June has arrived but sadly for everyone in BW, its not a happy occasion.

The blackout caused by unexpected solar flare has now been on going for 4 days and Martial Law was still in effect.

The military and the Montana National Guard had been able to keep the population calm, with both maintaining order and making sure supplies, mostly food since without power; a lot of food in people's home and shops had begun to go bad; from other states were delivered without problems.

The Governor and his staff were still in their comas.

The President had taken temporary control of the Montana civilian government to keep the bureaucracy moving. While this would not be legal, the unique circumstances around what happened made the people forget about it and just embrace it since it meant that things were getting done.

While there was some grumbling from DC, those detractors could not speak loudly because the President's actions in the eyes of the public were in the positive, seeing him as a politician that is doing something in the middle of a crisis instead of not doing anything. The fact that he was also there in person, even if by radio and telephone since he could not leave the base; was not noticed.

All of BW personnel was active during this time, with the R staff being the ones overworked in coming up with ways to counter this crisis, since it was stated that repairing all the power stations would take months at best. Months was not something the state could wait since important locations running on generators were on the clock. Not to mention the issue of food and running water.

The thing was that Robert came to you and the President with a rather bold idea to resolve the current crisis, which his idea was possible since it was only the power stations that are damaged, not the transmission network.

Either connect the entire state to the Cube directly like it was done for Hartford or unlocked the supply of Cube Batteries held HQ and use them. With the President's direct approval and emergency, this could be done in a timely manner.

Whenever or not they this would be permanent or temporary until the original power plants were repaired would be decided later.

Still, it was time to see if BW could stand this trial by fire.

This has been the longest and most exhausting 3 weeks of your life. But looking at the results, you could honestly say that it was worth it.

It took some discussions between the core group, but it was decided that distributing the Cube batteries would be better than connecting the entire state to the Cube like your base does.

Maybe in the future.

It helped that during the discussions, it got reported that the Governor managed to get up from his coma and even though he was weak, he was able to assume control of the government from his location and help the President with managing the state and coordinate with the operation.

Looking at the number of towns and cities around Montana, which was around 129; luckily, they had enough batteries from the stockpile to fulfill the full demand.

The issue was making sure the batteries go to their intended destinations, install them, guard them and what excuse to give the public about them.

Thankfully, thanks to previously established protocols, the combined help of everyone in BW and the President and the Governor using their full authority, it went smoothly.

For the next three weeks, it was constant going back and forth from the base across the state.

Large cities got their own battery while small cities and towns, depending on how close they were and population; shared a battery between them.

The plan was that each battery was deployed with a group of soldiers and scientists, with your core group splitting up to have more coverage; and then with onsite electrical engineers, your scientists would instruct on how to connect the battery to the grid, with your soldiers and National Guard personnel doing guard duty.

When the battery is connected the grid and the lights are turned back on; your group would leave to the next destination leaving behind a group of NG personnel to stay in permanent guard duty.

You personally went into the field as well to help in guard duty.

By the end of the month, all batteries were connected, and power had been fully restored to the entire state, ending the immediate crisis.

To hide the truth of the batteries, the established cover up of them being experimental nuclear batteries was aired, with Robert being the public face of that line of though, with Fury making sure there were no surprises and watching how other powers react.

Sufficing to say that Robert's status in the scientific community rose once more with this public discovery, though he did go on record that process to create these new nuclear batteries was very complex and expensive one, both to deter people from asking why aren't' there more of batteries out there.

That and maybe to get the other nations, specially Russia; to waste time and resources on something that does not exist.

You did consider it a blasted miracle that during that time, the public around the state was under control, with the National Guard with the military keeping order and distributing essential supplies. Only minor incidents were reported but were easily taken care of.

The one odd but grateful thing you did witness was the President working with the Governor without any problems at all, since they were both from opposite parties. Either way, thanks to their combined work, the state was able to get back to normal.

With the situation resolved, the President lifted the Martial Law and restored full control of the state back to the Governor.

Sufficing to say that the President and the Governor's approval ratings went through the roof.

While there were some detractors on the President's way of doing things, they keep their mouths shut since the public was praising the President in handling the situation directly even though he was in quarantine, as the fake cover story is feed to them.

The Governor's rose even more when the first thing he did was to declare that for the duration of the usage of the batteries, until the original power stations are fixed; the power bill will be locked at a low cost since using the batteries means no need to buy oil; just need to pay for the maintenance on the power systems.

According to your staff and engineers, it's going to take approximately 6 months to fix the original stations, which was enough for your batteries to cover completely without changing them since at the calculated usage, they would last an entire year.

It was forgone conclusion that barring anything bad happening again during the next year, the Governor has the next election term in the bag.

Some part of you was worried that your group's infamous luck was going to strike during the operation but after weeks of working, nothing happened, which you and your group took it as a blessing.

