ClBloom2: Thank you for the review, I love the brothers too.

This picks up straight from the last chapter.

As always, don't own the boys, but I do own Father Bill.

I also own any missing words, and spelling mistakes.

The Secret Life Of Casualty

Chapter 227.

The car lunched forward as the cliff broke under the weight of the car and landed in to the water. The brothers looked at each other, the car was soon going to be filling with water.

Cal tried to undo his seat belt, but it was stuck, they needed to get out and fast.

Kicking the door with his foot, he was relieved when it opened and undoing his brothers belt, he dragged his brother from the car, leaving him lying on the icy ground. Zoe wrapped a blanket around Ethan and secured an oxygen mask over his face.

Cal was relieved but, just as he was about to get himself out, the doors jammed shut, and the ice broke, as the car sank.

Cal had disappeared under the water.

"Cal!" Ethan screamed. Zoe rubbed his arms as paramedics rushed on to the scene.

A diver went down looking for Cal, but come up without him.

"Please be ok, Cal " Thought Ethan as the diver went back down to search for him, pulled Cal from the water, Iain and Dixie worked on securing him to a spinal board, fitting him with a head collar and loading him in to the ambulance.

"This is Caleb Knight, 33, immersed in icy water for several minutes, his temperature is unrecoradble, he may also have sustained a head injury, GSC of 9, resps of 8 and he may have inhaled some water as well. " Iain Dean revealed as the trolley was rushed in to RESUS.

Colleagues had tried warming him up, but his temperature was still low.

Mr Jordan, who had previously performed surgery on Jessica, suggested putting Cal on cardiac bypass, Ethan agreed, he just wanted his brother back.

In RESUS, Nick gowned up and made an incision in Cal's chest, he got the proctor ready and put it in to the incision, then he opened up Cal's ribcage with the saw.

When the operation was complete, Nick asked Charlie to get Ethan.

Ethan was sat in the staff room waiting for news on Cal, he was with Zoe, who was trying to keep his mind off things, but in all honestly, he wanted to be left alone.

Cal, who had now been moved to a private room, his monitors began beeping. Nick, Zoe and Charlie ran up there, doing CPR.

Ethan prayed and prayed Cal could pull through again, he was a fighter, he would survive.

But as Zoe, Charlie stepped back with looks on their faces, Ethan knew, he knew.

According to the post mortem, which had arrived from the Coroner, due to how long he had been in the water, Cal had suffered a cardiac arrest, CPR had been administered but he wasn't coming back.

Ethan was expecting Cal to walk through the flat door, any moment, it felt like a bad dream.

On Monday, the day of Cal's funeral, Ethan felt numb as he showered and got dressed and waited for Charlie, who was taking him to the church.

"How are you doing?" Charlie asked.

Ethan nodded numbly. "Fine, Charlie. " He said staring out of the window.

Father Bill was leading the service with Ethan carrying his brother on his last jounery.

'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies,' says the Lord

'For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.'

'Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.'

We now commit his/her body to the ground;

earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust:

in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life…

As Cal was lowered in to the ground, after colleagues had thrown dirt on the coffin, tears cascaded down his cheeks, Charlie put an arm around him.

The wake had been held in the Hope & Anchor

Ethan had listened to Max tell stories about his brother about how Cal had lost a bet and had, had to give Max £20.

Ethan sneaked out and went back to the cemetery, finding Cal's open grave and crouching down in front of it.

"Hey, Cal. " He whispered, he felt strange for talking to him know, knowing that he wouldn't be able to respond.

Charlie lay a hand on his shoulder. Ethan jumped.

"I miss him, Charlie. " He whispered, "He may have been a pain, but he was my pain. "

Charlie chuckled. "He'll be looking down on you . " He said as he put an arm around him. leaving the cemetery.

As a ghostly Cal looked over them from above, he whispered. "Love you, bro, "

Ethan turned, and as Cal disappeared, he had an inkling that he had seen his brother, as a flash disappeared.

"Cal. " He said with a smile as he reached Charlie's car and got inside, driving away.
