June 1962

A few days later, I arrived at Blackwatch HQ, code-name Crown Wall, which was in the north part of Montana. It was situated in some distance from the Canadian border and was connected to the Alkali Road near the Alkali Lake. The base was far from civilization; the closest town, named Hartford; was 8 miles away, housing a population of 800, a basic small American town. The most important thing the town had was that it also had an airfield that was used for small planes regularly; which was how I got the base's location, being picked up in a jeep.

It hardly took time to pack up the things in my home since I spent most of my time in the field. Thought I was careful when packing that old stone tablet I acquired during WW2, knowing that if the thing was part of an art collection from a Nazi general, it must be worth a lot.

Crown Wall was connected to Montana's power grid, the same with its waterworks and telephone landline. Arriving at the base, which was composed of one large main building with some small building surrounding it; I could see that while it was small compared to the big bases the US uses, it was still big enough to house a small group and with the amount of clear land around it, expanding the base was very possible.

After going through a tour throughout the base and making unpacking my stuff in my new room in the officers' quarters, I began looking at base's current personnel files. It was already staffed with basic staff, both in terms of support and active. Thought when I looked at Blackwatch's operational budget, I almost had a heart attack. The budget was larger than what I was originally told it was going to be. It took some digging, but I found that some bean counter back at D.C. must have add those zeros by accident. While I wanted to report this, I was not going to let this chance of extra budget go so, I kept my mouth shut.

With everything in order, it was time for Blackwatch to begin it's job.

Realizing that you need to acquire a full staff to help with Blackwatch, you took a plane to D.C. in order to interview potential candidates for two weeks. And while there, maybe visit the Smithsonian Museum to see if you could find someone that could help translate the tablet.

Thanks to the perks of being Blackwatch's commander, you were able to acquire a private room to conduct interviews in the Pentagon, as well put out an 'ad' across the board; detailing that a new op was in the works and was looking for members to recruit.

One of the strict requirements to join Blackwatch is that they must have permission to classified material. Though technically I could grant that same access to anybody I wanted, including civilian contractors that join; but if they talk later, it's my ass that will get fried.

After an exhausting day of interviews, you finally managed to find someone that was at least capable of being good at being diplomatic.

His name is Danny Walter, age 37; a former translator who worked as an attaché for the previous ambassador who represented the US in the England. He was currently out of a job due to the ambassador he used to work for getting fired for some unknown reason. According to his file, Walter not only was fluent in more languages then you were, but he also had a degree in political science.

During the interview, Walter was calm and answered all the questions the best he could. While he was a little skittish at the though of working with biological situations, but since he needed a job to sustain himself and from the looks of things, he was going to spend most of his time in DC handling diplomatic tasks, he had no choice but to accept the offer.

You spent time looking through personnel files and interviewing officers to see who could be a good 2IC but the majority of those either were too inexperienced, too arrogant or could not be trusted based on how they acted during the interview.

Though when you got the final candidate, you got the shock of your life upon seeing the person who entered. The candidate's file said she was Charlotte Alan, a WW2 veteran that worked with SAS during the war and has been a part of the 'Company' after the war, if the amount of black ink was any indication. There wasn't even a photo of her.

But looking at 'Charlotte' you knew that must have been an alias cause the woman who entered was none other than The Joy herself.

The Joy, otherwise known as the Boss. A WW2 hero, leader of the secret Cobra Unit and the mother of U.S. Special Forces. Normally you would have no knowledge of it due to its classified status; the only reason you knew any of this by the contacts you made during your life that trusted you with this type of information.

You did ask yourself why someone as The Joy would be here for an interview to be a 2IC of an unknown command. You would think that someone of her status would have better things to do and/or better postings. Though you have heard rumors that the higher-ups were not pleased with her due to Pigs Invasion ending in a failure, even though she was there to help.

Sufficing to say, the interview with her went off without any problems, though you apparently managed to surprise her by directly asking her why she was there, revealing that you knew who she really was. When asked how, you replied that you had friends that told you.

When I asked her why she was looking for the post; she admitted that she was looking for a stable op and that she had some experience with biological warfare. You did not risk asking about that experience since you knew that was possibly classified and if the small facial reactions she made when I asked the questions were any indication it was personal.

Knowing that saying no to her would be stupid, you gave her the posting. She accepted; and you got a legend to help command your troops.

You really, really tried to find someone that could run any spy operations that Blackwatch needed executed but all the candidates you examined did not seemed to fit your requirements. So, this part of the drive was a waste of time. You just hope that you can find a spook later with better luck.

Though you could not get the feeling that you somehow dodge a bullet out of your head.

After the frustration of not being able to find a spy to join your ranks; it turned out that finding someone to help with BW's logistics was also hard. You exhausted all the available candidates and not even one qualified.