Though you should have taken care to not temp your luck because of the things that happened at base during the final week of June.

Your group's unofficial luck struck back with a vengeance.

Reward- Montana is no longer suffering a blackout.

All cities and towns are operating on Cube Batteries. (Since Montana does not have large cities, I am allowing the batteries to last 1 whole year)

Montana citizens now pay the lowest charge for light (mostly for maintenance cost) in the entire nation, practically free.

Cube batteries stockpile depleted. Will be restored in 2 turns, automatically.

Existence of Batteries known but the public face of them being nuclear batteries, real nature still hidden.

After the original power stations are repaired, a decision will be made to see if the Batteries are removed or kept. (In Turn 26)

"So basically, what you are saying is that no one is coming for the interview since they all are busy and the fact that they were the only ones with the proper clearance to work here means we have no one right?" You said with your left eye twitching.

"Yes sir." Hayden responded.

Roll- 95

Crit Roll- 69 (OF BLOODY COURSE)

At least something went right around the base this month.

Before launching the operation to distribute the batteries, you had ordered for a pool to be made inside the base to serve as both a good exercising method and for a way for some R for the group.

By the end of the month, the pool was constructed without problems. Though apparently the construction crew went a bit overboard.

Original it was supposed to be a standard military pool but since you or Hayden were not around for much of the month, they operated on using what leftover material and equipment from the last base expansion and it was enough to make expand the original order.

The pool was now an outdoor Olympic sized pool, with all the required machinery to keep it clean.

But apparently, the construction crew decided to be generous to us and ended building two full size hot tubs otherwise known as Jacuzzies, with full temperature control and massage function.

While you will admit that this addition was unexpected, you can't say that it was not unwelcomed, since the things were comfortable to spend time in and ease the stress, specially said by all the BW ladies.

Though there was a tiny 'issue' when the swimwear for both men and women was delivered at the end of the month. When you looked at the person who made the order, you went to her immediately for an explanation.

While the men's was okay, standard Speedo trunks that could fit even those that were Watchmen and they were of military quality, it was the women's that caught your attention.

"Strangelove."

"Yes sir."

"Explain to me why is does the female swimwear look like the swimwear used by the female lead in the adaptation of the James Bond novel Dr. NO?" You asked.

"I ordered them out of my own money." She responded.

"Disregarding the fact that they are not standard, how the hell did you even get this amount of them? Last I heard ever since the movie came out in Europe, it's been an item that has been sold out in clothing shops." You said.

"I went to university with Tessa Prendergast, who designed it. I spoke to her last month, and she did me the solid of not only making them, but she also made sure they were at a military quality, the fact she also included a holster for a combat knife like in the movie and in full color black instead of white was a bonus. Well that also supplying each suit with an actual combat knife used the SAS." She said.

"And you did not consider what the other female personnel would think of this?" You asked.

"I did ask, specially Joy; and they were fine with it. She even liked the fact that she could carry a knife with it." She said.

"Okay fine but that still does not answer why you ordered them in the first place." You said.

"I thought it would be nice for the female staff to have something new to wear than what is normally available for us ladies." She said but then she muttered something that your advanced hearing managed to hear.

"That and Joy would look good in one and wonder how Chris will react in seeing me in one." She said to herself.

"You know what, forget it. Let's leave it at that." You said, quickly leaving her lab and trying to ignore what she said.

You had enough problems to deal with at your plate.

Reward-

2 Hot Tubs constructed.

So, Chris finally got an answer back from Granin. But sadly, it was not good news.

Chris got a large package from the same lawyer firm that gave you the Microfilm and upon opening it, he was shocked and sadden to learn that Granin was dead and the package he just received was the firm carrying out Granin's last will and testament.

According to the law firm, Granin's death was ruled a suicide, which if your Soviet SOP is anything to go by, it meant that the Soviets had killed him for some reason.

In last letter Granin says goodbye to Chris, thanking him for being a good friend and hope that his career as a scientist takes off well. He also said that he did not know anything about the JB he sent him, claiming that it was a family jewel passed down from his family and that he gave it to his daughter as tradition dictated. That he later used all his connections to find out the unmarked grave where she was to at least recover a piece of his daughter was the last thing he did with it until he sent it to Chris.

That just meant the mystery of the JBs is still unsolved.

But that was not the only thing Granin sent Chris.

Apparently, in the event of his death, Granin had made it so that his lifework would be sent to Chris to finish and bring to life.

When talking to Chris, he said to you that Granin had an idea for something called the 'Missing Link' between infantry and artillery. He would say that infantry can roam the battlefield at will but were both vulnerable and lacking in firepower; artillery could inflict immense damage upon an opponent while resisting similar damage but was at the mercy of the terrain.

