information so I'd have an easier time figuring out where the dragons can be found, what I should feed them, what I should avoid and how I could train them. Sadly I often got so wrapped up in my research that I occasionally forgot to eat, sleep and bath which is something my wives weren't too happy about. Still though they knew how much this all meant to me so they would bring me meals and if it got too late they'd force me to take a break and head to bed and they'd often get me to take a bath by taking it with me and offering to wash my back. This went on for about a week before I'd gotten all I needed and was able to enjoy some down time in which I was able to just kick back and relax a bit while going over various things I'd need prepare for this journey. I knew I'd have to be especially careful and on guard in Jotunheim and Muspelheim since I know I wasn't exactly liked by the main residents of those realms. The Frost giants live in Jotunheim and the fire giants live in Muspelheim and both races had come to Midgard with plans that I stopped so I doubt any of their kinds would be happy to see me.
Now I was standing on the edge of the crater in my Arctic wolf armor while looking down at the orb I was given by Odin in my hand wondering when it'd activate. It was then the orb I was holding in my hand began glowing brightly before it floated out of my hand and down into the crater where it rapidly began spinning as a blizzard quickly began forming. It was then there was a large shockwave that actually succeeded in pushing me back a good twenty feet, but I still remained standing and watched as something began to happen. Ice began forming around the crater as a giant glacier grew right out of the crater and it kept growing to the point that it filled the entire crater.
Slowly giant chunks of ice began falling from the glacier as it took a new form entirely as two rows of large curved ice shards burst from the ground in front of me forming a pathway towards the glacier. I watched as all this happened and continued to do so as the blizzard around the glacier picked up to the point that I couldn't tell what was happening to the glacier. When the blizzard finally cleared my eyes widened at the sight since the glacier now looked like a Quetzalcoatl dragon that is curling up towards the sky and between its wings is a large thin dome like construct that is being suspended above the ground with icicles growing from the underside. There were six individual towers coming out of the top with three that are closer to the chest of the Dragon and three closers to the right-wing. There was one that's taller which was going straight up and close to the chin of the dragon's head in height. The other two were shorter giving the towers a step pattern in a way since one is smaller to the second one and the second one is smaller to the third one. (AN: If you're having trouble picturing this than just google 'that time I got reincarnated as a slime palace of white ice' and use that.) I stared at the building before I sighed and ran a hand through my hair and said.
"The gods really do give me gifts that are full of surprises." I took a breath and smiled. "Better see what this place has to offer."
I then began walking towards the new monument in this frozen wasteland wondering what this new place had to offer and what my other gift has. Getting to the base of the dragon didn't take long and when I got there, I found the bottom was the lower tail curled up around a small dome shaped building. There was a large hole in the tail with a giant door made of ice with the symbol of Yggdrasil carved into the center of it and when I touched it, the door wasn't cold at all. A second later the doors opened up allowing me access to the building to see what was waiting for me inside this large building ground floor. When I walked in I made my way into the middle of the room and looked around to see what kind of room I was standing in and I was not disappointed with what I saw.
I was standing in the middle of a circular room with the symbols of the dragon classes engraved on the floor while right above me was a giant chuck of ice that looked like multiple crystals sticking out of it. Circling this crystal were multiple windows shining the light of the day into the room and allowing me a good view of what was happening outside. After that I looked around the room and found the walls were lined with stable doors and when I looked into one of the rooms, I found myself looking into dragon stables. These stables had a large flat stone at the back for dragons to sleep on, a water trough against the right wall and next to it was a food basket. It wasn't that hard to figure out this entire room was a dragon stable for any dragons I bring with me to these colder regions of the world and as an added bonus a thin sheet of ice could be dropped from above the door locking the dragons in if they need a timeout. It was then my eyes landed on a door against the wall opposite to the door leading to the outside and figured it might lead to another room or possibly a stairway.
I walked up to the door and pressed my hand against the door and like the first door it opened allowing me access but when I walked in I found myself in a small empty room that was circular in shape with a nightfury engraved in the floor. I looked around but didn't see anything before the door closed behind me and then the engraving on the floor began to glow before I felt the ground beneath me begin to rise. I turned to the walls much to my surprise it shined for a brief moment before it became clear as glass and I was able to see out of them and what was happening outside and saw that I was being lifted up by the platform but I didn't know where I was being lifted to.
It was then the platform stopped rising and the door opened behind me and I turned to find myself looking into a large room and I walked out to see what it was. The roof was dome shaped with the lining being ice with glass in between it and it had a stain glass image of the Yggdrasil in the center of it. The walls were also made of pure ice but the thing about this room that shocked me the most since standing there in the middle of the room was the corrupted tree only now it looked brand new with healthy brown bark and green leaves growing from it. I stared at the tree in shock since I could somehow tell there was more to it than meets the eye before I noticed some doors against the walls. I shrugged and figured it best I check this place out and see what this place has to offer me while I wait for my other gift from Odin to activate.
Nightfall
It's been hours since I first entered this new place and I had to say this place was amazing since I'd been checking out the rooms and found them all to need to be accessed by the platforms lifting me up to them. The first platform took me to a giant storeroom with shelves and baskets to store food with another door at the back that leads to a cold storage room. Along with this there was also a large dining room with a long table that had a single chair at the end, with both being made of ice and the walls were lined with unlit torches. At the back was a door leading to a large kitchen with a small island in the middle of it, built in tables lined the walls with cupboards beneath them, on the wall were knives that were hung up, between some of the tables were two firepits with one possessing a large pot over it and the other a skewer, the roof was made of glass made up the roof, torches hung on the walls and at the back of the room was a door leading to a hall with a door at the end that leads to the food storage room to collect goods for cooking. I could tell these two rooms were in the two shortest towers that were connected by a hall that formed a bridge allowing me to reach either one.