You then looked at the person who was assigned to help you out, a Hayden Frazier; and remember that he has been a good help these past days. You look up his file and read that he was a former army soldier. While has not been in actual combat, he passed Basic Training and has several degrees in finance and business; currently working as a civilian logistics official with clearance for classified projects for the Pentagon.

Deciding to take a risk, you ask him if he wanted to do an interview for the job of overseeing logistics for Blackwatch. While shocked at the offer, Hayden said to the interview.

One quick interview and you finally got a logistics officer. As for the reason Hayden said yes to the job was because he wanted something new in his life, and that during the time meeting me, he said I looked a responsible leader. The fact that he would get a better pay in his new position also helped in joining.

Imagine your surprise when you received a call from an old war buddy from your squad, a British citizen named James Marcus who served as your squad's field medic. He called to tell you he was in DC for a medical conference and was wondering if it was possible for you and him to meet on, thinking it was possible to meet up for old times sake. Deciding that you needed a break from your job, you decided to go and see your friend.

You met him the next day in one of many restaurants in DC and ended up a nice discussion.

You knew from the few letters he had sent you over the years that after the war, he went on to study medicine. He was happy to say that he finally graduated in getting his degrees in biology and virology; becoming a certified doctor.

Upon remembering that you were looking for a scientist and that Marcus was a doctor and since you trusted Marcus with your life, you offered him the chance of working for Blackwatch as it's head of R .

While he was somewhat hesitant to move the US and work the US military, the fact that he could work possibly unknown biological agents and that he would be under the command of a friend of his; Marcus accepted the job offer. It took some dealings to get approval for a British citizen to work for Blackwatch but permission was granted.

Thus, you finally got a nerd, one that you could trust.

Before you began your recruitment drive, you wanted take care of the issue of the tablet and thus you went to the Smithsonian Museum to hire someone to translate the thing, with a picture of the tablet since you were not stupid enough to bring a stone tablet all the way to DC with the risk of something happening to it.

After asking around, you found a professor who specialized in translating ancient languages, his name being Jerry Hall Lucas. Upon meeting him, you told him a cover story that you were looking for someone to translate a stone tablet you found on a trip during Europe but that you only have a picture of it since was destroyed in the place you found it. The professor started saying that he did not have the time to do this, but when you told him you were willing to pay for his services, he said yes. You left him the picture and told him you were going to check on the job in two weeks.

The day before going back to Crown Well you went back to the Smithsonian to check on the status of the translation. Upon entering the professor's office, you see him surrounded by numerous books and blackboards that had the same symbols from the tablet right next to numbers and what looked like chemical equations.

Seeing you enter, the professor happily says hello and proceeds to explain to you what he has done with the tablet. Apparently, the symbols on the tablet are an unknown language that he had no previous knowledge of; except that upon looking closely at the first part of the tablet, he found an answer by pure chance; he used something called numerical principals (which you did not understand) on the first part and finally began to translate the tablet.

According to him, the tablet is separated into four parts. The first part apparently tells how to decode the rest of the tablet along with a message saying that this tablet shows the way on how to forge a stone that once touched by someone, if they are worthy, would grant that person the powers of a god; at least that is the best the translation to English says.

He then explained that the next part, which he had managed to completely translate as well; shows the formula and instructions on how to create the stone mentioned above. Though he did say that he had to call for extra help from the science department because in that part of the tablet, there were actual chemical equations that he needed help to translate. He did admit that he did not know if the translated formulas were real or not.

The professor in the end told you that the next two parts will take time to decode, especially the last part which seemed more complex than the first three parts.

When you asked if the stone had a name, the professor said that up to what he translated, the stone had no name; just simply said stone.

What started as a simple curiosity, now really had your attention, especially wondering if what the tablet said was true or just some supernatural mumbo jumbo. You told the professor that he should continue with the translation; with which you would continue to pay for his services.

You left with copies of the translations he had done.

Reward- Translation of tablet begun, 2/4 parts translated

Upon arriving back at Crown Wall with your new staff; you are informed that your base's doctor, a Dr. Morrison, had a heart attack last night and is dead.

Marcus offered to take over the position of the base's doctor temporary but that would cut his time in half from his duties as head of R . With no choice, you told him to take over the post.

Now you need to not only need to keep trying to find a spook but now you need to look for a doctor that can keep his or her head when we begin dealing with biological situations.

Well, it's been two weeks since BW has officially started, and you got both good news and bad news. Good news, you have an almost complete primary staff, which includes the legendary Joy as BW's primary military head. Bad news, you don't have a spymaster to help BW's covert ops but also your medical doctor just died and now Marcus must divide his time between his temporary medical duties and head of R . You hope that finding a spook and doctor occurs fast. You also must present Marcus the tablet's formula to see if the thing is real or not.

Walter really tried to make connections with several groups but due to the effort he had to put into getting the Canadian Government to grant access to BW to their country in case of emergencies cause his attempts to fail.

