The duo stepped out through a time door, arriving at the crime scene and finding graffiti all over the outside of the victim's house, which overlooked the water, even around the chimney. After speaking with their client for more information, with Loki heavily disguised under a huge trenchcoat, detective hat, and sunglasses, and his voice disguised with a spell, they commenced searching the area for any evidence they could use. They noticed a large, curving path in the dirt, leading from the back yard of the house to a tall tree and stopping right at its base.

"What do you suppose left that?" Mobius wondered. "Not a getaway vehicle, obviously. Some mode of transportation? Or did they take anything from you?"

"No, not a thing!" Their client, Ada Nielsen, responded.

The detectives turned their focus on the imagery coating the house instead. "Well, let's see what our aspiring artist drew here…" Mobius mused. "…a lot of colorful, obscure doodles… oh, that there, that looks to be a skull, maybe some flames, and… some kind of ring?"

"I believe, my friend, that is an ouroboros." Loki corrected.

"What?"

"Ouroboros: a snake winding itself in a circle, biting the tip of its tail there. It symbolizes death and rebirth in an endless cycle. The Midgardians, particularly the Norse, took inspiration from the great serpent, Jörmungandr, so large he could encircle this Earth with the length of his body and grip the end of his tail in his teeth."

"Good friend of yours?"

"A great friend of mine, yes. Anyway, perhaps it holds some meaning to whomever drew it here."

"Yeah, or maybe they just think it looks cool." Mobius suggested.

"And just what kind of crime-solving attitude is that?"

"The kind that keeps my friend from jumping to wild conclusions too early. Come on." Mobius urged his friend as they circled the house, seeing more of the same. As Loki helped his friend up to get a look at the art on the rooftop and chimney, a group of on-goers gathered around the scene, curious to see Time Detectives at work. On the chimney, there was a message written in Danish, translating to: "One more word about him and you're next."

"Well, that's very threatening. Very serious." Mobius remarked, putting a hand to his chin. "About 'him?' Who's him?"

After a moment of quiet pensiveness, Loki spoke up. "Jörmungandr: I think he's involved in this, allied with whomever drew these symbols. Only he could leave a trail like that, though obviously, he wouldn't take up street art, nor can he read or write."

"So you think Jörmungandr is the 'him' from the message? I wonder if Ms. Nielsen saw this gigantic snake, told the police, and his partner decided to take them out of the picture."

"Perhaps. It's an interesting theory." Loki replied, not looking up from the trail.

"So… you gonna climb that tree and look for him?"

"Pff, you don't honestly believe a twig like that could hold him!"

"That's where the trail disappears!" Mobius exasperatingly stated. "Unless you're about to tell me he can fly!"

"Now now now, let's not get hysterical." Loki stifled. "Jörmungandr isn't so clumsy as to leave an enormous trail everywhere he goes: his partner must have had him burrow through the Earth's surface, but not under it, on purpose. Can you guess why?"

"He's… covering up something. Wait, he's covering the other guy's footprints!"

Loki nodded. "Very good deduction. Of course, I'm not 100% sure, but that would be my guess too."

"But if such a large snake was slithering through the village, that'd be sure to have caused a huge commotion, no matter how stealthy he is!" Mobius thought for a second. "Unless he hid and traveled underwater?"

"He might have. He's a very good swimmer. Hmmm…"

"Alright, what- hey!"

"Madam Nielsen, might you know if anyone in your village owns a snake, or has an affinity for them, perchance?" Loki suddenly interrupted, gracefully descending the rooftop after helping Mobius down ahead of him.

"Snakes?" Ada asked, confused. "Oh, like those hideous symbols? I wouldn't know. I hate snakes!" She added with a shiver.

"All the more reason to ask, as it seems a snake lover isn't too fond of you either." Loki nonchalantly replied. "Are you certain you don't have any enemies?"

Ada gave him a pensive look. After a brief pause, she spoke again. "Now that I think about it, Mr. Ulf from down the road has a prized snake he's bragged about once before. He lives in that house over there, with the long black garage. And I remember Gunnar from work telling me he liked lizards and snakes and other creatures like that. And the woman he's dating from his neighborhood too: he said she's a snake fan too. But none of them have anything against me."

Loki nodded. "Thank you." He turned to Mobius. "Shall we go questioning, Agent M?"

"Fine, Agent L. We'll go talk to your fellow snake enthusiasts." Mobius reluctantly began to follow Loki, but a young boy stepped between them.

"Excuse me. My name is Tjalfe, and my dad's gone missing. He's a great police officer, but nobody can find him and his squad anywhere. Can you please find him?" The detectives both looked at the child, feeling a mixture of pity and added determination to solve this mystery!

"Yeah! Don't you worry, we'll find whoever's responsible for this, and we'll find out what happened to your dad and the other officers." Mobius assured the boy. Loki gave a hesitant half-smile, hoping it wasn't too late to find them alive. With a nod, he and Mobius headed to the house down the road and knocked on the door.

"Can I help you?" A young man with red hair answered.

"We're private detectives: we're just here to ask you some questions." Mobius answered back while Loki walked silently towards the pet snake in its tank.

"Has there been a murder?"

"Not yet, but your neighbor's house just got a graffiti makeover with a serious sounding threat written on the top. It features some serpentine symbols, so we're investigating all the snake owners in your village."

"Wasn't me. When did it happen?"

"She said she noticed last Saturday afternoon and sent police out, but they've disappeared very mysteriously. That's why we're here."

"Disappeared, huh? You think the cops decided it was just a harmless prank and left?"

"Well, I don't know what to think yet, but if that were the case, I'm certain the officers would have told her so before just up and leaving!"

"Well, I'm not an artist, so I can't help you with-" Ulf paused, his mouth still open, as his attention turned to Loki, who was flicking his tongue out at Ulf's snake. "Wh-what's his problem?!"

"He's… uh, he-he's, um, well…" Mobius stammered, wishing he knew himself. "Agent L! What the heck are you doing?!"

"Asking some questions!"

"To the snake?!"

"Yes." Loki turned his attention back to the animal, both taking turns flicking their tongue at the other.

Ulf shook his head at the sight and whispered to Mobius. "You sure he's not the one who needs to be locked up? Or sent back to Limfjordsskolen?" (A boarding school in Denmark for students with learning disabilities, around 17-19 years old)

"He's… he's a bit eccentric, but trust me, he's a brilliant detective. He knows what he's doing." Mobius replied, still trying to convince himself as well. Mobius continued to interrogate his suspect, who claimed he had an airtight alibi for that Saturday afternoon, taking his pet snake to the veterinarian. The detectives thanked their suspect for his time and bade him farewell, walking to the next house.