Another room that this place had was a bath house that starts out with a changing room that has some benches and shelves with baskets to hold clothes. There were also a few shelves with towels resting on them and after feeling these towels I was tempted to take a bath as they were softer than alpaca fur. On the far-right corner were a few doors leading to rest rooms with ice holes for a person to do their business in while at the back of the room was the door leading to the room with the bath. The bath was giant circle shaped bath that took up most of the room with a large path circling around it. The ceiling had a large circle roof lined with a window letting light in while the walls had large ice pillars supporting it with each holding a torch.
The next tower I explored was filled with multiple guest rooms that all simply had a bed made of ice with a light blue sheets and pillows against the left wall, a side table made of on either side of it, torches on the walls above the side tables and against the wall opposite to the door is a wall sized window looking out onto the snow filled landscape. Following this tower is a training room which is a large room which had a roof like the bathroom, but the walls had multiple hooks for weapons to be hung on. Along with this the middle of the floor can sink down into the ground leaving a path circling around so people could watch people spar within the pit.
Then there's the final tower that was the highest of all the towers was the main bedroom and I had to say it was a room I was going to enjoy. The bed was pressed against the back wall on a platform and it was large bed that would be able to fit me, my wives and possibly a few others. At the foot of the bed was a wolf's head with its paws coming out from beneath it with intricate patterns running around the bed's edges all made of ice. The headboard was a smooth curved shape in the middle with a fur lining on top of it with wolf head shapes on either end sticking out towards the walls and like the foot it was made of ice. The mattress was lined with a white fur sheet, an ice blue blanket with white embroidery around the edges while the pillows at the end of the bed also had ice blue cases. (AN: Look up Overlord 2, Kelda and find an image of her bed but in ice blue with ice instead of gold.) The wall it was resting against was the only wall in the room as the rest were windows looking out onto the snow-covered landscape with the ceiling also being glass. Against the windows going around the room though there were ice sculptures of bears that were each holding a bowl that were going to light up like torches. a little bit away from the windows was a panel on the floor. When I pressed down on it by accident few feet away from the window to the right corner of the bed an ice couch with a fur blanket lining it rose from the floor. After this I began checking the floor for others and found one that released a cupboard to store clothes in, a table with chairs and an empty bookshelf.
Then finally there was the final room that surprised me the most as this room wasn't in any of the towers, but the mouth of the dragon and this room was cool. The entire place was ice like the rest of the place with the walls being windows looking to the outside and, in the room, there was only one single thing. A round table with the symbol for the tree of Yggdrasil carved into it and a throne at the head of it with a letter sitting on the table in front of it. When I read the letter, it read.
Dear Hiccup
Once again, the nine realms owe you a debt of gratitude for what you have done and we hope this new base in our lands will aid you in the future. As you may have figured out the tree on the lower floor is the one the dark elves corrupted and intended to use to destroy Yggdrasil but it has been cleansed and shall now serve as a symbol of what this place is truly meant for. This symbol of Yggdrasil stands for the unity of the different realms and we ask that this place be used as both a fortress to protect the tree while also acting as a meeting place for you and your allies in the future. It is within this land very few beings have set foot and it is this reason we felt that whenever you wish to negotiate things with your allies without fear of being your meeting being spied on or disrupted by outside interference. This fortress may also be of use to you as a base for any expeditions you have in these lands or simply use it as a place to get some peace and quiet away from everything. Also, we feel it best to inform you that the other gift Lord Odin gave you shall activate under the light of the full moon and in front of the tree on the lower floor. We thank you once more for all you have done for the realms and our land Hiccup Haddock and we wish you luck on your latest expedition across the nine realms in search of the furies of the realms.
The spirits of the land
This brings us to now with me standing back in the main room with the second gift from Odin in my hand while I stood there wondering when this gift would activate. It was then the stone began to glow and crack with green light glowing through the cracks until the stone pieces shattered and fell to the ground. What was now sitting in my hand was a stone compass with glass that glowed green and reflected the stars and I could sense the power coming from it. I was brought out of my thought when the sound of wood breaking sounded through the room and I looked up to see the trunk of the tree was opening up to reveal a wall of stars. When I saw this I felt the compass begin pulling me towards it and knowing it was most likely the first step on my newest adventure I followed it and as soon as I entered the portal there was a bright flash and I found myself in a familiar forest of Alfheim. I took a breath and said.
"Better let the locals I'm back." With that said I took off to find the god Freyr and let him and the elves know I'm back in their realm.
AN: And that brings an end to this chapter and yeah, I know it wasn't that exciting but I needed to get this stuff out of the way before the big expedition across the nine realms. Anyway, I know it was also short but this is an informative chapter so don't get angry and I will get to work on the expedition as soon as I can and also have it all out as soon as it's finished. Also if you're having trouble picturing the compass it'll be on my pinterest page soon so just look it up. Until the next chapter please be patient and here are the answers to your questions.
'Bloody Rogue dragon deity king' and 'Eris':
If you want to know who that guy is wait and see.
Arraia:
Wait and see as the answer shall be obvious soon.
Remember to review kindly and have a nice day.
