Brownen100: Thank you for the review, I love protective Ethan as well.

Guest: Thank you for the review. I just thought I would say, I am writing the chapter where Cal and Alicia have an accident, like Adam and Jess, but I'm just really struggling with it at the moment. Could you please provide me with more details? Like I was thinking that Jess could be involved somehow as she has battled hypothermia.

Guest: Thank you for the review and here is the request, hope you enjoy it.

Guest: Thank you for the review, I will use that if the reviewer doesn't get back to me, thank you.

For this chapter Matilda is the boys mum and Ethan doesn't have the gene.

The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 268.

It had been just over a week since the brothers had buried their mum, Matilda since she had lost her battle with cancer. And Cal and Ethan were both in a state of grief: Ethan was quiet, keeping himself to his self, while Cal was drinking more than he usually would.

One morning, Ethan walked in to the kitchen to see more bottles on the counter, they had seemed to multiply overnight. Ethan, had, had enough. He walked to Cal's room and (without knocking, for the first time, in his life) he walked in.

"You are so irresponsible Caleb!" Ethan raged at his brother, Cal stared at him blurry eyed as he had just woken up.

"I'm not Ethan, I've changed"

"You will never change!" He said as he walked out.

Hurt by his brothers words, Cal waited until he had left the flat and got out of bed and put some clothes on, only taking a small amount of money from his wallet and leaving the flat.

Ethan returned to the flat, after his shift, only to find the lights off. "Cal?" He said as he walked in, he looked in the living room, his brother wasn't there, the kitchen, he wasn't there either, in his room, nope, not there either.

Ethan was worried. Max, Lofty, Iain, Jez, hadn't heard from Cal, Ethan had even checked the pub, in case he spent the night there, he hadn't. He had tried ringing Cal, but the only message he got was:

"This person you are trying to call is currently unavailble. Please leave a message after the tone"

"Cal, it's Ethan, call me" He left the message, closed his phone and sighed.

Ethan had spent a restless night, tossing and turning, worried about his brother. When daylight broke, he called throughout the empty flat. When he received no answer, he hot out of bed, made the bed and checked Cal's room. He wasn't in there. With a sigh, Ethan closed the door and decided to go for a run, he needed to keep fit.

He ran up the street and back, almost tripping over a homeless person.

"Oh, sorry" Ethan smiled weakly, towards the hunched up figure, who was desperately trying to stay warm, Ethan felt for them, he seen a lot of homeless people on the streets of Holby, sometimes with small children, begging for money.

"Cal?" Ethan whispered. "Cal?" Ethan said again, it was hard to hear him over the rain. He nodded.

"What are you doing out here?"

"You hate me" He whispered, a tear rolling down his cheek.

"I don't hate you" The younger man replied.

"I'm sorry, Ethan" Cal whispered, bowing his head.

"Don't worry about that now" Ethan said as he helped him up, as he did, he noticed that he was much slower at walking, his joints creaked each time he took a step. it was a relief when they had battled the stairs and were in the flat, Ethan led Cal to the living room and gently pushed him down on to the couch.

Ethan hugged his brother, wiping his eyes.

Cal shivered, Ethan got him a blanket from his room and put it around him.

"Sorry, Ethan"

"Cal, you don't have to keep apologising." Ethan whispered, stroking his hair.

Cal looked up at him, and Ethan felt bad as he started to cough. He went to the kitchen and searched in the cupboard, before taking it in to the living room. Cal took a few mouthfuls, before pulling a face of mock face of digust, as a child, he had never liked taking the medicine, as an adult, he didn't like taking it either. When he had finished, Ethan took the bottle back in to the kitchen and when he did, Cal was resisting the urge to close his eyes, Ethan joined him as he kissed his forehead, as both brothers fell asleep in each other's arms.