While Walter could not make any connections, he was able to get authorization from the Canadian government to cross the border to buy supplies or for the troops going for some R under the cover of Crown Wall acting like a normal military base but since it took that much hassle to get this permission, he did not reveal Blackwatch's existence, thus for now BW real existence is not known to the Canadian government.

You remember that you told Joy that all the current troops on the base were rookies and that you told her to train them. She told you that while she could train them at a normal rate, she also proposed to you a different way to train them, one that could increase their combat prowess but could be dangerous and might result in bad consequences. You told her that it was only volunteers.

Imagine your shock when all three squads volunteer upon hearing they would receive training from the Legendary Boss herself. While you knew that taking all the squads on base at the same time was a dangerous risk, you knew that you could hold the fort for a short time. Joy took all the trucks in the base and took the troops into an unknown location.

For two weeks not one word was known of the group until one day, the trucks finally came back and upon disembarking you saw all your troops looking they went through hell and literally came back; but you could also see that they were standing tall and had that same look you seen in soldiers who had lived through battles at the edge of their teeth.

According to Joy, she was expecting the majority to fail or be injured so badly that they would have to quit the military, though you swore that you could hear that some might have died in her voice; but to her shock and surprise all three squads not only survived her training regimen but also improved their combat abilities. She was proud to call them soldiers.

You asked her what exactly she to them did, she told that is was a personal training regime and that if he wanted to know, he had to experience it himself. You decided not to pursue the question again.

The two squads that were on active duty were now called Alpha and Knight Squads, while the security squad was now called the Turtle Squad.

You ordered Joy to upgrade the bases defenses but apparently because of the training program she put your troops through, she forgot to do that. Normally you would be angry but looking at your troops now, you forgive her and told her to work on it better next time.

You kept trying to find a spook but still no luck in finding one.

With the need to find a doctor for HQ, you gave Marcus the authorization to look for a doctor to take the empty post, thinking that maybe he knew someone from his old medical classmates. Two days later, he comes to tell you that he has found a perfect candidate. Brandon Bailey, a fellow student who Marcus took under his wings while studying in the university. While Brandon was a newly made doctor, Marcus said that he was smart for his age and could do his duty without problems; Marcus asked to go to England and interview him and if he passed to bring him back. You told him to go ahead. A week later, Brandon arrived at HQ with Marcus; exited to work alongside with his mentor.

Once again, it took some maneuvering to allow a second British citizen into Blackwatch but it was done.

HQ finally had a medical doctor back, one that can help with R projects due to his knowledge.

The construction of the base's helipad had begun. According to Hayden, it would be finished by next month. Though he did admit that when he sent the orders to requisition the materials, ARPA made him sign for something else that would be delivered next month due to him asking for materials to build a helipad.

Due to managing HQ's logistics and the construction of the helipad, Hayden almost forgot about your orders to look for an outside civilian construction company to speed up any future construction projects. After days of searching, he found a local company from the nearby town of Hartford. The company, called Hart Construct, was a small construction company that had been falling on some hard times since contracts had begun to drop due to the economy. Imagine their surprise when the old military base near the town was once again reopened and was looking for a construction company to help build or upgrade the base. A few days of talking and the deal was completed, Hart Construct would help with the base.

One positive effect to this was that it granted the town a small source of stable income.

You went ahead and told Marcus everything, how you found the tablet during WW2, that you kept the thing as a decoration for years, that you went to the Smithsonian and found someone to translate its contents and that this tablet somehow had a formula to create a stone that changed humans somehow. You saw that he was skeptical about the validity of the formula, which you understood since some part of you also though it was a fake, but you told him that you wanted him to check it was real or not. Marcus told you that he would check it out just to be sure since currently BW had no major projects in progress.

For the next few days, Marcus has secluded himself in his lab and the few times he comes out he asks for your permission to request some things for the lab, which you told him that he could order anything.

Imagine the surprise when you a few days later you walk to his lab and find him surrounded by blackboards filled to the brim with equations and chemical stuff, stuff that some you recognized from the translated notes you gave him. You then find him next a table that had a large sealed container that was somehow glowing in intervals. When asked what that was, Marcus began to explain that after reading the translated notes, examining the formula and seeing that it looked valid he decided to follow the formula to the letter in creating the stones, which without going into technical details involved mixing certain chemicals and heating them in a certain way. According to the formula it would create a batch of stones, whose amount Marcus did not know.

He told you that based on the rest of the calculations he made, the batch of stones would be ready in one month. And lo and behold, the formula was working for now.

So, you had confirmation that the formula does work in creating a stone. Now you just needed to wait to see how many stones you end up with and how exactly to prove the whole 'change humans' thing. Maybe it would be best to wait for the rest of the tablet's translation to finish.

You were reading the newspaper one day and in the international news section it announced that the Soviet Union just announced that the entire crew of the K-19 Submarine, which almost resulted in a nuclear meltdown; have died due to the radiation poisoning they suffered months after their exposure. They were buried with honors.