Granin's dream was for all intents and purposes to create a tank with legs, that it would enable it to traverse the battlefield and inflict and deflect damage on a scale never seen.

He called it a METAL GEAR.

And if the blueprints and data he sent to Chris were something to behold.

According to Chris and the rest of the scientists of the group who examined all the blueprints he decided to share with, the project can be done without problem. Its proposed weapons system and all other systems were capable of being made with our current technology.

The only reason Granin could not do it was due to requiring a large amount of budget, but the most important limitation was the fact it did not have a stable energy source for it to operate.

Chris said that a Cube Battery could easily be used to power it.

You will admit that looking at it, the prospect of a giant robot that could operate on both land and water sounded promising. It would take a large chuck of the budget to make a prototype, but it did seem interesting to develop.

Who knows, maybe if it works, it could be given to the Navy and thus earning some much-needed goodwill with them since your group practically had none.

The President, upon seeing the plans; said he had no problem with it, but it would have to come out of BW's budget to make it.

You will just have to see if it could be done.

As for the giant robot's name, Granin's notes called it…

Crown Wall, Infirmary

"Dammit Robert couldn't you had waited until tomorrow; I could have won this round's bet." You said to a sleeping Robert, who was on the floor of the infirmary, next to a broken bed frame; being examined by Brandon, Marcus and all the other scientists, with those that were not Watchmen wearing radiation protection suits, in response to the quite possibly literal fallout of Robert's incident.

As for the reason he was on the floor and not on one of the beds, well…

Robert became the newest member of TACT, only his transformation was a new one, that like the others, defied logic.

You still are trying to understand was happened.

According to what you been told, Robert was in the Nuclear Lab doing some routine checking of the nuclear material while wearing the standard safety suit when one of the shells holding several containers broke and their contents got loose, falling on Robert, leaving him trapped under the leaking containers and knocking him out cold.

Normally the suit would protect him but the amount of material that fell on him made it null and void; the suit could not protect him from that amount of radiation even if he was under his normal dosage of Edefoxin.

It took some minutes for one of Robert's assistants to notice Robert's was taking his time and when he entered the storage room and found the unconscious Robert beneath the broken containers.

Knowing he could not get near the man; the assistant ran back outside and sounded the alarm. After rounding up all the available Watchmen and JB users, due to the fact we were the only ones that could get near the man with all the radiation in the room. Even the President came running as well.

But imagine your collective surprise that when we were approaching the area, the broken containers on the ground began to shake and suddenly from they were all blasted outwards, throwing them around the area.

You and your group easily dodged the containers. But when we looked at where the containers were originally, you and the group were stunned.

You were expecting to see a dying Robert laying on the ground but instead you were looking at a 10 feet tall green naked man with muscles that make Chris' look small in comparison. The fact his veins and eye were glowing green as well was also noticed.

"Robert, are you okay?" You asked the giant, knowing full well that it was Robert because the giant had the remains of Robert's safety suit around him.

And with how things happened around here, it was obvious that Robert got TACT, though this was certainly a new one.

The giant blinked several times, looking around the room and then at his hands, moving them slowly. He then looked at the group and Robert's voice, but deeper; was heard.

"Yeah, it's me. Though I don't know if I should be angry at my new body or feel happy I am not on the ground dying of radiation burns. Though there is one thing I am curious about?" Robert asked.

"Yes what?" You asked.

"Who won this round's bet?" Robert asked, causing you and the rest of the group to just facepalm.

"THAT'S WHAT YOUR ASKING NOW!!" The entire group asked him at the same time.

Robert just shrugged his shoulders.

Following the confirmation that Robert was fine at that moment, the decontamination team was called in and began to clean up the place, with them having set up the infirmary ahead of time for Robert.

Doing a quick check with the Geiger counters, it seemed at that Robert, despite having been TACT by nuclear waste, he was not generating radiation from his body; which to be honest at that point it was good news.

After he reached the infirmary, where the second he sat on the bed, it crumpled underneath him, making it obvious that he weighed more than the Watchmen. But apparently the crash was enough to make whatever form of adrenaline was keeping the man running from functioning cause the second he hit the floor, he fell unconscious.

Your staff checked him and besides the obvious changes, Robert seemed to be just fine; just sleeping, the experience probably tired him out.

Either way, the base's rumor mill is now running amok on why Robert TACT from what appears to be exposed to nuclear wastes, something that has happened a lot of times in the past and yet all those people died gruesome deaths.

So why was Robert different? None of the remaining stones are missing so it was not because of them. Was it something in Robert or maybe the nuclear waste on your base was different from others. Maybe the Cube's mysterious energies around the entire base did something to the waste or something.

At least Robert was still alive, and BW has gotten a new powerful asset on its banner.

Oh, and Hayden won the bet this time.

Lucky bastard.
